Caroline Waters
The Doctor was in his TARDIS again along with a new companion.
"Trent!" The Doctor yelled
"Yes, Doctor?" He said as he ran to his side
"What did you do to my console?" He asked
"I, touched it up a little." Trent stammered
"Just because you're a technician, doesn't mean you get to mess around with my advanced technology!" The Doctor yelled
"I think it looks pretty good." Trent said as he crossed his arms
"You messed with the circuit wire! Now she's probably confused." He said as he pat the TARDIS console
"Aw, she's not gonna be affected." Trent said with a wave of his hand
The TARDIS gave a soft warble.
"She doesn't think so." The Doctor sassed
The Doctor calmed down and let out a breath.
"So, Trent. Where do you wanna go?" The Doctor said as he leaned against the console
"Europa!" He said immediately
The Doctor raised an eyebrow.
"You want to go...to the most well known moon, for Jupiter?"
Trent nodded. The Doctor cringed.
"Could you have picked a less boring place?" The Doctor mumbled under his breath
"What's that?" Trent teased
The Doctor growled.
"Nothing. Europa it is." The Doctor said as he pulled the lever down
The engine screeched as it usually does. Trent hung onto the bar and enjoyed the ride through space and time.
The engine stopped. That was The Doctor's queue to go to the door.
"Alright-y! Europa! Are you ready?" The Doctor asked with a slight smile
Trent nodded frantically.
"Okay. Uno, dos, tré!" The Doctor said as he opened the TARDIS door
Trent took in the scenery.
"Woah." Was all he said
The Doctor chuckled.
"That's all you've got to say? Not, 'Incredible' or 'Beautiful'?"
"It's...amazing." Trent said in awe
"Eh. I've seen better." The Doctor said as he walked out of the TARDIS
Trent walked out of the TARDIS, admiring the sky. The Doctor closed the TARDIS door and followed Trent. Trent noticed a woman, light brown hair, grayish-blue shirt and navy blue jeans, who was crouched to the ground and observing some unknown plants.
"Hello." He called out to her
She turned her head and smiled.
"Hello." She said back
"Uh, I'm Trent." He said sticking his hand out
"Caroline. Caroline Waters," She said with a smile, shaking his hand, "but my friends call me Clara."
Trent smiled.
"Clara. That's a beautiful name."
"Nickname," She corrected, "but thank you. You're very kind."
The Doctor saw Trent with this unknown woman and approached her.
"Who are you?" The Doctor asked
"Caroline. Caroline Waters." She said with a smile
"But her friends call her Clara." Trent said
"You're human, yes?" The Doctor asked curiously
"Yes. I'm a Europan." She said
"What?" The Doctor asked
"Europan. Born and raised." She said proudly
"Wait, you were raised here?" The Doctor asked
Caroline nodded.
"Yes. Been here 22 years. Long enough, if I may add." She said with a small chuckle
The Doctor looked at his surroundings, trying to figure out who she was and what she did for a living.
"So, you're a botanist?" The Doctor asked
"Kind of, yeah." She said, "I observe plants and their prosperity."
"So, yes." The Doctor said with a smile
She nodded and shrugged her shoulders.
"I guess."
She glanced at the two guys and smiled.
"Would you two care to join me in a little lunch break?" She asked them, "I'm done with the numbers for today." She said as she marked some numbers on a chart
The Doctor nodded.
"Sure." He said politely
She lead them into her home and sat against in a chair, taking a sigh of relaxation.
"Welcome to my house, boys." She said playfully
Bill stared at it in awe.
"Your house is more interesting than the planet!" He exclaimed
She chuckled. The Doctor felt a twang in his hearts, like the girl he was seeing looked familiar. He grabbed a chair and sat in front of her, analyzing her. She looked at him, chuckled and looked away.
"Can I help you?" She asked
"It's just," The Doctor said as he continued to stare at her, "you seem familiar, and I just can't wrap my brain around it."
She smiled.
"I get that all the time. Trust me, you're not the first person to ever tell me that." She said as she leaned back against the chair
"Wow, you have a pet robot?" Trent asked
She lifted her head to see Trent talking to her Roomba, who was cleaning the kitchen floor.
"It's my little Roomba. She's not a pet. She's my little personal....cleaner. Yes." She said with a chuckle
Trent crouched down to talk to it.
"Hello, there." Bill said
"Hello." Roomba replied
Trent gasped.
"It talks?!" He exclaimed
Caroline laughed.
"Yes, she talks." Caroline said, "Technology is much more advanced."
She crossed her arms and she chuckled.
"Have you been under a rock for the past 200 years?" She asked him
He shrugged.
"I've been too much of an introvert to see it." He said
"She's a real sweetheart. Just don't say hateful things or else she might tear up your rug by 'accident'." She said, emphasizing it with air quotes
The Doctor laughed.
"That's going to be a problem, because Trent here likes to mess with your technology." He told her
"Oh? Really?" She asked with a smirk
Trent stammered, "U-uh, no. I only improved The Doctor's machine."
"Machine?"
The Doctor gulped.
"Time Machine." He corrected Trent
"Time Machine? Ooh. Haven't seen one of those before." She said with slight excitement
"Really? I thought those would've been invented already." The Doctor said with a slight frown
She shook her head.
"No, unfortunately not. We only have different IPhones, Laptops, and holographic tech. To that extent, we haven't had anything like that." She said sitting up in her chair
Bill followed the Roomba around, getting a chuckle from Caroline as she watched them.
"So," Caroline said sitting back in her chair, "What are you lot here for? Exploration? Curiosity? Our famous Europan Festival?"
The Doctor frowned slightly.
"You know, Trent wanted to come here. I never really liked it here, but now that I hear you guys have a festival, this might have not been a bad trip." The Doctor said, a smile forming
Caroline smiled in response.
"That's good." She said with a light chuckle
Trent came running into the room, panting heavily as he climbed to the wall next to him.
"What? What is it?" The Doctor asked with slight anxiousness
"T-there's...a guy...with a..." Trent gestured an eye patch, "and he had...and I just ran in here but..."
Caroline went to him and pat his back.
"Say no more, I know who these guys are." She said as she looked ahead to where Trent just came running from
The Doctor was perplexed.
"Who and what are 'these guys'?" The Doctor asked
"Men..who want to know the secrets of fresh food here on Europa...I'm one of the few successful ones to ever grow fresh food from plants." She said as she put her hands on her hips
The Doctor's eyes widened. He recognized this woman, for sure. But he couldn't put his finger on it.
"I'll face them alone, you two go...now. This maybe the last time you'll ever see me."
She grabbed a ring on the table and a necklace with an autumn leaf on it. Surely, The Doctor could've recognized who she was after all, but alas, his memory told him otherwise. Trent's eyes widened.
"Wait! Clara!" Trent called out as she walked towards her door
She stopped. Her breath hitched and she clenched her hand into a fist. She was scared. Scared, out of her wits but she needed to do this.
"Why do they want to hurt you, Caroline?" The Doctor asked with a slight seriousness
"Well, for the only reason why someone wants to hurt another..." she paused, "Power."
The Doctor's eyes glimmered in anger.
"Let me help you." The Doctor said as he approached her
She shook her head.
"I can't...this is my battle. These people have been at me for years...and after my parents died, I only had myself. No one else." She said as she looked down in sadness
The Doctor watched her carefully.
"Well, you have me know. So, let me save you." The Doctor said looking into her eyes
She still refused.
"I'm not letting some stranger die for me. Why am I even important to you?" She scoffed
This, The Doctor did not know. It has been forever since he has had a déjà vu, but he remembered Donna. How she was completely oblivious to her erased memory. This was the thing, he didn't know why she was important. His duty was to save everyone he can. She was important because, she's valuable.
"Because you are worth so much, now let me come with you." The Doctor begged
She growled.
"I'm not letting a stranger die for me! That's final." She said storming out the door
The Doctor's hearts raced as she set foot on the grounds of Europa.
"Well, it seems Caroline, we meet again." A man's voice said
"Oh shut it, Blake. I'm going to say the same things I said last time. You are not, getting..my secrets. I am a professional botanist, whatever I say to you will seem like gibberish. How can I trust someone to hold my secrets if you don't know a single word I'm saying?" She told him
Trent ran back to The Doctor, in the same shock as him.
"Doctor? Is there anything we could do?" Trent asked
The Doctor processed this for a minute.
"You know...Trent, I honestly have no clue at this point." The Doctor said, with a little ounce of regret
"B-but Doctor..I've heard stories...stories about you saving people from their deaths..can't you do the same for her?" He asked him
"It's not always like that, Trent. Sometimes, deaths are fixed in time, and you can't do anything about it or else history would change, cause a rift in time." The Doctor explained
"So, can you save her?" Trent asked, his eyes glossy with water
The Doctor looked down in silence.
"D-Doctor?" Trent asked
"No." He said after a while
There was a loud BANG echoing. Trent and The Doctor snapped their heads to the sound and Trent yelled in terror. The men shot her dead, just for power and recognition? The Doctor was staring at her body, his eyes widened in shock. Trent ran to her as the men barged into her home, looking for research on how to sustain and provide fresh food and crops to Europa. The Doctor didn't know what to do, he froze, in terror. If he only knew. Trent sobbed and held her close. She was an innocent woman, she didn't need to die.
The Doctor then started to move towards him.
"We have to go, Trent. They'll find the TARDIS eventually and try to take it. We need to leave."
The Doctor dragged him away, Trent trying to run back to her. He finally got a good, strong grip and pulled him back to the TARDIS. Trent sobbed in his hands, like a weeping angel. The Doctor pushes a few buttons on the console and The TARDIS started to disappear. The Doctor found an article on the floor, he read it with caution.

One of Jupiter's moons, Europa, are having great success with crops. Humans living on Europa have been able to grow vegetables, fruits, and more when a team of people, coming from an Agricultural Preservation Institute, found research. With these plans in hand, Europa is now thriving with humans and can sustain human life, even when Earth will be gone.

"So, that is what her death did? Made Europans survive?" Trent said, in a sadly confused tone
The Doctor flinched.
"Not every death is bad. Yes, death itself is sad, but the death of something shouldn't always be sad." The Doctor said to him
Trent sniffled and The Doctor leaned against the railing. The Doctor was confused. He felt an itch gnaw at his brain. He knew this woman, yet he couldn't think of the reason why. So he ignored the thought, and travelled through empty space.
