-CH 7- New school

Amelia Wilson

We arrived at school together. I couldn't help but be actually aware of the curious glances and whispered conversations around us. It was obvious that people were talking.

As we walked through the school gate, I let out a small sigh, bracing myself for the challenges ahead. I stole a glance at Zaid, wondering why he insisted on walking so closely to me.

A really beautiful blonde girl approached him, her clothes were so elegant and pretty. Her makeup suited her so much. And her eyes were shining, I think now i understand why he calls me 'beggar girl', her purse alone looked like it was a thousand bucks. She leaned on the locker as he put his things in it. "Hey, Zaidy. How are you?" She used a really flirty tone. I wasn't surprised, really. He was rich, handsome. And a smooth talker.

He smiled at the girl. It was the most charming smile he could muster. But I knew it was fake. I saw it before. "Hey~ Helena."

As they conversed, I couldn't help but compare myself to her. Her wealth and extravagance were worlds apart from my meager existence. I suddenly felt like a mere speck of dust in the presence of her brilliance.

I backed away from them, then turned away and left. I don't think he even noticed. He was a jerk, I am stupid. He just got me food out of pity because he thinks I need his help. As if I was really his lowly servant. And he only had some mercy on me. It meant nothing...

As I walked through the crowded corridor, the opulent surroundings seemed to taunt my humble existence. The air was filled with the scent of expensive perfumes emanating from the students, each one radiating an air of wealth and exclusivity. Their clothing flaunted designer labels and stylish designs, making my worn-out outfit even more evident and out of place.

I felt a surge of anxiety and insecurity as I navigated the hallway, feeling like an intruder in this affluent world.

I didn't look bad. Or dirty. But they all gave me weird looks. Was it because I was walking here with Zaid? Was he that popular?

As I continued walking, I was just clutching the strap of my backpack and looking down. Walking really fast, my bangs were bouncing up and down.

Suddenly, I accidentally bumped into someone. That was my worst nightmare. I was planning to just be an outcast here, I knew if I didn't, people would bully me... again.

I fearfully looked up at the person I bumped into. "I am so sorry, I really wasn't looking. It's my first day here, and I know nothing. Please don't hurt me and make me the subject of bullying, I really didn't mean to and I was just trying to-" words were flooding out of my mouth like waterfall, I was starting to get really shaky, and cold.

A chuckle interrupted my panicked apology. "Woah, slow down there. It's okay. there's no need to freak out like that, haha." As I looked up, I saw a boy standing in front of me, his amused expression a stark contrast to my fear-filled one.

His eyes, a mixture of dark brown and amber, bore into mine with a hint of warmth. He wore casual yet stylish clothes, and his hair was a really light brown, slightly close to mine. He also wore glasses.

"I am sorry, I was..." He smiled softly. And extended his hand to me.

"Caleb, my name is Caleb. Relax, you're all good." His tone was really gentle and soft, unlike that jerk. I felt a bit of relief wash over me, I nodded and shook his hand.

"Amelia..." I whispered.

"Nice to meet you, Amelia." He let go of my hand. I was just really surprised that a person like him would actually be nice to me.

A girl with short purple hair and bright blue eyes joined us. "Awww, you're new? You look really cute." The girl uttered.

I blushed. I didn't expect to hear any complements today, especially not from rich people like them. She was wearing shiny jewelry and looked as nice as the others.

The guy with glasses smiled at me. It made my heart skip a beat. His smile had so much warmth in it. As if you were looking at an angel. "So, Amelia. What year are you in?" He asked.

"I am... in 11th grade.." I whispered while looking down.

The girl's eyes lightened up, and she grabbed both of my hands in her grasp. "Awww, same! We are also in 11th grade! My name is Lauren, and this is Caleb. He'd been our class president for three years straight!" She said cheerfully.

"N-nice to meet you all..." I smiled sheepishly.

"Come on, let's see where your class is. You must feel so lost," the girl was taller than me, maybe that's why she kept calling me cute.

I nodded. We walked for a little while, and both of them seemed so nice and welcoming.

As we walked towards my classroom, I found myself walking between Caleb and Lauren. Caleb's gentle demeanor and the softness in his words provided a sense of comfort and safety. His glasses magnified his kind eyes, which seemed to sparkle with warmth and compassion.

Being with them felt like a weight off my shoulders. I didn't feel like the odd one out, nor was I expected to be the perfect person. Their presence eased my anxiety, and I felt hopeful that perhaps this school year wouldn't be as terrifying as I had feared. And even better, they were in the same class as me!

"Here we are," Lauren cheerfully declared as we approached the classroom.

"Thanks..." I managed to utter, feeling a mixture of gratitude and nervousness. As she opened the door, my eyes met with the curious gazes of my future classmates, silently looking me up and down.

Thoughts on Caleb and Lura?

Sorry if the chapter is short, I am a bit busy again.
