Summer yawned and lay her head on her desk, Professor Flitwick had spent the whole lesson droning on, and they had run out of time to do any practical work. She leaned over to her right to poke Fred, who was sleeping.
"Hey!" She ruffled his hair until his head shot up, taking a moment to look about at what was happening around him. However, when his eyes met Summer, his face couldn't help but break into a smile.
"What do you want?" Summer shrugged.
"I'm just bored, it's the last lesson before the weekend, can't he let us go early?"
"Ugh, I know, it's a Hogsmeade weekend too-"
"And..." She waited expectantly for him to carry on for her.
"My birthday." He rolled his eyes and turned back to his mess of books sprawled across the desk.
"Fred! It's perfect, we can spend your birthday in Hogsmeade! I'll plan something with the rest, just hold tight." At that moment, Flitwick finally told the class that they could start packing up, and Fred was hastily shoving all his books into his bag.
"Sum, honestly it's fine, I don't want a big thing, neither does George." Summer looked up at him, crestfallen at his reaction to her over-excitement. Fred regretted looking down into her big brown eyes, as he couldn't hold his view for a second longer.
"Fine! Plan what you want, but keep it low-key okay? And don't invite loads of year belows," He said as an afterthought and swung his bag over one shoulder, waited for her to do the same, then they made their way out of the classroom.

Later that evening, the group were sitting around in a circle in the common room once again, Summer had already made a plan with them all for the next day, so was eagerly sitting there, bouncing her leg up and down in anticipation.
"What's got you all worked up?" Fred watched her in amusement, as he sipped his tea.
"Nothing, just had too much coffee today."
"Uh-huh," he replied, clearly doubting her, and leaned over to get George's attention, who was talking to Alicia.
"Don't forget we have our apparition test before the match on Sunday." George nodded and hastily scribbled something down onto a scrap piece of parchment.
"It's so unfair, I have to wait until June," Summer folded her arms in annoyance.
"Wait... I thought your birthday was in May?" said Fred.
"Yeah, but they hold apparition tests every two months, so the next one after tomorrow isn't until the second of June,"
"Aw, I'm sorry Sum."
"It's okay, I'll have you and George to take me with you, and besides, I still can't do it, without leaving a limb behind," she chuckled, then shivered, remembering the time she left a foot, and Fred and George had found it hilarious, as they watched her hop around in a panic until a teacher came to fix it. The twins seemed to have remembered this too, as they looked as though they were stifling their laughs.

The next morning came around, and Summer expected that the twins would probably sleep in, due to it being the weekend at last. She got up and out of bed, pulled on one of Haydens' old Beauxbatons hoodies over her loungewear that she fell asleep in last night, and grabbed Fred and George's presents off from her chest of drawers.
When she reached the Great Hall for her morning coffee, she didn't expect the twins to already be there, seated in the middle of a large group of Gryffindors, they were thanking the people milling around, as they took cards and presents from them. However even through the crowd, Summer didn't have to shout or jump or do anything to get Fred's attention, his face lit up as soon as he laid eyes on her, and she wished him a happy birthday as she pushed her way through everyone else.
"Thanks Sum, here sit next to me," she obliged happily and slid in between Fred and Ron, who looked a little disgruntled to be pushed to second rank.
"Wow Summer, I can't believe you're wearing the hoodie of the rival school," Hermione laughed from across her, and Fred's head snapped around to see for himself.
"Summer!" His mouth stretched open into a gasp, "How could you!"
"Leave me alone, it's warm okay?" She sat there still, as the next thirty seconds were spent getting hounded with mock insults by all her friends.
"I think it's wonderful," came a voice from behind them, and they turned to see Chloé standing there with a smirk, wearing the same hoodie as she was. "And we're not rivals, by the way." She seemed to be looking at George in particular as she said that.
"Thank you!" Summer winked at her, as she made her way back to the Ravenclaw table.
"Your friend is really something," George watched her go, unblinking and clearly fantasising. Summer hit him over the head.
"You better be thinking respectful thoughts or you have me to deal with."
"I'm quivering," George shied away and pretended to hide behind Fred, who only laughed at the situation.
After all the presents and cards were opened, and everyone was thanked accordingly, the group began to make their way out of the wooden doors to the courtyard, where they would leave to get to Hogsmeade. It didn't take them too long to get there, and the first place they went to was Zonkos- where they spent a while trying out all the new tricks it had up its sleeve. Fred and George appeared to be interested beyond the surface level that the others felt, and seemed to be studying each product very closely. She had heard from Ron, that the twins often could be found making things explode in their rooms, but never could think what it could be for, other than senseless fun.
❀❀❀
They were finally at the Hogs Head, after visiting everywhere they could think of. Honeyduke's had been their favourite of all, largely because Summer had bought everyone whatever sweets they had wanted, and their group had their pockets full of treats. Summer, however, wasn't the biggest sugar fan and decided to skip out on getting herself anything, but Fred let her try some of his.
"I'd go easy on the butterbeer, mate, it's only four," Lee was eyeing Fred and George, who had two each in front of them.
"Relax, that's hardly even the warm-up," Fred brushed it off, and simultaneously opened his coat, to reveal a bottle of fire whisky on the inside pocket.
"My brother has the rest in his dorm for later," Summer added.
❀❀❀
"Come on, Hayden, there's too much food and not enough drinks, we need to be quick."
"Alright I'm coming, I just need to get a bag for them." Summer waited patiently as he returned to the Slytherin common room, re-emerging nearly ten minutes later with three bags over his shoulder.
"Right let's be quick, these things weigh a ton and I don't fancy getting caught with them either," he pulled Summer by the arm after him, and up the stairs to the Gryffindor common room.
A loud cheer met their ears when they clambered through the portrait hole with armfuls of Ogden's Old Firewhiskey, Nettle wine, and some Knotgrass mead. The pair spread it out on one of the tables, and already some students came over to fill their glasses.
Hayden gave his sister a warning look as she refilled her cup for the third time that hour, and when the next one came, Fred had to snatch Summer's cup from her hand.
"Hey!" She exclaimed, staring angrily at him, "I wasn't finished drinking that!" She tried to grab it back, but Fred's outstretched arm was held purposely just out of reach.
"That's enough for now Sum, even if it is my birthday, we have Quidditch tomorrow, remember?" Fred folded his arms and stared down at the girl who could barely stand in front of him.
"At least let me try the wine, I've only ever had Elf-made wine before! Come on!"
"Not right now," he said firmly and turned around to scan the room for Hayden. He was standing not too far away, talking with Fleur.
"Hayden!" he called to him, but he didn't hear over the music and chattering of the others, so now he whistled loudly. The noise cut through and could be heard above everything else, and Hayden- along with a few others- turned around. Fred gave a little indicative nod in Summer's direction, and Hayden muttered something to Fleur, placing a hand on her shoulder in the process, before making his way to the pair.
"Does she normally get like this?" Summer was now leaned up against the back of one of the sofas, giggling to herself. Hayden took a moment to think.
"Yes," he concluded, "Summer's a massive lightweight, don't let her have anything else or she'll start causing problems," he knelt down to face his sister and looked her in the eyes.
"No, more, drinks, okay?" he paused between each word, and Summer looked at him almost too seriously for a second, then dissolved back into fits of giggles. Hayden sighed and stood up. "You have that Thing I gave you last year, I hope you brought it with you because you are going to need it tomorrow," he shook his head at her, and winked at Fred, strolling on his way back over to Fleur, who was patiently waiting, surveying the situation from a distance it seemed.
The rest of the evening had been going well after that, two students had even surprised the twins with a blown-up picture of their faces, which would wink or high five every now and then. Some boy in Hayden's year then set off a few Dr Philibuster's Fabulous Wet-Start Fireworks, and Hermione came sulking down the steps of her dormitory to open a window for them to escape through- earning her tremendous boos. After, Fred, Summer, George and Alicia had danced their souls out, but at some point during the night, Fred caught Summer with another glass.
"Ah, so you finally got to try the wine," he said sarcastically.
"Yea-hey!" Fred had once again taken it from her hands and was just pulling her up when urgent whispers spread like wildfire.
"McGonagall's coming!"
"Shit." Hayden flicked his wand at the table of empty bottles, and they all instantly disappeared, along with some excess rubbish from around the floor.
"Where did you send that to?" Summer asked, although slightly slurring her words. Hayden looked around cautiously before answering.
"Outside the gates of Malfoy Manor." Summer thought that right then and there, that that was the most hilarious thing in the world, and only shut up when the portrait opened and a disgruntled looking McGonagall came in, lips pursed even more tightly than usual.
"What on earth is going on here?" Everyone looked about nervously, waiting for someone to say something, and hoping it wouldn't come down to them.
"Uh... Book club?" Fred winced as he said it, knowing all too well that she wasn't really asking. Hayden had ducked behind a bookshelf, he and Summer would get in trouble for telling him the password to the Gryffindor common room- which was strictly forbidden. Summer was slumped on a sofa, George had shoved a book in her hand, but in that moment it slipped from her weak grasp and her head rolled over to the other side. The professor gave her a disapproving look.
"Is she alright?" But her tone wasn't caring, more judgemental.
"Yeah, she's fine..." Fred moved to stand in front of her, shielding her from McGonagall's harsh glare.
"Right then. Well, I don't care who's birthday it is, I want you all in bed, now. This better not affect our teams' performance tomorrow either." She held her robe more tightly together and picked up her candle again. Everyone waited until she was out of sight completely, before heaving a deep sigh of relief. Hayden rolled out from his hiding place and groaned.
"Ugh, my back is killing me, I'm gonna call it a night." He was staggering a little and grabbed a bottle of beer as he took Fleur's arm, who guided him out of the room.
"Yeah, it is kinda late," George took a look at Summer and back at Fred. "And I think Summer should sleep in a bed tonight, not halfway on the floor." Fred nodded, and as the others started making their way to bed, George grabbed Ginny.
"Hey Gin, can you help Summer up to her dorm... please?"
"Yeah, of course, as long as she doesn't collapse on me," she laughed curtly and went to where Fred was holding the girl up, trying to make her focus on standing up and gently tapping her face. Ginny brought over a glass of water and passed it to Fred, who put it to Summer's lips.
"Come on Sum, just one sip, then Ginny is gonna take you up." After no response, he adjusted his arm from around her waist to support her underarms and lifted her to standing.
"Put it next to her bed will you, Gin? She's gonna want it later." She nodded and helped support Summer as the twins passed her over to her.
"Night Freddie, happy birthday," Summer leaned out of Ginny's arms to wrap them around the boy, who hugged her back for a moment, before passing her back.
"Alright love, bedtime for you I think. Night night." He blew her a kiss and watched until she was up the stairs and out of sight.
"They used their wands to clear up some final bits and pieces and waited until every cushion flew back into its place, before going up to bed themselves.
❀❀❀
The light streamed in through the open curtains of her dormitory room. Immediately, a pounding sensation felt like it was hitting off the walls of her skull, and she sat up slowly, hoping there was a glass of water nearby. To her dismay, she saw that it was on the other side of her bedside table. She pointed at it with her wand, and said "Accio." It zoomed over a bit too fast, and flew upwards, hitting the posts of her bed, and smashing over her face. She let out a yelp, and covered her eyes from the flying shards, and scrambled to get off the bed and out the way.
That was the last time she would attempt spells she wasn't the best at whilst half asleep. As she moped to the bathroom, she started to feel something wet on her face, and placed a finger to it, only to discover that it was blood. She cursed, suddenly feeling the pain, and as she pulled her hand away from her face, noticed the time display on her wristwatch.
"Shit!" The quidditch match was in an hour, and she was nowhere near ready. Summer threw open her wardrobe, and pulled out her quidditch uniform, tugging it on as fast as she could. When she had tied her hair up behind her in some sort of braided mess, she ran to the bathroom to brush her teeth quickly.
She knew she had no time for breakfast, and still felt a bit groggy from the night before, but had taken a sip of potion her brother had given her for times like these. She could already feel the effects of it kick in, and was almost feeling good before she spotted her face in the bathroom mirror. The heavy bags under her eyes weren't the worst of it, the centre of attention being the gash across her cheek- with a piece of glass still in it. The sight made her feel faint, and it took everything she had to take the piece - which was luckily large enough to grab with her fingers- and take it out, chucking it in the bin next to her.
She grabbed a wad of tissue, and held it to her face, in hopes that it would stop bleeding in the next forty-five minutes, and headed out the door to the common room. When she reached it, she saw the twins waiting for her at the bottom of the steps, arms folded, looking slightly pissed off.
"Bloody hell!"
"There you are!"
"We thought we were going to have to send Ginny up to go and get you!"
"I'm sorry, let's just go."
"Wait a second... Fred held her arm back and swivelled the girl around so that she faced him. "What happened to your face?" He pulled her arm away from where she was holding the tissue and gasped when he saw the cut.
"I just had an accident with a glass and 'Accio', okay? I already feel stupid enough."
"Shouldn't you go to Madame Pomfrey for that?" Fred took a closer look.
"Yeah, looks deep..."
"After the match, I don't have time right now." She dragged the twins with her to the portrait hole and they began their route to the grounds.
"That's the last time I let Hayden and Lee give you the Firewhisky," Fred muttered on their way.
"And we thought we had it bad, having to get up early for our test." Summer stopped in her tracks.
"Shit, of course! How did it go?" The twins looked at each other before cracking their biggest grin yet.
"We passed."
"With distinction."
"Oh wow!" Summer jumped up and down and engulfed them in a hug. "Congratulations guys! If that doesn't give us good luck for the match, I don't know what will."
"Definitely not the weather, look at those clouds..." Fred pointed up at the sky above, Summer saw great looming grey clouds, drifting slowly in their direction.
"Oh, I hope they hold off for at least an hour," Summer said gloomily, "At least then we can try and get a head start." The twins agreed, and they entered the team room next to the Quidditch pitch.
The first ten minutes of the match had been nothing out of the ordinary, then the rain came, at first, Summer felt fine, just a little wet. But as it got heavier and heavier, and her clothes began to stick to her skin, it got harder to stay focused. Every breath she took she had to face downwards, to prevent any water from entering her mouth with the air, and now she began to feel panicked. On top of this, she could barely see the other players, let alone the quaffle, and felt frozen in place on her broom, a couple of hundred metres from the hard, wet ground. She tried to dive down to rejoin the game, but the rain felt like a weight, pushing down on her shoulders, and soon she became more preoccupied with staying on her broom than getting the quaffle.
Fred zoomed over to float near her.
"Are you alright Sum?" His voice sounded distant through the sound of the rain, it was everlasting, not even pausing for a minute so that she could think clearly. "Summer?" He was closer now, she could tell that by the volume of his voice. But she couldn't move her lips to answer, the words were in her throat, but seemed to refuse to come any further. She felt him place an arm around her side as if he were afraid of her stability on her broom.
"Sum please answer me, is it your face? What's going on?" He wiped the soaking hair out from her eyes and held her face in his hands.
"I-" But out of nowhere, a bludger came flying toward them. Fred abandoned her side and raced to it, taking a swing and hitting it at such speed that within seconds it was gone out of sight again. But when he turned to focus his attention back on Summer, she had gone, drifting with the wind to the other side of the pitch.
"Fred! You have to help me! I can't take on both bludgers!" George shouted over to him, and Fred reluctantly followed his brother, still keeping an eye out for Summer.
"Where the hell is Summer?!" Angelina raised her voice over the howling of the rain, as she flew past the twins, who both shook their heads.
Meanwhile, Summer was hovering way above the Quidditch pitch, her breathing quick, and was trying to decide what to do, when she spotted someone else flying up towards her. They weren't wearing Hufflepuff or Gryffindor robes, and Summer wondered who it could be. Possibly Madame Pomfrey? No, it was a masculine figure approaching. Soon enough, he came into view, and she was shocked to see that it was her brother. It looked as though he had grabbed a school broom in order to reach her.
"Summer, what's going on?" He slowed down next to her, and adjusted his position so that he could hug her. She grabbed onto him for dear life it seemed, and he held her head toward him as she shook.
"The rain..." She mumbled into his shoulder. "Makes me feel like I'm back there."
"In the lake?" Hayden put two and two together. "Summer, I promise that you can't drown in the rain, it's impossible."
"I know, it just brought me back there, to when I couldn't see the surface anymore, and water was beginning to replace the air in my lungs, and I got scared." She sat up on her broom again, and stared down at the match. "I'm letting everyone down now."
"No, you're not, you needed to take a breather, it's more important that you're safe, okay?" He placed an arm around her shoulders in support.
"Yeah, I guess. How did you know I was up here though?"
"Well I couldn't see you for ages, then Fred flew over and asked me to come and check on you. I should really get back though, before I get in any trouble, I think McGonagall hates me enough already." This made Summer laugh, causing Hayden to grin at her. "You gonna be alright?" Summer nodded, and they went their separate ways- Hayden down to the stands, and Summer back to the centre of the action. So Fred had asked him to check on her? She watched him hitting a bludger at some Hufflepuff chaser, and caught his eye. He winked, and dove back into play. As did Summer, who caught the quaffle from the keeper, and raced down the length of the pitch with it clutched in her arms, she scored easily enough, earning cheers from the Gryffindor stands, and one from the Slytherin ones.
The effect that the rain was having on her was still in the back of her mind, but she allowed it not to overtake, distracting herself from it by focusing on the match wholeheartedly this time. She put away the ball twice more, before Cedric and Harry began diving for the snitch- causing all the players to stop abruptly and watch. As expected, Harry caught it, and they were thankful too, as if Cedric had caught it, they weren't enough points ahead to have still won.
Summer touched down with the rest of the team, who were all yelling happily. The Gryffindors all ran onto the pitch, and she noticed Hayden had too, although it was to see Cedric, whom he patted on the back. But there wasn't' much need, as Summer knew he was fair and knew when someone won, they deserved it, and he was being extremely graceful about this particular loss. The twins lead them out of the stands, holding Harry up in the air.
"Wish Wood was here to see this," Alicia said, but no matter how gloomy her voice sounded, her face was stuck in a permanent smile, it was contagious, and they all followed Fred and George into the grounds, basking in the fresh glow of the Spring sunlight.
