Chapter 17

The mad laughter kept ringing in a long winded nightmare, before the call was cut.

No one in the room moved.

"Jae Hoon," Hong Yi said at last, "Wasn't the reason he went mad because of the debts he collected working with you and paying them back using collaterals of his shares. He knew that you were going to take everything from him and that was the reason of his mental breakdown, right?"

Oh Na Rae was frozen with horror. With an escalating panic stricken voice, she babbled out in a steady stream, "I am telling you, I did give Young master the drug. He drank it in front of me. The reason he might have woken up earlier than normal was maybe because he has always had a strong threshold for alcohol. Maybe that was why the effect wore off earlier than normal. If what you say is true, Young Master has been dead for over an year. Today in fact marks his death anniversary!! Do you, you know what this means?!!! He is coming for us!! He is coming for the sins we committed to him!! HE IS COMING BACK FROM THE DEAD!!"

Ji Oh reached out and soundly slapped the woman.

"WHAT KIND OF TRICK IS THIS???" She then turned around to the group of servants huddling together, "OPEN. THE. DAMN. DOORS! I HAVE HAD IT WITH THE CHEAP TRICKS OF THIS INCOMPETENT FAMILY!"

The servants all scurried to try to obey her orders.

THE BEACH HOUSE :

"I think we are all a little drunk" Anya said, then trotted towards the house, "Lets go inside"

Mira was buzzed a little and made a big show of standing up and melodramatically pointing at her friend, "Just say you want to go to your boyfriend! Speaking of who, TELL HIM TO SHOW UP IN FRONT OF ME!!!" she walked along with Anya, complaining away, "Its also been a year of me not seeing him!"

"Ya know!" a happy and completely drunk Soyeon chirped, "Its strange how easily and fast we adapted to him being a ghoooost! Right sweetie!!!"

So Hyun grunted at the elbow jabs he received, but half carried his sweetheart while answering, "Frankly I am more surprised in the way it seemed to fit in."

"I KNOW!!!!" Mira turned back to walk backwards while talking to her brother, "Its like, his psycho ass was predestined to be a OUCHHH!"

"Don't call my man psycho! He is the most sweetest person. He is always patiently-" Anya entered the house, sat down on the floor in front of a perfectly fine and empty sofa then solemnly continued informing her foolish friends, "-gentle. He listens and observes what you like or not. He pays attention to every word I speak. He is always careful to never hurt me, whether it be in words or deeds. Even in his anger, he cannot bear to truly hurt me. He is one of the most eloquent and understanding soul."

Flopping down to lay like a star fish on the floor, she sadly said, "he is protective. Even in his possessiveness, he never restricted me. Neither did he ever get angry at other for whatever wrong the committed towards him, only when that harm spilled over to me.

Anyone will be lucky to have an angel like him."

the person who had the highest empathy among them all, Soyeon, became emotional on hearing Anya, leaving So Hyun, she staggered to where she was imitating a soft noodle and hugged her, "My Blueberry. You are right!!!"

Anya accepted the hug, resting her head on her shoulder, "Its just that, there is a lot that he hid. His past."

Nodding vigorously, Soyeon still comforted her, "But he still is your gentle angel, or better yet, your devoted guard!!!"

Anya smiled whimsically, "He does treat me like a Queen."

Mira and So Hyun just sighed, locking the doors and going towards the kitchen to get the pre prepared dinner out.

Gentle angel.

Right. . . . .

More like Angel of Death.

COUNTRY HOUSE :

Chaos ruled the time that ticked away silently, unnoticed.

Panic and mounting fear bound itself in the hearts of all the people who felt a sense of struggle for life that they had no chance of winning.

Madness tinged the actions of the frightened souls, which brought out their true selves.

"WHY?? HOW??" Hong Yi had lost all his collected self, crazily dashing from the door to the windows, having given up on the door, started trying to locate something to shatter the window glasses.

Kang Ryong was utterly terrified, shaking with fear, not having any strength in his shrivelled self to even attempt to stand from where he had been sitting all this time.

"DON'T JUST STAND THERE!" Ji Oh felt her heart starting to race. It just did not make sense. And what did not stay in the realm of logical. . . was something she did not want to venture in.

She looked at Jong Gi who was close to fainting, with his lips trembling and his hands around himself, trying to have some little form of protection from the unknown.

"Who was Jae Hoon talking about??" Ji Oh asked loudly, getting worked up knowing that any answer might not be forthcoming, given the state the Kang's were in.

But to her surprise, Kang Ryong answered quite simply, "Namjoon."

He looked at her when he answered.

That scared Ji Oh more than the situation at hand. The old man's eyes looked sunken in his face. . . they looked haunted with utter, mind numbing fear, "He is here."

"Namjoon??" Hong Yi scoffed, "Last I checked Namjoon is no magician to pull this sort of trick!! DRAT IT!!! WHY THE FUCK ARE THE GLASSES NOT SHATTERING!!"

THUD

The loud sound of something big falling on the floor grabbed the attention of everyone. Turning around to find the source, they saw one of the servants fallen on the floor, his eyes closed.

No one moved for a while.

Cautiously, Yoon Soo went to the body of the servant and poked him once before retreating fast. When nothing happened, he rolled the body of the servant to his back, intending to check his pulse.

"I-is h-he dead?" Jong Gi stuttered the one question on every person's mind.

"W-why would he be dead?" Ji Oh was slowly being shaken but she edged towards the servant while Yoon Soo shook his head, "No. he is alive. Just. . . . sleeping."

"What?!?!?" Hong Yi still kept his distance, "Why would he suddenly fall asleep?"

"SHUT IT WILL YOU?" Ji Oh screamed. "Its because of your idiotic imaginations that things are appearing to be scary when its not! And you two!" Ji Oh stalked towards Kang Ryong and Jong Gi who were by now sweating, "Why are you appearing to be so scare-"

THUD.

THUD.

THUD.

THUD.

THUD.

The remaining 5 servants fell down where they stood, one after the other, unconscious.

The chill of fear finally stung everyone left in the house.

"Wh-what is hap-happening?" Ji Oh muttered as she looked around, "What Is this?" she whispered again. Her eyes, wandering about the fallen bodies and then frantically over the closed windows, roamed ceaselessly around the house, until it landed on one object. Immediately, she ran to where the phone was.

Not waiting for any prompt, she grabbed the receiver with a kernel of hope of getting out of kaleidoscope of deepening nightmare only to find that it was already beginning to get worse.

The phone was disconnected.

"I told you, I told you! I gave the poison to Young Master." Stiff with fear, lips becoming white with the impending sense of doom, Oh Na Rae whispered with extreme fear, "If what you told today was true, Young Master is dead."

"SHUT UP!!!!" Ji Oh chucked the nearest paperweight in the direction of the old woman, narrowly missing her, "SHUT THE FUCK UP OR ELSE THE ONE WHO WILL BE DEAD WILL BE YOU!!" she raged.

Though Oh Na Rae continued to mutter in fear, no one spoke to Ji Oh. Because everyone knew, underneath that anger, was a heavy layer of fear painted in the most ugly shade of foul mud.

With his heart beating loud enough to mute the surrounding sounds, Jong Gi looked at his father, "It cant be, can it Father?"

That, was precisely when, the seven people became aware of the rapid cold spreading through the house. They stared at Jong Gi, whose speaking produced a puff of cold air visible to the naked eye.

The chill was excruciatingly painful, seeping to their bones, the icy cold colliding with the rapid flow of adrenaline due to sheer fear.

The cold felt evil, making their limbs go numb.

Hong Yi stood against the door, near the family of 3 servants who were snivelling on the floor. Ji Oh backed away step by step as she mumbled, "What is happening? What is happening?"

The small coffee table in the middle, slowly, extremely slowly, started shaking.

The movement was hardly noticeable at first, but it grew in intensity steadily, until the table was violently shaking by itself on the place where the seven people surrounding it.

Frightened to tears and colder than a corpse, the seven people screamed in unison. But even before their screams reached mid point, the sound manifested a more intense sight.

All inanimate objects except the walls, floor and the humans in the room gradually fell in the same way.

Every picture frame on the wall, every table, every chair, every clock, every desk, each and every things violently fell on the floor, smashing through the reality of logic and rendering the whole house with debris which, even though broken, still did not stop its movement.

The cacophony of breaking, shattering and things continuously hitting the floor was deafening.

Hong Yi fell over as he screamed till his throat hurt, while Ji Oh went mute with clenching, twisted, throbbing fear.

Jong Gi grabbed his father, wanting to make a mad dash for the closed door when a soft chuckle ran through the halls.

All activities ceased at once, the house going eerily quiet.

Trembling all over the body, the stunned people, still paralysed with horror gasped when one by one the sound of breaking of glass became louder than churning sea in a moment where even the whisper of a butterfly's wings was enhanced.

With it, the lights, one by one went out.

Petrified with acute fear, the seven people could only look as the lightbulbs kept bursting till the closed house with six unconscious humans plunged in absolute darkness.

With it, came a cultured voice, deep in its seduction, vicious insanity disguised in a smile.

"You are too noisy." Another chuckle, but the voice turned deadly, "I don't like that."
