Chapter 10

The door. . . still did not open.

"What the hell?" Anya stood in front of the main door, confused.

She grabbed the door handle tightly in her hand and pulled with a jerk, but it would not budge.

The house is not old enough for the door to be jammed.

Finding it only a little strange, Anya went to open the window facing the sea in the seating room. She grabbed the handle and pulled casually, then with increasing amount of force. . . . with no result.

Disbelief flooded her. She stepped back, clenching and unclenching her hands from the imprint of the handle of the window.

A rising sense of absurdity mixed with a bit of fear churned inside her stomach.

She looked around the beautiful house, just as homey and comfy as it had been. The batter remained covered on the kitchen counter where she had left it, the light blanket still draped over the sofa, the curtains pulled to the side letting the sunlight in.

Different sparrows sat on the sills of the window, chirping merrily, the sound of the wave easily reaching er ears. Everything around her was the picture of a merry and happy house.

Except for the fact, that she could not get out.

One by one, and then with increasing sense of panic, Anya rushed to all windows on the ground floor, not leaving even a single one. Every window was shut tight, with not a single inch of it moving. She put all her strength in opening it, but it just felt as if they were nailed shut.

By now, the creeping sense of horror had engulfed her heart. The cheery late afternoon state of the spacious rooms filled with tasteful and comfortable furniture was looking hypocritically scary to her.

This cannot be real.

Her heart was racing like crazy, her breaths starting to come in pants.

Upstairs. Its just one floor. Can easily jump down.

Not giving up on hope, Anya dashed to her room, stumbling and almost falling on the carpet as she madly went to clutch at the closed windows which she clearly remembered, had been open, when she had gone downstairs.

"Come on!!!!" she pulled it hard enough to hurt herself, but achieved to get exhausted with no results.

"No. no. This, this is not real." Full-fledged Panic setting in, the silent house was becoming loud in its frightening wake.

Anya tried hard to calm down, trying to think but all she could hear now was her heart beating loudly. The air in the house was just as normal as it had always been, nothing seemingly out of place. There were no creaking sounds, no negativity, no nothing.

Everything was normal.

Which only served to scare her more.

There was NO possible logical reason for this. Even considering it to be a hallucination, Anya dug her nails on her right forearm, leaving crescent shaped wounds. The physical pain confirmed her to be cognizant and alert to the unnatural nightmare.

She went about entering each room, unveiling the fact that the house was shut in every manner. The door to the roof similarly, could not be opened.

Swallowing hard, Anya let out a shaky breath, then decided to run downstairs. Once there, she cautiously reached for the phone, fearing there to be no dial tone.

But that fear, at least, was unfounded.

Breathing a little easier, she quickly dialled Mira's House number. The phone connected and started ringing just as it normally would.

Her call, was taken by the servant of the house and kept on hold, just as it always had been.

After just a few seconds, Mira picked up the call, "Blueberry?"

That voice brought forth a burst of hope making Anya sniffles with relief, "The house, I cant go out." Her voice was thready.

"What?"

Her hands were trembling, the powerful fear which had rapidly taken root, was slowly lessening. Even though the situation was unexpected, with no further strange occurrence or further abnormality, Anya slowly, calmed herself.

There was no stranger in the house, no doors to the basement banged open. No mist filtered through, no objects were misplaced. No shrieks, no sudden turning on of electric appliances.

When with passing time, nothing changed, it helped with the sudden tide of chilling fear to abate.

She realized, except of being locked in, there were no threats to her.

"I cant open the door." She managed to say with a stable voice, "Nor can I open any windows. I cannot get out of the house."

The birds on the sill continued to chirp, fighting and playing around.

"I am still not following you." Mira's tone took on a sharp edge, "What do you mean that you cant get out?? Have you tried all windows??"

"Yes. Every door. Every window. Its not jammed, just. . . wont open."

"Wait, wait. What? You-not just the main gate, but no window? What about the windows that remain open?" Mira asked.

"All windows of the house are closed. I can't open any."

"Why did you close them in the first place?"

Anya replied with a little anger, "I did not! They were open, now they aren't! I pulled on the handles to the point of being bruised on my palm! The door is just not opening. None of the windows are opening either. I cannot get out of the house and I have been trying for a good 20 minutes till now."

"WHY THE HELL ARE YOU SO CALM??"

Absolutely losing it, Anya screamed back "WILL YOU STOP SHOUTING!?!?!? I AM THE ONE WHO IS ALL ALONE IN THE HOUSE!!!! INSTEAD OF SPOOKING ME FURTHER YOU SHOULD HELP ME KEEP IT TOGETHER YOU DOLL HEADED USELESS SPIRITUAL GARBAGE FRIEND!!!!"

Mira coughed a little, "No, if you would have given this response earlier, I would not have screamed. You being all serene was what had me worried."

"Mira keep your serenity and drown yourself in it for all I care! Can you just help me??" Anya grit out.

"Yeah, yeah, we'll start right away. Grandpa and us were finished with our discussion anyways. Nothing else is out of the ordinary right? Nothing else is strange?"

"You want something more stranger than a house that may potentially be alive, keeping me captive inside?? Why? Would you love that I get a side dressing of a serial killer apparently hiding in the basement and finding a chance of me being alone decideing to come out to, I don't know, MURDER ME????"

"Jeez, stop reading all those crime thrillers, can you? Just. . . sit tight." Then she asked in an afterthought, "Where were you heading out to?"

"The Kang family house." Anya replied, feeling a little exhausted now that the high strung dread had drained away.

The other side of the phone became silent at that. Only the sounds of Mira's breath came, prompting Anya to ask, "What? What's wrong?"

When she answered, Mira's voice was strangely sedate, strangely, constrained. "Blueberry? Try the door once more and then come back to the phone."

"I told you I tried too many times. My hands are all red and if I try again I am afraid I'll just cut myself from the efforts!"

"Blueberry." Mira said again, "Please do as I say. Try the door, then come back. You don't have to use any amount of force. Just try opening it naturally."

"Why do I humour you so much?" Anya moaned as she kept the receiver on the table then went to the main door. Pulling on the door handle slightly, she stumbled back again in fright when the door swung open very easily.

The fear that had just abated returned with vengeance. She scrambled back to the phone, "The door-the door-"

"Is it open now?" Mira asked calmly.

"WHAT IS GOING ON??"

"Ambulance and Police came swarming in the Kang Family manor just a few minutes before your call came Blueberry. There has been some kind of accident involving Jae Hoon here."

Confused, Anya failed to compute the significance.

"It seems, that house, was preventing you from heading here. Stay there. Don't leave. We are coming back."
