Cariad Madeline Keene, known professionally as Cariad (born June 1st 1998) is an English-Welsh singer-songwriter. Born in Kingston-upon-Thames, London, England, to Welsh parents, she rose to prominence aged 18 upon the release of her first single, Complicated.

⌃ EARLY LIFE
Cariad was born on June 1st, 1998 in Kingston-upon-Thames. She is the daughter of comedian Rhodri Keene and florist Audrey Keene (née Davies), both of whom are Welsh born. Cariad grew up as a close personal friend of actor Tom Holland, due to her father's close friendship with his father Dominic Holland.

She has a twin sister, Angharad, who currently works in web design, having gained experience editing her sister's YouTube videos and later designing her professional website. The pair are said to have drifted in recent years, but used to be incredibly close.

⌃ CAREER
Cariad began singing at a young age, posting videos of her music online in 2008 at the age of 10 with the support of best friend Tom Holland, who had just began his career on the West End in Billy Elliot: The Musical. She garnered lots of support, with an amassed subscriber count of 500,000 by the time of her first single release in 2015.

Cariad's first single, Complicated, was released in 2015 and received positive critical reviews. Having released two EPs since — Love Myself and Trust Issues — she is said to be gearing up to release her first full-length album in 2020.

She has recently been cast in the second series of Disney+ original series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. This is her first acting role, in which she is set to play Lucy Herman. Filming begins for the show in early 2020.

⌃ PERSONAL LIFE
Keene has talked openly about her struggles with her mental health, with 15% of her merchandise revenue being donated to mental health charity MIND since her merchandise range was released.

Keene dated 5 Seconds of Summer lead-guitarist Michael Clifford for two years from 2016-17, but remains close friends with him and his band. In a joint statement announcing their break-up, the pair said, "Some people are just meant to be friends — and for us, we've realised that that is simply the case." Keene has not publicly been in a relationship since, but has been spotted on various dates, whilst Clifford has since become engaged.

Keene lives in a three bedroom London home with long-term best friend Tom Holland, with the pair known to spend much of their time together along with their other close friend, Harrison Osterfield. They share two dogs, Ozzie and Tessa. Throughout their friendship, there has been much speculation about whether they are romantically linked. Both Holland and Keene have vehemently denied this, stating that they're "just close friends."
