ATHENA'S DOMAIN

Ajax Draven's POV 

"That's strange. Your ichor concentration reading always results in an error. I wonder what's wrong," sabi ng doktor. Inayos nito ang salamin at tiningnang mabuti ang data sa clipboard niya. She's the physician assigned to the Stellars, Dr. Stella Smith, a direct descendant of Apollo.

"Well, you can go home for now. I'll request a new testing device for you. Your other tests are normal so you can participate in your missions."

"Thank you, Doc. I'll be going now."

Nang makalabas ako ay nakita ko sina Aliyah sa labas. "How did it go?"

"Ayos lang naman. Wala namang problema, except sa ichor concentration ng dugo ko."

"Don't worry. Ganyan din ang nangyari kay Kuya Dei before," saad ni Eliora.

Naglakad na kami palabas ng hospital ng Greek Institution for demigods. Ito ang restaurant na pinuntahan namin para sa gracing ceremony. Turns out, isa pala talaga itong establishment for the demigods in the Philippines. Dito ginaganap lahat ng main events dahil ito ang main institution sa Pilipinas.

The building is composed of a hospital, training rooms, group suites, hall, restaurant, and the office for registrations and such. Dito rin pwedeng kumuha ng commissions para sa merits, maging ang pagtanggap ng special missions na ni-request ng deities.

Nang makarating kami sa lobby ay nadatnan namin ang iba. May binabasang scroll sina Dillon at Aidan, ang isa naman ay nakatingin lamang sa malayo.

Noong makita kami ni Deion ay tumayo na ito. "Let's talk in the car."

"We received a special mission from Athena. She wants us to locate where the spiders are inhabiting inside her domains and kill them. Some of her servants are missing already, and some parts of the forests are covered with webs."

Eliora gasped loudly. "Yikes! Kadiri naman. Pwede ba akong hindi sumama, Kuya Dei?" nakangiwing komento niya.

"No." Natawa ako nang makita ang ekspresyon sa mukha niya.

"The portal?"

Inilapag ni Deion sa harap namin ang scroll at itinuro ang nakasulat.

'If one wishes to find my haven, seek for the stars. The dark shall direct your path, but beware and don't dwell upon the shadows.'

"Gaano ba kahirap para kay Athena na magbigay ng direct orders? She's always speaking in riddles!" nakasimangot na reklamo ni Aidan at nagdadabog na tumayo at lumipat sa driver's seat.

"Hindi ka pa nasanay. Tsaka bakit mo pa ba pinoproblema 'yan e hindi naman ikaw ang nag-iisip?" saad naman ni Aliyah tsaka tumingin kay Deion.

"Dan, let's go to the Galaxy Gallery. The entrance is there." Maya-maya pa ay umandar na ang sasakyan. Paano naman nalaman kaagad ni Deion 'yon? Dahil ba sa stars? Hindi ba panglito lamang 'yon? Paano kung may sinisimbolo ito? Pero hindi ko naman siguro kailangang pakialaman ang mga utos ni Deion. Mas matagal na sila sa mundong ito at mas marami silang nalalaman sa ginagalawan ko ngayon. Magtitiwala na lamang ako sa kanila.

Malayo pa naman kami mula sa gallery na pupuntahan namin kaya ipinikit ko muna ang mga mata ko. Tatlong oras lamang ang tulog ko dahil sa mga target ko kagabi. Nakakapagod pa rin ang lahat ngunit mas magaan na ito ngayon kumpara noon. Ngayon ay mas hawak ko na ang oras ko at hindi ko na ito kinakailangang hatiin. Wala na rin akong kailangang isakripisyong isang bagay para magawa ang isa.

Wala pang ilang segundo ay naramdaman ko ang sarili ko na kinain na ng kadiliman.

Nagising ako nang maramdaman ang mahinang pagtapik sa pisngi ko. "Draven, wakey wakey! We're here!"

Nang magmulat ako ay ang masiglang si Eliora ang bumungad sa akin kaya't napangiti ako kaagad. She's really bright, nakakahiyang hindi ibalik ang energy niya.

"Seems like you slept well. May laway ka pa sa pisngi." Nanlaki ang mga mata ko nang marinig ang sinabi ni Deion. Kinapa ko agad ang pisngi ko habang dinudukot ang panyo sa bulsa ko.

Teka...parang wala namang basa sa pisngi ko.

"Kidding. Go out. Don't keep the others waiting." Pinigilan ko ang sarili kong ibato sa kanya ang bag na nasa tabi ko. Akala ko ba ay cold at walang pakialam sa mundo ang lalaking 'yon? Bakit lagi niya akong pinagti-trip-an? Mas mabuti pa nga siguro kung hindi niya ako kinakausap. Itong kidlat na 'to...

Isinukbit ko na sa likod ang bag ko at bumaba ng sasakyan. Nasa entrance na sila ng building kaya't tumakbo ako papalapit sa kanila.

The guards checked our bags before letting us inside the building. Dumeretso kami sa lobby at bumili ng pass para sa bawat isa.

Nang makapasok kami nang tuluyan sa loob ay namangha ako dahil sa ganda ng galaxy gallery. Nabago na pala ang itsura nito. Bata pa kasi ako nang huli akong pumunta rito, noong buhay pa si mama. All I can say is that it changed a lot. Ilang renovations ba ang pinagdaanan nito?

Nakuha ng isang star ang atensyon ko. Bigla na lamang itong lumitaw sa paanan ko, kasabay ng ibang stars na nasa paanan din ng iba ko pang mga kasama. Nang gumalaw ito ay sinundan lamang namin ang mga ito.

Habang naglalakad sa loob ay hindi ko mapigilan ang sarili ko na pagmasdan ang paligid. Mukha namang walang kakaiba sa lugar na 'to. Parang normal na gallery lamang talaga.

Tumigil kami sa isang madilim na parte, ang black hole. This is the darkest part of the gallery. No light passes from the outside so it was pitch black in here. It doesn't really imitate that of the black hole because there isn't any strong pulling force in here.

"We're here. Eli, light." I heard a cold voice behind me.

From the darkness, Eliora's eyes shone together with her sword. Oh, nice. An improvised flashlight.

From the wall, an owl's head made of gold appeared. It looks like a hologram because it was really faint. Was it supposed to be the doorknob to Athena's domain?

Umalis si Deion sa likuran ko at hinawi ako. Biglang lumitaw ang isang dagger sa kamay niya. Itinapat niya ito sa palad niya at gumawa ng isang hiwa kaya't napapikit ako at napalunok. Matapos nito ay lumapit siya sa ulo ng kwago at pinatakan ito ng dugo. Unti-unting luminaw ang doorknob at ngayon ay kitang-kita na ang pagiging solid nito.

Deion pressed the knob—button. I was so stupid. Button pala ang ulong iyon. The wall suddenly shone. Then, the rocks started to move in a circular motion until it became a black hole that has a gold sand and white strings of light inside. Where's the pulling force—

"AAAAH!" Eliora and Aidan screamed as a tremendous amount of force pulled us inside the black hole.

I didn't know what to do but I didn't want to scream so I just grabbed onto something that I could grasp and closed my eyes tightly. Hindi naman ako nakasakay sa space shuttle pero bakit parang bumabaliktad ang mga lamang-loob ko? Ipinapanalangin ko na lang na hindi ako mahilo at masuka pagkatapos nito.

This damn portal.

After a few minutes, I felt the spinning motion stopped. Tapos na ba? Pwede na ba akong magmulat?

"We're here. You don't need to hold on to me this tight."

"Edi sorry. Hindi mo naman kasi ako binalaan. Ganoon pala 'yon." Pinagpagan ko ang parte ng damit niya na nagusot dahil sa akin.

Masyado na akong maraming kahihiyan na nagagawa. Kailangan ko na 'tong itigil dahil marami na siyang hawak na pang-asar sa akin. Knowing Deion, gagawin niya lahat ng ikaiinis ko.

"Are you silently cursing me?"

Sinuntok ko siya nang pabiro sa braso at inismiran. "Hulaan mo."

Isang huni ng kwago ang umalingawngaw sa buong gubat. Lahat kami ay napatingin sa punong pinanggalingan nito. Sa isang matayog na puno ay mayroong isang kwago na kulay abo. The owl possesses a pair of irises in the color of the sky whenever there is a storm. They were beautiful. Its feather have some gold streaks. It looks intimidating, unlike the other owls I see, and it stands so proud. The owl spreads its wings and flew towards our direction. Then, it settled on Deion's arms. He patted the owl's head and the bird leaned in to his touch.

"Can I carry Nimbus, Kuya Dei?" Katulad ng request ni Eliora ay inilapit ni Deion ang ibon sa kanya. Ngunit nang akmang kukuhanin na siya ni Eli ay tinuka siya nito kaya't napasimangot siya.

Napailing na lamang ako dahil sa dalawa.

Bagay sa kwago ang pangalan niya...Nimbus. "Nimbus is Deion's pet. It was given to her by the goddess of wisdom herself on his 18th birthday," pagbibigay-alam ni Aliyah na nasa tabi ko na pala.

Nang mapatingin ako sa gawi ng dalawa ay napatango ako. It looks like Nimbus was born for Deion, because they were alike in some ways. Ang swerte naman pala ng damuhong si Deion para bigyan siya ng diyosa ng regalo, lalo pa't kwago ang ibinigay niya. If I remember it correct, owl is Athena's sacred bird. Sinuman ang mareregaluhan niya ay ituturing kong swerte.

The owl suddenly flapped its wings and flew towards me. Buong akala ko ay tutukain ako nito kaya't ipinikit ko ang mga mata ko. Nagtaka naman ako nang ilang segundo na ang lumipas ay wala pa rin akong nararamdamang kirot, pero dama ko na bumigat ang balikat ko.

When I opened my eyes, I saw him on my shoulders, head tilted and eyes wide. It looks like it's examining me. Maya-maya pa ay isinuksok nito ang ulo sa leeg ko habang nakapikit.

"Looks like Nimbus found his favorite," komento ni Aidan habang nakatingin sa amin ni Nimbus.

Napangiti na lang ako habang pina-pat ang ulo ng kwago.

"Let's go."

We continued walking while Aliyah was explaining all about domains. Apparently, there are different portals that leads to a deity's domain. However, only the specific portal the deities mention can be the only portal you can use. Kapag hindi iyon ang ginamit mong portal, kahit pa portal iyon ng deity na 'yon, ay hindi ka makakarating sa domain niya. Nalaman ko rin na may access ang lahat ng demigods sa domain ng deities nila. Bakit kaya hindi pa ini-introduce ni Thanatos ang domain niya sa akin? Ampon kaya ako?

Pinagmasdan ko ang paligid habang nakikinig kay Aliyah. Iba't iba ang klase ng puno rito sa gubat na nilalakaran namin. Ang iba ay namumunga, ang iba nama'y hindi. Mayroon din ditong mga bush na hindi ganoon kalago. Para bang maging ang mga puno ay mahikal dahil mula sa mga ito ay may naaaninag akong malamlam na kinang.

Ang isang bagay na pinakakapansin-pansin dito ay ang mga sapot na nagkalat. Malalaki ang karamihan sa mga ito na para bang hindi mga pangkaraniwang mga gagamba ang nakatira sa mga ito. Ang iba pa sa mga sapot ay mayroong itlog ng gagamba na para bang kasinlaki ng itlog ng manok.

"Yikes. Ang daming sapot. Kuya Dei, pwede ba akong umuwi?" Umiling lamang naman ang huli sa tanong ni Eliora.

Kusang lumabas sa kamay ko ang espada ni Thanatos nang maramdaman ko ang maraming pares ng mga matang nakamasid sa amin. Sa isang iglap, magkakadikit na ang mga likod namin. How did we get in our defensive formation this fast?

When I looked at them, they were smirking while their swords were covered by their vigors.

I closed my eyes and leveled my blade with my eyes. With my hands at the handle and the blade, I heaved a deep breath and felt the magi circulating inside my body. Then, I felt the burning sensation in my core, that's it...my vigor.

With proper concentration, I channeled my vigor to my hands and connected it to my spathi. When I felt the tingling sensation, I smirked. I opened my eyes and I saw my father's sword engulfed in the deep purple flame-like light.

Surrounding us were numerous eyes looking at us menacingly.

I slashed my sword a few times while eyeing the spiders. One look and I can tell how monstrous these spiders are, not only because of their enormous torsos, but because of the dents their saliva makes upon contact with the ground. They became even more gross in my perspective.

The largest spider that is hanging on the web above shrieked loudly, then the other spiders charged towards us. I didn't know spiders could scream.

"Now!"

Humakbang ako nang mabilis habang hawak ko sa gilid ko ang espada. Apat na malalaking gagamba ang papunta sa kinaroroonan ko. I should finish them off with two slashes. Tumigil ako sa paghakbang at iniatras ang isang paa. Itinapat ko ang espada sa unahan ko atmahigpit na hinawakan. Nang malapit na sila sa akin ay iwinasiwas ko nang dalawang beses ang espada. Nahati sa dalawa ang mga gagamba at bumagsak sa lupa. Ganoon lamang pala—

Napakunot ang noo ko nang makitang gumagalaw pa ang mga ito. Buhay pa ang mga hayop na 'to?

"They don't die from normal attacks. Aidan!" I heard Aliyah called.

"Azarin: Serpent dance!" Suddenly, a blazing fire moved like a snake around us. When it vanished, I saw Aidan's back facing us, the Azarin was licking with fire intensely. When his sword returned to normal, the spiders turned to ashes. "Got you. Use sword arts. They won't die easily."

Mula sa likod ng puno ay may lumabas muli na mga gagamba. May iba rin na bumagsak mula sa mga sapot sa taas. May anim na gagamba na papunta sa akin kaya't inihanda ko ang espada ko. I channeled my magi vigor to the sword of Thanatos. I closed my eyes and heaved a deep breath. When I opened my eyes, the spiders were near me. "Sword of death: Death claw!" The porphyry light intensified as I swung my sword to meet the fangs of the spiders. When my sword touched the spiders, three streaks of light appeared like a claw mark. When it vanished, the spiders ended up turning to ashes.

Tuloy-tuloy ang paglabas ng mga kalaban mula sa kung saan. I don't even know how many minutes have passed since we started. We killed a lot already, but it seems that the spiders are not even halved.

"Nahara: Invading light beam!" A wide beam of light formed from Eliora's sword and traveled like radiation that sweeped the spiders off. In a blink, every spider surrounding us dropped dead and burned.

Deion drew a circle in the air using his sword and a circular lightning bolt formed. "Heaven's sword: Lightning sphere," he cast, voice lacing the usual coldness and tone. The ball moved in a circular motion like a coin spinning around. And with a slash, it traveled around us before tossing itself midair. The biggest spider nesting on his huge web shrieked as it was being fried by crackling lightning.

"Cordelia: Sharp wave!" A crashing wave roared upwards and sent the petrified spider to its final shriek.

Before it turns to ashes, a huge amount of sticky-looking webs surrounded it fast like how the egg sacs on the huge web simultaneously hatched and freed the spiderlings inside. The spiderlings turned to huge spiders, even bigger than the one wrapped in its own web. They look more hideous. I can see their bluish-green hemolymph through their translucent skins. They have eight pairs of huge eyes and a pair of horns on top of their heads. They also have numerous fangs that look like they can rip a person alive. Why are every enemy in this realm gross?

The spiders started shrieking before shooting webs at us. Those webs look dangerous. They were far from the normal webs I see before. They were a number of times thicker than the webs I know. The visible gas coming out of it looks toxic.

Sinubukan kong putulin ang mga sapot pero para bang gawa sa bakal ang mga ito dahil hindi man lang ito gumalaw kahit kaunti. Bwisit na 'to...

Isang huni na naman ang pinakawalan ng mga gagamba bago sabay-sabay na bumulusok papunta sa amin.
Aliyah stepped to the middle and raised the handle of her sword in front of her chest while she shut her eyes down. When she opened it, her irises glowed like the moon together with the edge of her sword. "Lune: Crescent rays!" Then, a crescent moon shape appeared beneath her feet, followed by a series of blinding rays. Nang matamaan ng atake ang mga sapot ay natunaw ang mga ito at bumagsak sa sahig. Napahinga ako nang maluwag nang makitang wala nang gas na lumalabas mula sa mga iyon.

"This shouldn't proceed any longer." Iniatras ni Deion ang isang paa niya at yumuko nang bahagya. I saw a flash of lightning from his irises before he smirked. "Fyodor: Lightning thread, sixfold." His voice is cold and serious as always, but the way he speaks his sword arts is laced with power. Like a flash of lightning, Deion disappeared in my line of sight, leaving only trails of yellow light. He vanished in a snap, and when I looked up, I saw six lightning-like lines, frying the gigantic spiders. The last line passed through the makeshift sac where the gross hemolymph was now dripping. Yuck.

Nang mawala na ang lahat ng mga gagamba at mga sapot ay nagpatuloy na kami sa paglalakad papasok sa courts ni Athena. The silver gates opened immediately when we neared the courts. A huge open hall that was surrounded by columns with exquisite details and a shiny finish is in the center of a fountain, a mansion, and two small houses. On the way to the court, a statue of the goddess of wisdom herself was erected, separating two ways which lead to the same destination. The eyes of the statue were unusually made of the finest emerald that shines because of the light from the sun touching it.

Napakaganda ng lugar ni Athena. Para bang nasa langit ako sa mga sandaling ito. Lahat ng punong nakapaligid sa amin ay para bang may kumikinang na mga dahon at umiilaw na mga ugat.

Nang marating namin ang harap ng court niya ay ilang attendants ni Athena ang sumalubong sa amin at yumuko. Lahat sila ay nakasuot ng cream-colored chiton at mayroong kulay green na belt. Ang mga braso naman nila ay mayroong silver na armor cuffs na mayroon ding emerald. Athena surely has some fashion sense.

Dumeretso muna kami sa court ni Athena at nagbigay ng offerings sa statue niya na nakatayo sa isang elevated platform. Matapos nito ay humarap kami sa mga attendant na sumalubong sa amin kanina.

"Good day, the goddess informed us of your expected arrival," panimula ng isa. "These are the information we can provide regarding the disappearance of some attendants." Iniabot niya sa amin ang isang scroll na agad namang tinanggap ni Dillon.

Nagpasalamat kami sa kanila at lumabas na sa courts ni Athena. Gustuhin ko man na magpahinga, wala naman akong magagawa. It is this group's pride to finish commissions like this within only a few hours. Wala naman akong magagawa dahil ginusto ko na rin naman na sumali sa kanila. Isa pa, mahahasa rin ang isip ko, pati na ang sword handling ability ko.

"The scroll says that there are seven people missing—all female. They are the weavers chosen by Athena to work on her courts," pagbibigay-alam ni Aliyah na siyang nagbabasa ng nilalaman ng scroll.

"There's only one creature who can spawn spiders and make tough webs, and who also holds a grudge against the goddess," sabi ni Dillon.

"Arachne, the weaver who dared challenge Athena's weaving."
