_______
A frantic Jalal ran out of the house towards his car.
His hands shaking as he manouvered it into use.
He drove as fast as he could, tears gathering in his eyes as his mind played the worst scenarios.
A series of "what ifs" echoing in his ears.
He hadn't felt this feeling of helplessness since...since Inaya's death.
The lump in his throat made it difficult to focus on anything else.
Unknowingly, after years, his mind, his soul turned towards The Almighty.
He was a sinner.
He knew it.
Was this God's way of punishing him?
Was this, his way of showing him just how much ne needed him?
"Aye khuda....meri biwi ki hifazat krna...Mere gunahon ki saza usko mad dena Rabb" the lump of emotions finally showing when salty droplets of water cascaded down his tan cheeks.
His drive finally coming to an end when he parked outside the hospital.
His agitated feet taking him towards the reception as he hurriedly asked about his wife.
"yes....the victims of the accident" his voice hoarse.
"Down the hallway, on the right" the receptionist gave him a look full of pity.
Jalal's throat clogging up with fear.
"Ya khudaya rehem" his lips repeated the sentence like a mantra.
His eyes came upon the group of people clustered around the few men in white.
His pain struck body taking him towards them.
His chest contracting with pain as he saw the doctors muttering a string of sorrys to most of the people around them.
"Ya khudaya rehem" .
One of the doctors turned towards him.
"Ap kis patient ky ghr waly hain?" he questioned.
"Hazal...Hazal Yousuf" his chocolate eyes connecting with the doctor's misty green ones.
'Doctor Hadi Ibrahim Ahmed' the tag on his coat read.
"Please come this way...i'd like to talk to you for a moment" The Young, dark haired man led him to a tad bit private area.
"ya khudaya rehem".
"How...how is my wife?" Jalal questioned in a hurry...worry lacing his voice.
"Mr yousuf....your wife has severe injuries on her entire body..
Her right leg is fractured...the skin on her back is slit up...her left arm's bone has moved out of place, her whole face is bruised...and..."
Jalal's eys became red every second.
"and..?" his body trembling due to the fear of what was about to come past the doctor's lips.
"And we assume that when the accident happened the car rolled upside- down..due to which your wife's stomach and face hit the ground first".
Hadi took a deep breath...it was so much more difficult to tell the condition of this patient specifically...since she was the one who suffered the most.
"Unfortunately we couldn't save the babies."
Jalal blinked.
"i think you already knew but the twins were eight weeks...there had been too much blood loss when they brought your wife in...we couldn't find any heart beat from both the embryos."
Jalal's heart stopped beating for what felt like an eternity...a choked sob escaped past his lips as his body pressed against the rigid white wall of the hospital.
His jaan was pregnant.
oh what a horrible human he was!
"I'm so sorry.." the doctor in front of him patted his back with a simpathetic look.
More sobs wrecked the broad man's built as he covered his face with his hands...crying for his children, for his wife.
__________
"Ammi...aap sbh ghr jayen...fresh ho jayen. Shubah sy idhr bhety hain" Jalal held his mother's wrinkley hand.
"Koi bhi khabar aye to fauran phone kr dyna." Maryam caressed her son's tired face .
Her lips moving with the prayers escaping her Mouth.
Jalal assured his chachi and chachu and then heaved an exausted sigh.
He nervously walked towards the door of the hospital room and gulped.
His hand gripped the knob and slowly turned it open.
His eyes watered as he looked at his girl laying limp on the white surface of the bed.
Jalal sat on the stool at Hazal's side and contemplated whether he should be holding her hand.
After all he had no right after the disgusting accusations he made against her.
What a horrible husband he was!
Salty water cascaded down his cheeks and settled in the white sheets.
Her once healthy body was now attached to various machines, bandages covered most of it.
Her bruised face resting on the pillow peacefully.
He sighed and, finally, slipped his large hand in Hazal's smaller and delicate one.
A kiss for each knuckle.
A kiss on her palm.
One for the inside of her wrist.
Two on her stomach...
which was once home to his children.
"Ya khudaya rehem".
_________
Jalal stirred as he felt movement next to him.
He blinked his lashes a few times, adjusting to the lights and then looked at his left where his wife was slowly now opening her eyes.
A strangled cry came from the back of her throat alerting her husband.
"I'll be right back.. main doctor ko bulaun" jalal kissed her forehead and rushed towards the door to get the paramedics.
...
"How are you feeling Hazal" a female doctor questioned.
Jalal stood next to his wife, caressing her head.
"B-boht dard ho r-rha hai...sbh dard ho raha hai" she squeezed her eyes shut as another jolt of pain erupted in her arm.
"I've prescribed a few painkillers along with some medicines you need to take...they will lessen the pain" the warm face of the lady in white smiled.
"I'll leave you to your husband... I'll check up on you after a few hours myself" Hazal only modded, her energy already drained.
"Thank you doctor!" Jalal nodded.
"Jalal" his name came out of her lips as a whisper.
"Meri jaan" jalal leaned forward and showered her head with kisses, thanking God for having mercy on him and his wife.
"Jalal...mere bacchy..." Hazal looked at his eyes...red,tired eyes.
She saw as he swallowed and held her hand.
"Jalal mery aulaad tkh hai na? Bolain na" she whispered helplessly when he refused to look at her.
" Khuda ky lie kuch kahain" she sobbed.
"Hazal..." A sob interrupting his words.
"Allah ny apny paas bula lia hai unhy" he caressed her pale, tear stained face.
Her body stiffened completely.
"Kya?" She desperately looked for any signs of lie.
But when she saw none her chest contracted.
"Nahii...yeh kya keh rhy hain aap..."
She looked at his teary eyes.
"khuda ny aisa kyun kia.. mere bacchy abhi is duniya main aye bhi nhi thy aur Allah ny wapis bhi le lie!" Hazal wailed, sobbing at every word.
Her cries muffled when her husband pulled her against his chest and sobbed along with her.
"Allah py bharosa rakho" he kissed her head.
