Chapter Seventeen

I didn't speak to him on the helicopter ride back. It first of all was way too loud, but secondly, I didn't really know what to say. The last time I had seen the German, he completely rejected me. Now, he was coming to save my life.

I kept telling myself to not over think it, but I couldn't help it. This man sent a troop to sneak into Turkey and save me. I couldn't be nothing to him. I couldn't imagine him doing this for America or England. Maybe I wasn't a romantic interest, but I had to be a friend at the least.

The trip was longer than I expected. Edina was not far from Turkey at all, but it seemed that we were in the air for well over an hour. However, once we did land, it made a lot more sense. We landed in front of a large palace that did not belong to me.

Germany's men dispersed one by one, instantly going to unload their gear. Germany and I were the last to exist; Germany taking the lead to help guide me out of the helicopter.

"G-Germany...what am I doing here? I need to go back to Edina. We are under—"

Germany turned to look at me. His sharp blue eyes were enough to cut me off. As much as I wanted to stay here with him, I knew that I had a greater responsibility to be fulfilling.

"You are under attack right now, and you do not have the sufficient army to protect yourself. You cannot go back right now. It would be a suicide for us to enter," Germany bluntly stated.

I couldn't help but feel a wave of emotion come upon me.

I have to go back. My people...my home... everything I have ever lived for.

I didn't want to cry, but I couldn't stop the tears from forming in my eyes.

"I have to go back and try!" I shouted at him.

He was taken off guard by my outburst, but that was the least of my problems, as I went back to the helicopter.

Germany let out a sigh. "What are you doing?"

"I'm going to save my home," I replied, trying to climb into the helicopter.

"By stealing my helicopter?" Germany questioned.

"I don't have a lot of options at the moment," I grumbled, making my way up the stairs.

Suddenly, I felt arms wrap around my waist, as I was lifted from the steps and back onto the ground.

"Stop—"

"Calm down," he whispered still behind me.

His voice sent chills down my spine, and I instantly felt off guard.

"I have already sent troops there. Tomorrow, we will both go and see that everything is taken care of," Germany spoke.

"But- why would you help me?" I asked, turning back around to face him.

However, Germany didn't look back at me. He looked off into the distance avoiding my gaze, unsure of his next move.

Instead of saying anything, Germany took my face in his large hands and kissed me. I was caught off guard, but I wasn't one to protest as I wrapped my arms around his neck, deepening the kiss. We stayed like that for what felt like an eternal bliss as his lips tangled with mine, but unfortunately, he pulled away, with a dust on pink on his cheeks and still avoiding my gaze.

"Germany..." I whispered.

"I shouldn't...I know that. I shouldn't have intervened with your encounter with Prussia or your ordeal with Turkey. I shouldn't have gotten involved...at least not for the reason that I did..." he commented, his blues eyes locking with mine, "...I couldn't help it. There is something that I'm drawn to."

I was speechless. I had to be dreaming. With the attack and now this? It couldn't be happening.

As much as I couldn't believe it, I stared at the flustered blonde before me, and this was happening. This was my moment. I took his face in my hands and pulled him closer to me, so our lips connected once more. I could feel my heart about to leap out of my chest, and Germany wrapped his arms around my waist, bringing me closer.

"I regret pushing you away after the world meeting," Germany confessed after we pulled apart. "It's just- it's so—"

"Unprofessional?" I questioned with a giggle.

Germany let out a sigh. "Exactly..."

"Germany, I think we could make it work. It would be even more problematic if we just ignored these feelings, don't you think?" I questioned.

"I supposed you may have a point," he admitted.

He looked at me once more before pulling me into a hug. "I will protect you; I promise..."

"And, we'll make this work," I promise, I replied with a smile as I nuzzled into his chest.
