Song of the night - Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas by Michael Bublé
Hey guys! As part of the the Christmas celebrations the interview with one of your favorite Christmas authors remarkable_ Before I get to the interview I'd like to give a little introduction about her.
The name's Cassidy and she's a seventeen year old filipina who's currently living in Australia. She's a fan of crime shows and a huge book enthusiast, and of course loves Christmas. Enjoy the interview!
Bluinse: Hello and welcome to Unplug The Night! So from the time you've published Learning To Love Christmas you've gained so many followers and friends, over 568k reads and around 19k votes. Tell what inspired you to make this beautiful master piece. And what were you doing when you first came up with the idea.
Cassidy: I used to write fan fiction (my dark days but it was great practice when you're only beginning to write) and the story I was writing at the time had chapters set during the holidays. I loved writing about Christmas with its festive and heartwarming atmosphere. It was just so much fun and I think I wanted to stay in that spirit, to write more about it and explore all that Christmas entails. I think that's what inspired me. As for what I was doing, I honestly can't remember. I think it was sometime in the middle of the year and I was thinking how much I wanted it to be Christmas already. So I guess I just made Christmas early for myself with this book? Hahah
B: Yup we all would love if Christmas was and everyday thing! XD Next who was your favorite character in the book and who do you relate to the most?
C: If I had to choose, my favorite character is probably Danny, Elle's younger brother. I based a few of his qualities on my own younger brother so that makes me biased haha! But he just brings such a silliness and innocence to all the scenes he's in, and I really loved writing those.
I relate to Tessa the most, I think. She's kind of an obscure character? I don't know. But from what we see of her, she's kind of bossy and doesn't read people too well (i.e. the almost kiss Winter Ball scene). She seems to spread herself too thin with all her school organisations and obligations - she really needs to chill out. That's me most of the time haha! I'm a real nerd.
B: Where a few of the characters based on people you know in real life? Maybe your own family and close friends?
C: Yes, I've based some of my characters on people I know in real life. Not wholly, just bits of those people weaved into my each character. Honestly, I've probably done it subconsciously and didn't even notice. Two characters come to mind though; Danny and Carol. I distinctly remember basing Danny on my younger brother, as I've mentioned before, and Carol on one of my best friends.
B: Aww how sweet... As far as I remember Danny was my favorite character! So we all have a movie that we love to binge watch especially around Christmas time, right? Tell me which one's yours.
C: That's so hard! I love almost every Christmas movie but if I must choose, Home Alone for sure. I watch it every year with my family. When I was around 12, my older brother and I made our younger brother watch it for the first time. He was laughing so hard and so loudly that at one point, we stopped watching the movie and started laughing along with him just because his laughter was THAT infectious. Such a classic. However, it must be acknowledged that It's a Wonderful Life and Mickey's Christmas Carol are up at the top of my list as well.
B: I know! It really isn't Christmas without watching Home Alone atleast once with our family members or our close and loved ones. Really does get us into the holiday spirit! Talk about every year what's one thing you do every year as if its a Christmas ritual?
C: My family throws a Christmas party every year during Christmas Eve, like Elle's family in the book. We're from the Philippines so Christmas Eve is celebrated just as much as Christmas Day, sometimes more. Without fail, my dad cooks the biggest feast ever and we have all our friends and relatives over. We'd first eat at 7 and when the clock strikes 12 we'd eat again - to be honest, I think we're eating perpetually during the night. It's always one of the highlights of the year, and probably the thing I look forward to the most every time.
B: I like how your you've given a reference from your book. There's one more thing to relate to now! I've asked what's your favorite holiday movie now you might as well tell us your favorite Christmas song/carol.
C: This is even harder than the question about my favorite movie! However, after much deliberation, I have to say it's a tie between It's Beginning to Look a Lot like Christmas and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. They always get me into the Christmas spirit!
B: And finally the last question for the evening, you favorite thing about Christmas!
C: This will sound cheesy, but my favorite thing about Christmas is getting together and spending time with your friends and family. Most of the time, it's the only time you get to see them. Everyone's laughing, singing, and sharing stories and it's just the greatest thing. It warms my heart, really. And those are often the moments that stay with you the most, you know? But of course, the food is a close second.
B: Of course it has to be family and food! Ahh as much as I don't want this to be over it has to. So how do you like the interview and how was the experience?
C: I had a lot of fun answering those questions! I had to think about some of them for a long time - especially the favorite song one. Hahaha but thank you so much for interviewing me!!
B: Thank you so so much for being here! Have a Merry Little Christmas dear! Have fun.
And there you guys have it. That was the interview with Cassidy! I hope you guys liked it. Check out the book if you haven't because it's AMAZING!
