Drowning
I was drowning,
My screams were just bubbles carried to the surface
And I was silenced
And so silent
Until you were my light at the end of a tunnel
You gave me your hand, I took it, and I surfaced
I was breathing and I had a voice
But that was so silent
You were my light, my everything,
But now you're my nothing
And you're just absence of who you used to be
You're a graveyard
You're a graveyard
You're a graveyard harboring the way you made me felt
You just give me phantoms,
Distant memories of the air tasting fresher by your side,
The sky having more stars,
The world harboring more opportunities,
Your eyes are phantoms of soaring planets and galaxies
Now they're just a pit of lies that you told
And if I stare too long I'll fall for every single one of them again
You're a graveyard of dead promises,
Dead plans,
Dead aspirations,
You used to be so much hope to me
But now you're nothing
And slowly, so slowly, your eyes lost their sparkle,
And slowly, so slowly your jump lost its lilt
And slowly, so slowly your smile lost its lust
And slowly, so slowly, I realized you didn't change at all
But it was me falling out of love with you
I became aware of the shards I was standing on
Shards of distant promises, and lies,
And interests, and stories,
And jealously, and shards of my lust for you
Now you're bland, moving on to your next victim until they realize
you're just horrid lies
In a lovely disguise
But I need to thank you,
Because now I know
The next time I'm drowning
Or falling
Or can't speak
Or when I'm silenced
I won't scream,
But I'll pull my own hand out
And I'll romanticize the own glitter in my eyes
Because to myself, I can never tell a very good lie
Other than loving you, of course.
