Act 1 Scene 5
Asha's Mom, her nervous energy palpable, paced the room with an anxious rhythm, her footsteps echoing in the tense atmosphere.
Mom: Scarlett, where is your sister?
Scarlett, eyes wide with fear, hesitated before responding.
Scarlett: I don't know, Mom. She's probably with Beans.
Asha's mom's face twisted into a mix of confusion and fury.
Mom: What are you talking about?
Scarlett, her voice shaky, struggled to hold back tears as she revealed the unsettling truth.
Scarlett: She's been hanging out with him for the past few weeks.
In an explosion of frustration, Asha's mom couldn't contain her anger, and she forcefully threw a vase to the ground.
Mom: Please, go.
Scarlett, with her heart pounding, rushed off the stage in a flurry of emotion, disappearing to the left.
As the echoes of the confrontation lingered, Asha's mom, wearied by the revelation, stormed off to the right.
Yet, in the aftermath, Scarlett, the weight of the situation etched on her face, stealthily sneaked back onto the stage from the left, her presence hinting at a lingering tension.
"Wearing the Mask"
(Verse 1) In a world of expectations, I walk a fragile line, Mom's perfect little girl, but the pressure's not benign, Every step I take, every move I make, Wearing this mask, for my own sake.
(Pre-Chorus) Behind the smiles, there's a storm within, A weary heart, drowning in the din, I'm tired of being what I'm supposed to be, In this perfect world, can't you set me free?
(Chorus) I'm tired of wearing the mask, pretending it's okay, Smiling through the tears, in the light of day, Mom, I'm breaking under this perfect facade, I'm just a girl, not some image of a demigod.
(Verse 2) In the mirror's reflection, I search for me, Lost in the shadows of who I used to be, Every flaw magnified, every imperfection, In this quest for perfection, where's my protection?
(Pre-Chorus) Behind the smiles, there's a storm within, A weary heart, drowning in the din, I'm tired of being what I'm supposed to be, In this perfect world, can't you set me free?
(Chorus) I'm tired of wearing the mask, pretending it's okay, Smiling through the tears, in the light of day, Mom, I'm breaking under this perfect facade, I'm just a girl, not some image of a demigod.
(Bridge) I want to breathe without this weight, To step out of the shadows, redefine my fate, I need your love, not the expectations you cast, In this journey of life, let's make it last.
(Verse 3) Mom, I'm not a porcelain doll on display, I'm human, with feelings that won't fray, Let me stumble, let me fall, In imperfection, let me find it all.
(Outro) In the echoes of truth, let the real me rise, A daughter seeking love, under these painted skies, Let's break the chains, and heal what's scarred, I'm not your perfect creation; I'm just a girl, unmarred.
Scarlett, falls to her knees
Lights out
