My Story
Truth is, I never heard of LGBTQ+ until three years ago. I heard of gay, lesbians, transgender people. I thought it was a myth, like the one about the Kraken. My friend, we'll call him Bob, as I don't have his permission to use his name in here, is gay.
The thought of hearing "No homo!" is challenging to hear. As I don't believe in homophobia. Bob is gay, I wouldn't dare kick out a friend that's part of my clique. I have been with him for the past eleven years. If he was gay then, it didn't affect us. Even before I knew he was gay, he made me happy. Then he made me realize my sexuality.
Most people live in fear of LGBTQ+ people because they like different people. I got told that I was wrong, because I am bisexual and non-binary. No one realizes the harm when they say it. Our self-esteem is like a block of stone on a building. Erosion chips it away lowering your self-esteem. Some people come and set up foundations to help you, others come to vandalize it. I don't understand the fear, but what I do understand is that LGBTQ+ people are the exact same as us with different preferences. You can't change them, but you can support them.
