1995, NEW YORK.
In the city that never sleeps, Alice Lang was doing what everyone does -- trying to make it. There had never been a time in the woman's life where she didn't see herself on a Broadway stage, performing for adoring fans. It was a dream most who came to Manhatten had, and most gave up. But Alice's mother didn't raise a quitter.

Quitting, however, was becoming more and more tempting after each wounding rejection and her part-time job at the museum grew increasingly more tiresome everyday. So, when her best friend asks her to go on a road trip, Alice accepts. A change of scenery could give the Ingénu a fresh start.

1773, NORTH CAROLINA.
He had crossed the ocean with his brother and uncle, and yet the New World seemed to reject Duncan Murray. Was he not good enough? Were the lads back home right? That he would be nothing? He watched as everyone became accustomed to the new soil beneath their feet, while it seemed to purposefully trip Duncan everywhere he went.

If it weren't for the support of his Aunt Claire, he would have set sail back to Scotland ages ago. She keeps telling him that he'll find his place, but how could Duncan truly believe that when nothing he ever did was good enough?

NOTE: Finally, an Outlander fic! I'm surprised it took me so long, I've been watching the show for 2 years lol. I found it hard to think of an idea cause I didn't want to break up any canon couples, so oc x oc it is! I'm seriously in love with Alice and Duncan, they're probably the softest and purest couple I've ever written. I hope you all enjoy this story as much as I do, thank you for reading!
