Chapter 22 - Dissimilarity

Erica hummed, she was sat on her bed and plying with her hair. She liked it longer but missed her short hair.

"Erica, are you nearly ready?" Arthur called upstairs.

"Of course I'm ready." She nodded.

"Come on down then sweetie."

"Where are we going again?" Erica asked as she skipped downstairs.

"To the doctors." Arthur nodded.

"But I'm not sick."

"It's not for that type of thing,  sweetie." Arthur assured her.

"Huh... Okay." Erica nodded slowly, still not understanding.

"Remember... That conversation we had with that nice doctor?"

"Ooh, Sherie! The one with the pink hair." Erica smiled.

"Yeah, she's nice... Remember she was talking to you and you did some tests... All that?"

"Uh huh?"

"Well, she has some theories."

"About me?" Erica asked.

"About You. And it's nothing bad."

"Then let's go." She smiled.

Molly smiled softly before they left.

"So the neurologists ran the tests and the other things we needed to do to confirm or deny our theories." Sherrie began.

"I see." Arthur nodded.

Erica was sat in the corner, building with the lego that Sherrie had in her office.

"They diagnosed her... Erica has autism." Sherrie looked over at Erica.

"Autism?" Arthur looked over at her too.

"Yes... It's common in girls but she has been masking it for a while. But with everything that we've went over... It's confirmed."

Erica turned to look at the adults watching her. Why did they look so serious?

"Sweetie, can you come here?" Arthur patted the seat beside him.

"Okay." She smiled and walked over to him with her lego creation.

"That's cute, what did you make sweetheart?" Molly smiled.

"A cat." Erica held it up.

"It's very creative."

Erica smiled before looking over at Sherie,"What are we talking about?"

"You... Have you heard of Autism before?" Sherie turned to her.

"Hm... No." Erica shook her head.

"It's not bad. It just means you see life a little different than normal people." She assured her.

"Oh... Okay." Erica smiled again.

"How do you feel?"

"A bit confused but I think I'm okay." Erica nodded slowly.

"It's like... You'll find stuff more difficult, but you'll get help for it. Don't worry."

"Getting help sounds nice."

"Do you have friends?"

"Mhm."

"Big group or a small group?"

"Hm, well I have a small group." Erica told her,"But I have some friends outside of that."

"I'm glad. If you want, you can let them know. It's up to you." Sherie hummed.

"I'll... Think about it." Erica nodded slowly.

"Take your time."

"I will."

"You can take the lego home with you if you'd like." She smiled.

"Thank you!" Erica hopped off her chair.

"Thank you Sherie... Truly." Arthur nodded to her.

"I'm glad I was able to help you and Erica." Sherie smiled.

The parents nodded and left with Erica, "Do you want ice cream?"

"Yes please!' Erica looked up at them.

"I'll pay." Arthur nodded.

"Finally." Percy sighed as the three came back.

"Hi Percy." Erica smiled at him.

"Hi Erica." Percy waved.

"Did you miss me?" She asked,"You're not usually down here waiting."

"I had to get something to eat, I was hungry." Percy shrugged.

"Well, we're back now."

"And your sister has news.." Molly nudged her before walking off.

"Oh, yeah." Erica looked up at him,"Sherie told me that I have autism."

"Autism?" Percy blinked.

"Mhm." She hummed.

"Yeah... Are you sure they haven't got it confused? You're just weird sometimes, that's all."

"You don't need to act like its such a bad thing." Erica shuffled on her feet.

"It's not. I'm just saying... I just don't think you have it. Girls don't get it."

"Sherie told me it was common for girls to get it, I just mask it."

"Mask?"

"Mhm." Erica nodded before starting to explain,"It's where I sort of cover up traits associated with being autistic and they end up getting diagnosed as something else."

"I think you just have a younger mentality." Percy grabbed a drink.

"Perce, why don't you believe me?" Erica asked him.

"I do it's just- You're too young right now, Erica." Percy waved her off.

"Too young- Percy, I'm fourteen."

"It's because you're hanging around with those friends. They're getting in your head."

Erica furrowed her brow, it wasn't her friend's fault she was like this. It was nobody's fault.

"That's not how it works." Erica crossed her arms.

"I don't have time for this Erica." Percy sighed and left.

"Whatever." Erica looked down, starting to walk to her room.

"Erica!" Charlie called from his room.

"Charlie?' Erica spun around.

"I'm home, come see me."

Erica hurried into his room excitedly, she missed him and she needed a hug. She hugged him as soon as she saw him.

Charlie laughed and hugged her,"I brought you something back."

"A present?" Erica gasped.

"A present." Charlie grabbed the box and handed her it.

"Thank you." Erica smiled and opened it.

Inside was a small dragon ornament, along with a picture of a mother and baby dragon.

"Woah... Thank you, Charlie." Erica carefully sat the ornament down before hugging Charlie again.

Charlie hummed and ruffled her hair,"What happened to the short?"

"I needed a change... But I think i liked it short better." Erica told him.

"I liked the short. But you suit the long too."

Erica nodded slowly, still holding onto him.

"What was Percy blabbing about?"

Erica sighed,"The doctor told me I have autism but he doesn't believe me."

"Autism? Y'know... Now that I think about it, I see it."

"You... Don't think its a bad thing, right?" Erica asked him slowly.

"Of course not. Being different is cool."

Erica smiled, leaning against him.

"We needed another cool one in the family, I'm the only one so far." Charlie chuckled.

"I'm cool?" Erica smiled softly.

"So cool. You're the coolest." Charlie looked down at her,"It goes... Me, you, the twins... Then everyone else."

Erica grinned as she looked up at Charlie, she was glad she had someone like him.

"Now, you wanna see all the dragons I drew?"

"Yes please!"

Charlie chuckled and went into his bag.

"Draco, Parker! We're leaving!" Lucius yelled up to them.

"Leaving where?" Parker looked at Draco in confusion as she lay on his bed.

Draco fixed his hair,"Dad said he wanted to take us the Ministry, God knows why."

"I'm always the last to know." Parker sat up,"Come here."

Draco sighed and scooted closer to Parker.

Parker held his head and fixed his hair,"You never know how to style this hair, and this suit isn't a good look."

"Father said it is compulsory."

"And he also said it's compulsory for me to wear this black dress like mother... Am I? No." Parker gave a smile and tapped his cheek.

"Don't test him, he won't be happy." Draco sighed.

"I don't care, Dray." Parker fixed her green skirt in the mirror,"I've had enough of him."

"Parker, you know how he gets? Well, he's been getting worse, even with me." Draco stood up, shaking his head.

"Maybe we should kill him.." Parker sighed, l"I'm joking, obviously."

"He'd kill us first." Draco sighed,"Come on."

Parker hummed and walked out the room and down the stairs.

Lucius spotted her and looked her up and down,"Change."

"All my other clothes are in the washing. Can we go?" Parker sighed.

"No, find something more suitable."

"This isn't suitable enough for you?" She scoffed,"It's mostly black, it covers me. What more do you want?"

"It's too short." Lucius pointed,"Cover the knees in public, that's the rule."

"You're worse than Snape." Parker muttered and ran up the stairs.

Lucius shook his head, she'd get over it.

Finally, after a while, they managed to arrive at the Ministry, someone already there to take the Malfoy's coats.

"I'll take them, sir."

Lucius nodded to the kids as he removed his coat. Parker and Draco took off their coats, giving them to the man.

The man bowed to them and walked off as Lucius continued on.

"So why are we here?" Parker spoke up.

"I have business." Lucius spoke swiftly.

"Business." Parker muttered to Draco as they walked to the lift.

Lucius tutted as he waited for rth lift to come down.

Parker looked around,"Father... May I go to the restroom?"

"I suppose, but you'll have to catch up." Lucius groaned.

"Of course." Parker walked off, going straight to the Magical Law Enforcement Department. She couldn't deal with this anymore.

As soon as she entered, a few officers turned to her.

Parker gulped, she was nervous,"I-I need to report an incident."

"Come right this way, Miss Malfoy." An officer lead her into an office.

"..Fuck." Parker cursed and hugged herself as she walked to the office.

"Well then, what is it you need to report?" The officer took out a pen and paper.

"A... Domestic. Multiple- Actually."

"Domestic? Between who? Could you explain further?" He began noting things down.

"By... My father. It was just little things at first but over the years it's gotten worse to the point he's gotten physical."

"Physical?"

"Yes." Parker nodded slowly as she looked around the room, she didn't like the enclosed space.

The officer sighed and sat down his pen and paper,"I'm sorry but unfortunately, I cannot help you."

"You can't help me?" Parker blinked.

"Your father- Even if we could do things, he's paying off nearly every officer in this building.' The officer shook his head.

"It doesn't matter, you're meant to be police!" Parker shot up,"So- Me and my brother are supposed to just let it happen?"

"I can't help you." He repeated.

Parker stared in shock for a minute before she pushed his desk, knocking a few things off it before she quickly turned around and ran off.

But greeting her at the main entrance to the building was none other than her father. Parker looked up at him, stopping in her tracks.

"Figured you'd be here." Lucius grabbed her wrist,"We're leaving."

"Get off- Help!" Parker screamed.

The officers turned away, they were being paid off. One of them probably alerted Lucius to her location.

"Assholes!" Parker cursed and kicked her father.

"You dare try and embarrass me? There's no need for this childish outburst." Lucius spat.

"I want away from you, what dont you understand in that tiny brain of yours?" Parker pointed.

"I see, I see... You want a punishment when you get home." Lucius kept walking.

Parker looked at him,"Father, please-"

"No, it's fine. I know you want it so badly."

"I don't." Parker shook her head.

"I know you do." He hummed,"Let's go."

Parker grabbed her jacket off the coat rack and put it on. Lucius watched her carefully as Draco stood nearby.
Parker looked at Draco, shaking her head as she walked past them.

*********************************

Erica had gotten back to her room after seeing Charlie, only to get a call through the landline.

"Hm..?" Erica hummed and picked it up.

"Hi Er.." Parker sighed.

"Parker? Are you okay?" Erica asked.

"Yeah- I just wanna talk. How are you? How was the doctors?"

"Oh- Yeah, it was okay." Erica nodded,"But you sound sad."

"Just.. My father."

Erica gasped,"What did that bastard do?"

"I tried to... Go to the police about him. But they couldn't do anything because he pays their salaries."

"Did he... Find out?"

Parker nodded slowly as she looked in the mirror,"Someone must've tipped him off."

"I'll fight him." Erica pointed.

"You can't fight him." Parker sighed.

"I will."

"If we could fight him, I would."

"I'd be there."

"I miss you, Erica." Parker sighed.

"Aw, I miss you too." Erica nodded,"But when I see you. I have to tell you something."

"Yeah? You're not dying, right?"

"Of course not, Sherie isn't that kind of doctor." Erica assured her.

"Thank god." Parker let out a sigh of relief.

"It's something different but... It's a bit hard to explain."

"That's okay, as long as you're not dying. I like you too much."

"Dont worry, I won't die anytime soon." Erica hummed.

"Good." Parker smiled,"Love you, Er."

"Love you too, Parker!"

"I'm gonna go, but I'll see you at the cup, yeah?"

"Yeah." Erica nodded happily.

"See ya." Parker hummed and hung up.

"Bye!" Erica put the phone down.
