Chapter 2 - Friendships Forming

With that, all the first years followed McGonagall through the large oak door to the Great hall.

There were four long tables filled with older students and even candles floating in the air. All the first years were in awe when they saw the ceiling above them.

"It's not real, the ceiling. It's just bewitched to look like the night sky. I read about it in Hogwarts: A History." Hermione told another girl.

"Now, will you all wait here for a moment? Professor Dumbledore has a few words to say." Professor McGonagall stopped them.

"I have a few start of term notices I wish to announce. For the first years, please note that the dark forest is strictly forbidden to all students. Also, our care taker, Mr. Filch." Dumbledore gestured to him,"Has asked me to remind you that the 3rd floor corridor on the right hand side is out of bounds to everyone who does not wish to die a most painful death. Thank you."

"Did... Did I hear him correctly?" Erica whispered to Ron.

"You heard right." Ron whispered.

That's when Erica felt a small tap on her shoulder.

She jumped and spun around,"Oh! It's you!"

"Hi." Parker waved.

"Look, you can meet my brother now!" Erica pointed excitedly.

"I'm Parker." Parker smiled and held her hand out.

"... Yeah, I'm Ron." Ron shook her hand slowly, he wasn't trusting a Malfoy.

"Now we can all be friends." Erica smiled.

"I'd like that." Parker hummed.

"When I call your name, you will come forth, I shall place the sorting hat on your head and you will be sorted into your houses. Hermione Granger?" McGonagall announced.

"Oh- Okay, relax." Hermione whispered as she walked forward.

"Mental that one, I'm telling you." Ron muttered.

"Be nice." Erica nudged him.

Ron rolled his eyes and crossed his arms.

"Hm, let's see... Well, better be... Gryffindor!"

All of the students clapped and cheered as Hermione went to the table.

"Ahem... Draco Malfoy!" McGonagall announced.

Draco smirked as he strutted up to the sorting hat. The hat had barely touched his head when it uttered the word, "Slytherin!"

"There isn't a witch or wizard who went bad who wasn't in Slytherin." Ron muttered to Harry.

"That's bullshit." Erica masked her comment with a cough.

Parker nudged Erica with a small smile.

"Susan Bones." McGonagall read the next name on the list.

Another ginger girl walked up to the hat and Erica turned to Parker,"She's not related to me, before you ask."

"Nah, she doesn't have the Weasley look." Parker shrugged.

"Hufflepuff!"

"Ronald Weasley." McGonagall looked towards the ginger boy.

Ron took in a deep breath before he stepped in front of the hat.

"Ha! Another Weasley. I know just what to do with you... Gryffindor!!" The hat shouted.

The other students clapped for him as he smiled and joined his brothers at the table.

"Harry Potter?"

The room went silent.

"Go on, Harry." Erica gently nudged him forward.

Harry blinked before he slowly walked and sat down.

"Hm, difficult... Very difficult." The sorting hat hummed.

Harry closed his eyed and shook his head,"Not Slytherin, not Slytherin."

"Not Slytherin, eh? But I thought you'd make a great Slytherin. After all, Slytherin will help you on your way to greatness, no doubt!"

"Anything but Slytherin." Harry sighed.

"Well if you're sure..." The sorting hat grumbled,"Better be... Gryffindor!"

Everyone cheered for Harry, louder than anyone else that had been for a student.

"Erica Weasley!" McGonagall looked around.

Erica bit her lip and stepped up to the hat.

"You'll do great." Parker mouthed.

Erica smiled as the hat was placed on her head.

"Another one of you- Oh... Oh, that's new." The sorting hat paused,"I know exactly where to put you, Weasley... Hufflepuff!"

Everyone cheered although, her brothers were at the Gryffindor table left confused. Erica nodded slowly as she made her way to the Hufflepuff table. She wasn't really expecting this outcome.

"Parker Malfoy." McGonagall spoke and the girl walked forward and sat down on the chair.

"Oh..There's something different here... Hm, but I know just where to put you. Slytherin!" The hat shouted.

The remaining students clapped again, the Slytherin table was especially happy.

"What's the smirk for?" Parker looked at Draco as she sat down.

"Can you believe it?" Draco looked over at Erica,"Look at her, sat by herself."

Parker looked over at her new friend,"I see her."

"I knew when I saw her she'd end up in Hufflepuff, with all the other weaklings." Draco shrugged.

Parker turned to Draco and crossed her arms. She had lasted like that until Dumbledore finished his speech. Immediately after he did, Parker raised from her seat.

"Where are you going?" Draco questioned.

"To my friend." Parker grabbed some food and snuck over to the Hufflepuff table.

"Oi!" Draco called after her but his friend stopped him.

"Leave her mate. If she wants to be friends with someone like that then that's her fault." Goyle shrugged.

"Our father will hear about this." Draco muttered.

"Boo." Parker sat beside Erica.

Erica squeaked and jumped,"Oh- Oh... It's just you, Parker."

"Yeah... I kinda just appear. Its a habit." Parker smiled.

"Just warn me next time you decide to appear."

"Of course." Parker nodded and handed her a small basket of cookies.

Erica gasped,"Thank you!"

"Does this make up for scaring you?"

"This more than makes up for it." Erica nodded eagerly.

Parker laughed and leaned against the table,"Find it weird being the only Hufflepuff in the family?"

"I'm over it now." Erica shrugged,"I do wish could sit with my brothers though, these girls kinda scare me."

"Then... Why don't we?" Parker smirked.

"What do you-" Erica stopped herself,"Let's do it!"

Parker clapped her hands and took Erica's arm as they snuck over. The pair made their way to the Gryffindor table and sat by Harry and Ron.

"I hope you didn't miss me too much." Erica hummed.

"When did you get here?" Ron asked with his mouth full.

"Just now." Erica shrugged

"Is he always like this?" Hermione sighed.

"Pretty much." Erica nodded.

Hermione rolled her eyes and went back to eating. That's when Erica's eyes were covered from behind.

"Who's touching me?" Erica grabbed the hands.

"Someone who is deeply offended you haven't came and seen yet." An older, but very familiar voice.

"Percy?"

Percy removed his hands from her face and hummed.

"You happy now?" Erica asked him.

"I'm offended you haven't seen me yet." Percy spoke.

"I just sat down."

"I'm the favourite."

"That is very true." Erica agreed.

"How are you finding Hogwarts so far?"

"It's really cool." Erica smiled.

"Shame you're not in Gryffindor." Percy sighed.

"You'll still look after me, right?"

"Of course will." Percy gave a smile,"You're my sister."

"I love you Percy."

"I guess I love you too." Percy hummed

"Say, Percy, who's that teacher talking to Professor Quirrell?" Harry asked.

Percy turned and looked,"Oh, that's Professor Snape."

"What's he teach?" Parker asked.

"Potions." Percy answered,"But everyone knows he wants to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts, he's been after Quirrels' job for years."

That's when a head appeared on the table, a ghost flying out the table. Ron jumped and Erica just sat looking at the ghost.

"Hello! How are you? Welcome to Gryffindor." The ghost laughed at Ron.

"Hello, Sir Nickolas." Percy smiled, Did you have a nice summer?"

"Dismal. Once again, my request to join the headless hunt has been denied." Nick sighed.

"Hang on, I know you. You're Nearly Headless Nick!" Ron pointed.

"Nearly headless? How can you be nearly headless?" Hermione raised a brow.

"Like this." Nick pulled his head to the side, revealing how it was hanging on my barely a thread.

"Oh Merlin." Parker covered her and Erica's eyes.

"That's so... Cool!" Erica gasped.

"Cool?" Ron shook his head.

"Yeah, have you seen his neck?" Erica asked before clapping,"You have impressed me, Sir."

"Thank you, kind lady." Nick bowed and flew off.

"You better head back to your table, prefects are rounding up their 1st years." Percy nodded.

"Aw." Erica sighed as she stood up, I'll see you guys later."

"Yeah, bye." Parker waved with a smile.

*********************************

"Oi, Parker." Draco called to her from the chair he was sat on.

"What?" Parker asked as she walked into the common room.

"I've got someone for you to meet, since you already know Crabbe and Goyle." Draco told her.

"I don't want to meet any more of your nasty friends."

"He's not nasty." Draco rolled his eyes.

"You, Crabbe and Goyle kinda are." Parker shrugged.

"Do you want to meet him or not? Because he wants to meet you."

Parker rolled her eyes and looked at him,"Fine."

"Right then." Draco turned around,"This is Blaise."

"Hi." Parker waved with a small smile.

"Hey." Blaise waved as he walked over.

"I'm.. Parker." Parker blinked.

"And I'm Blaise." He smiled,"Wait, you already knew that.."

Parker shook her head with a laugh,"It's alright."

Blaise chuckled,"It's cool to actually meet you, Draco's told me a lot."

"What have you said about me?" Parker turned to Draco.

"Only good things." Draco rolled his eyes,"Mostly."

"Mostly?" Parker whispered.

"I had to tell him about your 'antics" Draco shrugged.

"Antics." Parker scoffed.

"You climbed out of your window in the middle of the night." Draco pointed.

"Mhm?"

"And we had to search all night for you."

"I was safe. I was with family." Parker hummed.

"In the middle of nowhere." Draco sighed,"Auntie Andromeda lives so far away."

"Oh well." Parker shrugged and turned to Blaise,"You'd go too if you didn't really see your aunt?"

"I mean, yeah, I suppose so-"

"Oi, don't get him involved in this!" Draco pointed.

"He's my friend now!"

"Good, you need those!"

Parker stopped and held up her middle finger,"Night Blaise."

She then stormed up to her dorm.

"She's just in a mood at the mo ment, she's not normally like this." Draco assured his friend.

"Ah." Blaise nodded,"She seems... Interesting."

"She is."

"Hopefully she's feeling better tomorrow."

"I'm sure she will." Draco shook his head.

"Well, we better be off to bed." He sighed.

"Right you are, Blaise." Draco got up.

Blaise was first to leave, head ing to their room as he thought about the girl he just met. Then Draco followed, eyeing Blaise suspiciously as they walked to their dorm.

"Forget it." Neville muttered and leaned against the wall.

He had been locked out of the Gryffindor common rooms for hours now. He couldn't remember the password so no one would let him in.

Lucky for him, Erica had been out exploring and just so happened to have inside Gryffindor information thanks to Percy.

"Need some help?"

Neville jumped and turned,"Oh I don't- Yes."

Erica smiled and strolled over to the portrait, clearing her throat,"Caput draconis."

The door swiftly opened and Neville gasped.

"How did you- But you're not a Gryffindor!"

"My brother is a Gryffindor prefect." Erica told him.

Neville tilted his head,"You're a Weasley."

"I am indeed, my name's Erica." She smiled at him, "Who are you?"

"Longbottom- Neville-" Neville sighed,"Neville Longbottom."

Erica giggled,"You're funny, I like you. We're now officially friends."

"We... Are?" Neville smiled a little.

"Of course we are!"

Neville hummed,"You're my first proper friend here."

"I'm sure you'll have more friends soon." Erica assured him as she hopped into the portrait hole.

"Wh- You can't go in here." Neville raised a brow.

"Why not?"

"You aren't- Well, you aren't a Gryffindor. Isn't that against the rules?"

"Screw the rules." Erica shook her head and continued.

Neville looked around for a second before he followed.

"See? Everything's fine." Erica assured them as they entered the common room.

"What if you get detention?"

"Eh, my older brothers get those all the time and they're okay. Erica shrugged.

"But you're a first year." Neville nodded.

"So?"

"It's different for us."

"But why?"

"Because... Well, I don't know." Neville sighed.

"Therefore I'm right, now go to bed."

"What will you do?"

"I might go back to my dorm." Erica hummed.

"Might?"

"I haven't decided yet." She shrugged.

"Oh... Right. Please don't get into trouble." Neville sighed.

"I'll try not to." Erica assured him.

Neville hesitated before he went up to his room. Erica sighed as she watched him go before turning to leave herself.

"Erica." A familiar voice spoke.

"Yes?" She slowly turned around.

"What are you doing here?" Percy sighed.

"I was just helping my new friend, I'll be going now." Erica turned back around.

"You're not allowed in here." Percy walked over to her.

"Why not?"

"You're a Hufflepuff."

"But I'm your sister."

"Erica." Percy sighed.

"Fine, I'll leave."

"Come on then." Percy nudged her.

"I'm going." Erica crossed her arms and hopped into the portrait hole.

"I'll see you tomorrow Erica." Percy waved.

"Night, Perce." Erica waved before heading out.

Percy closed the door and leaned against it.

"That girl." He sighed and walked back to his room.

"Now, where to go..?" Erica looked around.

*********************************

"Erica!" Parker shouted on her as she caught her eye.

"Parker?" She turned around.

"Hi." Parker waved and ran up to her.

"Sleep well?" Erica asked her.

"Yes... And no." Parker shrugged.

"Aw, how come?" She raised a brow.

"My roommate." Parker sighed.

"Oh, how bad is she?" Erica asked slowly.

"Have you ever heard of Pansy Parkinson?"

"No." Erica shook her head.

"She's really annoying. And wouldn't stop talking to me about my brother all night."

"I'm glad nobody cares about my family in my dorm." Erica sighed.

"I care." Parker smiled.

"I didn't mean it like that, I just mean- Y'know-" Erica shrugged.

"I know." She sighed,"What class are you at first?"

"Uh..." Erica took out her schedule,"Transfiguration."

Parker looked down at her's and pointed,"Then potions?"

"Mhm!"

"I think we have the same lessons!

"That's great!" Erica smiled,"Let's go!"

Parker hummed and walked,"How about you? How did you sleep?"

"Fine, I guess. I made a new friend, too!"

"Who?" Parker turned.

"His name is Neville."

"Neville... Longbottom?"

"Yeah, him!" Erica nodded.

"He seems nice. He's really shy though." Parker nodded.

"He is, he told me I was his first friend here." Erica told her.

"Aw." Parker smiled.

"He seems so sweet." Erica hummed.

"Draco introduced me to one of his friends. He actually seems nice." Parker hummed.

"Oh, what's his name?" Erica asked.

"Blaise." Parker shrugged.

"Ooh, that's a really pretty name." She hummed.

"He's better than Crabbe and Goyle." Parker nodded.

"And that's always a start."

"Aha! Class." Parker opened the door.

"Yes!" Erica smiled as they walked in.

They saw a cat sitting at the door when they entered.

"Aw, you're such a pretty kitty."

"Is it just me or... Does this cat have human eyes?" Parker bent down.

"You tell me." Erica shrugged.

"Kitty kitty." Parker stroked the fur.

"As I said before, she's a very pretty kitty."

Parker tilted her head before she walked into the class.

"McGonagall isn't here." She sat down.

"Yeah." Erica sat beside her,"Maybe she's running late."

"Possibly." Parker shrugged as Ron and Harry ran in,"They're also late.

"Heh, we got here before them." Erica smirked.

"Whew, we made it. Can you imagine the look on McGonagall's face if we were late?" Ron scoffed.

That's when the cat from before padded over to them and... Transformed into Professor McGonagall!

"That... Was bloody brilliant." Ron smiled.

"Thank you for that assess ment, Mr Weasley. Perhaps if I were to transfigure yourself or Mr Potter into a pocket watch, perhaps one of you might make it on time." McGonagall looked down at them over her glasses.

"We got lost." Harry sighed.

"Then perhaps a map. McGonagall shook her head,"I trust you don't need one to find your seats."

Harry and Ron moved and sat down at their seats.

"She was the cat?" Parker gasped.

"So cool." Erica whispered.

"So creepy." Parker shuddered.

Erica was immediately invested in what McGonagall was doing. She was incredible!

After a while of Transfiguration, the next class the girls, along with the Gryffindor trio had was potions.

Erica didn't like the dungeons much. They were dark and cold and as she sat down beside Parker, she noticed a spider on the desk.

"My common room isn't far from here." Parker shrugged, she didn't notice the spider.

"Parker, there's a spider right by your hand." Erica pointed out.

Parker looked at Erica, turning to the spider before she jumped,"Oh my-"

"Told you."

"What do I do?!" Parker panicked.

Erica sighed,"Here, let me."

Parker stood back.

Erica gently scooped up the spider in her hands,"Now... Where is the nearest window?"

Parker pointed to the open window nearby.

"Ah, thanks." Erica wandered over and sat the spider on the window sill.

"Miss Weasley, to your seat... Please." Snape spoke from behind her as he walked in.

Erica jumped as she saw their professor but quickly did as he instructed.

"Oops." Parker whispered to Erica.

"He's scary" Erica whispered back.

"I know." Parker nodded.

"There will be no foolish wand waving or silly incantations in this class. As such, I don't expect many of you to appreciate the subtle science and exact art that is potion making. However, for those select few..." Snape turned his head to glance at Draco,"... Who possess the predisposition, I can teach you how to bewitch the mind and ensnare the senses. I can tell you how to bottle fame, brew glory and even put a stopper... In death."

That's when something caught Snape's eye.

"Then again, maybe some of you have come to Hogwarts in possession of abilities so formidable that you feel confidant enough to not... Pay... Attention." Snape turned his attention to Harry.

Hermione nudged Harry who looked up at Snape from the parchment he was taking notes on.

"Mr. Potter. Our... New... Celebrity. Tell me, what would get if I added powdered root of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood?"

Hermione's hand shot up but Harry looked around before shrugging.

"You don't know? Well, let's try again. Where, Mr. Potter, would you look if I asked you to find me a bezoar?" Snape raised a brow.

"I don't know, sir." Harry shook his head, Hermione put her hand up again.

"And what is the difference between monkshood and wolfsbane?" Snape crossed his arms.

"I don't know, sir."

"Pity. Clearly, fame isn't everything... Is it, Mr Potter?" Snape hummed.

"Clearly Hermione knows. Since it's a pity not to ask her." Erica covered up her comment with a cough.

Everyone gave a laugh but Snape quickly shot them all down.

"Silence. Put your hand down, you silly girl." He scoffed, sitting in front of Harry,"For your information, Potter... Asphodel and wormwood make a sleeping potion so powerful, it is known as the Draught of Living Death. A bezoar is a stone taken from the stomach of a goat and it will save you from most poisons. As for monkshood and wolfsbane, they are the same plant, which also goes by the name of aconite... Well? Why isn't anyone writing this down?"

At his order, everyone began quickly writing down what he had told them.

"And Gryffindors, note that five points will be taken from your house... For your classmate's cheek." Snape sat back down at his seat.

"And I got away with that? Erica gets ten points." Erica whispered to Parker.

"He's practically deaf." Parker chuckled quietly.

"Which is good for us."

Parker nudged her and looked at Snape who was looking over their way. Erica made eye contact with Snape who shared eye contact for a second before he looked away.

"Beat him at eye contact too, five more points." Erica muttered.

"You're really winning here." Parker nodded.

"I'm great."

"You really are, I've never seen anyone win." Parker joked.

"Well, it's gonna happen a lot more." Erica assured her.

After a while, Snape had gotten everyone to partner up with the person beside them and begin brewing some potions.

"What do we do now?" Erica asked quietly, scanning her textbook.

"Hand me that." Parker pointed.

Erica looked at whatever Parker wanted, she had no clue what it was, and passed it to her.

"Thank you." Parker hummed and put it in, the potion finally coming together.

"Is it good?" Erica asked.

"I believe so, it hasn't exploded... Yet."

"Don't say that." Erica looked at the potion,"Please don't explode!"

"Enough with the shouting." Snape warned them.

"I'm sorry, sir." Erica quickly apologized.

"Sorry Professor." Parker looked at him.

"Don't let it happen again. Snape warned them.

"Of course." Parker shrugged.

That's when a cloud of acid green smoke rose and the room was filled with the sound of hissing.

"That's not ours, is it?" Parker panicked.

"Uh... No, ours is good it's... Neville's." Erica sighed.

"Neville, the boy you like?" Parker asked.

"Mhm, that looks like it hurts." Erica bit her lip,"He's covered in it."

"Poor guy." Parker sighed.

"I'll check on him after class."

"Idiot boy!" Snape cursed and cleaned the mess up instantly with his wand,"I suppose you added the porcupine quills before taking the cauldron off the fire?"

Neville nodded slowly. whimpering.

Snape sighed and turned to Seamus,"Take him to the hospital wing."

Seamus nodded and lead Neville out of the classroom.

"Potter. Why didn't you tell him not to add quills? Did you think it would make you look better? Well... That is another point you've lost for Gryffindor."

Harry opened his mouth as if to argue back but he was stopped

Parker kicked his leg once Snape had turned,"Don't. It's not worth your time. Snape is a nasty man. He can do worse than taking away points."

Harry sighed, staying quiet as Snape headed back to his desk.

"Sometimes you just need to take what he says, make sure it doesn't bother you." Parker shrugged.

Harry nodded slowly as Erica turned to Parker.

"I feel kinda bad now, half the points they just lost were my fault." Erica sighed.

"They'll get them back probably." Parker shrugged.

"It's Harry and Ron." Erica gave her a look.

"Gryffindor is the favourite though. Only in here they're not!

"I'm surprised I'm getting out unscathed."

"Yeah, me too." Parker hummed.

An hour or so later, the five of them walked out of the dungeons.

"Harry, can come to Hagrids with you?" Ron asked him.

"And me?" Erica added.

Harry nodded and shrugged,"Yeah, why not?"

"Could I come too?" Parker smiled.

"Uh, yeah, maybe not." Ron shook his head.

Parker looked at Ron,"What?"

"I just, don't think we're at that stage of friendship yet." Ron told her.

"But am with Erica?"

"But you're not with Harry and I."

"Right, of course." Parker nodded.

"I'll talk to you later, okay?" Erica turned to her.

Parker nodded again and turned, walking off, crossing her arms.

Erica sighed,"Was that really necessary?"

"What? We can't trust her yet." Ron shrugged.

"I do."

"Well we don't. Now are you coming or not?"

"Fine... I'm coming."

Ron nodded and walked with Harry and his sister.
