Chapter 10 - Contrast
"Percy, open the door.' Erica knocked on it.
"I'm busy." Percy sighed.
"But mum said lunch is ready."
Percy looked up from his book,"What did she make?"
"I'm not telling you if you don't come out."
"I want to know before I come out." He hummed.
No." Erica crossed her arms.
Percy groaned from inside as he walked up and opened his door.
"Thank you for deciding to show yourself." Erica smiled at him.
"What did mum make?" He hummed.
"Pancakes!"
"For lunch?" Percy chuckled as he ruffled his sister's hair while he walked past.
"Obviously." Erica nodded, poking her head into Percy's room.
"Excuse me." Percy nudged her.
"Just looking." Erica quickly turned around.
"Mhm. Come on, you want to get those pancakes before your brothers and Ginny eat them all." Percy took her hand.
"Yeah, or before the twins start throwing them."
"Exactly. Move it." He walked downstairs.
"I'm moving." Erica hurried down the steps.
"Look who finally arrived." Fred laughed.
"He wouldn't come put." Erica sighed and sat down.
"Well I'm here now." Percy sat down.
"Took you long enough." George rolled his eyes.
"Mum, tell them to stop bothering me." He sighed.
"Stop bothering your older brother." Molly pointed.
"Whatever mum." Fred put his feet on the table.
"And feet off the table." Molly put her hands on her hips.
"Oh mum!' George copied his brother.
"Boys.' She warned
"Yes mum?" Fred smiled.
"Behave yourself, I don't want to have to send you to your room in the holidays. " Molly sighed.
"Oh mum!" George laughed.
"You heard me."
"Alright mum." Fred put his feet down.
"That's better." She smiled.
"Oh- I forgot my book upstairs-" Percy went to get up.
"I'll get it!" Erica quickly got up.
"You don't even know-"
"Eat lunch, bye." Erica was already halfway up the stairs.
"Oh- Okay." Percy nodded slowly.
Erica ran upstairs and into Percy's room, time to snoop. Why? Super spies don't ask questions.
God, there was nothing interesting in here. Only books laying everywhere and clothes stuffed in a corner.
"Aw, I thought he'd have some interesting stuff to spy on." Erica sighed as she reached for the book, noticing a letter.
Erica took a closer look and it was from... Oliver! Oliver Wood.
"I didn't know they were friends." Erica whispered as she picked it up and read.
Although what Erica read... It wasn't what friends would exactly write to each other. It was more... Personal. Erica's cheeks went warm and she set the letter down. She didn't know what half of that meant but she felt like she should not have read that.
She needed to ask about them, this was all too confusing. Erica quickly grabbed the book and walked out.
"Erica?" Ron groaned.
"What?" She sighed.
"The twins are stealing the pancakes, hurry up!"
"I am hurrying up." Erica walked over and handed Percy the book.
"Erica why are you red in the face?" Percy raised a brow,"My room is on the second floor."
"Oh, no reason." Erica shrugged and sat down.
"Did you run?"
"Yeah." Erica sighed.
"Hm." Percy nodded slowly and crossed his arms.
Erica managed to grab a pancake and nibbled it, occasionally looking up at Percy.
"Well, I'm off back to my room. Thanks mum." Percy hummed.
"Oh, Percy, can we talk?" Erica asked him quickly.
"Depends... What about?"
"Your book."
"Oh, right." Percy nodded.
"Come on." Erica quickly walked off.
Percy raised a brow before he walked after her.
Erica soon stopped once they were somewhere private and looked up at him,"I... Uh, I saw your letters."
Percy blinked,"Letters? W-What letters?"
"Between you and Oliver."
"You're imagining it."
"I know what I saw." Erica poked him.
"And what did you see, hm?"
"Well, I don't know what most of it meant but it sounded... Like more than friends thingies.' Erica fiddled with her hands.
"We... We- We are best friends." He nodded.
"Are you sure?"
"Very sure."
"Well I don't know what best friends your age do but I don't think it's that.' Erica quickly shook her head.
"What did you read- What letter?" Percy ran upstairs.
"The one by your book!" She followed him.
"When was it dated by!?"
"I didn't look!"
"Oh Merlin, oh no." He cursed and ran to his room.
Erica waited by the door for him, looking around.
"Oh no!" Percy shouted.
"What?"
"You should not have read that!'
"You left it in the open."
"I asked you to get me my book, not snoop."
"But it was right by the book."
"Please never read my letters."
"Too late.' She mumbled.
"Percy!" Arthur shouted.
"Yes, father?" He called back.
"Your friend is here to see you!"
"I'll be down soon."
"His name is Olivander- Oliver, sorry."
"I need to speak with him.' Erica walked past him.
"No! No!" Percy shook his head.
"Yes!"
"Oliver, run now while you still can!" Percy ran downstairs.
"Ollie!" Erica smiled up at him.
"Erica, hi." Oliver smiled,"Can I come in?"
"Of course you can." She let him inside,"Can we talk?"
"Of course, what about?"
"I'll tell you in a bit." Erica took his hand and waddled over to a quiet corner.
"Oh- Okay." Oliver nodded slowly as he followed her.
Erica cleared her throat,"Now, for dating my brother, there is a very strict set of rules."
"Wh- Dating-" He laughed, "Who's dating? I'm not dating."
"I've read a letter Oliver, it's pretty obvious." She pointed.
"I'm not gay." He coughed.
"I find that very hard to believe.
"... What letter have you read?"
"Uh... Well, I don't think I'm allowed to repeat what I read." Erica shook her head.
"Oh no- Was it bad?"
"No, just..." Erica trailed off,"I don't think friends fo that with each other."
"Okay... Tell me these rules." Oliver nodded slowly.
"Okay, one." Erica lowered her voice,"You hurt him, I kill you."
"You are twelve, how are you so scary?"
"I get it from mum." She smiled sweetly.
"Okay. I would never hurt Perce." He assured her.
"Good, rule number two!" Erica pointed,"No doing naughty things until you're both of age and consenting."
"Naughty things- Of course not." He shook his head.
"You better!"
"I promise." Oliver out his hand on his heart.
"Good." Erica nodded,"And rule number three! Uh... What was rule number three..?"
"Erica have you made these up on the spot?"
"E-eh, no!"
"You have so." He laughed.
Erica crossed her arms,"Didn't."
"Then what's rule number three?"
"That... You... Learn my magical code."
"A magical code?" Oliver raised a brow.
"Mhm, the twins helped me make it so we can share our secrets without getting caught!" Erica nodded.
"And I'm allowed to know this?"
"Yes."
"Okay, I'm willing to learn your magical code." Oliver hummed.
"Good." Erica smiled,"Come on, I need to teach you some before I go to Cedric's house."
"Cedric's house?"
"Mhm, Cedric's house!"
"Right... I forgot you were friends with him." He nodded.
"Yeah, he's so cool!"
"He's a good player on the field." Oliver agreed.
"I mean, you're not so bad yourself."
"Who's better?" He leaned closer.
"Cedric."
"Hey!"
"I'm sorry, you aren't a Hufflepuff and that brings your score down." Erica tried to pat his head but he was too tall.
Oliver leaned his head down for Erica to pat,"Am I second place out of all players?"
"Yes." Erica told him,"But second is good, well, to me it is."
"Second is better than last."
"Exactly but try telling Percy that." Erica huffed.
"Percy loves being first." He hummed.
"And being smart... You're a perfect match!"
"Perfect match indeed."
"Yeah, because you're not smart."
"Excuse you?"
"You heard me~" Erica skipped off.
Oliver watched her as she left before he walked up to Percy's room.

Parker had just came down from her room and went to the kitchen to grab a snack.
"And what do you think you're doing?" Lucius questioned.
Parker turned as she sighed,"Looking for a snack?"
"Have you cleaned your room?"
"My room's clean, it always is." Parker nodded.
"Well you should be getting ready, your tutor is coming soon."
"Tutor? But I'm doing well in my classes, father."
"Well, I expect you to be at the top." Lucius pointed.
"It's only school." Parker scoffed as she opened a cupboard.
"School is very important. "He swatted her hand with his cane.
"Ow!" Parker yelped.
"Go to your room." Lucius commanded.
"No, I want a snack." Parker held her hand in pain.
"You're not getting a snack."
"Then I'm not going to this tutor." Parker rolled her eyes and crossed her arms.
"Feeling brave, are we?" Lucius' fingers tightened around his cane.
Parker shifted from her spot before she looked down at the ground.
"Now, I recommend you go up t your room this instant if you don't want to be punished."
"... Yes father." Parker sighed as she turned and ran upstairs.
"Good." He turned away from her.
Parker went to her room, sitting down on her bed as she thought about what to do. She hated it here, she hated her dad!
What if she just... left?
That's what she did. Parker grabbed a case and packed it. Once she had, she snuck downstairs and left..To where? The only person that she could rely on, other than Erica of course.
Andromeda. Her aunt and only family member she could trust, that and she didn't share the same horrible views as her other family members. She had snuck off to her Aunt's plenty of times. She was only there last summer so she knew the way.
*********************************
After walking for ages, she finally got to the cottage her aunt and uncle lived in,"Auntie Andi? Uncle Ted?"
Andromeda opened the door,"Parker, oh, what are you doing over here?"
"It's my stupid dad."
"Aw, honey." She patted her niece's head.
"Can I stay here?" Parker looked up at her.
"Of course, you're always welcome here." Andromeda smiled.
"Oh I hate him. I hate them." Parker hugged Andromeda.
"I hate him too." She hugged back.
"... Can you bake me something? He wouldn't let me eat."
"He wouldn't w- Of course, dear." Andromeda shook her head,"Come in."
Parker rubbed her arms as she walked into the cottage.
Andromeda sighed and shut the door,"You can make yourself comfortable, baby snake."
"Baby snake?" Parker laughed at the name as she sat down.
"I'm working on it, don't laugh." Andromeda chuckled as she walked into her kitchen.
"I like it." Parker hummed.
Andromeda smiled softly. Meanwhile, Ted slept on the couch as some football played on the TV, a muggle sport.
"I'm still so confused about how this works." Parker looked at the tv, trying not to wake her uncle.
"Which part, the TV or the sport?" Andromeda asked.
"Both. Flying makes more sense for the sport and the TV... It's just so weird."
"I don't fully understand it myself but Ted seems to like it." Andromeda shrugged,"He enjoys watching his magical box."
"Does it only show football?"
"No, there are other things." Andromeda walked through with an apron on and picked up a small grey remote,"Aha."
"That's a weird wand." Parker hummed.
"I know, he calls it a 'remote'." Andromeda pressed a button and on the screen were now people baking,"I'm still convinced there's some sort of magic in this."
"There has to be." Parker watched in amazement before a loud ringing was heard from Ted's pocket.
"Ted, your small magic box." Andromeda shook him.
"H-huh? Oh, the phone." Ted quickly got up and pulled out a small rectangle box, putting it to his ear.
"Oh my- Andie!" Parker clapped,"I love it here."
Andromeda smiled and ruffled her hair,"You'll love it even more after I bake my cookies."
Parker smiled and sat back down as she flicked through the channels on the TV, with this... Remote. Andromeda headed back into the kitchen as Ted spoke to someone on his magic box.
Parker then got up and looked around fhe living room. It was so weird, having Wizard and Muggle things together. But the main thing was that the two loved each other and didn't care for their differences.
Ted soon put his magic box away and looked over at Parker,"Your dad again?"
Parker turned,"It's always him, Uncle Ted."
Ted sighed and shook his head,"Well, tonight we're going to sit here and pretend he doesn't exists."
Parker gave a small smile,"I wish I could live here. I wish they weren't my parents."
"Y-yeah, me too, kid." Ted nodded, although he looked sort of... Tense?
Parker studied Ted for a second as she sat down.
"Well, is there anything you'd like to watch while we wait?" Ted quickly changed the subject.
"I don't know much about this magic box."
"Well, let's see." Ted took the remote carefully and began flicking, "The news, baking, golf, some horror movie-"
"Horror movie?"
"They have everything, I don't know which one is on though." Ted clicked it.
"I'll watch anything."
Ted sat back as 'Scream' turned on. After a while, Andromeda came through with the cookies, placing them down in the middle of the coffee table so everyone could reach them.
"Thank you, dear." Ted smiled at her.
"Thanks Andie." Parker hummed and took one,"These are so good!"
"They're made with love." Andromeda sat down in between them.
That's all Parker wanted... Love.
"We're watching a movie called... Scream." Parker nodded.
"Ted? Horror movies?" Andromeda looked at him.
Ted raised his hands,"She picked this, not me."
"It looks fun." Parker smiled.
"Well, they are." Andromeda nodded.
During the movie, Ted motioned to speak to his wife alone for a moment. Andromeda nodded slowly and got up, the pair walking off into the hallway.
"I have a question to ask." Ted sighed.
"About?" Andromeda raised a brow.
Ted glanced into the living room,"Do you think... We'd be able to tell her?"
"Tell her- Oh, about... You know what?" Andromeda asked quietly.
"It's wrong to keep it from her, dear." Ted sighed.
"I know." Andromeda shook her head,"We should, she deserves to know."
"So it's settled?"
Andromeda nodded,"Its settled."
Ted nodded, walking by her before he sat down on the couch.
"Parker, there's something your uncle and I have to tell you." Andromeda sa down too,"Something we think you deserve to know."
Parker turned to them,"Don't tell me you're gonna spoil the end of the movie.'
"No, no, of course not.' Andromeda chuckled.
"Okay... Go on." Parker nodded.
"Well, we wanted to talk to you about your parents-" Ted began.
That's when there was a loud knock from the door.
"I'll go." Ted nodded slowly before he got up and went to the door.
Andromeda sighed,"Whoever that is, they have horrible timing."
"Hello?" Ted opened the door.
Lucius was stood in front of him, glaring.
Ted crossed his arms,"Lucius. May I help you?"
"My daughter, you have her."
"I don't have your daughter."
"You know what I meant, Ted." Lucius lowered his voice,"You have Parker."
"She doesn't want to come home." Ted crossed his arms.
"She's going to come home."
"I think its best you leave." Ted began to close the door.
Lucius grabbed the door,"I don't think you fully understand me."
"No, Lucius. You don't fully understand me. Parker, doesn't want to come with you.'
"Parker doesn't have a choice." Lucius hissed.
"She can stay with us if she wants. Like she does. She's happy here."
Lucius scoffed as a smirk formed on his face,"Now... What about your actual daughter, what could do with her?"
Ted looked at Lucius,"Don't you dare, talk about my daughter."
"Aw, how cute." Lucius rolled his eyes beforehe whispered,"I could have someone make it look like an accident, you know how clumsy she is."
It took Ted a second before he turned and walked to the living room, he had no choice.
"Much appreciated." Lucius patted his shoulder as he walked.
"Who was at the door, Uncle Ted?" Parker sat up.
"Your father." Ted swallowed, looking away.
Parker froze for a second,"Well... You turned him away so it's okay."
"I..." Ted sighed as Lucius walked through,"I couldn't, dear."
Parker looked at Lucius before she shook her head,"No. I'm not going back."
"I think you'll find that you don't have a say in the matter." Lucius told her.
Parker quickly turned to her aunt and held onto her wrist,"Don't make me go back- Please! I can't go back."
Andromeda held onto Parker and Ted shook his head.
"He said he was going to hurt Nymphadora, I couldn't." Ted shook his head.
"If you don't want her having an 'accident', I suggest you give my own daughter back." Lucius hummed fo Andromeda.
Andromeda glared at Lucius but she was most definitely terrified.
"Dear." Ted sighed,"It's... It's time to let go."
"But I don't- No, I cant!" Andromeda knelt down as she held Parker close.
"Oh, for goodness sake." Lucius cursed before he stormed over, grabbing Parker from Andromeda's grasp and pulling her away.
"Get off me!" Parker hit his arm.
"Don't touch her!" Andromeda reached out but Ted held her back.
"She'll be okay." Ted sighed as he hugged his wife,"She's a fighter."
"Thank you for your cooperation, Edward." Lucius hummed at Ted as he pushed Parker out the cottage and slammed the door behind them.
"I'm sorry, baby snake." Andromeda whispered as she covered her face.
