Chapter 60 - Camping Trip

"I have all my stuff packed." Trixie brought her bag to Matteo's room.

"You sure that's exactly what you're taking?" Matteo turned to her,"Because we're not coming back until tomorrow."

"I have... My onesie and teddy." Trixie nodded.

"And you don't want anything else?" Matteo asked.

"What else do I need?"

"I don't know, a pillow or blanket in case it gets cold? A mat so your sleeping bag doesn't get wet?"

"Oh... Those are good ideas." Trixie ran to her room.

Matteo sighed and shook his head as he made his way downstairs.

"Hey Matt, you packed?" Parker asked as she packed some food.

"I'm packed." Matteo nodded as he heard a knock at the door.

"Can you grab the door?"

"Of course." Matteo sighed as he walked to and opened the front door.

"Sup." Frank walked in.

"I still don't understand why you had to come." Matteo sighed as Phoenix and Cedar followed him in.

"To supervise my sisters." Frank shrugged.

"I'm sure you'll be great at that." Matteo rolled his eyes.

"Be nice." Phoenix pointed.

"He started it." Frank pointed back.

"But you don't need to finish it."

"Alright." Frank sighed.

"We're all going to get along." Cedar looked between them.

"Yes Cedar." Both boys agreed.

"Thank you." She hummed.

"Hihi!" Trixie ran up to them.

"Hi Trix." Cedar smiled.

"Are you guys ready for camping?"

"I am, I'm not sure about Theo and Frank." Phoenix sighed.

"Oh I'm ready." Matteo nodded.

"Likely story." Frank shook his head.

"Are you ready?" Matteo looked at him.

"Of course."

"You've got a tiny bag."

"Yours is massive." Frank pointed.

"Because I've came prepared." He shrugged.

"What have you got in there?" Frank blinked.

"Mats, sleeping bags, clothes, water.." He began listing.

"I see." Frank cut him off.

"I needed to bring extra because Trixie won't carry too much."

"I've got two sisters, they carry most of it." Frank shrugged.

"Be a big brother, help them." Matteo punched his arm.

"I tried." Frank raised his hands defensively.

"You girls just know he's not as strong." Matteo chuckled and walked off.

"Okay kids, everyone in." Blaise clapped his hands.

"We're in, we're ready." Frank sighed.

"Please, for the love of Merlin... Please try your best not to argue. You're only in the woods for one night."

"We'll try." Matteo crossed his arms.

"If anyone feels the need to come home, call me or Parker." Blaise handed them all a small box of baked treats.

"We will, Uncle Blaise." Cedar assured him.

"Right, on you go. Be safe, all of you." Blaise kissed Trixie's head.

Trixie giggled,"Adventure is out there."

"Don't stray far from the others." Blaise pointed.

"I won't." Trixie called back to him as she walked out of the door, followed by the others.

"They'll be fine." Parker assured Blaise as she walked up.

"I sure hope so." Blaise shook his head,"You know what they're like."

"They're smart kids."

"When they want to be."

"Be nice." Parker hummed.

"Those boys are always at each other's throats." Blaise sighed.

"All boys are." Parker crossed her arms,"Come on."

"I'm coming."

"Right. Campfire is going good." Matteo clapped his hands.

"This is going... Surprisingly well." Phoenix smiled softly.

"So far." Trixie nodded,"S'more?"

"S'more!" Cedar grinned.

"Here." Trixie held them out.

"Thank you." She hummed.

"They get a little messy so I brought napkins."

"Good thinking." Phoenix nodded.

"You brought napkins but nearly forgot a pillow?" Matteo asked.

"Napkins are a need, Theo." Trixie pointed.

"Not necessarily." Matteo shook his head.

"Well you've got chocolate all over you. Napkin?" She held it out.

Matteo sighed,"Sure."

Trixie smiled and handed it to him before she sat on a log. Frank was stood a bit away from the group, looking up.

"What's wrong?" Cedar walked up to him.

"It's going to rain." He sighed.

"You can tell?"

"You get good at it after a while."

"You do always like the outside." Cedar agreed.

"I need to know these things, kid." Frank patted her head.

"You act like I'm ten years younger than you." Cedar swatted his hand away.

"Something wrong with that?"

"No. I like having an older brother." Cedar gave a small smile.

"I like being appreciated." Frank smiled back.

"We're doing s'mores back there, I know you like marshmallows." Cedar held up one.

"I'll be fine." Frank shook his head.

"Please?"

Frank looked hesitant but took it,"Only since you asked so nicely."

"Thank you." Cedar ate her own.

Frank chuckled before he ate his s'more.

"It's good, right?" Cedar looked up at him.

"Mhm." Frank nodded, his mouth full

"Come on, it's getting dark." Cedar began walking back.

"Tent time." Frank stretched as he headed after her.

"So who's sharing with who?" Trixie asked.

"Well Trixie, who do you want to share with?" Cedar asked her.

"I... I don't know- I don't mind." She shrugged.

"As long as I'm not with Theo, I don't care." Phoenix sighed,"No offense, by the way."

"What's wrong with me?" Matteo blinked.

"I said no offense." Phoenix shrugged,"Nothing's wrong with you, you're just... You."

"You're too kind."

"I know."

"Well, who do you want to go with Theo?" Trixie turned.

"Anyone but Frank." Matteo sighed,"Unless... Nobody else wants him. I'll suffer."

"Girls go with each other?" Trixie smirked.

"I'm sure you boys will have fun." Cedar giggled.

"You don't snore, right?" Matteo turned to Frank.

"No, but I think you do. Trixie told me." Frank poked him.

"Like a train honking." Trixie giggled.

"Shut up." Matteo groaned.

"Dont keep me up all night." Frank walked towards the tent.

"Have fun!" The girls waved as they got in their own tent.

"Don't kill each other." Phoenix pointed before entering the tent.

"They'll be okay, right?" Trixie sat on her sleeping bag.

"I hope so." Cedar sighed as she heard a faint pattering noise. The rain had come on.

"We're safe in the tent." Trixie closed the zip up.

"It'll keep the rain out." Phoenix agreed.

After a while, the rain had gotten worse and thunder and lightning had came along.

"Can you move over? You're squashing me." Matteo sighed.

"Y-yeah, yeah." Frank shuffled over but he wasn't laying down, he was sat up.

"What's up with you?" Matteo looked at him

"Nothing, I'm fine." Frank looked away from Matteo.

"Frank."

"Theo."

"What's going on?"

"It's stupid, you'll just laugh." Frank sighed but tensed as thunder rumbled nearby.

"You don't like thunder?"

Frank shook his head,"Bad memories."

Matteo bit his cheek and sat up,"If it makes you feel any better... I don't like fireworks."

Frank looked down before edging closer to Matteo.

"And things not being tidy. I hate it." Matteo sighed.

"I hate alcohol." Frank added.

"Y'know, as much as we hate to admit it, we're very alike Frankie."

"When you sit down and think about it, we really are." Frank patted Matteo's head.

"Here." Matteo went into his bag, handing him some ear defenders,"They're Trixie's but... She seems okay for now."

Frank put them on before hugging Matteo.

"We don't speak of this." Matteo chuckled and hugged him.

"Aw, I'm sure the girls would love to hear about it." Frank teased.

"Don't push it."

"Okay, okay." He chuckled.

Meanwhile in the other tent, Trixie was eating all the snacks

"Trixie, what are you doing?" Phoenix rubbed her eyes.

"Stress eating." Trixie whispered.

Phoenix sighed and sat up,"Come here."

Trixie sat up and moved next to her.

Phoenix pulled her into a hug,"It's the noise, isn't it?"

"Yeah... But I don't want to get Matteo 'cause he's sleeping." Trixie sighed, hugging her side.

"Do you want me to get him? I'll kick him awake. He won't mind." Phoenix rubbed her back.

"No, it's okay." Trixie looked at her,"I like your curls." She played with Phoenix's hair.

"Thanks Trix." Phoenix nodded,"Is there anything I can do to make you feel better?"

"Just hugging helps, Nixie." Trixie shook her head.

"Well, I've gotten good at that."

"You're very good at it." Trixie agreed,"Do you like the thunder?"

"I mean, it's okay. But Frankie doesn't like it." Phoenix shook her head.

"Do you think he's okay?"

"I hope so."

"What if... We snuck back to my house?" Trixie sat up,"Or even the barn! With the animals, they'll be lonely."

"Do you want me to take you home?" Phoenix asked.

"I don't want us to just go ourselves."

"Wake Ced, she doesn't like sleeping by herself."

"Will the boys be okay here?"

"I trust them." Phoenix shrugged,"But if you want, I can get them."

"We could all just hide in the barn, where its safe for all of us." Trixie shrugged.

"Or your house."

"I don't want mum or dad to be mad... I promised I could do it." Trixie sighed.

"They won't be mad at you, I promise." Phoenix squeezed her hand,"They love you and they'll be proud that you tried."

Trixie nodded slowly,"Okay."

"Now, you wake Ced. I'll get the boys up." Phoenix told her as she left the tent.

Trixie nodded again, turning to Cedar and shaking her gently.

"Mh?" She opened her eyes, squinting as her eyes adjusted.

"We're going back to my house." Trixie whispered.

"Oh... Okay." Cedar smiled sleepily.

"You can be more comfy at home." She began packing her bag.

"Mhm." Cedar rubbed her eyes.

"Come on." Trixie hummed.

"Coming." Cedar got up slowly.

"Nixie, are the boys awake?" Trixie poked her head out.

Phoenix kicked the tent,"Get up, we're leaving."

Matteo jumped up,"The fuck?"

"Did you not hear me? We're leaving."

"Frank, come on." Matteo grumbled.

"I'm coming." Frank sighed.

"Thunders off for a now." Matteo helped him up.

"Better head fast, before it starts again." Frank left the tent.

*********************************

"If we be quiet, it'll be okay." Trixie smiled as she walked into the cottage.

"We don't need to hide from them." Matteo shrugged,"If they wake up, they wake up."

"Dad likes his sleep." Trixie told him.

"Too bad." Frank sighed.

"The spare room should be clean, mum cleans it a lot." Trixie turned to the others.

"Mum cleans everything a lot." Matteo mumbled.

Trixie nodded before they heard a bang. Frank grabbed Phoenix and Cedar and pulled them closer to himself after the bang went off.

"Well if there's someone in the house they're gonna know now, Blaise." Parker cursed from upstairs.

"Mum, it's just us." Matteo sighed.

"Oh- Kids?" Parker walked downstairs.

"Yep, we're back." Frank nodded.

"Why so early?" Parker rubbed her eyes.

"The thunder was upsetting Trixie and Frank." Phoenix pointed.

"Oh- Trixie, here." Frank took off the ear defenders.

"Thanks Frankie." Trixie took them.

"You should've called us." Blaise sighed.

"I didn't bring my phone." Frank shrugged.

"None of us did." Cedar nodded tiredly.

"But we're here now." Phoenix rubbed her eyes.

"Off to bed then, come on." Parker smiled softly.

"Night night, mum." Trixie yawned.

"Night everyone." Parker waved as they walked upstairs.
