Chapter 32 - Dad...? ~ Part 1
"Mum, please?" Matteo begged her.
Parker gave Matteo a look, "How many times have you asked this now?
"A lot."
"And how many times have I said no?"
"Every single time." He sighed.
"I'm sorry Matteo, but you're not seeing that man." Parker pointed as she closed her book.
"But why not?"
Parker sighed and stood up from the couch, "Because he's... He's just not a nice man."
"But I want to meet my dad!"
"Your father is a horrible man, Theo! What don't you get?"
"What if he's changed? Huh? What if he decides that he wants me now?"
"Then he knows where to find us. I'm going out to the barn." Parker rubbed her head.
Matteo crossed his arms, glaring at his mother as she left.
"What's wrong with your face?' Trixie skipped into the kitchen.
"Nothing that you should be concerned about." Matteo shook his head.
"Your face is concerning."
"Your hair is concerning. Have you even brushed it?"
"I've just woke up." Trixie spoke in a 'duh' tone.
"So? Brush your hair." Matteo threw it over to her, not too hard, of course.
Trixie took the brush and brushed it,"Better?'
"Better."
"Where's mum?" Trixie looked about.
"Oh, she's in the barn." He pointed.
"It's my turn to feed the donkey! Trixie gasped as she ran out the backdoor.
Matteo smiled slightly as she ran past him before sighing, walking up to his room. He wanted to meet his father but mum would never tell him anything about him... How would he do this? Maybe... If he did some detective work... He could find out where he lived!
**
"Blaise I'm fine. Parker assured him as she cooked dinner.
"You're not, I can tell." He sighed, walking over.
Parker looked at him.
"Come on, tell me what's on your mind."
"I... Wanted to make strawberry puffs." Parker shrugged.
"Oh, then let me help."
"No, no! You just- We don't have... Flour."
"I could've sworn I got some yesterday." Blaise shook his head.
"Oh... That's right. Sorry, Blaise. Yeah, yeah, you can help. I do not trust you to make it yourself." Parker smiled.
"You're so kind, Parker." He hummed.
"I know." Parker nodded.
Blaise smiled as he began to help Parker with the baking. Soon enough the puffs were in oven and Parker washed her hands.
"So... Are you going to tell me what's really been bugging you?" Blaise sat on the counter.
"I thought you forgot." Parker cursed under her breath.
"I never forget, darling."
"You forgot your birthday last year."
"Eh- So? Just tell me what's going on. Blaise crossed his arms.
Parker leaned against the counter,"Matteo wants to meet Nathan."
Blaise froze momentarily."Ah.."
Parker looked to the floor,"I don't know what to do."
"I could try talking to him." He offered.
Parker looked up at him,"I couldn't ask you to do that hun".
"Maybe we could relate to each other."
Parker held his hand, "Are you... Sure? I don't want you getting upset?"
"Don't worry, I'll be alright." Blaise smiled softly.
"If you're sure." Parker kissed his hand.
"Very sure."
"I'll finish up down here then I'll come up." Parker nodded.
Blaise nodded as well before heading up the stairs. Only halfway up did he start getting second thoughts. No, Blaise! This is your son. You have to be there for him. Blaise got to the door and he heard Matteo humming to himself.
"Matteo?" He knocked gently on the door,"Can I, uh, speak with you?"
"Hold on." Matteo quickly put some stuff away before he sat up and looked at the door, "What?"
Blaise pushed open the door,"It's about this whole dad' business."
"Nevermind, go away." Matteo groaned.
"Matteo, it's important."
"Did mum send you up?"
"No, I came by myself."
"I don't want to talk." Matteo turned away.
"Matteo-"
"I'm busy."
"Doing?" Blaise raised a brow.
"Things..."
Blaise squinted, noticing some crumpled paper in the bin,"Theo, are you... Writing something?"
"No... Yes. A... Letter to my girlfriend!"
"I see. Blaise nodded slowly.
"Can you leave now?"
"Yeah I'll- I'll leave." Blaise closed the door behind him.
Matteo thought for a second before he looked at the door, "Blaise?"
"Yes?" He turned, opening the door again.
"I... I want to talk."
"Oh, alright then." Blaise stepped inside, closing the door behind him.
Matteo crossed his arms and looked at him.
"Now I feel like I'm in trouble." Blaise sighed, "What have I done?"
"What did mum tell you?"
"Tell me?"
"To make you come up here."
"Not much, just that you wanted to see Nathan." Blaise admitted.
"Of course I want to see my dad. She's hid him from me up to now." Matteo scoffed.
Blaise sighed, this was going to be hard to say but... He needed to say it.
"Matteo. Your dad walked out on you before you were born. Your mother never hid him from you. He doesn't want anything to do with you."
Matteo looked at him, "You're... Just lying."
"I'm not lying to you. Your Auntie Erica would tell you the same thing." Blaise pointed.
"I'm sure." Matteo shrugged.
"Honestly, I could apparate you to Romania right now so you could ask her."
Matteo rolled his eyes and turned away.
"You have to believe me, Matteo. I've been in your position before-"
"How have you been in my position before?"
"I never knew my dad, always wanted to." Blaise shook his head,"But soon enough I had to realize that he was never coming back for me."
"Well, my dad is. I know he is."
"You don't know him Matteo. You know his name. That's it. You don't know what kind of person he is!"
"And you do?!"
"Yes, in fact, I do!"
"How?" Matteo got up.
"Me and your mother were good friends, but not when Nathan was around. He wouldn't let her see anyone he didn't like, especially me and your Auntie Erica." Blaise crossed his arms.
"... You're just saying this to make me not want to see him." Matteo mumbled.
"I'm not." Blaise shook his head, 'I'm going to go make a phone call.
"Wh-What?" He blinked.
"I'm going to get your Aunt on the phone, or even your Uncle Dray. They'll tell you I'm not lying."
Matteo rolled his eyes and fell on his bed. Blaise sighed, ringing Erica's number. Begging her to pick up in his head.
"Come on Er.. Blaise muttered.
"Blaise? What is it?" She yawned.
"Matteo wants to meet Nathan."
"Hell to the no, he isn't!"
"Ow-Wow, you're loud in the morning."
"Apologies Blaise, but why would he want to meet that asshole?"
"I don't know. He just told Parker and she won't let him." Blaise told her.
"Well let me list all the things about him that make him the worst." Erica began,"He's abusive, controlling, very judgemental and lazy. He abandoned your mum for being a witch, he shamed me fro sleeping around and made me insecure about my scars. He's the worst!"
Matteo mumbled into the mattress, he wasn't really caring.
"Speak up. Theo. I can't hear you."
"I'm tired."
"So am I. Someone woke me up."
"Go back to sleep then, I'm going out." Matteo got up from the bed.
"Night, Theo." Erica mumbled before Blaise hung up for her.
"Bye Blaise." Matteo grabbed his jacket.
"Where are you going?" Blaise asked.
"To meet Frank." Matteo shrugged.
"I see." Blaise nodded slowly,"You guys on good terms now?"
"Yeah, yeah.' Matteo nodded before he left his room.
"Whatever you say." Blaise mumbled.
"Bye mum." Matteo walked out the house.
"Theo? Where are you-" Parker began but the door was already closed.
"Weird.." Trixie shook her head.
"Hold on Trix. Don't eat all the puffs." Parker walked to Blaise,"What happened?"
"Decided that Erica and I were liars and only saying Nathan was bad so he wouldn't want to see him."
Parker sighed and held her head in her hands.
"I'm sure we'll get through to him soon." Blaise assured her.
"I hope." Parker sighed.
**
Matteo checked his map, he was nearly there, approaching his father's house. What was he going to say? Or do? More importantly, how was his dad going to react? Alright. Here it was. Here he goes. He bit his lip, knocking on the door of his father's house.
"I'm coming hold on!" A man shouted.
Matteo froze slightly. Oh god, this was really happening. Soon enough a man who must've been at least 10 years older than his mother opened the door.
"Yeah sorry kid, I don't want no scout cookies." Nathan shook his head.
"Actually, I'm here for something else." Matteo shook his head, taking a deep breath, I'm your son."
Nathan looked Matteo up and down,"I ain't have no son."
"You do, with Parker."
"Parker..?"
"Lestrange-Black."
"Oh! Oh... Right." Nathan crossed his arms.
"Erica and Blaise said bad things about you but they have to be lying, right?" Matteo looked up at his father.
"Your mother is still friends with them?" Nathan scoffed before he came up with an idea,"What... Bad things?"
"Erica gave me a list of how you were the worst and Blaise told me you don't want me."
"Well, that's all a lie, ain't it? You know what? Come on in, it's freezing." Nathan held the door open.
"Oh, thanks." Nathan smiled.
"You can tell me all about it. You like tea?" Nathan asked.
"I really like tea." He nodded.
"I'll make a cuppa then." Nathan nodded and lead him into the kitchen.
"Your kitchen is very nice." Matteo commented.
"I work really hard for a house like this." Nathan informed him.
"What do you work as?" Matteo asked.
"I... Work as a top security guard." Nathan shrugged.
"Ooh, that's cool!"
"Ain't it?' Nathan nodded, "So tell me, your mum. How is she?"
"She's good but she has a new boyfriend." Matteo shook his head.
"A new boyfriend, hm?"
"Mhm, Blaise."
Nathan shifted as he poured tea,"Zabini."
"The one in the same."
"How long has that been a going on?"
"A while, I think." Matteo shrugged.
"Oh, I'm happy for her." Nathan gave him a smile and handed him the mug.
"Thanks." Matteo nodded, carefully taking it.
"But Blaise doesn't like me, obviously due to them lying about me."
"You sound great, I don't know why they lie so much."
"Some adults are like that." Nathan sighed, "Say, you had a sister, you were a twin."
"Mhm, Trixie." Matteo nodded
"She good? She look like mum?"
"She's good and yes, she looks like mum."
"Good to know." Nathan nodded, "I'm sorry I haven't been in your life bud."
"It's okay, you can be in my life now. Matteo smiled.
"What does your mum say about that?"
"She doesn't want you involved." Matteo huffed.
"She only used me, Matteo. She used me and then once she was done with me, she pushed me to the side." Nathan pointed, "Your mother is awfully a lot like her own."
"Her own?" Matteo raised a brow.
"Her mother." Nathan shrugged, "You didn't get to meet her."
"No, I didn't." Matteo shook his head
"Here, I'll make a deal with you. Write your mum's address on here and I'll come visit." Nathan sighed as he handed him a notepad.
Matteo gasped, quickly taking a pen from his pocket and writing down his address. Nathan smirked to himself as he drank his own tea, his plan was working.
"Here!" Matteo handed it to him.
"Thanks bud." Nathan took the paper,"Look, I'll come visit tomorrow, yeah?'
"Yeah."
"Alright. How'd you get here?"
"Auntie Erica taught me a bit about information gathering so I gathered information and found your address." Matteo explained.
"You're a smart kid." Nathan smiled at him.
"Thanks dad, but I'd better get going."
"Right, or course. I'll show you out." He got up.
Matteo smiled, heading towards the door with his dad. He knew he wasn't a bad person!
**
"He should be back by now..Im gonna go look for him. Parker paced.
"I'm sure he's fine-" Blaise began
That's when there was a knock at the door.
"Hello?" Blaise got up, going to answer it.
That's when he saw the ginger hair.
"Erica, what a s-"
"Where is he?" Erica tapped her foot.
"He's not home yet." Parker pulled her inside.
"Well he better get home soon because I'm in a shit mood and not ready to deal with this."
"Did you leave Romania to come here?"
"Yes."
"Merlin, Erica." Parker sighed, "You hungry? We have strawberry puffs."
"I'm not hungry, but thanks for the offer." Erica nodded.
"Come sit then." Parker walked her through to the living room and as she did, she heard footsteps running.
"Auntie Erica!" Trixie gasped.
"Hey, Trix." She bent down to her height.
"I'm not that small." Trixie laughed and hugged her.
"Aw, but you are." Erica hugged her back.
"How's the dragons?"
"Very good."
"Even carrot?"
"Carrot is doing really well."
Trixie hummed and pulled away as the front door opened and everyone looked to see Matteo.
"There you are, young man." Erica turned to face him.
"Aunt Erica- What are you doing here?' Matteo blinked.
"I'm here to protect you."
"Protect me?"
"Exactly."
"From..?"
"Your asshole of a father"
"He's not an asshole."
"How would you know? You don't know what he was like." Erica pointed.
"Because you're all just lying!"
"I must not tell lies and don't." Erica shook her head.
"None of you understand." Matteo shook his head and ran upstairs.
Erica was silent for a few minutes before walking into the kitchen. A bang was heard before she walked back in. Parker sighed and walked into the kitchen, looking at her friend.
"I'm frustrated." She began pacing around the kitchen.
"So am I. But you can't punch things." Parker hugged her.
"I know, especially when it's not my wall." Erica sighed.
"Is there a hole?
Erica was quiet,"No?"
Parker checked, "Then it's okay. And if there was a hole... We could pretend it's Nathan's face."
"We shall." Blaise agreed.
"I just... I don't see why he wants to meet him all of a sudden." Parker sighed.
"He's probably wanted to for ages." Blaise sighed.
"He shouldn't want to see him, he's dangerous." Parker held her head.
"He's the worst!" Erica crossed her arms.
"You're telling me." Parker scoffed.
"That boy is too much like you, he's stubborn." Erica sighed.
"I am not stubborn."
"You are."
"Not."
"See what I mean?"
Parker crossed her arms, "Right. Okay... I maybe see it a little."
"A little, is an understatement Hun." Blaise sighed.
"Well... Anyway." Parker hummed,"Let's all head to bed, Erica you can stay in the guest room if you'd like."
"If you don't mind." Erica nodded.
"And you better sleep." Parker warned.
"I will, jeez. It's like you don't trust me to take care of myself." Erica huffed.
Parker gave her a look.
"What?"
"I'll be checking through put the night." Parker pointed.
"I'll sleep." She sighed.
Parker nodded, "Right. Night then."
She took Blaise's hand and pulled him upstairs.
"Behave." Erica called after them both.
"Oh, we will!" Blaise smirked.
"You get your hands off her you bastard!"
Parker laughed and closed the door.
**
Erica was stood in the kitchen, tapping on the counter as she waited for her water to boil.
"Morning Er." Blaise yawned.
"Good morning, Blaise. Coffee?" She raised a brow.
"That would be nice, thank you." Blaise nodded as a cat jumped up on the counter.
"Hello, kitty." Erica hummed.
"Coffee." Blaise nodded.
"I love you." She stroked his head.
"Aw. I love you too- You're talking to the cat." Blaise nodded.
"Ew, obviously don't love you." Erica scoffed.
"Well, I do." Parker hummed, "Good morning, Coffee!
"He's such a good boy" Erica was now holding Coffee.
That's when Erica heard a meow from below her.
She gasped and picked up a second cat,"Hello, buddy."
"Hey, be careful with Toast!" Blaise pointed.
"I'm very careful, aren't I?" Erica turned to Parker.
All of a sudden Erica felt a scratch at her ankle. Another cat! But she didn't have any more hands... That's when she had an idea. She lifted Coffee up so he was sat on her head as she picked up the third cat.
"Erica put down my cats." Blaise crossed his arms.
"They love me, Blaise."
"They love me more, give me my children."
"No."
That's when they heard an animal that wasn't a cat... A donkey!
"No- Harold you can't get lifted up. Parker laughed as he looked through the window.
"I can try-"
"No!" Blaise pointed.
"Okay, put the cats down, I will make breakfast." Parker nodded.
"Fine." Erica sighed.
Blaise held his hands out for his cats. Toast and the other one transferred themselves to Blaise but Coffee remained on Erica's head.
"Coffee." Blaise looked at her.
"Meow."
"You like Erica more than me?"
"Meow!"
Blaise gasped and pointed, "You take that back!"
"Meow." Coffee turned from him.
Blaise pouted slightly and put the other cats down before he sat down.
"It appears I have won this battle and now wear a crown of victory. Erica smirked.
"A crown of puss-" Blaise began.
"Woah! No! Bad Blaise!" Parker pointed.
Erica blinked,"The fuck were you going to say-"
"Morning! Trixie skipped in.
"Oh, good morning." Erica smiled.
"What were you saying?"
"Nothing, Blaise was just being stupid. Weren't you?" Erica shot him a glare.
"Very stupid." Blaise nodded slowly.
"See, he's a silly man." Erica reached up to pet Coffee.
"Why is coffee on your head?" Trixie laughed.
"Because he loves me."
"He loves me more." Trixie smiled.
"Is that so?" Erica raised a brow.
"Mhm." Trixie nodded.
"What do you say, Coffee?" She looked up.
Coffee just meowed and jumped off of her.
"Aw, it was fun while it lasted." Erica sat down.
Soon enough everyone was eating breakfast until there was a knock at the door and Matteo ran down.
"Who's at the door?" Erica called to him.
"No one!" Matteo shook his head.
"I heard it, who is it?" She got up.
"Hey kid." They heard a male laugh and hug Matteo.
Parker looked at Blaise and Erica before she ran to the hall.
There he was... Nathan..
"Oh, someone's gonna need to hold me back-" Erica stepped forward.
"What are you doing here?" Parker held Erica's hand.
"Oh, Parker. I hope you don't mind me dropping in." Nathan feigned a smile.
"Oh, Nathan. I do mind." Parker copied him.
"But mum-"
"How does your Father know where we live Matteo?" Parker crossed her arms.
"Because told him!"
"And I told you he is a dangerous man!" Parker pointed.
"But he's not, he's been nice to me!"
"Matteo, go to your room." Parker shook her head.
"No, I won't let you talk about my dad like this!" Matteo pointed.
"What have you said to him?" Parker turned to Nathan.
"Only the truth." Nathan told her.
"Like I believe that, fight me!" Erica stepped forward again.
"We can fight him later." Blaise assured her.
"And what is the truth in your eyes?" Parker scoffed.
"Go on, Matteo. Tell her." Nathan turned to him.
"That you're all liars! And mum used dad." Matteo pointed.
"Can I just strangle him now?" Erica turned to Blaise,"He doesn't speak to my best friend like that!"
"Don't be like that Erica." Nathan sighed.
"I'll be how wanna be. You disrespect her, we can take this outside." She grabbed his shoulder.
"Auntie Erica, please." Matteo shook his head.
Erica took in a deep breath,"Matteo, this is a very bad man."
"No he's no-"
"Nathan... A word?" Parker let out a breath she didn't know she was holding.
"A word?" Nathan raised a brow.
Parker nodded to the living room.
"I suppose so."
Parker gave the other two a look, almost to say 'Keep watch' before she walked into the living room.
"What is it you'd like to... Speak about?" Nathan asked her.
"Why are you here?" Parker asked.
"To see my son of course."
"You didn't want anything to do with him."
"Well, I do now."
"Well, now you're not having any contact with them again!"
"Never?"
Parker took a second before she replied,"Give me a good reason why you want to see my children. And then...Nathan, I'll consider something."
"Can't you see I've changed?" Nathan asked, "Matteo wants me to be in his life. You want to make him happy, don't you?"
"Well- Yes, of course I do but-"
"Then let me have an hour with them, that's all ask."
"Just an hour?"
"Just an hour."
Parker crossed her arms as she thought. An hour couldn't hurt... Right? An hour and then he's done, no more Nathan.
"Fine. But Trixie, she's different. Don't hurt her like you did to me." Parker pointed before she walked back to the kitchen, her mouth over her hand as she took a shaky breath.
She forgot the effect he had on her.
"Parker." Erica placed a hand on her shoulder.
"Yeah?" Parker looked at her.
"Want me to... Y'know, keep an eye on them. From a respectful distance?"
Parker nodded as she hugged Erica, whispering,"I hate him."
"I know, Parker. I know." Erica sighed, rubbing her back.
