Chapter 26 - Hanahaki's Disease

Erica had been waiting outside if Percy's door for ages, she knocked twice as well. He promised her that they'd spend time together that day. There was a clash from inside.

"Right, that's it." Erica sighed, fiddling with the doorknob.

"I'm coming!' Percy shouted from inside.

"You better be." Erica muttered.

Percy took another minute before he opened the door.

"What's been happening in there, Perce?" Erica asked.

"Nothing, I was just... Cleaning." He shrugged.

"Cleaning, mhm." Erica nodded slowly.

"Yeah... And I couldn't hear you due to my music." Percy nodded.

"Your Beethoven?" Erica asked.

"I wish." Percy hummed.

"Hurry up, I want to hang out now." Erica told him.

"Yeah, yeah." He rolled his eyes and opened the door fully.

Erica smiled before noticing the state his room was in.

"What?" Percy looked.

"It's just... Quite messy for it being cleaned." Erica bent down and picked up a book from the floor.

"I was just... Starting." He nodded.

Erica rolled her eyes and examined the cover of the book. An Extensive Encyclopedia of Magical Diseases? Why would he be reading this? That's when Percy coughed.

She turned to face him, book in hand,"Percy? Are you alright?"

"Of course I am." Percy held an object behind his back.

"Percy." Erica crossed her arms.

"Yes?"

"What are you hiding?"

"Nothing." He chuckled.

Erica looked up at him before reaching behind his back. It was a flower?

"Did... Did you just cough up a flower?" Erica blinked.

"No." Percy snatched it back.

"Percy, you tell me the truth or, uh, or..." Erica tried to think of something.

"I didn't cough up a flower." He shrugged.

"Then where did it come from?" Erica asked, opening up the book.

"The... Sky." Percy answered.

Erica gave him a look and sighed, turning the pages before reaching something. Hanahaki's disease.

"Look, I'm fine Er." He assured her.

"Hanahaki's disease?" Percy raised a brow.

"Symptoms include coughing up flowers." Erica pointed.

"And what's the cause of it?" Percy asked.

"Uh.." Erica turned the book back around,"Unrequited love..?"

"Unrequited love?" He scoffed.

"Do you even know what that means?" Erica rolled her eyes.

"Yes I do." He nodded.

"Then who do you love?" She asked.

"No one." Percy crossed his arms, lying obviously.

"That's a bigger lie than Ron saying he isn't scared of spiders." Erica scoffed,"Now fess up.

"I... Like Oliver." He mumbled.

"Aw, that's cute." Erica smiled.

"Shut up." Percy nudged her.

"Nope~" Erica teased.

"Percy.." Erica wrapped her arms around him.

"I'm okay, I'm okay." Percy coughed.

"You're not." Erica sighed.

"There's nothing I can do... Can I?"

"Well, the book said you can cure it if you get the person to like you back." Erica told him.

"How will I get him to?" Percy sighed.

"Leave it to me, bro. I've got this." Erica assured him.

"What? You gonna matchmake us?" He rolled his eyes.

"Exactly."

"Nice- Nice try." He covered his mouth.

"Er." Percy took her hand.

"Perce?" Erica raised a brow.

"Please try... I don't want to die." He whispered.

Erica quickly turned back and hugged him. She would not let him die, not like this. Percy quickly hugged her back.

"Thank you." Percy nodded.

Erica smiled up at him before running to her room. She needed to start planning this out. First, she needed to talk to Oliver. She would write to him, tell him to meet her somewhere. Somewhere private. That was the plan.

**

"Hello? Anyone here?" Oliver looked around.

"Hi, uh, it's me." Erica waved, walking over.

"Erica?" Oliver raised a brow.

"Mhm." Erica nodded, playing with her fingers.

"What did you want? You said it was Asap." Oliver crossed his arms.

"I wanted to talk to you about something super important." Erica told him.

"Which is?" He raised a brow.

"Who do you like? Romantic wise?" Erica asked him.

"That is... My information." Oliver nodded slowly.

"And I run a business, tell me." Erica pointed before adding,"Please?"

"They... Are a man." Oliver shrugged.

Erica nodded, this was great,"Do I get any more clues?"

"Ginger.." Oliver spoke slowly.

"So it's one of my brothers? Good." Erica smiled.

"I never said that!" He pointed.

"We're like the only gingers in Hogwarts, Ollie." Erica told him, starting to walk away.

"No, no. There's more." Oliver ran after her.

"Give me names then." Erica stopped and rolled her eyes.

"His name is... Jeremiah." Oliver pointed.

"Percy? Great." Erica continued walking.

"You sure?" Erica raised a brow.

"No.." Oliver crossed his arms.

"It's perfectly fine." Erica told him.

"No, he- He won't like me back." Oliver spoke slowly.

"He does!" Erica spoke quickly.

"How?"

"Well, he... He has an issue." Erica told him

"He has an issue?"

"That involves coughing up flowers." Erica began rubbing her arm.

"What?" Oliver blinked.

"Yeah..." Erica trailed off,"It's not very nice.."

"Coughing up flowers?"

"Mhm.." Erica nodded slowly.

"Can... Can I see him?" Oliver asked.

"Obviously. I was going to bring you even if you didn't want to." Erica told him

Oliver nodded and quickly followed her.

**

"Percy, open up." Erica pushed open his door without waiting for an answer.

"Hold on!" Percy coughed and hid the flowers.

Erica bit her lip,"I brought him, Percy."

Percy quickly looked at her, "You did- You did what?"

"I brought Oliver." She looked to the side.

"Percy?" Oliver poked his head in.

"O-oliver." Percy tried to regain his composure.

"Oh, Perce." Oliver ran up to him and hugged him.

Percy blinked slowly, he wasn't expecting this.

"Are you okay? Don't answer that- You're not okay, obviously."

"What are you on about? I'm fine-" Percy quickly shook his head.

"You're coughing up flowers." Oliver poked him.

"Says who?" Percy crossed his arms.

Oliver glanced over to Erica. She was fidgeting and Percy sighed.

"So what if I am?"

"Why? What's the cause for it?"

Percy paused.

"Unrequited love." Erica spoke up.

Oliver slowly pulled away from Percy, "What?"

"The truth is Oliver, I... I like you more than a friend."

"More than a friend?"

"Romantically." Percy swallowed.

Oliver looked at him.

"Look, I know you don't feel the same. I just wanted to tell you in case I never get the chance to."

"So what, you love me?" Oliver blinked.

"Yes."

Oliver looked at the two siblings in front of him, "Really...?"

"Really." Percy sighed.

"Fuck." Oliver cursed.

"Oh, that's never good." Erica mumbled.

Oliver cursed and walked off to the side slightly. Erica looked down, fiddling with her hands.

"I'm a goner, Er." Percy whispered to her.

Erica bit her lip, reaching for Percy's hand. Percy tightly held onto her. He didn't want to die, not like this. Erica rested her head against his arm, closing her eyes.

"So, how do we solve this?" Oliver walked over after a minute.

"The disease?" Erica looked up at him.

"Yes." Oliver nodded.

"Well, the only way to cure it would be for the feelings to be reciprocated." Erica sighed.

"And... I like Percy. That's enough... Right?" Oliver asked.

"I don't really know." Erica began to look for the book.

"It has to be-" Percy coughed.

"I thought it would.." Erica began flicking through the pages.

"Oh my god!" Oliver jumped at the sight of a flower.

"It just says the feelings need to be reciprocated, why's it not working?" Erica looked up at them.

"I don't know." Oliver shook his head.

Erica kept scanning the pages before throwing the book aside, it was being very unhelpful.

"Erica, I'll... I'll be okay." Percy whispered.

"But... What if you're not?" She whispered back.

Percy looked at her and held her hand, giving it a squeeze. Erica just kept looking up at him, she didn't want to let go. Until the moment was shortly stopped by Oliver.

"Percy- I love you." He spoke, hoping it would work.

Erica quickly turned to look at Oliver before back at Percy.

Percy looked at Oliver, "Do you actually mean it?"

Oliver began to nod,"Wholeheartedly."

Percy bit his cheek, "Let's just see then."

He held the old flower in his hand as Erica looked up at him hopefully.

"Give it a minute, Er." He squeezed her hand.

"Fifty nine, fifty eight, fifty seven.." She began counting quietly.

"Erica." Both of the boys laughed.

"What? You said give it a minute." She crossed her arms,"I need to be accurate."

After another minute or so... Nothing. No coughing, no anything.

"You're cured!" Erica smiled.

"Let's hope." Percy chuckled.

Erica just wrapped her arms around Percy and hid her face in his jumper.
