Chapter 24 - Cedric?
"So, Dad. Where exactly are we going again?" Erica asked her dad as they walked.
"We're going to a friend's house." Arthur spoke.
"I see." Erin nodded slowly.
"We won't be there for long." Arthur assured her.
"Does this friend have a name?" Erica asked.
"Amos Diggory." He answered.
Erica nodded as they walked up to a house. Where had she heard that name before? Diggory...
"Amos!' Arthur knocked on the door.
The door swung open,"Arthur!"
"How are you old man?" Arthur laughed and hugged him.
"Of course I brought it." Arthur nodded, "Erica, why don't you go and see Cedric?"
"Cedric?" Erica blinked.
"Cedric Diggory, my son." Amos said proudly.
"The Cedric Diggory?" Erica asked.
"Yes." Amos nodded.
"A-alright." Erica stammered.
"He's just up those stairs and to the left." Amos pointed.
Erica nodded and walked inside. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Cedric Diggory, the most popular Hufflepuff boy, was just up the stairs.
"Dad, where did you put my new cloak?" Erica heard him shout from upstairs.
"It's on the hanger." Amos called to him.
"Thank you!" Cedric closed his door.
Erica continued up the stairs and let out a shaky breath before knocking on the door.
"Dad?" Cedric asked and opened the door only to meet a ginger haired girl, "..Oh, hello."
"Hi." Erica blinked.
"Oh- You're that girl." Cedric snapped his finger, "You helped Harry Potter... You're Erica Weasley."
"You... Know me?" Erica looked up at him.
"Of course I know you. You're a hufflepuff, right?" He tilted his head.
"Yes." Erica nodded slowly.
"Yeah, our dads are friends. Come on in." He nodded.
"Oh, alright." Erica entered his room.
"What year are you in?" Cedric asked.
"First year." Erica answered.
"Well, welcome to the school... We've never really had evil teachers before." He nodded slowly and closed his door.
"I would hope not." Erica chuckled slightly.
Cedric chuckled and shook his head, "How are you?"
"A little nervous." Erica admitted.
"I don't bite.' He assured her.
"How can I be sure of that?" Erica raised a brow.
"Well...You can't be. But I promise?" Cedric tried.
"That's enough for me." Erica nodded.
Cedric chuckled, "So what do you like to do?"
"I, uh, like dragons and being with my friends." Erica shrugged.
"Dragons?" Cedric raised a brow.
"Yeah." Erica nodded,"I could tell you about them if you want."
"Go for it." Cedric nodded, pointing for her to have a seat.
Erica sat down before thinking,"Well, there are ten species of purebred dragons for a start."
"Mhm." Cedric listened in.
"There are Hungarian Horntails, Swedish Short-snouts, Common Welsh greens, Chinese Fireballs, Ukrainian Ironbellies, Norwegian Ridgebacks, Romanian Longhorns..." Erica began,"There are also Antipodean Opaleyes, Hebridean Black and the Peruvian Vipertooth."
"Did you learn all this yourself?' Cedric tilted his head.
"Well, my brother Charlie helped me." Erica told him.
"Charlie Weasley?" Cedric's eyes widened.
"Mhm." Erica nodded.
"I looked up to him when I was your year." Cedric chuckled.
"Really?" Erica asked.
"Mhm." Cedric smiled.
Erica looked around for a bit before looking at Cedric,"You're really cool, too."
"Me?" Cedric raised a brow.
"Yes, you." Erin nodded.
"How?" He leaned forward.
"Well, you're really good at quidditch, you're super smart and really nice." Erica began listing.
"Your friend is quite good himself." Cedric gestured to Harry, "Have you ever tried quidditch?"
"A little. I'm not very good, though." Erica shook her head.
"Would you like to learn?" Cedric asked her.
"Yeah." Erica nodded.
"Come on." Cedric got up.
"Wait, you're going to teach me?" Erica blinked.
"Why not? Might as well do something to pass time." Cedric smiled.
Erica smiled and followed after Cedric as they walked downstairs.
"Dad, I'm just heading out back!" Cedric told Amos as he grabbed his broom.
"Alright." Amos nodded,"Be careful."
"..Always." He shrugged and pulled Erica out.
Erica looked around outside, awaiting her first instruction.
"Right, you've had broom lessons I presume?" Cedric raised a brow.
"I have." Erica nodded.
"Show me what you know.' He handed her a broom.
Erica nodded again, getting onto the broom and flying up.
"Is that it?" Cedric asked her.
"Yeah, we haven't really done much." Erica shook her head.
"That's okay.'" Cedric nodded, "Right so.."
**
After Cedric had taught her a few things, he stood back, "Okay, try what I told you."
"Alright." Erica did as she was instructed.
"There you go.' Cedric clapped.
Erica soon landed near Cedric, proud of what she'd done.
"You got it." Cedric smiled.
"All thanks to you." Erica smiled back.
"How do you feel now on the broom?" Cedric asked.
"Much better." Erica told him.
"Confident?" Cedric raised a brow.
"You could say that." She nodded.
"Try a lap." Cedric nodded.
Erica nodded, flying up and around the house. There was only one thing on her mind. Don't fall and embarrass yourself in front of Cedric.
"Was that a bird?" Amos looked out the window as something flew past.
"Hm, it could've been." Arthur shrugged, taking a sip of coffee.
"Bloody fast bird." Amos muttered.
"Maybe a falcon then?" Arthur suggested.
"Possibly." Amos agreed.
"Well done!' Cedric laughed as Erica came back.
"Thanks." Erica let out a breath she didn't know she was holding.
"Think anyone saw you?" He raised a brow.
"Probably not." Erica shook her head
"Then there you are. How do you feel?" Cedric asked her.
"I feel great." Erica smiled.
"Right, come on before they realize." Cedric chuckled and took her broom.
"They'll never know." Erica smirked.
Cedric patted her back before he ran inside. Erica quickly followed after, trying not to get any attention from either of their dads.
"What would you like to do?" Cedric asked as he sat down.
"Well, I'm not sure." Erica shrugged.
"We can do anything you'd like.' Cedric nodded.
"Could we draw?" Erica asked slowly.
"Are you an artist?" Cedric tilted his head.
"I wouldn't go that far." Erica chuckled,"But I do like drawing."
"Then we can draw." Cedric nodded, "I'm no artist myself but I can draw... Stick figures."
"I'm sure they're very nice stick figures." Erica told him.
"Oh, they are." Cedric laughed.
"Then let's get started." Erica smiled
Cedric handed Erica a piece of paper before he handed some pens.
"Thanks." Erica nodded, starting to sketch a dragon.
"What ya drawing?" Cedric looked over.
"Dragon." Erin continued drawing.
"What one?" He raised a brow.
"Romanian Longhorn." Erica told him.
"I can tell it's a favourite of yours." Cedric hummed.
"They're the reason the reservation Charlie works at exists." Erica informed him.
Cedric nodded slowly, "Aha, here. A stick man to ride your dragon."
"Hehe, thanks Ced." Erica smiled.
"Anytime." Cedric handed her the paper with a chuckle.
The pair then heard footsteps coming up the stairs. Cedric looked at his door to see who it was.
"Are you both in there?" Amos asked, knocking on the door.
"Yes dad." Cedric answered.
"Well, Erica's got to go home soon. Arthur and I have finished our work." Amos told them.
"We can come back another time if you'd both like." Arthur suggested.
"If that's alright with you." Erica turned to Cedric.
"Of course it is." Cedric nodded.
"Well, I guess I'll see you some other time?" Erica asked, getting up.
"See you." Cedric waved.
