62 - Jealousy

Cedar was sat at the Hufflepuff table with Phoenix. She was writing a little note for the girl she liked.

"Do you know if she likes girls?" Phoenix raised a brow.

"Well, I sure hope so." Cedar sighed.

"I hope so too." Phoenix nodded.

Cedar smiled and began to doodle little hearts in the corner of the note.

"Oh no." Phoenix looked up.

"What?" Cedar followed her gaze.

When the two looked up... They saw Matteo with his new girlfriend... The girl Cedar liked.

"Of course.." Cedar crumpled up the note in her hands,"I don't know why I try anymore."

"Do you want me to say something?"

"I do."

Phoenix got up, walking over to Matteo.

"Hey Nixie." Matteo hummed.

"Having fun?" Phoenix asked him.

"What do you mean?"

"Y'know, asking out another girl?"

"Yeah? She was single."

"Don't you remember me mentioning something about her?"

"No?.."

"No? Not me telling you earlier this week that one of your good friends also liked her?"

"Not really." Matteo shrugged.

"No? You don't remember me telling you how Ced liked her?" Phoenix crossed her arms.

"No, I don't... Cedar should've asked her out first if she liked her that bad." Matteo sighed.

"It's kind of hard to do that when you change partners so frequently. Nobody can keep track."

"What's that supposed to mean?" He blinked.

"That you're a man whore." Phoenix shrugged,"Bet you'd sleep with anything that has a pulse."

"A man whore?" He gasped.

"What? Gonna say you aren't?" Phoenix raised a brow.

"I'm not a man whore."

"Yes. Yes, you are. How many girlfriends have you had in the past month?"

"Four." Matteo hummed.

"Names?"

"There's... Julie... Jennifer, then... Elena.. And another one... I can't remember."

"See? You don't even remember all the people you've gone out with a month." Phoenix sighed,"And you've been at Hogwarts a bit longer than that."

"So?"

"Eh, in short, my point is that you're a selfish prick."

"Prick? Excuse you."

"Am I wrong?" Phoenix raised a brow.

"Not really."

"Good, I hope you decide to be more considerate in the future."

"I'm being considerate, it's not my fault Cedar didn't tell her."

"She barely had a chance to ask if she even liked girls."

"Well that's not my fault, Nixie." Matteo walked off.

"I hope she dumps you." Phoenix called after him.

Matteo held up his middle finger. Phoenix rolled her eyes. She didn't hate her cousin... But she really wanted to hit him hard. With a chair.

"What did he say?" Cedar walked over to her.

"He says that you 'should've asked her out first'." Phoenix sighed.

"Why doesn't he get that I'm scared?"

"He's a prick, Ced. He doesn't understand."

"I hate him sometimes." She cursed.

"I know you do."

"There will be other girls... Eventually." Cedar crossed her arms.

"There always will be." Phoenix assured her.

"I'm gonna go lay down in my room."

"You sure you'll be okay?"

"Yeah... I'll get over it." Cedar sighed.

"I'm always here." Phoenix told her.

"Thanks Nixie." Cedar smiled.

"No problem, Ced." Phoenix patted her back.

Cedar waved and ran off. Phoenix sighed and shook her head.

"So he dumped me." Matteo's recent ex sighed to Cedar.

"Oh, I'm sorry." Cedar shook her head,"It... Tends to happen. A lot."

"Yeah, last time I give him a chance." Ava shrugged.

"Well, let's stop thinking about him. You deserve way better than that prick."

"Thanks Cedar." She smiled.

"Hey, we're friends. It's what I do."

"I wonder who he'll get with next." Ava looked around.

"No doubt it'll be the next girl I show interest in." Cedar crossed her arms.

"Just don't let him know."

"I don't."

"How does he figure it out?" She raised a brow.

"I honestly don't think he cares." Cedar shook her head,"If I so much as mention a girl, he asks about her."

"So... Trick him. Say you like a boy."

"No shot he'd believe me." Cedar chuckled.

"You never know." She sighed.

"As much as I hate to admit it, I know him."

"I wish you didn't." Ava rolled her eyed.

"I want just one person to like me, just one.." Cedar looked down.

"There's gonna be someone, don't worry." Ava hugged her arm.

"Thanks Ava." Cedar leaned against her.

"Anytime Ced." She rubbed her back.

Cedar closed her eyes. This was... Nice. She liked feeling like this, feeling cared for, loved.

"I'm always here for you. Which is why... We need yo get to class."

Cedar sighed,"Fine."

"No skipping." She pointed.

"I won't skip."

"Promise me?"

"I promise." Cedar stood up.

"Okay, good. Come on." Ava took her hand and pulled her.

"Coming." Cedar chuckled.

During the next few days, Matteo had found another girl to date. Luckily, Cedar barely knew this one. She thought she was pretty but hadn't developed any feelings.

"Hi Cedar." A girl, Millie Mulligan, walked over.

She was a Ravenclaw in the year below. They had been friends for a while.

"Oh, Millie." Cedar smiled at her.

"You look bored."

"I am."

"Well... Is there something we could do?" Millie raised a brow.

"Is there anything you have in mind?" Cedar hummed.

"Nothing to do with studying."

"Oh, I like that."

Just as the two began to walk, Matteo walked up to the two.

"Hello." Matteo hummed.

"Theo, what's up?" Cedar asked.

"Just wanted to talk to your lady friend." Matteo turned towards Millie.

"Millie doesn't want to talk to you, actually." Cedar placed a hand on her shoulder.

"And why not?"

"Because I'm not interested... Sorry." Millie shrugged.

"Exactly, so bye bye." Cedar smiled.

"I can be better than my cousin." Matteo sighed.

"Matteo, you have taken every girl I have ever liked. You are not taking Millie." Cedar pointed.

"Plus, I'm not really into guys. I'm sorry." Millie shrugged.

"So as I said, bye bye."

Matteo looked between the two before he walked off, rolling his eyes.

"That was fun." Cedar smirked.

"Does he really try for everyone?" Millie looked at Cedar.

"Mhm, everyone."

"Well, not me." Millie smiled.

"Good." Cedar hummed.

"Now, let's go."

"Going." Cedar smiled, taking her hand.

Millie looked at Cedar, giving her hand a small squeeze and they walked.

Cedar was nervous as she stood holding a small bouquet of flowers. Shed never been able to do this before

She was finally going to ask Millie out, she couldn't control her feelings anymore. And on the plus side, there was no chance Matteo could steal her away.

"Cedar? Are you in here?" Millie called out from the door of the library.

"I-I'm in here." Cedar called back.

Millie walked to where Cedar was, l"I was surprised when I got your letter, thought we wouldn't sneak out in the middle of the night anymore?" She chuckled

"Well- This was important, okay?" Cedar turned to her, holding out the flowers.

"Flowers?" Millie raised a brow,"For me?"

"Yes because- Well, I need to ask you something."

"Ask away." Millie walked closer to her.

"Will... Will you be my girlfriend?" Cedar asked her.

"Cedar.." Millie smiled.

"Mhm..?" Cedar nodded slowly.

"Was that even a question you needed to ask?" Millie laughed,"Yes, of course."

Cedar blushed and quickly pulled Millie into a hug. Millie kissed Cedar's cheek as she hugged back.

"This is- Well, this has never happened before."

"Have you ever asked anyone out before?" Millie hummed.

"Of course I haven't." Cedar shook her head.

"Well, I'm glad you decided on me." She smiled.

"You were the only girl Matteo hasn't asked out yet."

"Because I'm a lesbian who wouldn't go with him." Millie chuckled.

"I don't know why anyone would." Cedar poked her.

"These flowers smell lovely, Ced." Millie looked at her.

"Thanks, my dad helped me with them." She smiled.

"Aw Cedar." Millie smiled back at her.

"I know, I'm a very romantic person."

Millie smiled and kissed her cheek again.
