Chapter 1 - A Bitter Start
It was the 1st of September. 10:59am, the train left in a minute. All the students began boarding the train. Most, going to their friends, others? Just trying to find a compartment.
Parker Malfoy was wondering along the Hogwarts Express, she had lost her brother so she was looking for him. She was looking out the window but was soon brought out her thoughts when she was knocked to the ground.
"Whoops, sorry about that!" A ginger girl exclaimed, holding out her hand to Parker.
Ginger? Her parents had told her about a specific ginger family. The Weasleys. Although, she didn't have a problem with them.
"It's perfectly fine. Don't worry. It's busy, could happen to any of us." The raven haired girl gave a small smile while she took the gingers hand.
"Oh, I'm Erica! What's your name?" Erica responded, helping up her new acquaintance.
"That's a lovely name. I'm Parker." Parker nodded, "I'm presuming you're first year too?"
Erica nodded, swaying side to side,"I've been looking for my brother but he left with his new friend that we helped onto the platform."
"Really?" Parker asked, tilting her head to the side, "Me too! My brother ran off, trying to find the best compartment for himself."
Parker then rolled her eyes. All of a sudden the train whistle sounded, causing Erica to jump as two ginger boys approached.
"You'd best get in a compartment, the train is about to start." One boy stated, ruffling Erica's hair.
Parker looked at both boys before back at Erica, "It was a pleasure meeting you, Erica. Have a nice ride, I'll see you at Hogwarts."
Parker smiled at Erica before she ran off.
"Fred~ That was my only friend." Erica whined, looking at her older brothers.
"Do you know who that girl was?" George asked his younger sister, knowing she probably didn't.
"That girl is the daughter of one of the most richest wizarding families. The Malfoys. Mum and Dad have both warned you about them." Fred pointed at her.
Erica rolled her eyes,"So? If she was like the rest of her family she would have spat in my face knowing I was a Weasley."
"Come on, you can sit with us and Lee Jordan." He put his arm around her shoulder and began leading her to their compartment.
That's when the three heard a voice, "My sister was just being kind, Weasley. She's not to be messed with."
Erica turned around about to say something but Fred stopped her.
"Well Malfoy jr, my sister shouldn't be messed with either. She can be deadly if she wants to." Fred replied, gaining a few looks from Erica.
Draco held back a laugh and scoffed, "A Weasley? Deadly? You must be out of your minds."
Fred went to say something else but Erica grabbed his ear like their mother did.
"Fred Weasley, I will not have you or George get into a fight before school has started especially against a first year. His father could buy our father and his whole team out of jobs so keep it zipped!" Erica ranted before letting go and walking towards Draco to see if she could sit with her other brother Percy.
"I would listen to her. She's just speaking the truth." Draco shrugged with a small smirk before he barged past the siblings.
"Bloody hell." Fred and George muttered.
Erica poked her head into a cabin and spotted Ron and his new friend sitting with a bunch of food.
"My bets are that you definitely didn't pay for this Ronald." Erica said jokingly, poking fun at her slightly older brother.
"Oh I didn't." Ron spoke with the chocolate frog in his mouth, "Harry did."
"Harry?" Erica questioned, looking at her brother's friend and hoping he'd give her a second name.
She was hopeless when it came to remembering things and recognizing people.
"Potter. Harry Potter." Harry held out his hand for Erica to shake.
Erica shook his hand, nodding as she racked her brain for the name 'Potter'.
"He has the scar and everything!" Ron pointed out, shoving something else into his mouth.
Erica cringed before crossing her arms,"Ron! Don't talk with your mouth full."
Harry laughed slightly at the siblings, this was all knew to him, but he could tell that these guys were going to be good friends. Soon, they were walking into the castle together. Erica tripped over her feet and bumped into Draco, falling to the floor
Draco scoffed when he walked back to see who haf bumped into him, "You again?"
"What does he mean again, Erica?" Ron asked, quite confused.
"Oh, we had a 'pleasant' conversation a few minutes ago." Erica said sweetly, wanting desperately to leave the situation as she stood up.
"Let me guess, your brother? Of course he is, the hand me down robes and red hair. Obviously a Weasley." Draco rolled his eyes. "Potter, you'll soon find out that some wizarding familes are better than... Others."
Erica was speechless, the gears in her brain had almost stopped turning as he tried to process what Draco had said.
Draco held out his hand to Harry, "I can help you."
"I think I can tell the right sort for myself, thank you." Harry stated, swatting away Draco's hand.
That's when Mcgonagall came up to Draco and tapped him, causing him to move away. Out the corner of Erica's eye, she could see Parker, holding back her laugh at Draco's denial from Harry. Erica waved lightly at Parker, hoping her friend would see her.
After a few seconds, Parker noticed Erica, she waved back with a small smile.
"Alright students, you are about to be sorted into one of the four houses." McGonagall announced,"Those being Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin."
Everybody looked around excitedly, wondering what house they'd be in and who they'd be friends with.
"If you'd follow me." McGonagall opened the doors and walked into The Great Hall.
All of the tweens followed in awe, they had never seen anything like this before.
"Look at the ceiling, it's enchanted to look like the night sky. I read about it in Hogwarts: A history." A curly haired girl stated.
"Now, before we begin. Professor Dumbledore would like to say a few things." Mcgonagall stated while she stepped up to the sorting hat.
All students looked up at the teacher's table at the very front of the hall. A tall man with a long grey beard stepped forward to a golden podium.
"I would first of all love to welcome all of you to Hogwarts and welcome back our Defence Against the Dark Arts professor, Professor Quirell." Professor Dumbledore began, looking down at his students.
Professor Dumbledore then went on about some restrictions. Not going into the Dark Forest, not going to the door at the end of the 3rd floor corridor unless we wished to die a most painful death. Hopefully that won't be happening any time soon.. Eventually he stopped and sat back down.
"When I call your name, you shall come forth, I shall place the sorting hat on your head. And you will be sorted into your house." Mcgonagall informed the students while she lifted up The Sorting Hat. Erica began biting her nails as Professor McGonagall took out a long sheet of parchment. One by one most of the students had been called out until...
"Erica Weasley." Mcgonagall called out, looking up from the parchment.
Erica stepped up to the hat and sat down as the hat was placed on her head.
"Y'know, you may be a Weasley but I just don't see Gryffindor in you... Hufflepuff!
Erica got up and began walking to the Hufflepuff table as a few people clapped. Her brothers were.. Confused, they were sure Erica was going to be in Gryffindor.
"Welcome to Hufflepuff, Erica." Susan Boyle, a fellow first year greeted her.
Erica smiled, even though she wasn't where her family thought she'd be, she was just happy to be at Hogwarts.
"I think we're all going to get along." Erica said smiling.
"Parker Malfoy." McGonagall called out at the last name.
Parker looked at McGonagall before she stepped up to the hat and sat down while it was placed on her head.
"Hm.. This is new. The last kind I had of you was.. Interesting. Better be.. Slytherin!"
Parker smiled while she stood up and went over to the Slytherin table. Erica clapped for her friend, happy that she was happy.
"Now, the feast!" McGonagall clapped and food filled the tables.
Everyone watched in amazement as food appeared form seemingly nowhere before starting to eat. After a while into the feast, Erica felt someone sit next to her. "Your food looks so much better than our table."
It was her friend, Parker.
"Well, from what I've heard, Helga Hufflepuff was known for her food charms. Besides, the Hufflepuff common room is right next to the kitchen!" Erica explained.
"You got lucky." Parker laughed, "Why do you think you got Hufflepuff instead of Gryffindor?"
"Quite a few reasons, I believe. I'm get easily scared and I have no clue what chivalry is. I think I aligned more with Hufflepuff." Erica ranted, she seems to do this a lot.
"I like you." Parker smiled tilting her head, "You talk a lot. It's fun to hear it."
Parker acted like she had never met someone who 'talked a lot'.
"I d-" Erica began before realising the statement was definitely true,"Yeah, it's like a switch. Once I start I just keep on going."
Parker hummed while she took a drink of the water, "I'm sorry for my brother earlier, by the way."
"It's fine, one of my brother's is a total p-" Erica stopped herself as he walked over.
The boy sighed as he patted her on the shoulder before walking back to the Gryffindor table.
"Prick." Erica finished, looking over at him.
"I can tell we're going to be good friends." Parker nudged Erica with a small smile.
Erica smiled as she heard loud voices from the other end of the hall.
"That's the Slytherin's being lead to their dorm, you better hurry before Snako finds out you've been talking to me." Erica pointed out, saying the ending quite dramatically.
Parker laughed at Erica while she looked at the Slytherins being lead away.
"I'll see you tomorrow?" Parker asked her friend.
"Depending on the class, yes." Erica confirmed as her prefect walked over,"Bye!"
"Bye Erica!" Parker waved before she snuck back over to the Slytherin side and followed them out.
Erica did the same with her prefect following all the way to her dorm.
**
"Come on Erica, we're going to be late." Parker pulled her friend along the corridor.
"But we're going the wrong way, transfiguration is on the second floor." Erica reminded her friend.
"This is a shortcut." Parker shrugged, she didn't know if it was or not.
While they were walking up a staircase, it began to move.
"Well fuck me gently with a chainsaw, we're definitely going to be late now!" Erica shouted, holding onto the banister for dear life.
"That's a weird reference!" Parker yelped as the stairs stopped.
She quickly grabbed Erica's hand and pulled her up the stairs.
"So? I make references when I'm nervous!" Erica retorted as they arrived at a large door.
Parker opened the door and walked in, the door slamming behind them.
"Uh, I get that this is a magic school but why did the door slam behind us?" Erica asked,"Also if this is class, why can't I see?!"
The next thing the girls knew, a small fire came from a torch, lighting up the room and revealing what hallway they were in.
"This is the 3rd floor!" Parker realised.
Erica let out a yell of frustration before taking a breath,"Right, we just have to remain calm."
The girls then heard a small meow from below them while they looked around.
Erica looked around,"Kitty?"
Parker quickly slapped Erica's arm while she stepped back.
"Ow, what was that for?!" Erica whisper shouted, rubbing her arm.
"That's Mrs Norris, Filchs cat!" Parker replied in a whisper before she pushed the door open and started running.
"Cats can see in the dark, she'll know it's us!" Erin informed her friend, running after her.
"So we go behind this bloody door!" Parker tried to open the door but it was locked.
Erica pushed her friend to the side as she took out her wand,"Allow me. Alohamora!"
Parker quickly pushed open the door and the two ran in, closing it behind them.
Erica put her wand away and sighed,"I mean, being late to our last class isn't that bad.
"..Holy shit.." Parker stopped in her tracks.
Erica looked at her friend, a bit confused,"Was it something I said?"
Parker slowly pointed to the 3 headed dog infront of them.
Erica looked in front of her, standing perfectly still,"Any last words?"
