Chapter Three: Take Down

An hour had gone by, I didn't notice it was dark outside until I sat at the fire place, with a book - which wasn't my spell book - to read and relax. Suddenly, the lights went out in the room, making me groan in frustration as this is never a good sign.

"Main power interrupted," the automated voice states. "Auxiliary power engaged," the only main source of light was coming from the fire place, and the orange colour lights that came on from the back up power. I see Gar and Dick come up to the window, staring out of it.

"The city's blacking out," Gar began, making me shut the book and stand to my feet, gazing out of the window.

"It's Dr. Light. He's redirecting the energy," Dick began as lights within San Francisco was going out. "Looking for a light delivery system to refuel," whole of San-Fran was out, but in the distance the stadium began to light up.

"How about a stadium?" Gar asks Dick, but he didn't answer as he rushes off to find the others. Gar took his gaze to look at me, I offered a small smile. When Dick wasn't in charge I was, but I was always the caring one in the group.

"Go to your room," I told him in a gentle tone, as he nodded his head. Gar wonders off back to his bedroom as I came down the steps, coming into the middle of the room. I paced around the room for about five minutes.

"Lit up five minutes ago. He's gonna use the stadium to recharge," Dick spoke coming from the right of me, making me stop and look at them.

"He's a grandiose motherfucker, isn't he?" Hank spoke, being himself.

"It's a challenge," Dawn counters.

"Or a trap," Donna said, both making a valid point of them all. It could be either one of them.

"What he doesn't know is that we're all here. He's asking for a party of one," Dick comes to a halt in the middle of the room, turning back to face the rest.

"Well, let's give him a party of four," Hank was all cocky, as he thinks that this would work. I came a couple steps forward standing next to Dick.

"You want help? My force-fields might be the best bet," I told him, but he gives me a look, a look of appreciation but he also didn't want me help with this mission.

"We'll be fine," he replies making me sigh, but it was his call and I wasn't going to argue with him.

"What, we're on the move?" Jason's voice boomed behind Dick and I, making me roll my eyes at him, but he was dressed in his Robin suit.

"Yeah, to Omaha. We'll drop you off at the bus station," Hank said jokingly to Jason.

"This doesn't have anything to do with you. We'll handle it," Dick said, nodding his head to the rest.

"Look, I didn't come here to empty the dishwasher. At least let me run interference or something," Jason begged in a way his eyes flickering between Dick and the rest.

"Not this time," Dick made the call, as Donna, Hank, and Dawn all headed to the elevator.

"I can help. I'll do whatever you say, but don't leave me behind, man," Jason pleaded with Dick, but he wasn't going to change his mind about this.

"You'll get your time. Not tonight," Dick said to him before moving down the little hallway to the elevator. Once inside they close and the blue light that came from the elevator vanished.

"Custom Friday?" Rose's voice came into the room, making me look at her, she was leaning against the frame of an arch way. Her eyes on Jason, but he sighs before walking away back the way he came, leaving Rose and I alone. "So, I hear you turn invisible... Neat," she states impressed with my power of invisibility.

"Yeah, I guess," I replied back to her, crossing my arms over my chest. "Do you need something?" I raised the question, but she shook her head at me.

"Nah, just chit-chatting. Seems to be drama around every corner," she replies, making me raise an eyebrow up at her. "It's not hard to tell," she went on, as she stops leaning and came a few steps forward.

"Everyone has drama," I countered her comment. "Some people deal with it in different ways... Now if you excuse me, I have a book to read," I told her in a polite way as I could, but she got the hint and turns to leave. "Nice meeting you Rose," I said, making her stop in her tracks, cocking her head around to look at me.

"You too, Vanessa," she states, cocking a smug grin before walking away. Rose had a sense of sass to her, making her quite fun to be around, you don't know what to expect next from her. She reminds me of Jason a bit...

***

Some time had passed and the main power came back on, lighting up the place. I sat at the island counter on a stool, waiting for the return of the others. Within moments, I hear the elevator ding open and rushed footsteps.

"I'll get some gauze from the infirmary," Donna states, making stand from the stool and headed over to the middle.

"What happened?" I ask, as Dawn and Hank came into view. Hank had a burn on his leg, his jeans ripped as Dawn carried half of his weight. But no one answered me, Hank and Dawn hobbled away, but stopped as Hank turned around to face Dick.

"You had a chance," Hank said.

"He would've killed everyone on the bus," Dick replied in a hush tone.

"And he's gonna kill how many more now?" Hank replied, clearly Dr. Light got away, but Dick saved lives tonight.

"I'll get him," he went on, determined to catch Dr. Light again and for good this time.

"Maybe you've lost the taste for how this works," Hank raises his voice slightly, taking a few steps forward.

"We'll get another shot," Dick also raised his voice at Hank, things we're getting pretty heated at this moment in time.

"The old Robin would've taken the first one," Hank sort of lunges at Dick, but Dawn steps in the way, placing a hand on Hank's chest, trying to calm him down.

"Hank. Hey," Dawn moves her hand to his face, forcing his head to turn to look at her. "Hey. That's enough," she spoke softly to him. Hank turns his gaze back to Dick for a moment, before Dawn and him hobble away to the medic room.

"I'm sorry, Dick," I came up to him, offering a thin smile feeling sorry for him.

"Where's Dr. Light?" Jason's voice rang out in a mocking tone, but this wasn't the time for that.

"Jason," Rachel gave him a warning, not to push him.

"Little stealth job on a guy who shoots, what, head lamps?" He began, as the three teens came our way. "I mean, half the city's on fire and still no sign of Dr. Light," Jason was pushing Dick's buttons and it was showing.

"Not the time, Jason," Dick warns him, but he takes a large step to come inches from Dick's face.

"Look, I don't take orders from you anymore, man. I don what I want, when I want," Jason told him, but Dick didn't want to argue at this moment in time. Dick tries to leave this conversation, but Jason stops him by putting a hand on his chest.

"Get out of my way," Dick states in a deep angry tone.

"I think you got it all wrong... You're in my way," Jason bangs on Dick's chest trying to make him angry and the state he's in, it won't take much. "Maybe you need to see a retirement package, huh?" Jason shot at him, before turning to his side, looking at the others, but I see he puts his hand into a fist.

"Don't," Dick warns him, but he doesn't listen. He tries to punch Dick, but he got the speed to grab Jason by the head, and threw him to the ground, like hard.

Jason grunts and stays on the ground for a moment. But in a way it's what he deserves right now. "Shit... Here," Dick states, knowing that he did wrong and a bit too hard. He offers his hand out to Jason, who just looks at it then Dick. But he slaps his hand away and stands to his feet, but he takes a few shaky breathes as he stares at Dick. Before barging pass Dick and off he went, God knows where. I took a deep breath, before wondering off to the fireplace, sitting on the steps, feeling the heat on my back.

I had a deep feeling in my gut that something wasn't right and this just was the start of something bad...
