Chapter Thirteen: Jericho
I kept an eye on Jericho, Dawn and Dick had told him who they truly were and what the others were. They also told him the truth about his dad, what he really was. A killer, and that he killed their friend... Cards on the table, no more lying to him...
I walk along the pathway of San Francisco, my eyes in front to see people passing. I needed some fresh air and recharge myself as staying invisible for too long makes me feel weird about myself. I sip the warm coffee from the cup, luckily I had some money in my jeans for one. The warm liquid runs down my throat, warming me up. I lowered the cup from my lips, and continued down the pathway. A sudden bang came from the side of me, making me cock my head to the side, but it was only a person who dropped a crate onto the floor. I turn my head back around just in time to collide with someone, making the coffee cup tip up and be split all over my chest and down my breasts. An few 'ah' and mumbled swear words escaped my lips as the coffee was hot but not boiling. I dropped the coffee cup to the floor in shock, and pulled my light blue shirt from my body, trying to stop the coffee from staining. My eyes wondered from my top to see no other than Jericho, signing at me telling me that he was sorry.
"It's all right," I told him, giving him a soft smile, but he looked anxious about something besides bumping into me. "I'm-" I stopped myself before I could spill my real name. "I'm Bonnie," I held out my hand to him to make him shake it. He didn't deny it and struck his hand into mine as we shook for a few seconds, he offering a warm smile. We broke from the hand-shake and began to sign at me, which was his name. "Nice to meet you Jericho," I spoke, as his eyes seemed to lit up in surprise as I clearly understood him. I began to sign back at him, saying: 'I can understand you,' with the right hand-movements and signs. He began to sign back to me, he was offering to take me back to his place to get a change of clothing. "That would be nice thank you," I was taking a huge fucking risk here, I couldn't use my powers around them now and this was going to be weird as fuck...
......................
We arrived at the tower, it felt so weird being at the tower in another point in time, it was so strange. The elevator doors open as we both walk out, as Jericho clung to his backpack as he enter the main area of the tower. Luckily, no one was here in the area, but Jericho went over to the kitchen and grabbed a towel from there. I came to a halt at the island and stood in front of the middle stool. Jericho comes back around and holds the towel for me.
"Thank you," I told him, as I grab the towel from him, as I began to pat my chest, and my top which now had brown coffee stains. I cock my gaze back up to met Jericho who was signing to me that he was sorry for bumping into me and ruining my outfit. "Hey, I'm fine. You don't need to apologise," I gave him a warm smile as he seemed to relax and offer a cheeky smile back.
"Jericho?!" Dawn's voice echoed from behind me, making me spin around to see her standing there. "Who's this?" She asks softly, before he began to sign at her, telling her that he bumped into me in the street and spilled my coffee all over me. So he brought me here to clean up. I let him finish as Dawn's eyes connected to mine.
"Hey, I'm Bonnie, nice to meet you," I wave my hand to her as she offers me a warm smile.
"I'm Dawn," she replies, but Jericho began to sign to her, but I had missed out the first few signs, something to do with he wanted to talk to her. She nodded her head to Jericho before he moves forward. "Sit by the fire, it will make you dry quicker," she had told me as I nodded my head. Both of them left the room, leaving me alone to my own thoughts...
"Shit," I mumble under my breath as this was bad, this was very bad. But if I run it will make me look guilty of something and if I stay, I don't know what would happen. But deep down I was willing to take that chance...
************
Time had passed, night was now upon us, Jericho had returned back to the living room as Dawn wasn't with him. I was sat on an angle, on the edge of the fireplace, feeling the warmth hitting the side of me.
"You look a little sad," I state to Jericho who turns to face me, before coming over to the fireplace and takes a seat in front of me. Jericho began to sign, telling me that he had some family issue, mostly about his father. "Sorry to hear that. I know families are hard," I told him, giving him a sad expression. "About three months ago, I found out that my parents weren't my parents," I told him the truth, though it's five-years from now in the future, but I wanted to be honest with him. He began signing to me once again, asking if I knew who my true parents were. I shook my head softly to him as he lowered his hands. "Never met them, and I don't think I ever will," my voice cracked slightly as it was low, my eyes began to water with the memory of never meeting my true parents, but I held back the tears as I didn't want to cry. "Every family has a fucked up secret, right?" I told him, offering a thin smile as he nodded his head, agreeing with my statement.
Footsteps entered my ears, making me cock my gaze up to see Dick coming forward, standing to the side of Jericho. My eyes lingered on him, his eyes brush mine just for a moment, not giving me a second look as he had no clue who I was. Dick had his hands in his jean pockets, his gaze on Jericho.
"Hey. I think you should go see your dad," Dick spoke to Jericho, as I minded my own business but kept an ear on the conversation. "I'll stay out of it," out of the corner of my eye I see Jericho say thank you through signing to him, before standing to his feet and going down a step to get to Dick's level. Jericho leans in and hugs Dick.
I watch this sweet exchange happen, Dick took a second to hug back Jericho. Though the hug wasn't long, however, I could tell that it was meaningful one. Jericho breaks from the hug and walks away form Dick, his gaze followed him for a moment before he left his sights. Dick turns back around now looking to me.
"Hey, I'm Bonnie," I introduced myself while raising from the edge of the fireplace. "Thank you for your hospitality," I spoke to Dick, who offers me a small smile.
"I'm Dick, nice to meet you," he offers his hand out to me and I gladly accepted it, shaking his hand softly, before breaking apart after a moment. "I heard what happen, I hope you haven't burnt yourself badly," he went on, making me shake my head and chuckle at his response.
"Jericho is a sweet, kind kid. He apologised to me enough," I told him as he stuffs his hands back into his pockets. "I might not know a lot about you people, but I can see that you care for him," I smiled at him, as he offers me one back. "Again thank you, but I better go," I told him as he nodded his head swiftly to me. I step down from the steps from the couch area, and walk across to the elevator. I feel Dick follow me all the way to the elevator. The doors open and I step inside as Dick looks to me, I smile to him, the doors began to close.
"Bye," I wave my hand up to him as the doors closed, but he saw just in time. My smile faded as a gloomy expression came to my face, knowing what was about to happen, I could stop it all, but time must be kept as it is. I'm no expert in time travel but messing up the timeline would be bad for all of us...
I think coming into the past was a big mistake. Sometimes some secrets are better stayed buried...
