Chapter Eight: Contained

Rachel, Gar and I, did what we was told and protected the tower and Rose, though nothing bad was going to happen. About an hour later I heard from Kory that they saved Jason, but she also told me to prep the medical bed as they had an injured kid who caught Jason from falling. I didn't question it and set up the medical bed, just in time for Kory and Dick had entered with a young man, he wore a superman shirt, but we got him onto the bed and cut off his shirt, seeing two bullet wounds. Dawn had came to lend her hand and we didn't waste anytime. I placed pads onto his chest to monitor his vitals, while Dawn cleaned up the wounds and put bandages on him. Luckily, the guy became stable, but what he was shot with left a sort of toxin in his body, that was spreading through his body.

"Get Dick," I look over to Dawn as she nods, going out of the medical room, off to find Dick. I took a deep breath as I crossed my arms over my chest, looking at the boy laid unconscious on the bed. "I hope he pulls through this," I spoke aloud, my gaze going to look to Kory as she wonders the same thing.

"Is he stable?" Dick's voice glided through the air, making me turn to look at the door to see him enter. Dick had a cut on his lip and some bruising on his right eyebrow and cheek.

"For the moment," Dawn replied, coming to stand to the right of me. "Whatever they shot him with left something behind. Some sort of toxin," Dawn explained to Dick.

"Maybe we should take him to a hospital," Dick replies, making me look at him in a weird way.

"The boy has special abilities," Kory counters.

"Yeah, I think he's safest here," Dawn spoke, her eyes flicked back to Dick.

"Ok," Dick states his head turning to look at the boy on the bed.

"And I think you should call Bruce. He catalogues these things. He might know who he is," Dawn states to Dick, making him cock his head back to her. However, Dick just stands there thinking on what to do, but he was taking his time, which was odd for him.

"Dick?" My voice soared through his ears, making him look back up to me.

"I'll call Bruce," he said, making me nod his head at him.

"Good. You check on Jason?" Dawn asks him, wondering if he had a chance to see if Jason was doing alright. I felt bad for the kid.

"On my way," he replies, turning around leaving the room. There was something off with him, he seems more distant than normal and it didn't sit well with me.

"Oh, idea," I spoke out of no where as an idea just popped into my head. Dawn and Kory turned their gazes to me waiting for me to answer. "How about I heal him?" I state my eyes wondering to the boy and back to the girls.

"You can heal people?" Dawn sounded quite unsure of that, making me raise an eyebrow to her.

"I believe so," I replied as I moved up the line, Kory took note and moved to where I was standing. I extended both my hands over the wounds on the boys check, and took a deep breath, focusing on healing. Just then, my hands began to glow a pink colour, like they had an aura around them but the glow cut off at my wrists. I began to slowly lower my glowing hands to the bandages, once they connected, I felt a sudden rush flow through me like energy. My hands began to dim and his torso with the bullet wounds began to glow like the aura was seeping into him. Within seconds, my hands lost their glow, but the boys torso was glowing around the bullet wounds. We all watched for a moment, but the glow began to fade until it was gone, like a light. I lifted one of the bandages up to see if the wounds were healed, but once I peeked under, the wounds were still there, meaning it didn't work.

"That was anticlimactic," Kory mocks, making me shoot my head to her, giving her a disapproved look. She gives me a sorry expression.

"It should have worked," I countered, as it should have because it felt like it should have done. "Guess we'll just have to have faith he'll pull through," I told the others, as they offered me a nod and a smile. I turn around and exited the medical room, hoping that this boy would pull through...

..........................

The next morning had approached and I was hopeful for this day, that this would be a new day for bright things. I had changed into an outfit, the skirt was so cute, the black pumps on the other hand, wasn't. But they was just in case I had to do some running...

I stood in front of Jason's bedroom door, knocking swiftly. I wanted to see how he was doing, I know Dick had a talk to him, but I wanted to see if he was alright. Within moments, I hear him shuffle around the room, his footsteps growing louder as he came to the door. The door swings open and Jason looks at me with a sort of blank expression.

"Hey, I was just checking up on you. Are you ok?" I ask him, offering a warm but thin smile.

"Yeah, fine," he replied no expression in his tone of voice. "Bye," he states, closing the door on me, but I put my feet in-between, the door hitting my foot.

"You're not fine, Jason," I was direct with him. "I know you're not," I went on, but he didn't seem bothered about my attempt to help him out.

"What do you know? Huh?" He states in a defence tone, making me raise an eyebrow to him. "You have no fucking idea what I've been through or what my life has been like. You're just a fucking freak like the rest of them. Turn invisible and stay that way," he raises his voice at me and then slams the door in my face, luckily for me I had moved my foot. I was stood there totally stunned, with the words that left his mouth. The waterworks began to flare up, my vision began to become blurry with the tears, but I held them back, shaking my head.

I turned and walked across to the medical room, Kory wasn't in the room and the boy was left alone. I took a sigh, and came around to the side of the bed, staring down at the boy.

"I wish I could have helped you," I spoke softly to him, maybe he could hear me, maybe he couldn't, but I still felt down about not helping him. I reached out and took his hand into mine, his skin smooth, like ridiculously smooth... What skin routine does he do... Suddenly, Kory enters the room with blonde haired woman, who I have no idea who she is.

"This is Eve," Kory states, as she comes to the other side of the bed and sits on it, eyeing up the boy having a horrid expression on her, feeling bad for the boy. "Who is he?" Kory states as she wanted to know and as did I. Eve took her gaze away from the boy and to us, and began to explain to us who the boy was...

About after five-minutes of explaining to us who Conner was, which he was half-Kryptonian and half-human, and she was the one that created him with the two sets of DNA. I was totally gob-smacked right now.

"I'm so sorry," she states to Conner, as she had a hand on his.

"Save the apologies. Can you help him?" Kory cuts in, because she created him, maybe she could help him.

"Maybe if I'd gotten here sooner, but... The kryptonite poisoning has gone too far," Eve spoke in upset tone.

"Seriously? Is that the best you've got?" Kory snaps at her, because she didn't want to see Conner die.

"I am a scientist. I'm not God," Eve got up from the bed and spun around to face us.

"You just told us you created him. You're the closest thing to God he has," I announce to her, her teary eyes connected to mine.

"Half of his DNA is from a guy that lifts skyscrapers, and flies faster than the speed of light. At least fucking try," Kory had added into the mix, but she was right like she always is.

"It's not about speed or strength, ok?" Eve snaps at us. "In order to save him, we would need a level of radiation that can't be found on this Earth. We would need to fly him to the sun, and we don't have time for that," she was a dramatic one. "By now, in order to heal him, we would need to bring the sun here," she went on, but out of the corner of my eye, I see Kory begin to smile as she was the sun that he needed.

"Well, why didn't you say so?" Kory spoke through her smile. Kory turns to face me, her smile fading. "I need you and Rachel," she told me and I nodded my head to her. I came out of the medical room and wondered to the kitchen as Rachel was currently there, as I entered I see her making some coffee at the island, as it looked like she had just woken up.

"Rachel, no time for coffee," I told her, as I come around grabbing her by the shoulders and swiftly walking back to the medical bay.

"What's going on?" She asks in a droopy tone.

"We're going to save a boys life," I told her just in time as we got into the room. Kory was now standing up with Conner in her hands, as they were both in the middle of the room. I let go of Rachel and turned to look at Eve, and a dog at the foot of the bed. "Might want to leave the room with the dog," I state to her, but in a serious tone as she nodded. They both exited the room but the door was left open so she could see.

"All right, Eve. Stay back. This may get a little crazy," Kory told her, taking a deep breath, holding onto Conner tight. "You ready?" She asks us, as I stood at a meter away from Rachel, my eyes direction upon Kory.

"Uh... I hope so," Rachel states in a tired tone.

"Rachel?" I spoke in a harsh but caring tone, my eyes cocking over to her.

"Yeah. Obviously, I am fully confident," she woke up a bit, and was ready to go.

"Just contain me," Kory said, I nodded my head at her. "Let's do it," Kory was ready to go and was preparing herself for this. I raised both my hands and a pink energy came to them, swirling around my finger tips but I jolted my hands forward slightly. The energy leapt from my finger tips too the ceiling, it created a circle above Kory and Conner. Suddenly, a circle barrier made from pink energy came down, hitting the floor, it looked like they were in a tube and was contained. But because Kory might burn through my shields, Rachel was going to use hers power to contain it some more. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Rachel extend her arms out as her blackness began to leap from her body and around my barrier as Kory began to use her powers to radiate sunlight. I concentrated on keeping the barrier up my hands shaking with the amount heat that was being produced. I could barely see the two inside due to Rachel's power and the flames. They looked like one giant fireball...

Moments passed, and the blackness began to reduce and go back into Rachel, and the flames and the light came down as well. I dropped my hands once the fire had gone out, the barrier no longer there, disappeared into thin air. Conner began to move, and lift up, his gaze on Kory.

"Well, hello there," Kory states looking at Conner, making me smile as we actually healed him.I could see that his arse was on show, but I forced myself not to look below. Conner turns his head to face us, his eyes were on Rachel for a moment before they cocked to me.

"Hi," I said, waving out my hand to him. I felt a lot better knowing that we saved a life, we worked together to save Conner's life and that felt pretty fucking great...
