Whisked Away

Yes, another oneshot is FINALLY here- after like, 320945290 years...

Anyways, that doesn't stop it from being content. As I'm writing this author's note (which i have a bad habit of writing before i make the actual oneshot) I'm still thinking about how I should start the oneshot- help-

But I think I got it down now, and if it looks like I don't then you know why. This is set in US! AU this time, in US! Nachi's POV. I promise it'll be much more dramatic than the semi-introductory oneshot before this one so like- even though it still doesn't hit my "pure dramatic scenario" mark, it's still a vital bit of lore!

     With that said, enjoy!

Cake mix... cake mix... where the hell is the cake mix?!

They had been planning to make cake today for a long time- any cake, whether it be confetti or vanilla or chocolate, even whatever yellow cake was... and now, Nachi realized that they didn't have the cake mix. They'd gotten everything before, whatever they could need they got and seemed to be overprepared by now.

All except for the cake mix, and both of them had forgotten. It had slipped their minds and Nachi didn't know how neither of them had thought of it.

The cake had been CS's idea, when they were walking down the street and saw a a kid's birthday party at a park- it wasn't that big, only a few of his friends and him tackling each other, but the first thing that had caught CS's eye was the unopened cake container that was sitting on the table. She'd tugged at Nachi's sleeve, suddenly spouting a stream of ideas on how they could possibly steal the cake- first, Nachi made her take her sanity pills again once they were back at home, then they'd planned on how to bake a cake instead of stealing it.

I wonder if CS remembered her pills today as well, she's been forgetting a lot- consciously ignoring them too, even...

Nachi shook the thoughts out of his head, instead looking around from her standpoint to try and find the aisle the cake mix was at- that was, until he realized that she was in the entirely wrong section.

Fuck, he thought mindlessly as she moved through the store, finally locating the cake mix. Nachi swiped one off the shelf, checking to see which one she got as he walked down the aisle- confetti, not bad. Definitely something CS's overenergetic head would enjoy.

She found her way to the self-checkout, quickly swiping through, and barely stuffing the cake mix box into the plastic bag before he made her way out of the doors. Nachi dug his keys out of her pocket, finding the car keys and hitting a button- a small yet vibrant beep came from his left, and she found his way to the familiar maroon car and slid in.

Nachi didn't like driving- at all- the only reason why she'd gotten a license was so that he wouldn't have to rely on her bike, though the bike seemed indefinitely favorable. It'd been worn down over the years over how much she'd been using it, and currently had a flat tire- that was the only reason why he was driving today. CS had let her borrow the car, though "if he crashed it then it WOULD be her fault," which made sense but was still awfully annoying for Nachi to hear.

A green light Nachi was going to pass turned to yellow, and she slowly pressed down on the brakes. A pair of black, official looking cars came to a stop next to her, and when she looked over the drivers and passengers were all in what looked like official military uniforms- just a bit more formal than the average army member. There seemed to be a blacked out area in the back of each, and despite having the physical appearance of two entirely different shapes the cars seemed to come as a pair. It looked somewhat comedic, and Nachi noticed he wasn't the only one staring.

Wonder what that's for, Nachi thought, but she took his mind off the topic as the light flashed back to a green. Pressing on the gas pedal, the car slowly rumbled up and started moving forwards again, back on track on a surprisingly familiar route Nachi didn't realize she'd known so well.

He glanced to her left, flipping on the turn signal to shift lanes, and the black cars she'd previously seen slowed down to let him pass. They're still here, she thought as he accelerated a little and moved into the lane. Not long after, she found the entrance to his apartment parking lot, and turned in.

Nachi looked into the rear view mirror, and the black cars turned in with her. A slight chill went down his spine, but she figured that it was for someone else in the apartment complex. After all, there were at least 25 other residents- the apartment was well over five floors, and Nachi only knew because he lived on the sixth. She figured that there was nothing to worry about, especially since it wasn't like him or CS had done something blatantly illegal.

Well, except for CS skipping on her sanity pill dosages, but how would they be able to tell? Nachi was also pretty sure that the two of them were still sane enough anyways, so even if they did check life would go as normal. Right?

Nachi's thoughts were brought to a stop when she reached the front door, fumbling around for his keys and unlocking it. CS seemed to be talking to someone- that is, until the doorknob clicked. Nachi heard a phone slam on a desk and a hurried fall of a chair immediately followed with a "what the hell am I doing?"

"Seriously, CS, you're worried about me crashing the car," Nachi muttered. "Look at you!"

"I might just be better at driving than you are, even if I knock down stools when I get off of them- plus, in my defense, these IKEA stools are rickety," CS groaned in defense. She opened her mouth to argue some more until Nachi held up the Walmart bag.

"Guess what I finally got, though," Nachi said, and the two of them basically forgot about the stool. They'd finally gotten everything to make a cake with- however rushed, but still.

"Okay- okay! So, uh, what does the batter say we need?" CS hopped off of her stool, somehow locating a large bowl and a cake pan within seconds. "Uh, we already have eggs, water, vanilla, butter, milk... wait, you aren't lactose intolerant, are you?"

"Nope," Nachi replied, checking the side of the box. "So take the milk out, get the measuring cups as well... here, read it."

"A cup of milk, two large eggs... alright, got it!" CS managed to dump the entire bag of cake mix into the bowl within seconds, creating a small puff of powder as she threw the box and plastic bag into the trash can. "You measure out the milk, I'll get the eggs... oops- wait, no, it didn't crack all the way, it's fine I got it!"

"Dropping that egg on the floor might've given me one of the worst cases of anxiety I've ever experienced," Nachi quipped as she poured a cup of milk from the measuring cups. "Alright, put that in there, do you want to mix it?"

"GIVE ME THE SPATULA," CS replied, and Nachi tossed it in her direction. It wasn't more than five minutes later did CS start complaining about how sore her arm was, handing it over to Nachi who had a bit more arm strength at least. They eventually finished everything, delivered the cake into the oven, and set a timer for about twenty-five minutes.

"And now we wait!" CS exclaimed, dropping onto the sofa. "I- ooh, that smells good already..."

Nachi sat next to her, nudging her shoulder a bit. "You really have a sweet tooth, don't you?"

"No," CS replied simply. Then, after a pause, she spoke up again. "I'm kidding, do you see the amount of sugar I inhale every day?"

"Quite literally," Nachi snickered before she received a weak punch to his arm for her sarcasm. "Relax, I'm joking."

"Hmm," CS said before reaching for her phone- and the two of them ended up making fun of Minecraft videos until the timer beeped.

"Huh?" Nachi immediately said, before he remembered. "Oh, right, the ca-"

"Wait, no, that was the doorbell, not the timer," CS said. "But there's like- three seconds left, I'll get the cake out and you get the door, okay?"

"Mhm," Nachi muttered in reply, reaching for the doorknob as she walked over. "Hi, how can we help- oh."

CS had just turned the oven off and set the cake on the counter when the funky looking government officials stepped in- only, they didn't look quite as comedic now. There were three of them- one seemed to be a negotiator while the other two were armed, weapons somewhat glinting in the artificial lamplight. The door was slammed shut as Nachi stepped back, almost instinctively putting an arm in front of CS- not just as a warning for her not to step forward, but also as a somewhat protective measure.

"What are you doing here?" Nachi's voice seemed to take on a cold, unwavering tone she didn't even know he could do, and it almost scared herself with how stone-dry it sounded.

"We've noticed that there's been a lack of pill orders," one of the officials said, speaking up with an eerily deadpan feel cutting through the air. "Specifically, Coffeeshroom does Rand-"

"How'd they find our address?" CS muttered, but quickly put a hand over her mouth as she realized she wasn't supposed to talk.

"-Randoms, lacking a frequent number of pill bottle orders throughout these past two months," the officer continued. "A specialized version of benzo- ben- Diastat, used to control her serotonin's lethality when produced in large amounts."

"Benzodiazepines," Nachi groaned. CS had been lacking on her dosages of sanity pills, of course they'd use the order records to find out.

"We need to consult a quick test," the officer kept droning on, and one of the armed men behind him brought out a box. "It'll be quick, just a dosage on the medicine level in her bloodstream."

"No," Nachi immediately said. "I've heard about these so-called 'simple tests,' the side effects that come with them are disastrous, you can't-"

"It's either that or we take her directly to the lab if you don't want any side effects, and the sickness will fade within a week if she's stable," relentlessly interrupting, the officer took a step forward. "But if she's not stable, then that's how we know."

"You-" Nachi tried to argue, but as the official raised a hand one of the armed men stepped forward, knocking Nachi to the side and gripping CS by the arm. Roughly, it seemed, as CS let out a small whimper as she tried to shake her arm away but to no avail.

At first, Nachi was somewhat scared- then, some feral instincts she didn't know he had took over. For a second she thought there was a highly developed gun on a belt at his hip, but then she shook himself back to reality. Her next thought was to just attack- bare handed, gun or not.

So he did. She jumped at the agent who was currently grasping CS's neck, one hand punching the air out of his chest and the other closing around his throat, holding it into a grip tight clasp that had him trying to gasp for air. Nachi backed away a little, fingers finding the carotid arteries around his neck and pressing- he was almost passed out, she somehow just knew...

A gunshot sounded, and his right leg buckled- her hand closed around the agent's throat even tighter, and soon enough the agent had dropped, limp on the floor. Nachi grimaced in pain, visibly aware of the bullet that had gone through his shin, but she was still able to stand.

"You let go of her or we're not going without a fight," Nachi grumbled, teeth clenching in pain. CS, while looking somewhat terrified, had been smart enough to run back closer to where Nachi was.

"Sir-" the remaining agent started, but the officer waved a hand.

"If you're not going without a fight," he said, "then so be it."

Tranquilizer darts shot throughout the air, and Nachi had barely dragged CS to the floor to duck in time as they whizzed through the air. The crossfire ended in seconds, and Nachi took the chance to sneak his way towards the other two people- she'd brought the gun from the agent that had previously went limp, cocked it and aimed-

There was a bang that rang through the air, and the negotiation officer dropped dead on the floor, a bullet through his head and a trickle of blood running down his face. For a second, the other agent looked surprised- then, he stepped back as a second array of tranquilizer darts rang through the air. Nachi was in a little state of shock from having killed someone- a dart penetrated her neck, and his vision grew fuzzy. The last thing she saw was more agents coming in, taking away CS and kicking his body to the side. Nachi's eyes started to close as the door slammed shut, and a sinking feeling in her gut told him she was going to be alone for a long time.

"Oh, man, that must hurt," he thought she heard someone say- the last thing he saw was a pale boy, flaming red hair and contrasting cyan hoodie before an inky black took over her vision.

Back in the Regulars' universe, the Nachi residing there felt a sharp pain in his shin- just for a second, but life continued to normal after that.

     Almost.
