Character Synopsis

Adia Rayaline is a traumatized but brilliant scientist. She lives in fear of Emotion Detectors and worries that her lack of control over her emotions will bring disgrace to her family, and her young death. Ossy and Citstasia pretend to be her friend.

But, when Ryonne~ Of Ye~, a brilliant visiting scientist chooses her project to help for three weeks, she realizes that her department lead, Vonn Links, is on her side. So is his friend and fellow scientist, Derees Jons.

Ossy Koch and Citstasia Wilnes have been convincing her that Vonn, Derees and Tanda, her other co-workers, disapprove of her work and that they are her friends.

Conflict: They are dangerous adversaries, right there in her lab!

Suddenly, Adia realizes the truth.

Adia Rayaline, 18, is a Scientist from Bremen, Kleideu, Areon. She is unmarried with no children and has had a lot of education. She's been known to say "I am only a common scientist." She discovers that she has a device that can end the thirteen galaxy war, if she can only escape her fate. 5'8", thin, 135 pounds, long red hair curls on her shoulders

Adia is a genius, able to focus all energy on a single problem until it's solved. She is perceptive, intelligent, knowledgeable and very skillful in a few areas, confident anything is possible if she can focus all energy and concentrated thought on it. She's an expert in her field. This sub-type, however, is more internal, looking inward for answers, always deep in thought and not concerned with appearance - plain clothes, which conform to Areonian norms except for her pockets. The interesting aspect of Adia is that, although she is most comfortable in her own mind working on a problem, she is actually imaginative and charming to others. She has a quiet kind of charm that draws others to her. The Albert Einstein type.

Adia's character flaw is based on the incorrect belief that being self-sufficient will free her from needing things from others. She avoids intrusions and demands by others. During the story, she learns that the more self-sufficient she is, the less available to resources and nurturing from others she becomes.

When she's under pressure, she gets involved in rampant thoughts without following through on anything. When she's relaxed and secure, she's more straight forward and forthcoming without getting bogged down in thought.

Adia may suffer from Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. PTSD is a debilitating condition that follows a terrifying event. In her case, interrogation by the Detector Force. Often, people with PTSD have persistent frightening thoughts and memories of their ordeal and feel emotionally numb, especially with people they were once close to.

Some people with PTSD repeatedly relive the trauma in the form of nightmares and disturbing recollections during the day. Adia has nightmares every night, but can't talk about it because no Areonian will admit to nightmares. Someone might think she's incompetent at work.

They may also experience sleep problems, depression, feeling detached or numb or being easily startled. Seeing things that remind them of the incident may be very distressing, which could lead them to avoid certain places or situations that bring back those memories. Symptoms may be mild or severe. People may become easily irritated or have violent outbursts. A person having a flashback, which can come in the form of images, sounds, smells or feelings, usually believes that the traumatic event is happening all over again. Adia is easily startled, and seeing Emotion Detectors floating beside the sidewalk every morning and night does trigger her anxiety. Which she has to quickly calm down, because an increase in her breathing might trigger an ED to come!

Adia may suffer from Insomnia Disorder People with this disorder complain of difficulty initiating or maintaining sleep or experiencing non-restorative sleep. The associated daytime fatigue causes clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational or other important areas of functioning. Adia does. She is often sleep-deprived and can't afford to show it.

Adia was raised in a tense household with a lot of warnings to control herself and learned early not to trust the world. Situations can quickly turn dangerous and concentrating on one small problem or element of the world is the way she can keep her mind off the craziness. Adia literally loses herself in her mind. As a child, she always felt like an outsider, spending most of her time studying. Both parents were consumed by one thing (as scientists, that's their outlet) and never had time or energy to focus on this child. She had to learn to fit into the family structure by finding a comforting skill to focus on. Throughout her life, she has been misinterpreted as eccentric and a little loopy, but, in fact, she perceives the world in more accurate detail than most people. She's gone through long periods of suffering in silence.

Having had a lot of education, Adia has proven she loves learning. She can be social when opinions are being discussed but tends to do all her deep thinking alone. Her interests are diverse and esoteric with a profound understanding of the world.

At work, Adia is wise, perceptive and analytic, seeing information and data as the lifeblood of the business. She's able to synthesize information to truly make informed decisions. She's attracted to work where data is important.

This sub-type is very interesting in that she spends so much time in her head, thinking about concepts and philosophies. She is not extroverted by a long shot, but quietly loves to share what she has discovered with others. Adia has insight into the world that astounds others, knowing a lot about a few things. She's charming, quick-witted and clever. She also keeps secrets very well - no one can break into her vault of secrets - not even those closest to her.

Dialogue examples: "You like me? Why?" Internal Dialogue: "I'm perceptive. I feel good when I'm wise."

Adia can be perceptive, intelligent and independent in a relationship. Others are often drawn to her self-sufficiency and ability to remain detached in the face of chaos. Eventually others feel rejected by her need for privacy and alone time. She's excited by learning from others, but sometimes takes awhile to warm up to people. She tends to be attracted to Type 8s (The Boss) (known for pushing through without too much thought) for friends and generally avoids Type 7s (The Cheerleader). Her father, Joleon is a Type 8.

Adia's psychological change moves her toward being more comfortable with what she knows about the world, an acceptance that she has done enough research and thought - it's now time to live life. Perhaps she realizes what was missed during all this internal thinking. She may have missed having a relationship. She only liked one boy, but he didn't please her father, so she stopped trying. At this point, this sub-type, becomes more outgoing and involved with people by teaching or mentoring others of this type. She learns to give, so energy flows outward instead of inward.

Adia and Ryonne~'s (Husband) relationship can be a comfortable, supportive one because both types can be steady and non-demanding and both types tend to want to get along and avoid conflict. However, Adia can get impatient with Ryonne~'s indirectness and dependency. In turn, Adia's indifference and subtle superiority can frustrate Ryonne~. Ryonne~, wanting more connection and involvement, then gets a little hurt, while Adia retracts. But, they are both willing to talk things out and their shared years of memories together help with that. They already worked out many of their differences and experienced horrible things, which they need to talk about.

Adia appreciates Aronna's (Sister) positive outgoing personality. And Aronna enjoys the thoughtfulness and independence of Adia. But Adia can see Aronna as wanting too much attention. Aronna can see Adia as dampening enthusiasm and becoming unavailable. Although both types get angry in bursts, they tend to back off quickly to avoid negative or painful feelings.

While both characters share the quality of self-sufficiency, this quality creates challenges in communicating feelings. Maia (Sister) can get preachy about how life should be, which makes Adia withdraw as a protection. This could create a downward spiral as further judgment from Maia about what is wrong inspires more withdrawal in Adia.

This relationship is an attraction of opposites. Adia appreciates Marelei's (Mother) support. Marelei appreciates Adia's intellect and restraint. Yet Marelei's helpful energy can feel intrusive and demanding to Adia, who then withdraws. This results in an escalating cycle of intrusion by Marelei and withdrawal by Adia. Marelei eventually feels rejected and withdraws all support.

Adia's restraint and respect for boundaries and Joleon's (Father) expressiveness and engagement complement each other. Both characters value independence. But, for Adia, Joleon's big energy as a Type 8 Boss can get invasive and intimidating, causing Adia, a Type 5 Thinker to detach in order to resist Joleon's domination. A cycle of withdrawal and challenge can occur with Adia disappearing into unavailability and refusing to be dominated, while Joleon gets confrontational and angry.

This relationship is an attraction of opposites. Adia appreciates Marelei's (Mother) support. Marelei, a Type 2 Helper, appreciates Adia's intellect and restraint. Yet Marelei's helpful energy can feel intrusive and demanding to Adia, a Type 5 Thinker, who then withdraws. This results in an escalating cycle of intrusion by Marelei and withdrawal by Adia. Marelei eventually feels rejected and withdraws all support.

Adia and Liam (Uncle), a Type 1 Perfectionist, connect with shared intellectual interests and participation in projects. Their respect for boundaries and non-intrusiveness support the need for privacy and regeneration. Adia and Liam relax with each other in this non-demanding climate. However, the same stance and qualities can lead to emotional distancing and disconnection. They see each other as stingy and unavailable and ultimately feel lonely.

Adia and Neli (Aunt), a Type 6 Skeptic, appreciate their shared characteristics of thoughtful analysis and respect for boundaries. Still, when Adia becomes reclusive, Neli may project doubts and concerns about care and trust. If this happens, Neli may become intrusive and accusatory out of a need for more reassurance and involvement. Adia may then see Neli as making too many demands. In response, Adia will most likely detach.

If you like this character evaluation, which I've altered, check out Typing Chimp. It is a paid software, but I really find the Character software useful when fleshing out my characters. It uses the Enneagram 9 Personality Types, which you can find out more about on enneagram.com

I have more characters to add. Please bear with me. I was in the middle of finding my notes when yesterday's vaccinations hit me. I did update several other chapters of this. More coming soon!
