Chapter 2

The four Pokémon walked along the Prime Path, a sobering silence between them. Zuri and Rai led the group, still a bit wary of the Pikachu and Eevee. Luke occasionally glanced at the Zorua before glancing over to trees nearby.

"So... Um... Andrew?" Luke asked quietly, leaning closer to him. "Would it be bad if I um... Tried to... Break the ice?"

Andrew glanced at the Eevee staring at him. "You could," he whispered back, "but I'm not sure that's a good idea." The Pikachu blinked a few times before staring at the Riolu in wonder.

"Wait hold on... Are you staring at the Riolu?" The Eevee followed his gaze. "You said I was, you hypocrite." Luke lowered an eyebrow in inquisition.

"I-I don't know why I'm doing this though," he responded with a whisper. The Pikachu's tail started wagging unconsciously. "It's like Lockjaw, only with your eyes."

"Tell me about it. But then how about we find out?" Luke asked quietly, his tail beginning to wag. "You go talk to the Riolu and I'll... Talk to the Zorua, as you probably already know I was planning to..."

"Fine."

"Well everyone..." Zuri ran to the top of a hill with some joy. "Welcome to Wennel City!" The Pikachu and Eevee's eyes widened as they looked over the town. It looked extremely advanced for a Pokémon town, having a tall, round building in the center. Houses and what looked like hotels dotted the area, all connected by sidewalks.

"That's a good looking city." Luke remarked quietly. "We really are somewhere different..."

Andrew slowly nodded. "Yeah, no kidding," he replied silently. "So mind telling us where we're going, Zorua and Riolu?"

"To the station to figure out what to do with you two." Rai replied honestly. "From there, I don't know where you're going."

The Pikachu's ears dropped automatically. "Um... We're not gonna get arrested or something, right?"

The Zoura looked at the Riolu, who was looking at the male Pokémon. "Well, that's if they have nothing to hide, right?"

"Don't know." The Riolu shrugged. She then turned to face the group. "Well we should get moving again, you guys."

"Fine then." Andrew obliged while starting to walk again. "Come on, Luke. Let's go."

The Eevee followed behind him before whispering something else. "I'm gonna go and talk to her." He spoke quietly, his tail beginning to wag quickly.

"Alright, I'll talk to the Riolu after you finish your conversation with the Zorua, got it?" The Pikachu whispered back while leaning to him.

"Um..." Zuri moved back to the Riolu. "Do you think you can hear them talking to each other?" She asked her.

"I probably could if I really tried, why?" Rai tilted her head confusedly. The four of them were about to reach the front gates of Wennel City.

The Zoura sighed before noticing Luke stumbling forward. "I think the two of them are acting weird towards us."

"You mean towards you?" The Riolu asked with a smile. "I don't think the Pikachu really did anything off, but that Eevee's been occasionally staring at you."

"Oh, no. The Pikachu started staring at you a few minutes a—...!" Zuri started speaking fast after the first sentence, but had to stop because Luke was a few steps away from them.

"How about we talk about this later?" Rai asked with a smile. "That Eevee's approaching, and I'll give you two some privacy."

Zuri tried to argue with that, but the Eevee suddenly arrived next to her. "F-Fine, Rai. Just go." All of them were crossing a metal gate, revealing an abundance of Pokémon walking the crossways.

As Rai gave the two some space, Luke began to speak. "I-I don't don't think I ever got your name." The Eevee looked away nervously. "I-I'm Luke."

The Zoura wanted to take a few steps away from him, but she knew that nothing terrible was gonna happen if she told him her name. "I'm Zuri...," she said, being a bit blunt.

Seeing her reluctance, the Eevee became a bit more sheepish and reluctant in return. "Well it's nice to meet you..." Luke looked down before looking back at her. "Y-You already know I'm not from here, so what's this city like?"

"Well..." Zuri thought to herself for a moment. "Obviously he's not from here," she stated to herself, "but should I really tell him about it? He could be tricking me." Eventually the Zoura turned right, knowing the station was nearby. "I guess you could say it's like a normal town, except we act like our own country."

"So like... Independent?" Luke tilted his head in confusion. "But why? And what would you even be independent from?"

"Man... That Eevee's a mess of nerves." Rai remarked subconsciously, overhearing the conversation. "Is he attracted to her or something? Well that would explain a few things... I'm a bit interested in this..." The Riolu smiled to herself, listening in to the conversation.

"I actually don't know the answer to that..." She stated immediately. "I'm not a fan of politics."

"Ugh same. But It's worse where we come from." Luke groaned, relaxing a bit. "Everyone's always talking about it, and whenever you try to avoid it, it just pops right in your face." The Eevee let out a sigh of exasperation.

"Really?" The Zoura asked while looking straight at the station a block away. "I'm pretty sure that's impossible. Politics can't be everywhere from where you're from."

"Oh, no." Andrew mumbled to himself. "Here comes that explanation..."

"Not everywhere, but it's still prominent." The Eevee let out another sigh. "I don't even want to start, it just bums me out. Honestly, sometimes I just wanted to go away far from there. But I guess that's why I'm here."

After a few seconds of silence, the Pikachu sighs with relief. "Oh thank heavens he didn't speak too much. I was gonna go insane."

"That's why when I hopefully leave the station, I'm gonna take a look around this place." Luke continued with a now carefree smile. "It looks really cool."

"...Well for starters, you're gonna have to explain why you're here in the first place." The Zoura stated. "Maybe you'll be let go a few hours later, unless you have something to hide." She squinted her eyes at the Eevee. "You don't have anything to hide, right?"

"Not really." He answered, not changing his carefree expression. "That means I can hopefully see you again, doesn't it?" The male Eevee gave a bright smile.

"Well, good," She nodded in response. "We might see each other again then soon. It's a small world after all." The four of them arrived at the front of the station. But there was no clue as to what station it is, since it literally said "Station" on the sign. "Let's drop you and the Pikachu off now."

"Hey, um... There's one more thing." Luke spoke, grabbing Zuri's attention. "Y-You wouldn't mind if you... Showed me around sometime?"

The Zoura thought to herself for a second. "Maybe. If me and Rai aren't doing jobs, then maybe we could... Rai, can you check us in?"

The Riolu stifled a laugh before nodding, a movement that Zuri took notice of. "Yeah, I'll do that. You don't worry about it."

The Pikachu sighed as the Riolu went ahead of the pack to check in. "Luke, you did a good job, despite you being nervous," Andrew stated out loud.

The Eevee put his paws over his eyes nervously. "...That sounded like I asked her out, didn't it?" Luke asked quietly, a small blush on his face.

"It absolutely did," the Pikachu nodded to Luke. "But guess what? Now you can brag about asking someone out to your other friends now!"

"But they won't believe when I say I honestly asked out a Pokémon." The embarrassed Eevee whimpered. "But I know I honestly did ask her out... Consciously."

"Just... Come on, let's get this over with," Andrew ran up the stone steps to realize that Pokémon wearing metal hats were staring at him and the Eevee. "Um... What's going on, Riolu?"

"Well firstly, it's Rai." She answered, "Secondly, you two are about to go through the process when we find suspicious Pokémon." A Squirtle wearing the same metal hat approached the Pikachu and elbowed him to the gut.

"Ow!" Andrew yelled while falling to the cold, hard ground. "What was that for? I rather walk in than be arrested." Some of the other Pokémon decided to lock his arms so he couldn't use them in a counterattack—even though he didn't know of any moves.

The Squirtle then approached Luke before doing the same, making him cripple to the ground in pain. "Don't get mad..." He told himself. "Ow... Ow..."

"I'm sorry, Luke." The Zoura told him while some other Pokémon came to do the same to him. "If you really have nothing to hide, this should be over soon." Andrew and Luke started getting pushed into the building.

"See you soon..." The Eevee whimpered in pain, giving her a smile. The Zorua waved in response.

As the door closed from the building, Zuri went to Rai. "You know, I was starting to like the little guy. I'm just hoping they can get past the lie detector test..."

"Oh my Arceus, you do care about him!" The Riolu gave an enthusiastic smile. "My friend's got a little crush!" She picked her friend up and gave her a cheerful hug.

"I-It's not a crush!" She responded while getting crushed from the hug. "We barely know each other...!" The Riolu didn't notice a quick red from the Zoura.

"Mhm, okay..." Rai put her down and gave a disbelieving smile. "Whatever you say..." She shrugged. "Anyways, we should probably get back."

***

A dim light flashed in the dark room, barely giving the two Pokémon light to see each other. "...I still doubt that the Squirtle should have done that to my gut. I'm still in pain." He said with his arms locked on handcuffs.

Andrew looked over to Luke, who seemed to be knocked out in both pain and fear. The Pikachu sighed at the sight. "Mmmm..." The Eevee softly groaned.

"And when things can't get worse..." He sighed while the doorknob could be heard rattling. The door opened slowly as a Lopunny walked in, followed by a Lucario. "Oh, I'm completely wrong."

The Lopunny looked between the two before her eyes rested on an unconscious Luke. "Brandy, wake him up." She spoke coldly. "Make sure it hurts, too."

"Sheesh, why do you like giving pain to Pokémon, Loli?" Brandy moved over to place a paw on the Eevee's head. "...Aura Sphere." A blue sphere formed immediately on the Lucario's paw before it entered Luke's body.

A searing pain in the Eevee's body instantly woke him up, making him scream in pain. "Why?" Luke cried, his head drooping to the side in pain. "What do you want from us?"

"And he didn't deserve that!" Andrew argued while trying to move.

"Don't backtalk me, or you'll get the same as your friend." Loli spoke bluntly. "We need answers. Who sent you here?"

"Well, a Riolu and a Zorua did." Luke answered in pain. "They walked us here, and sorta handed us over. I can't really blame her—sorry, them."

"That wasn't the question." The Lucario sat down across the room. "Who sent you to the Prime Path before my sister and Zuri caught you two?"

"...And I regret my life choices now." Andrew thought to himself while looking down. "I guess this Lucario is her brother."

"No one did." The Eevee replied honestly, his voice unwavering. "We came here of our own free will, and got lost. We saw Zuri and Rai and decided to ask them where we were. But before we could, they caught us in the bushes looking like idiots..."

"That and I think we forgot some of our memories about this place," The Pikachu added to that claim. "Which make me highly doubt it's called 'Station.'"

"...Lie detector test it is." Loli gave a fake smile. "Since you two have been... generally compliant, we'll inform you that any trace of deceit will send a powerful shock. Three shocks, and you have a decent chance of dying."

"D-Decent chance?" The Pikachu stood there stunned.

"We're gonna die..." The Eevee thought, his eyes widening. "We are going to die!"

"Decent, meaning that there's a good chance." The Lopunny pulled out multiple pads, connected to a few wires. "We'll just stick them to your head, legs, arms, and neck."

"I'll get the machine," Brandy quickly ran out the room and returned with what looked like a seismograph a few seconds later. "The spikes that you two give off will tell if you're lying or not... I'm praying that you two speak truthfully..." He turned to the Lopunny placing the pads on them. "Well, she isn't."

"Is everything ready?" Loli asked, putting two "special" pads on Andrew's red cheeks. She received a nod from Brandy as she backed away from the two. "Good, you can ask the first question, Brandy."

"Alright then." The Lucario pressed a button on the machine before looking at the two of them. "State your names and where you were last night."

"My name is Luke." The Eevee spoke nervously. "Last night, I was at home." He secretly prepared for a shock, but nothing came.

"Well, at least you passed that..." The Pikachu nodded while turning back to them. "My name is Andrew, and I too was at home last night." His eyes closed before waiting for the shock. Fortunately, it didn't come. "Phew... I guess either I got it right or my red cheeks saved me."

"Loli, they both said the truth," Brandy nodded while staring at the normal spikes. "Your turn."

"Are you two involved with Decargo City in any way?" The Lopbunny spoke. "And again, who sent you?"

"We don't know what that city is." Luke answered for the two. "And... We came here of our own free will." The Eevee prepared for a jolt, knowing that someone could have sent them there.

"That checks out..." Loli spoke, checking the seismograph. "...Brandy, you're asking next."

The Lucario stood up to kneel down on the Pikachu. "Hmm... I might as well ask the obvious question... Where exactly are you from?" A cold sweat came down the Pikachu's head as he gulped.

"Well, we're not from here, that's for sure...," Andrew said to them. "And we're definitely not from the area." A bit of a spike came from his chart, but it wasn't into the lying range. It was more in the nervous range.

"We're getting somewhere..." Loli smiled confidently. "What about you, Luke was it? Where are you from?"

"I... What do I do... I mean there is something that I could do... But I'd die." The Eevee gritted his teeth nervously. "Well you know we're from there, another place, a place on the other side of this continent." Suddenly, a sharp pain jolted through Luke's body, making him cry out in pain. The Eevee's head drooped down.

"Luke!" Andrew yelled while not being able to move "Stop torturing him! Ask me the rest of the questions."

"No thank you." The Lopunny smirked. "This one's easier to crack." She put a paw on his chin, lifting his head up. "Now answer correctly this time. Where are you from?"

"...D-Did you know?" The Eevee asked, his body twitching. "Did you know that..."

"Wait." Loli stopped him suddenly. "Brandy, send the voltage up two levels. I want to make sure he speaks honestly this time."

The Lucario turned to look at the Lopunny. "Are you trying to kill him or something?" He stated while hesitantly obliging, turning the voltage up.

"W-Why..." Andrew's body started sweating unconsciously while looking at the Eevee. "Is this place getting hot or something?"

"I-I think it is... B-But it just might be my brain frying." Luke replied, looking at the Pikachu. "But y-you haven't b-been s-shocked yet."

"Well, Andrew's voltage is reaching his limit." Brandy was looking at the charts. "It gives him a fever until the voltage is reduced. So your friend here could suffer a heat stroke unless you answer correctly."

"That's... They outsmarted my outsmarting!" The Eevee thought, his eyes widening. "Okay, fine." Luke looked down. "We're from... Well it's a long story..."

"Wrong answer, Luke." Luke started yelling in pain with the electricity surrounding him. Andrew tried to move towards Luke, but no success. "That's two incorrect answers."

"...I d-didn't even g-get to answer..." The Eevee whimpered, steam rising from his head. "Come on... A few more jolts, and it could work."

"Raise four levels." Loli spoke, her expression faltering. "I know what this intelligent dumbass is trying to do." She let out a sigh. "Trust me... It won't work. But you're the first one to actually try overloading the system."

Luke dropped his head in defeat and pain, his sight going fuzzy. "Well... I tried. I guess this is how it ends. Before it even started."

"Damn it, Luke!" Andrew shouted out loud, sweat pouring on the floor. "Why can't you just tell them that we used to be human!" The Pikachu's final word echoed throughout the halls, making whoever in the area hear it. The Lucario glanced down at his chart.

It was normal.

"What the hell?" Brandy's eyes widened while squinting. "He's telling the truth."

"...No wonder they didn't want us to know of their origins..." Loli put a paw on her chin. "Humans are mythical creatures rumored to come from another world... That's you two." She looked between Andrew, who wore a confused expression. And Luke, who was now completely unconscious

"Look, we didn't mean to come here," the Pikachu began while panting loudly. "I was supposed to meet him in our... world, I guess, tomorrow. And I stupidly wished that we could have an adventure worth writing about..." He looked up at the Lopunny with beady eyes. "Please don't make me and him faint, we just wanna find our way home."

"That lines up with all of the previous statements, and where they were first discovered." Loli spoke, looking down at Andrew. "Disarm the graph, Brandy. Their story passes, they aren't a threat."

"Oh thank Arceus," the Lucario sighed while turning off the machine. "I really hate this part of the job when it happens." With a psychic removal of Andrew's handcuffs, he quickly ran to the Eevee.

"Luke, speak!" Andrew started shaking the Eevee. "I don't want you to be dead. Please wake up!"

The Eevee remained silent and unconscious as Loli let out a sigh. "Your friend's fine. He only took two jolts, so he's most likely not dead."

"Alright, I have one question to ask you two then." Andrew sat down before placing his head against the wall. "...You say that humans are mythical creatures... How do you know about that?" A large breath came in from the Pikachu before exhaling.

Brandy stood up before standing next to the Lopunny. "Well, we might as well take you and Luke to our library after you two get your stamina back."

Suddenly, the door burst open, revealing a familiar Riolu. "This is the Hatchday Police! Get on the ground—What the heck happened in here?"

"Oh, hi Rai," The Lucario realized the voice behind him. "Don't worry, we cleared them just now..." He looked down to the pool of sweat still on the floor. "Well, there was I guess a bit of a mess to go with it."

"W-Who's birthday is it...?" Andrew said unconsciously.

"I-It's mine..." Loli spoke bluntly, a small blush on her face. "I didn't think she'd remember now of all times."

Everyone could hear a facepalm coming from Brandy. "He just had to say birthday, didn't he?" He mumbled out loud.

"A-Anyways." The Lopunny coughed, her blush fading a bit. "Aren't you missing a friend, Rai? Where's Zuri?"

"I'm right here..." A Zoura came out the door, panting loudly. She laid down next to the pool of sweat. "Rai, if we were in a race, you'd be running laps on me."

"Okay next question..." Loli began, "Did anyone check Luke's pulse to make sure he's still alive?"

Andrew nodded before mentioning. "It's a good thing I know what hates him the most." The Pikachu placed his mouth near the Eevee's ear. "Take the L!!"

"Gah!" Luke's eyes shot open before he fell out of his chair and onto the floor. "W-What happened?" His eyes then drifted over to a familiar Zorua. "Z-Zuri? When'd you get here?" The Eevee looked at her nervously. "...Did we fail?"

"You would have been dead if we failed," Andrew sighed while not realizing everyone else is around him. "So we obviously passed because I told them who we are."

"So much for living as a normal Pokémon." The Eevee looked down. "But I guess it's good that I'm still alive." Luke's teeth gritted together. "Guess I kinda messed up... Will she even want to be around me after lying to her?"

"Um...," Zuri raised her paw before looking at the Pikachu and Eevee. "What did you tell them?"

"Short version, they're a mythical race from a different world that became Pokémon." Loli answered. "Other then that, they're just normal Pokémon with no extra abilities."

The Zoura and Riolu looked at each other for a second before staring back at the Pikachu and Eevee. "...I thought those things were made-up stories though."

"Well, as you can see from Luke, these two went through the lie detector." Loli answered, "Luke tried to lie about their origins and short-circuit the lie detector, almost killing him. Andrew spoke up and revealed it, and it turned out to be one-hundred percent true."

Brandy pointed at the machine in the corner of the room. "I marked it at the end of the paper when Andrew spoke the truth, by the way..."

"No wonder why he's twitching..." Rai put a paw to her chin. "What about the large bruise on his forehead? Don't tell me you Aura Sphered him, too."

"Hey, Loli forced me to wake him up via pain," the Lucario started picking up the Eevee and placing him on his shoulder. "So I blame her..."

Andrew barely stood up before looking at Brandy. "W-Where are you going with him?"

"He might be taking him to a nearby infirmary." Rai answered. "He's pretty messed up from the..." She looked at the side of the electronic box. "...Hundreds of volts administered to his body."

"...Yeah, I'm going there." The Lucario replied, giving a fake smile. "To the infirmary!" Brandy could be seen speeding off, going faster than what Zuri claimed for Rai.

Andrew slowly started walking to outside the room they were in. "Rai, I really hope you trust your brother for direction, 'cause I have no clue where we go."

"Yeah, Luke will be just fine." Rai replied with a nod. She then turned to Zuri. "So... How are you taking this? Still confused?"

The Zoura nodded almost immediately . "Extremely confused... I rather head to the infirmary before going berserk on questions, though." A soft blush came upon her before she started walking outside the dark room.

"Worried?" The Riolu lowered an eyebrow in inquiry. She put her paws on her hips as she watched Zuri leave.

"I-I'll just see you in the place." She stated while trying to be confident. Her paws really started running, since everyone could hear the metal make a booming sound echoing throughout the halls.
