Chapter 25
I had actually planned on killing off Kat in the last chapter, but she started to grow on me. Maybe it was her painfully obvious flaws and confident mask; I honestly couldn't tell you why I chose to let her live.
So if you've become a bit of a fan of Kat, then you're welcome. Trust me, you'll be seeing a whole lot more of her in the sequel, and I might try to write an origin story for her, though the last one I wrote for an OC didn't turn out so well.
Anyway, you probably don't care about any of what you just read, so here's your compensation.
By the way, yes I did just resolve the main conflict that easily. But don't worry, you haven't seen the last of Dr. Pam, the Director From Hell.
Enjoy!

"Brun...." Loki pleaded, reaching his hand out towards hers.
She pulled away from him and crossed her arms over her chest.
"Why are you back?"
Loki sighed.
"H.O.P.E. messed with my mind. Dr. Reese made me compliant and tried brainwash me. She came close to succeeding, but I met someone.....someone who somehow manages to walk the thin line between brave an stupid. Her name is Kat, and she helped me escape. We blew up Pamela's main facility and took out her remaining troops before coming back here. I've missed you, Love."
Brunnhilde couldn't meet his eyes.
"As far as excuses go, that's not terrible, but I heard you talking to me on the phone. You seemed like yourself when you told us you were never coming back and that this Kat woman was the love of your life!"
Thor watched the exchange from a distance and gave his brother an encouraging nod.
"The things that those pills do to you....I cannot explain them. It's like you're there, but you're not. Another way to describe it is something I lack. Look, I know that last time I left, I said I was never coming back. I know that at this point, you have no real reason to trust me, but if you really love me, you'll give me one last chance. Please?"
Brunnhilde shrugged.
"I don't know if we can ever be as close as we once were, Loki, but I will give you one final chance to prove yourself to me. If you fail, you will have lost me forever. Don't screw up."
Loki nodded in understanding and watched as she retreated back to her room. There was nothing left he could do besides try everything in his power to love her.
"Loki, are you alright?" Thor asked, walking over to his brother.
"After everything that's happened in these past few months, I'm honestly not sure."
The older asgardian was unsure of what to say.
"Would it make you feel better if we paid a visit to S.H.I.E.L.D.? I can tell that you're quite worried about Kat."
"Yes, I suppose that might help."

Loki met Fury's eye, and the two men engaged in a heated staring match. Fury finally caved with an exasperated sigh.
"What's really sad is that at this point, I know exactly why you're here and I'm not even surprised. Miss Scott is currently in a holding cell in the detention block. Make it quick."
Loki didn't even bother to respond before he motioned for Thor to follow him and strutted off down the hallway.
"Who's this?" Kat asked as both brothers approached the circular glass cell.
"This is my brother, Thor. How do you fare?"
Kat shrugged.
"I'm fine. Still awaiting a trial, but I already know that the outcome won't be good. I'll be lucky if my sentence isn't the row."
Loki stepped forward.
"And if it is, you'll come back with us and-"
"Loki, stop trying to find solution to get me out of this. There is no way, and I need to accept my fate. If I am destined to die, then so be it. You can't stop what's meant to happen."
The trickster placed his hand against the glass and Kat pressed her hand against his on the other side.
"I don't know what you want me to do if you die." He murmured.
She gave him a small smile.
"If you remember me when I'm gone, then that's great, but what matters most to me is that you find Dr. Pamela again and take that bitch down."
Thor walked up to Loki and stood by his side, offering Kat a smile in return.
"We will. For you and the rest of the innocents that she hurt."
Kat laughed.
"Oh, I'm most definitely not innocent. Will you be at the trial?" She asked.
Loki nodded vigorously.
"Of course."
Thor raised an eyebrow and turned to Loki.
"Are you sure about this?"
The god of mischief's eyes were fixed in a steely glare.
"I will be there for her no matter what."
He turned back to Kat just as all three of them heard footsteps from down the hall.
"Time's up, boys. The trial is in two days, so if you're coming, which, judging by the look on Laufeyson's face, I assume you are, then don't be late. I really don't need you two drawing attention to yourselves in front of the council."
The two asgardians nodded and headed out. They left S.H.I.E.L.D. and returned to the Avengers facility, where Loki met 6 very pissed heroes.
He had a lot of explaining to do.
