Chapter 17
Credit to Creativelyinsane13 for writing the first sentence. She looked a bit shocked when I asked her to write my fanfiction, but she has good ideas. So yeah, this chapter is on Svartelfheim because of her.
Thanks Rach!

The three men arrived on Svartalfhiem after Loki recovered from his last explosion. He'd teleported them to the abandoned planet without a second thought, knowing that he needed to recover somewhere uninhabited. They trekked across the barren wasteland, Tony and Bruce open mouthed in awe at the sights around them.
"So is this place basically like a spaceship graveyard?"
Loki avoided eye contact with them as he led the way, his boots kicking up the dark grey dusty turf.
"More than just junk metal was laid to rest here."
After that none too lengthy explanation, the two scientists grew silent. They got the vibe that bad things had happened here, and they didn't want to push any further.
About a mile of walking, they came across what seemed to be a decaying corpse. Loki stopped abruptly at the sight of the Dark Elf.
"Malekith...." He whispered, memories flooding back to him.
Tony and Bruce stepped cautiously towards the corpse, half crushed underneath the ruins of his ship. Loki found himself disgusted by the sight of the creature, his flesh rotting away, his skin gaunt and sunken in.
While the two scientists continued to observe the body, Loki wandered off. He soon found himself standing on the very same cliff he'd stood on so long ago. He knelt down by the edge of it and picked up a handful of the sand, letting it slip through his fingers. He closed his eyes, letting the frigid air brush past him. Before long, the memories swimming through his head turned into flashbacks.
Thor, Loki, and Jane silently left their ship behind an inconspicuous pile of junk metal. They crept across the sandy terrain without a word. Loki kept his eyes focused on the ground in front of him, but let his mind wander. Could he really pull off Thor's plan? And even if he did, how much was at stake?
By the time they had reached the cliff overlooking Malekith's army stationed by their ship, he had mentally prepared himself enough to carry out his part of their plan.
"Alright, are you ready?" Thor asked Jane.
Loki pulled himself out of his thoughts to turn to his brother, answering the question meant for the woman next to him.
"I am."
Malekith eyed them from the ground below the rocky cliff, Kurse standing at his side.
The brothers could feel the gaze of the crazed Dark Elf following them up onto the mountain.
"You know this plan of yours is going to get us killed." Loki remarked.
Thor barely considered his brother's words before giving him a response.
"Yes, possibly."
The trickster held his shackled hands out in front of him expectantly. Thor eyed him with suspicion.
"You still don't trust me, brother?"
Thor raised an eyebrow questioningly.
"Would you?"
The blonde removed Loki's shackles, albeit reluctantly, and the god of mischief smirked, rubbing his wrists.
He turned away for a moment, unsheathing a dagger. He didn't want his brother to see the pain in his eyes. The truth was, he didn't like this plan at all. He'd stabbed Thor many times, of course, but now it felt more like an act of betrayal.
"No I wouldn't." He murmured.
And it was true.
He didn't even trust himself.
Loki turned around in one swift moment and drove the dagger through the blonde's side. He shoved Thor off of the cliff and watched as Jane screamed in terror. The woman had no idea of the plan, since it had to remain authentic.
"Thor!" She shouted, chasing him off of the side of the mountain.
The younger asgardian followed close behind.
Their plan wasn't finished yet.
Loki drew in a sharp breath as he broke out of his trance. He looked around to see Tony standing over him.
"Yoo hoo! Reindeer Games? Are ya okay? You spaced out on us for a minute there."
By us, he was referring to himself and Banner, who stood off to the side complaining about the cell signal.
"I'm telling you, Tony. There's no WiFi! How do we run tests when there isn't any WiFi?"
Tony shrugged and focused his attention back on Loki, who looked dazed and confused.
"I wonder how badly it will hurt if I jump off of this cliff." He murmured to himself.
Stark raised a concerned eyebrow.
"Antlers?..."
Without warning, Loki stood up and jumped off of the cliff, plummeting towards the sand below.
"Loki!" Bruce shouted, abandoning his iPad to run to the cliff's edge.
Just before the trickster hit the ground, he exploded, but this time he managed to channel the energy from it. He used it to propel himself upwards and soared into the smoggy air.
"You can fly?!" Tony shouted from below.
"Apparently!"
He glowed green as he hovered in the air in shock.
"See! You can control it!" Bruce yelled up to him.
Loki nodded and surveyed the terrain. His eyes landed on a familiar spot on the ground, and all of a sudden he was falling.
The asgardian landed on the with a loud crash, leaving him in a two foot deep crater in the ground.
He laid their until the scientists could make their way down the cliff to him.
"What happened?" Tony asked.
Loki grimaced in pain as he pulled himself off of the ground.
"I don't know...I just...I saw the place where I'd almost died....and then I lost control."
Bruce examined the scratches on his face for a moment.
"It seems that your control comes from a place of absolute calm. You need to accept your surroundings and fate in order to channel your abilities. How did you do it last time?"
Loki shrugged slightly.
"I imagined a time before now, with Thor and his mortal. It was before my supposed death. We were fighting together."
The billionaire raised a quizzical eyebrow.
"So recreate more of those scenes in your mind and use them to give you hope. Maybe that's all it takes."
Loki nodded and tried again, this time bringing forth a memory of learning magic in the palace gardens with Frigga. Before he knew it, a blast of energy erupted within him, but he forced it away.
I am in control.
He repeated the process for five hours, pulling memories to the surface of his mind and using them to channel the energy within him. By the time he felt that he'd learned to control it enough, Loki had flown, materialized weapons from thin air, used the energy to blast apart an entire mountain along with the remains of Malekith's ship, and healed a gash on Bruce's arm that he'd received from flying metal shrapnel during one of Loki's mishaps with his abilities.
"I think I'm ready to go back." He said breathlessly after telepathically lifting a boulder into the air.
"That was probably the coolest five hours of my life." Tony exclaimed, still in awe by Loki's power.
After running a few tests recorded with a pencil and paper provided by Bruce, they were ready to go. Loki teleported all three of them back to Midgard, where they made the short trip to the Avengers facility.
Right before they entered the facility, Stark stopped Loki for a moment.
"Look, I know that with the power you have now, you can probably do anything and go anywhere, but if you ever leave us, please remember who helped get you to where you are now. You have a girlfriend and brother who both love you, and you have us. We've got your back, Loki. Never forget that."
Loki conjured a small green flame in his hand and observed it thoughtfully before extinguishing it and turning to the man in front of him.
"I'm not going anywhere."
