Chapter 38: No Regrets

•×•

🌶️Spicy Kissy Scene 🌶️

Only because I like you guys, there's another one.

 •×•

The next evening, the Gladers stood at the West doors, waiting. Alby had asked if I would help bring Ben out. Minho and I nodded at the baggers, who unlocked the door, and we jumped in. Ben turned towards us. He had gotten worse over the 24 hours he was in the Slammer. He was more animal than anything. As soon as we were in the cell he lunged for me with a snarl. I was expecting it.

I ducked, and swept my leg out, tripping him. He landed on his stomach, his already bloody head smacked the ground. Before he could get up, Minho and I both jumped on top of him, pinning him down. I grabbed one arm, Minho grabbed the other one. We yanked them behind his head. While Minho held his wrists, all the muscles in his arms flexing and working to hold Ben. I tied them together as quickly as I could.

Carefully we got up and yanked him to his knees. He struggled, but it was easier to control him when his arms were tied. Minho had one side and I had the other.

"Move." Minho barked.

His smirk and playfulness was gone, it was replaced by the stone cold Keeper. I had the same cold look; jaw clamped, eyes narrowed and angry, every muscle tense and coiled for a fight. Right now was all business. We shoved Ben towards the Slammer door.

"Minho! She's bad! She's bad! Don't listen to her! She kills for them! She's a murderer! Murderer! Murderer!" He screamed the last word.

"Shut up." Minho barked, giving him another shove. The Baggers helped hull him from the Slammer. Minho and I got put and took Ben back.

"Bring 'im out!" Yelled Alby.

Minho and I took hold of Ben and marched him towards the Group of Gladers. The Baggers flanked us, just in case, but with Minho and me holding Ben he had no where to go. Ben had stopped screaming at the moment, and walked quite calmly. Minho and my face was set into a hard impassive mask. We walked straight and heavy. Our eyes straight forwards. I had no feelings at the moment. Whether I was numb or just straight up uncaring I wasn't sure. But I just didn't feel anything right now. Maybe that was the Assassin training. Or maybe I was just that cruel, but I was indifferent.

We marched Ben around the crowd of silent Gladers. The Keepers had formed a semi circle in front of the Gladers a few feet from the doors.  They stood stiff and uncomfortable, each holding a spear or sharpened stick. I had offered to do this myself, but they had insisted they do it as a group. It looked like some of them were going to pass out. But they all had set and determined faces.

"Newt." Alby barked again.

Alby held out his hand, Newt gave him a wood pole with leather at the end. Alby bent down and put it around his neck. I recognized it as a collar. While Alby was putting a collar around Ben's neck, Newt attached all the long metal poles together. And then he put the wood and metal attached. Minho let go of Ben and walked to the doors and threw Ben's Running backpack into the maze.

"Ben of the Runners, you've been sentenced to Banishment for the attempted murder of Thomas the Greenie and Jessie Keeper of the Runners. The Keepers have voted and they have spoken. Your fate has been decided: Banishment. And their word ain't changing. You ain't coming back. Ever."

He looked up from the boy on the ground, his face stone cold. His eyes not meeting anyone as they drifted over the tops of the Gladers heads. He did catch my eye. I gave a small nod of encouragement. I had also volunteered to do this part, but again he had sighed and said it was part of being a Leader, doing the hard stuff.  My respect for him went up slightly. He inclined his head ever so slightly.

Ben just stayed on his knees, as if he had given up. He was shivering, but his eyes were down cast, and his head hung.

"Keepers. Poles." Alby shouted.

Ben's head came up, his black and blood shot eyes looked up at Alby, terrified. Alby wasn't looking. He was looking straight ahead. His eyes flicked to Minho, who slid his knife out and cut the rope that held Ben's hands. Ben's wide eyes flicked to me. I looked back at him for a second and then looked away and grabbed the metal pole that was attached to his collar. The keepers around us lowered their spears, pointing them at Ben. Minho, Newt, Alby and myself held onto the long metal pole.

The wind blew through the hall. The ground started to rumble. The old rusty gears started to grind. The stone slid across the stone, making a loud rumbling grinding noise. The Keepers stepped forward and took their places spreading out around Ben.

"Keepers! Now!" Alby roared.

The four of us on the long pole attached to Ben's collar started to push, The keepers stepped closer, corralling him towards the closing doors, outside the safety of the walls. It was only then, when Ben was halfway through the closing walls he started to fight. He managed to twist around to face the Gladers and myself. I stood at the front of the long pole. With spit flying from his mouth he started screaming and pleading.

"Don't do this! I'm better! I'm all better!" He screamed.

None of the keepers said anything, just kept pushing.

"Alby! Don't do this! Minho! Please! Please! Don't do this! I'm better! I didn't mean to!"

Again no one said anything, my eyes were cold and dead, how I felt inside.

"Jessie! I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I didn't mean it! Please Jessie! Please!"

I clenched my jaw tighter. I pushed the pole again, and now he was inside the maze. The doors were almost closed. I quickly detached the long metal part, a few of the Keepers kept their spears lowered. I stood in front of the door, Ben's blood shot eyes locked onto mine and he screamed in rage right before the doors slammed shut.

It was silent. So quiet I could hear everyone breathing behind me, I could hear my own heartbeat.

"He belongs to the Maze now." Alby said.

I slowly turned around. He was already walking away, his head still held up, but his shoulders were stiff. I took a step after him, but Newt held an arm out and shook his head.

"Give him some space, Love. I'll go see him in a bit."

I nodded. I wasn't sure what I was going to do or say, I'm not one for comfort, but I understood what he was going through. I turned and walked away. I needed some quiet. I headed to the safety of my room. The crowd of guys parted and I walked straight through. They all kept their eyes averted. I passed the crowd when Thomas caught up to me, and fell into step with me. I growled.

"How could we have just done that! It was so barbaric!"

I stopped walking, and turned towards him. Thomas stopped walking as well, he was looking really pale.

"We do what we have to."

"But did we have to?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"He wasn't going to get better. Only worse, and he was dangerous."

"But why?"

"Do you ever stop?"

"No. Now tell me why we had to just kill a boy."

"I could have let him kill you. I didn't see you complaining when I jumped in and saved your ass. Again."

He opened and closed his mouth like a fish. He frowned and pulled his eyebrows together.

"You heard Newt and Alby and the rules? You heard them always yapping about order?"

He nodded.

"Well we can't have a psycho running around trying to kill people, trying to eat them, now can we Greenie?"

He hung his head and shook it. He looked back up, another question on his lips.

"But...you run around and do whatever you want! How is that different?"

"Difference is I'm not trying to kill anyone. Or eat them. I put no one but myself in danger, or I defend myself against idiots like you and Dug."

I turned and continued to walk away. Thomas finally stood still trying to figure out what I had said.

•×•

I sat on my bed staring blankly at the wall, my mind was turning. There was a knock at the door, but I was so into my thoughts I didn't notice. Minho pushed the door open anyways.

"Jess?"

I didn't answer, I frowned instead and cocked my head, I finally figured out what was bothering me.

"I'm the reason..." I said quietly, I was talking to myself.

"What?" Minho looked at me with worry. He came over to me. I continued to look past him and at the wall. It all made sense now and what bothered me the most...was it bothered me.

"Jess, think out loud so I know what's going on." He brushed some hair away from my face and tucked it behind my ear.

"It's me. I'm the reason. I'm the correlation in all the accidents in the maze. Me."

"You're gonna have to explain." He frowned. His eyes darted back and forth, trying to figure out what I was saying. I finally ripped my eyes from the wood walls and looked at him.

"The Designers are trying to get me...to finish me. But I'm stubborn and don't die, and I'm too smart for their stupid machines. My partners are the ones who end up injured or maimed or dead." I explained, "I was none compliant, so they reset my mind a few times, I still fought it, they sent me to the maze for a month. Alone...maybe hoping I'd die. And then lived for more than two years in the worst possible conditions. All my Mapping partners refused to work with me after a while because more than any other girl, Grievers chased me."

Minho went to interrupt.

"No listen, Sparky." I said, placing my hand on his mouth. He took that wrist and kissed my palm, but he stayed quiet. I closed my eyes for a second, racked my fingers through my hair and exhaled.

"Weather the Designers meant me to be here or not... I'm here now, and you said Grievers only came out at night...the moment I show up they are out during the day, and who are they chasing? Me."

Minho opened his mouth and then closed it, he smirked at me. I looked at him confused.

"Well I knew you were special. Look at all the special attention you have." He said, raising an eyebrow. My blank face slowly lifted into a smirk of my own.

"Shucken rights I am!"

"My badass girlfriend... defier of death. She has the Creators pissed and probably scrambling."

"Well if you don't piss people off are you even living?"

He chuckled. I lost my smirk and cocked my head at him.

"It doesn't bother you though? I could go out there tomorrow and not come back...or I go out with another partner and they don't come back."

"You're my partner from now on. We do this together."

"That's a big risk, Min...I can do it myself, that way I only put myself at risk. I ran my maze alone, I can do it alone here."

"No." He shook his head, "Together or not at all."

"You bench me I'll just go out alone anyways. And you know the Slammer doesn't hold me. So Good luck." I smirked.

I sat watching him for a second. His face was set, jaw clenched and his eyes were steady though and he kept my gaze. He was serious, and I didn't see any hesitation. I nodded my head. He smirked at me, and then leaned forwards.

"No I ain't gonna bench you, Savage...I'm going with you 'cause I need my ninja girlfriend to protect me." He smirked against my lips.

I snorted, "Damn right you do."

He hummed and wrapped me up in a hug and kissed me, pushing me backwards on the bed. He pulled away and propped himself up, his elbows on either side of my head. He looked at me with mischief in his eyes.

"I've seen you fight a group of huge guys, but you held back...But with a jacked human who was actually trying to kill you...dang girl. That was legit some kinda ninja shit!"

"I told you shuckfaces I had skills, and I was better then you... you guys just don't believe me until you see it with your own eyes." I rolled my eyes.

"Well, it was shucken awesome." He smirked down at me, his eyes dancing over my face, "And your stone cold face this evening...you were calm and quiet but deadly, and I think that helped Alby." he paused, his voice dropped just slightly. "And me."

"It wasn't the first time I had to do something like that. I do what I have to. I don't like most of the guys here...I don't interact with 85% of them...but we get out together or were stuck in here together. I was also built not to break or loose."

"Oh, I know. When you first showed up you made me want to put my head through the wall!" He growled, pressing his face into my neck.

"And now?" I asked, running my hands into his hair, and gently pulling it, so he lifted his head and looked down at me, I gave him a sly smile as I looked up at him through my long lashes. I pulled his head back down and I gently pulled on his ear with my teeth, "What do I make you wanna do now?" I whispered seductively.

His pulled away and his eyes went dark, and his smirk went from amusement to a sexy cheeky one.

"Oh...I don't know if I should say it out loud.." He growled again.

"Then show me." I growled as I racked my nails slowly down his back.

"Shuck it woman..." He shivered, "you drive me crazy."

He got up and flicked the lock on our door. Turning around he pulled his shirt off in a swift movement he was back on top of me. I wrapped my arms and legs around him, and rolled him over.

"Oh, that's how its gonna be?" He muttered against my lips.

"Get used to loosing." I muttered back, as I kissed down his neck, I could feel his heart picking up speed and his chest was rising and falling faster the lower I kissed.

"Who says...I'm loosing?" He panted, his eyes dark with desire and a bit of playful amusement. I kissed his chest and I heard him groan, his hands tangled into my hair.  I left a trail of kisses down his chest and down his toned torso. He threw his head back, with a sharp intake of breath. Smirking at his reaction I did it again, this time I ran my hands across his belt line at the same time.

"Jess.." He moaned, as his hands tangled a bit more into my hair, and pulled gently.

"Yes?" I whispered.

"Stop...stop teasing." He whined, "Be nice."

"I'm never nice." I murmured against his bare torso, "And I'll keep teasing.." I ran my lips and tongue along his chest, "Until you're begging."

His body was shivering and shacking, every muscle was tense and flexed. I slowly moved down, kissing and running my tongue lower and lower. He threw his head back again his eyes rolling, and his back arching slightly.

"Jess..." he moaned. "Jess...fuck...Please...shuuuck...Please Jessie!"

I finally relented, and we gave in to our desires.

•×•

We lay beside each other panting hard. He pulled me closer and held me close. I rested my head on his bare chest. He drew circle on my bare back. We both lay quiet.

"Do you ever have regrets?" He suddenly asked.

"No."

"Really?" He asked picking his head up to look at me.

"Really. Regrets are usually mistakes. And I don't make mistakes, I make decisions. If those decisions don't work out then its a lesson to learn from."

"That was deep, Duchess." He paused and then hummed. "I like it. No regrets."

"None." I agreed.

There was frantic footsteps outside our door and then wild pounding.

"Guys?!" It was Newt he sounded panicked, "You guys in there?"

"Yeah, what's up?" Minho yelled as he jumped out of bed, pulling on some pants, I wrapped a blanket around myself quick, as Minho threw the door open.

"It's Chuck! Jessie! He needs you!"
