The footsteps keep getting closer. My hands start shaking beside my legs. I'm still sitting on the window sill when I hear the door knob make a weird sound. Somebody from the other side of the door turns it, starting to slowly open the door.

I quickly push my hands against the window sill, letting myself fly out of the window. It feels like I'm been falling forever. Once my feet finally hit the ground, I turn around and look at my window. I see that my bedroom light had been turned on.

I wonder who is in there. I turn back around and run as fast as I can to the forest behind my house. I keep running until I can't see my home, and the street lights no longer cast my shadow on the ground.

It's pitch black outside. Obviously, there's no street lights in the forest so I grab my flashlight out of my backpack. As I shine it around, I see a giant black figure running towards me. I think it's one of the monsters, but I only get a quick glance. It could be anyone, but still I take off running.

After a while of running, I see a ladder hanging down from the tree house me and Tess made as kids. I jump up towards the fourth ladder piece and pull myself the rest of the way in. I make it to the main platform and try to open the door. It won't open, so I start shaking it. I look down to see a lock. I forgot me and Tess always put our lock on it. I take a bobby pin out of my hair and shake it around inside the lock trying to get it open until I hear a click. It doesn't take me long, the little lock wasn't very good quality. We were given it as a toy when we were younger.

I pull the door open as fast as I can. I run in and slam the door behind me.  I decide to use the lock on the inside to lock myself in. A few seconds later I hear someone or something slam against the door.

I wait for the longest time. It's gone. It stopped hitting the door and nothing is there. There is no one here except me.

"It had to be one of the monsters!" I yell to myself and kick the wall. "Why does this have to happen to me? Can nobody else see them? Can I tell anyone about them? I'm scared." I say it aloud as if someone is there to hear me, to help me. No one is.

I curl up on the floor and fall asleep quickly.

I'm awake shivering on the floor, and it's bright outside again. Finally.

Before I leave I have to make myself look different. I can't just let myself be found. Not with these things following me around anyway. If I'm made to go home, they'll just follow me back there. Back to everyone important to me.

I grab my knife and start slicing off my long, wavy brown hair. It comes off very slowly, piece by piece. Knifes aren't supposed to be used for cutting hair like this. Especially this kind of knife. It's tedious, but I finally finish.

I unlock the lock to go back outside. Grabbing the door handle, open it and walk outside. I remember the slide me and Tess had put up. I use it so I can get down quicker. I slide down very slowly since it's a very tight little slide. I jump out of the slide at the bottom and start walking.

It's gonna be a long day.

I slowly get distracted from many red and yellow leaves falling from the trees as I walk through the forest. The crunching of the leaves under my feet and my short breaths are the only noises I can hear. A cold, hard wind blows by as a shiver rushes through my body.

After walking for another hour I get cell service again. Messages just started piling into my phone and it wouldn't stop vibrating. I check my lock screen and the first message I see is from my mom. I don't even read the message before I shut down my phone so everything will stop.

I come across a river, it's too fast and deep to walk through. It doesn't look like there's anywhere close to get around it. I start walking up stream of the river.

Let's see where this takes me.

I finally find a road that doesn't look like a highway. I believe its just a back road, but there's so many cars. I hope I don't get seen by anyone I know!

I look to my right and see a huge green sign that reads, 'National Park 5Km Ahead'.
