1- Tess?
*about one month later*
"Liberty?" My teacher calls out my name during our class attendance.
"Here, Ms. Carlton!" I mumble, still tired from having just woken up.
As Ms. Carlton continues doing attendance, I begin talking about our school project with Tess. It's in partners, and is due at the end of the month. It's a big one so it counts for quite a few marks. I really hope I'll be able to do it well.
I check the clock and notice lunch break is approaching quickly. I mean, it is already third period and we only have five in a school day. Each period is about an hour long.
"So Tess, you're coming to my house after school to work on our project right?" I whisper to her as Ms Carlton explains our classwork for today.
"Liberty! Please just stop. We can talk about it at lunch.... Okay?" She snaps and proceeds to roll her eyes and look back at the board.
"Okay..." I say cautiously.
Tess seems to be different today, she's never acted like this before. It's very strange. She normally is very kind, no matter what. Right now she's been snapping a lot. I hope she's alright.
The bell goes off for lunch. Tess grabs all of her classwork and binders. She practically runs out of the class room. I can't help but wonder what's up with her today. Normally she waits patiently for me and she's always so happy all the time.
I run, trying to catch up to her. "Hey! Tess what's up? You've never acted like this before. Is everything okay?"
She doesn't say anything. She just ignores me until we arrive at our lockers. There's an awkward silence before I decide to say something. "Tess?" I whisper.
"WHAT DO YOU WANT, LIBERTY?" She yells and throws her arms up into the air, making a scene.
Looking down at my hands I mumble, "Sorry." I feel tears form at the corners of my eyes.
Tess starts to walks away. I decide that I should follow. Maybe she'll tell me what's wrong. She stops walking in the middle of the hallway. Her face looks blank, entire body numb. I notice that she looks like she's about to fall over, swaying gently to the side. I quickly put my hands on her shoulders to help keep her up.
After a few seconds, out of the corner of my eye I notice a figure walking towards us. It looks like it's coming for Tess. It looks like it's coming to kill her. She can't die! My eyes widen and I push Tess away from the figure so that it can't kill her. I yell, "WATCH OUT!" The figure disappears into nowhere.
She stumbles backwards and falls to the ground. Her eyes widen from the shock of me pushing her. All the students stand around, watching what happened. Their faces show confusion. But didn't they see it?
That's when I realize I was the only one that saw the figure. Nobody else saw it. That is terrifying. What if it comes back to kill everyone?
"WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU LIBERTY?!"
Tess screams at me.
