Chapter 13: Logistics, Walk, Caught, and FOB...

The sun was beginning its descent on a clear Friday afternoon at the Forward Operating Base near Beacon. The atmosphere was calm but charged with the sense of duty that characterized the daily routines of the Marines stationed there. Staff Sergeant Anthony Towson and Staff Sergeant Jie Ling, both respected and seasoned in their roles, were summoned to the office of Lieutenant Colonel Johann Bauer.

[Jie Ling: A Chinese Marine Corps, Staff Sergeant, 27 years old, 6'1", and a muscular woman]

As they approached the office, the two staff sergeants exchanged a look of mutual respect. Towson, known for his unwavering resolve and leadership, and Jie Ling, renowned for her strength and tactical acumen, were both key figures in their units.

"Staff Sergeants Towson and Ling reporting as ordered, sir," Anthony said, standing at attention as they entered the office.

Lieutenant Colonel Johann Bauer looked up from his desk, a map of the base and surrounding areas spread out before him. He was a tall German man with a commanding presence, his sharp eyes reflecting years of military experience. He gestured for them to relax.

"At ease, both of you," Bauer said, leaning back in his chair. "I've got a new assignment that requires your expertise. We're conducting a comprehensive logistics check at the armory. There have been some discrepancies in the inventory reports, and we need to ensure everything is accounted for and in proper order."

Anthony nodded, understanding the importance of the task. "Understood, sir. We'll make sure everything is thoroughly checked and reported."

Jie Ling added, "We'll coordinate with the armory personnel and conduct a full audit. Any discrepancies will be identified and rectified."

Bauer handed them a folder containing the assignment details. "I've included the current inventory reports and the previous month's data for comparison. You'll also find a list of all personnel with access to the armory. Cross-reference everything and ensure there's no unauthorized access or missing equipment."

"Will do, sir," Anthony replied, taking the folder.

Bauer stood up, signaling the end of the briefing. "I trust both of you to handle this efficiently. If you find anything unusual, report back to me immediately. Dismissed."

As they left the office, Anthony and Jie Ling discussed their plan of action.

"We'll start with the most recent inventory and work our way back," Anthony suggested. "Divide the tasks between us to cover more ground quickly."

Jie Ling nodded in agreement. "I'll handle the firearms and ammunition. You take care of the explosives and specialized equipment. We can cross-check our findings at the end of each day."

With their plan set, they headed towards the armory, their minds focused on the task ahead. The armory was a crucial part of the FOB's operations, and ensuring its integrity was paramount to maintaining the base's readiness and security.

As they began their audit, meticulously checking each item and verifying it against the records, they knew that their thoroughness could make all the difference. Whether it was uncovering a simple clerical error or something more sinister, Anthony and Jie Ling were determined to ensure that every piece of equipment was accounted for and that the armory remained secure.

As the two marines were checking each item and verifying it, Anthony double-takes at something he seen on the internet and museums.

"Is that a M16A4?"

He said picking it up and getting Jie's attention, "Shit, my grandpa three of these fuckers at his house."

"But is a fourth generation of the M16 series that was adopted in 1997 here?" Jie asked making Anthony look at with a 'how the hell you know that?' look, "I was bored one time in high school and looked it up. Especially hearing about sixth generation of the M16 series that was adopted in last year(2069( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°))."

Anthony carefully picked up the M16A4, inspecting it closely. The rifle seemed out of place among the more advanced weaponry that filled the armory. He glanced at Jie, who had a look of equal parts curiosity and understanding.

"Yeah, this is definitely an M16A4," Anthony confirmed, his voice tinged with nostalgia. "Classic piece, but seeing it here is surprising. I didn't expect to find something this old in our armory."

Jie shrugged, a small smile playing on her lips. "Guess it shows how thorough we need to be with this audit. If an M16A4 made its way in here, who knows what else we might find?"

Anthony placed the rifle back on the rack, shaking his head slightly. "Let's make sure we note this down. We need to figure out how and why it's here. Could be a simple mix-up, or it might point to bigger inventory issues."

They continued their work, meticulously checking each item and making notes of any irregularities. The armory was a maze of weapons, ammunition, and equipment, and the task required all their attention and expertise.

After a few hours of diligent work, they gathered their notes and cross-checked their findings. Anthony looked up from his clipboard, his brow furrowed. "So far, we've found a few more anomalies, but nothing too alarming. Mostly older models mixed in with the newer gear. Still, it's enough to raise some questions."

Jie nodded, scanning her own notes. "Agreed. It seems like an issue with record-keeping or maybe even supply chain errors. Either way, we need to get to the bottom of it."

Anthony sighed, thinking about the next steps. "We should report our initial findings to Lieutenant Colonel Bauer. He needs to know about the discrepancies, especially if there's a chance of outdated or unauthorized equipment slipping through the cracks."

They gathered their reports and made their way back to Bauer's office. As they entered, Bauer looked up from his desk, sensing the seriousness of their expressions.

"Lieutenant Colonel, we've completed the preliminary audit," Anthony began, handing over the folder. "We found a few irregularities, including older weapon models like the M16A4 mixed in with the current inventory. It suggests some issues with the supply chain or record-keeping."

Bauer flipped through the report, his face growing more concerned. "This is troubling. We can't afford to have such lapses in our armory, especially not with the security risks we face here."

Jie added, "We recommend a deeper investigation into the supply chain and a thorough review of the personnel who have access to the armory. There might be more discrepancies we haven't uncovered yet."

Bauer nodded, his mind already working on the next steps. "Good work, both of you. I'll escalate this to the higher-ups and ensure we get to the bottom of this. In the meantime, continue your audit and keep a close eye on any further irregularities."

Anthony and Jie left the office, ready to dive back into their task. The discovery of the M16A4 had been a surprising twist, but it only strengthened their resolve to ensure the armory's integrity. They knew that the security of the base depended on their vigilance and thoroughness.

The sun had dipped below the horizon, casting a warm, orange glow over the FOB as Anthony and Jie made their way through the base. The air was cool, a gentle breeze rustling the leaves of the trees lining the path. Jie asked Anthony a some request, "Say Towson, want to walk together at the Beacon Courtyard?"

Anthony being the single, 27 year old, 6'5" tall, Trinidadian-American, gentleman, with a pale white right eye and a Dark brown left eye, with short dreads looked at Chinese tall muscular woman and said, "Yeah okay," he agreed with a smile. "A walk sounds nice."

They walked in companionable silence for a while, the soft crunch of gravel under their boots the only sound. The base was calming down for the night, the frenetic energy of the day giving way to a more relaxed atmosphere. As they approached the Beacon Courtyard, the lights from the academy provided a gentle illumination, casting long shadows and creating a serene ambiance.

"So," Anthony began, breaking the silence, "what's on your mind, Jie?"

Jie looked up at the night sky, the stars beginning to twinkle. "Just thinking about everything we've been through. This place, our mission, the people we've met. It's a lot to take in sometimes."

Anthony nodded, understanding her sentiment. "Yeah, it's definitely been a whirlwind. But we've made a lot of progress. And it's good to have someone to share it with."

Jie smiled, her eyes reflecting the soft light. "I'm glad you're here, Anthony. It's nice to have a friend to talk to. And... maybe more than a friend."

Anthony looked at her, surprised but pleased. "More than a friend, huh? I'd like that, Jie."

They continued walking, the conversation flowing easily between them. They talked about their lives before enlistment, their hopes for the future, and the bond they had developed over their time together. The courtyard was quiet, the only sounds being their voices and the distant hum of the base.

As they reached the center of the courtyard, Jie stopped and turned to face Anthony. "You know, Towson, I've always admired your strength and your kindness. It's not easy being out here, but you make it feel... manageable."

Anthony smiled, reaching out to take her hand. "Thanks, Jie. That means a lot. You've been my rock out here too. I don't know what I'd do without you."

They stood there for a moment, hand in hand, the weight of their responsibilities feeling a little lighter. The stars above seemed to shine a bit brighter, and for the first time in a long while, they felt a sense of peace and hope for the future.

"Let's keep walking," Anthony suggested. "There's still so much to see."

Jie nodded, squeezing his hand. "Yeah, let's do that. Together."

And with that, they continued their stroll through the courtyard, their steps in sync, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead, knowing they had each other to rely on.

"Excuse me?" Someone called out behind them and approached them. It was a wolf Faunus.

"Yeah, what's up?" Anthony spoke letting Jie's hand go.

"You have the time? I think I'm late for a meet up with friends..." The Faunus said rubbing the back of his head.

Both Anthony's and Jie's eyes narrowed at the Faunus. But Anthony answered, "0658."

The Faunus was a little confused, "But you didn't look at your watch?"

"Don't need to. After all this a THIRD CRUSADE watch." Anthony said as the wolf Faunus has a shocked look and ears flatten. "White Fang-no. Adam's spy right?" Anthony spoke as unhostled his M17A3 pistol.

Jie quietly speaks in a earpiece, "神射手小隊瞄準任何手持武器、戴著白牙面具接近我們的人。 (Marksmen teams, aim for any individuals that approach us with weapons in hand and White Fang masks.)" She unhostles her pistol.

The wolf Faunus didn't understand what Jie said but was scared that his cover was blown.

The wolf Faunus's ears flattened against his head as fear flashed across his eyes. He took a cautious step back, sensing the immediate threat from both Anthony and Jie.

"Look, I don't want any trouble," he stammered, his voice trembling. "I'm just here to meet some friends."

Anthony kept his pistol steady, his gaze unwavering. "Friends with Adam Taurus? We know what you're here for."

The courtyard, once serene, now felt tense and dangerous. The presence of Jie and Anthony's pistols, the mention of the marksmen teams, and the overall situation had the Faunus cornered. He knew he had to think quickly.

Jie moved a step closer, her eyes sharp and focused. "We've had enough of the White Fang's tricks. Now, you're going to tell us everything, starting with your name and what exactly you're doing here."

The Faunus swallowed hard, his mind racing. He raised his hands slowly, palms open to show he was unarmed. "My name is Kyros. Yes, I work for Adam, but I was sent to gather information, nothing more. Please, I don't want any trouble."

Anthony narrowed his eyes, not fully convinced. "Information for what? And who are these friends you're meeting?"

Kyros took a deep breath, realizing his options were limited. "I'm supposed to meet a contact to exchange intel on the base's defenses. They want to know how to infiltrate and sabotage operations here. But I swear, I don't want any part in hurting people. I was just following orders."

Jie nodded slightly, signaling to Anthony. "Fine. You'll take us to your contact. Any funny business, and you'll regret it."

Anthony holstered his pistol but kept his hand close, ready to draw at a moment's notice. Jie followed suit, and they began to move, flanking Kyros as they led him towards the supposed meeting spot.

As they walked, Anthony spoke quietly into his own earpiece, "HQ, this is Towson. We have a possible White Fang operative in custody. Proceeding to a rendezvous point to intercept additional contacts. Over."

The response crackled in his ear, "Roger that, Towson. Backup is on standby. Stay alert."

Kyros led them through the base, his nervousness palpable. Jie and Anthony remained vigilant, scanning the area for any signs of an ambush. The base's lights cast long shadows, creating an eerie atmosphere as they approached the designated meeting point.

Kyros stopped near a secluded section of the base. "This is it," he whispered, his voice shaky. "They should be here any moment now."

Anthony and Jie positioned themselves strategically, using Kyros as bait while ensuring they had clear lines of sight. Minutes passed in tense silence until the sound of footsteps reached their ears.

A group of three figures approached, their silhouettes becoming clearer under the base's lights. They wore the unmistakable masks of the White Fang, and their posture indicated they were armed and ready.

"Now," Jie whispered into her earpiece, and the marksmen teams took their positions, unseen but ready to act.

One of the masked figures stepped forward, noticing Kyros with Anthony and Jie. "Kyros, who are these people?" the figure demanded, suspicion lacing their voice.

Kyros gulped, glancing nervously at Anthony and Jie. "They're... they're UNE soldiers. They found me before I could meet you."

The tension in the air was thick, the potential for violence imminent. Anthony stepped forward, his hand resting near his holstered pistol. "Drop your weapons and surrender. There's no way out of this."

The masked figures hesitated, their eyes darting around, assessing the situation. It was clear they were outmatched and outgunned. Finally, one of them lowered their weapon, followed by the others.

"Fine," the leader of the group said, their voice resigned. "We surrender."

Anthony and Jie moved in, securing the weapons and taking the captives into custody. As they led them back to the base, Jie whispered to Anthony, "Good work. Let's hope this is the start of unraveling Adam's network."

Anthony nodded, his resolve firm. "One step at a time. We'll get there."

As they returned to the base with their prisoners, the sky above began to darken, the stars starting to peek through. The path ahead was uncertain, but for now, they had won a small victory in the ongoing struggle against the White Fang.

The next day, the marines sat in a loose circle, the crates they had strategically relocated from Glenn Base serving as makeshift tables and chairs. The setting sun cast a warm glow over the FOB near Beacon, and the air was filled with the sounds of the evening: distant calls of wildlife, the murmur of marines exchanging banter, and the occasional clang of metal as the base's routine continued.

Anthony, David, Mari, Igor, Shino, and Jie, along with her team, were all gathered, enjoying a moment of respite.

[Jie's team: A Chinese Marine, named Sergeant Kang Tao, 22 years old 6ft tall man. A 21 years old, 5'8" tall, Lance-Corporal in the German Marine Corps named Felix Bauer Lieutenant Colonel Johann Bauer's son. A ROKMC Corporal named Dae Cho, 20 years old, 6'5" tall, slender woman. And a USMC Lance-Corporal named Michael Blacker, 24 years old 5'9" athlete built man.]

Sitting outside eating Air Force MREs that they Strategic Transfered of Equipment to Alternate Location from Glenn Base. The Air Force MREs might not have been gourmet, but they provided a semblance of comfort and routine amidst their chaotic duties.

Anthony opened his MRE, chuckling as he read the label. "Chicken with noodles. Not bad," he said, digging in. "Better than some of the rations I've had before."

Jie nodded, taking a bite of her own meal. "Could be worse," she agreed, her tone light. "At least it's not one of those horror story MREs you hear about."

Sergeant Kang Tao, the Chinese Marine, was seated nearby, methodically eating his food. "At least we have something to eat," he said pragmatically, looking around at the others. "And the company is good."

Felix Bauer, the young German Marine, laughed. "I never thought I'd be eating MREs on a crate labeled 'Hentai' in a place like this," he said, shaking his head. "My father would have a fit if he saw this."

"Why the hell do we have a crate labeled 'Hentai' anyway?" Dae Cho, the slender Korean Marine, asked, raising an eyebrow. "Is it some kind of joke?"

Michael Blacker, the USMC Lance-Corporal, shrugged, a mischievous grin on his face. "Probably some inside joke or mislabeling. Either way, it's a good conversation starter."

Shino, ever the quiet observer, looked at the crate thoughtfully. "Let's just hope it's a joke," she said, her voice tinged with amusement.

Mari leaned back, her eyes scanning the horizon. "It's moments like these that remind me why I joined," she said softly. "Not the food or the jokes, but the camaraderie. Being part of something bigger."

David nodded in agreement, taking a sip from his canteen. "It's the little things that keep us going. Sharing a meal, even an MRE, and just talking. It makes all the difference."

The group fell into a comfortable silence, the shared understanding and bond between them evident. The clear blue sky was providing a tranquil backdrop to their gathering.

Igor broke the silence, his deep voice carrying a note of nostalgia. "Back home, we used to sit around the fire and tell stories. This reminds me of that. Different setting, but same feeling."

Anthony smiled, looking around at his team. "Yeah, it does. And who knows? Maybe one day we'll look back on this and laugh about the crate labeled 'Hentai' and the MREs."

Jie raised her canteen, a gesture quickly mirrored by the others. "To the little things," she said, her voice steady and warm. "And to the bonds we forge along the way."

"To the little things," the others echoed, clinking their canteens together in a toast. As they returned to their meals, the camaraderie among them grew stronger, a beacon of hope and unity in a world filled with uncertainty and challenges.

It was then saw Teams RWBY and JNPR enter the FOB.

"Oh hey look it's Teams RWBY and JNPR." Michael called out.

"Oh cool." David said as the ten marines took a sip of canteens...

Anthony, David, Mari, Igor, Shino, Jie, Kang, Felix, Dae, and Michael:

Then spit-take in shock. "TEAMS RWBY AND JNPR?!!?" Anthony, David, Mari, Igor, Shino, Jie, Kang, Felix, Dae, and Michael shouted in unison and rushed to the group of unsupervised teens. Until they saw Glynda Goodwitch with Lieutenant Colonel Bauer not fear behind easing their worries.

"Hey guys! And..." Nora glances at Jie, Kang, Felix, Dae, and Michael. "Guys we haven't met yet!"

"Hey Nora." Mari said rubbing Nora's head.

"Fath-Sir, what's with the civilians?" Felix asked Lieutenant Colonel Bauer about Teams RWBY and JNPR and Goodwitch doing at the FOB on a 11:23 AM Saturday morning.

Lieutenant Colonel Bauer exchanged a quick glance with Glynda Goodwitch before addressing his son and the assembled marines. "These aren't just civilians, Felix. These young huntsmen and huntresses are part of a special operation we've coordinated with Beacon Academy."

Goodwitch stepped forward, her usual stern expression softened slightly. "Indeed. Teams RWBY and JNPR are here as part of an exchange program. They're to observe and understand the tactics and operations of the UNE forces, which will help in future collaborations and strengthen our joint efforts against the Grimm and other threats."

Nora beamed, practically bouncing with excitement. "We're here to learn and help out! And maybe try some of those cool MREs you guys have!"

Yang punched the air with enthusiasm. "Yeah! And we get to see some awesome military gear up close. It's going to be epic!"

Anthony, still processing the sudden presence of the two most famous teams from Beacon, shook his head in amusement. "Well, this is a surprise. Welcome, everyone."

Mari chuckled, giving Ruby a friendly pat on the back. "You guys are in for a treat. And maybe a bit of hard work."

Igor, always the pragmatic one, looked at Lieutenant Colonel Bauer. "What's the plan for today, sir? Should we integrate them into our routine or give them a tour first?"

Lieutenant Colonel Bauer nodded. "First, a tour. They need to get familiar with the FOB's layout and our operations. After that, we can decide on specific training exercises and collaborations."

Glynda addressed the students. "Remember, you're here to learn. Follow orders and absorb as much as you can. This experience will be invaluable in your future missions."

Ruby, her eyes sparkling with curiosity and determination, nodded eagerly. "We won't let you down, Professor Goodwitch."

As the group began the tour, Anthony fell in step with Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang. Jie walked alongside Pyrrha, Ren, Jaune, and Nora, introducing them to the various sections of the FOB. The marines explained the purpose of each area, from the armory to the medical bay, and highlighted the importance of each in maintaining the base's operational efficiency.

Kang Tao, explained the functionality of the automated .50cal BMG turrets and the strategic placement of landmines to Jaune, who listened with wide-eyed interest. "These measures are crucial for our perimeter defense. Keeps the Grimm and other threats at bay," Kang said, his tone matter-of-fact.

Dae Cho, showed Blake the advanced communication systems they used to coordinate with Glenn Base and other outposts. "Staying connected and informed is key to our success," Dae explained, her slender figure moving gracefully among the equipment.

Felix and Michael took Pyrrha and Ren to the vehicle bay, where they marveled at the helicopters and transport vehicles. "These babies can get us in and out of hot zones quickly," Michael said, patting the side of a helicopter. "And they're equipped for both transport and attack missions."

As they moved through the base, the students asked questions, soaking in the wealth of knowledge being shared. The marines, initially surprised by the presence of the young huntsmen and huntresses, soon found themselves impressed by their enthusiasm and quick learning.

By the time the tour concluded, the sun was high in the sky, and the group gathered back at the central courtyard. Lieutenant Colonel Bauer addressed everyone. "Alright, now that you've had a chance to see the FOB, we'll split into teams for some hands-on training. Teams RWBY and JNPR, you'll be paired with our marines to participate in various drills and exercises. This will not only give you a taste of our operations but also help us learn from your unique skills and abilities."

Glynda nodded in agreement. "This cooperation is a step toward a stronger alliance. Let's make the most of it."

Ruby, her face lit with determination, raised her hand. "We're ready, sir! Let's do this!"

With that, the groups broke off, each ready to learn, teach, and strengthen the bonds between the UNE forces and Beacon Academy's best. The day promised to be filled with hard work, new experiences, and the forging of new alliances in the fight against the Grimm and beyond.
