Saved by a 'mere human' woman and saved by a mutant.
At Randy's house, 8p.m...
"That's his abilities." Randy's family seemed stunned by my response, so I spoke in honesty: "Logan can heal and fight like a warrior. And the rest...I'm not sure." We had just finished dinner, and I was drinking Hennessy beer quietly until Erica's mom continued cleaning the dishes:
"You seem to know about mutants, Sasha." Randy smiled a bit, "Guess you came in handy on what we are dealing with." I chuckled and got up: "I took biology a bit with my older sister, in case it became useful then, and got in deep with criminology as my favorite major, so I research the dark web and the news about them, of course, their heroes, but there are also anti-heroes like the Brotherhood."
After that, I decided to take another beer from the fridge and hand it to Logan, who was sleeping in Erica's room, since she insisted on showing him her hospitality skills, which I'll admit was adorable and the kindest thing to do.
I watched Erica with one glance, in case something happened, until she came closer with a glass of water in hand, so close that it was then that he jolted up and almost came to strike at her. To my surprise, she blinked in shock but stood calm and put his claws down:
"It's okay, you're safe now," Erica spoke gently; I smiled softly at the kindness that I had taught her before I met her and took a glance at Logan's face. to be honest, it was saddening me that he placed a hand over his head, "Sorry. Where am I?"
This is where I come in: "In Erica's summer house. We brought you something to drink, beer?" "Or water?" Both of us smiled as Logan drank the beer, to our astonishment, but his expression still felt hesitant about being in the room with us:
"You're getting better really fast, y'know." Erica points out, while Logan continues and finishes drinking the glass of water without saying another word, "That's good." She continues, "Because you wouldn't want to go to the hospital."
"Your dad is a smart man." Logan wipes his mouth with his arm and looks down at the kid with a scowl, which I can relate to. No one is safe around people who are nice and kind to you. Otherwise, they might end up being experimented on or receiving a 'reverse-psychology treatment'. I can't shake the ominous feeling about something that is about to happen real soon.
Thoughts get interrupted when a phone call rings from downstairs, Erica turns around to take the empty glass, "I better go." She continues: "I'm not supposed to be in here bothering you. Hey, Miss Sasha?"
"Yes, Erica?"
"Can you keep him company? So that he doesn't seem lonelier than you are right now." Her words took me and Logan by surprise at the idea; we made eye contact for a moment with curiosity about it.
Until I realized that Logan's blue eyes were staring at me like bullets, I almost felt my cheeks burn as I got nervous, "I-I'm not lonely, Erica." I continue by kneeling at her level: "I have my older sister and that's all it matters now, go on before I change my mind." I ruffled her hair, causing her to giggle at my left, walking out of the room, "Okay... but at least try to know him; imagine it like a blind date."
Erica gave me one last teasing smile, which made Logan stiffen a little, but he seemed more relaxed, and I sighed in defeat: "Only if he doesn't mind." As soon as she left the room, a little commotion happened outside the room while Erica closed the room for me to keep Logan company, as another wave of familiarity started to rise once more until I said:
"She seems to like you, Logan." Logan looked at me with confusion, but I cleared it out. "Erica. She likes meeting new people other than her neighbors and classmates, but when I became her babysitter, she often worried about me being alone since I'm not a fan of making new friends because it gets difficult to befriend me."
"I hear ya, bub." Logan started on saying while I listened to him, "It's kinda like how I was back before the X-Men was destroyed; people like you would need guts to even try and get to know me well enough to not mess with me."
He paused and went on saying: "If that someone you know could start as your friend to whom you don't even know if their the good guys or the bad guys. Just step back and don't leave them out of your life." He finished as I sat down on his right side, without knowing that I was smiling softly at his wise words while thinking about Erica's words as they kind of exposed my personal feelings for being alone:
"I agree, but you know you seem to be non-wiser than anyone I met."
"Was it obvious?"
I nodded: "Yes, because you seem to know it by experience."
His blue eyes widened at something before he sighed with a frown, "You could say that..."
And just like that, we both stayed silent. Suddenly, Logan sighed before he stood up and peeked at something at the window: "What's wrong?" I asked, a bit confused by his actions. He turned around, as I did the same, to see the curtains were moving, which alerted me that the MRD was here. Getting up, Logan grabbed me by the wrist: "Where are you going?"
"I'm going out with Erica and her family," I continue to wave his grip out of my wrist: "In case, something happens. You better hide before someone sees you." Hesitant by my words, he gritted his teeth and looked away before he let me go, I went straight outside to protect Erica and noticed a couple of MRD soldiers pointing out their guns at us while the other ones busted out the door to inspect the place.
Randy didn't show fear as his wife was the opposite, she was scared just like her daughter was, Erica, hugged my leg and whispered, "I'm scared, Miss Sasha."
I hate seeing someone get easily frightened by a child like this. It breaks my heart to see Erica in this state, but even so, I softly smile before kneeling to her level, hugging her tightly, and lifting her so she doesn't get scared: "Hey, it's gonna be fine." I continue, "I promise we can end this with a negotiation."
It made her smile weakly, but I knew it was gonna take a while to end the interrogation until a man came towards us: "Where is he?" "Where's who?" Randy spoke in a lie, holding no fear, and I noticed the expression of this white-haired man who narrowed his eyes as they landed on me by putting me to the ground away from Erica.
I get punched and gutted into my ribcage by one of the soldiers as I feel it crack and cough out blood, "Perhaps...I'll ask again. But, this time, I'll ask your babysitter." He grabs my hair in a tight grip by forcing me to walk but throws me to the ground until I got lifted to look directly into his eyes; if I weren't using the device that Betty had right now, I would be healing and kicking every soldier's ass in one swing:
"Where is Wolverine or does she die?" I widen my brown eyes at the sight of the gun, only to growl in anger when it got pointed close to my forehead as my knees got kneeled by force. Not showing any tears or weakness, I glanced at Erica's family, already fearing for my safety, but gave them a weak smile by mouthing to Erica: "It is going to be okay."
Already then met white eyes with mine, closing my eyes as I returned to stare at the man: "If I knew where his razor guy was, I would tell you, but, instead, you're pointing your gun at me. I dared him, "Well? Go on, shoot me."
"Sasha! No!"
"Leave her alone!" The MRD soldiers moved them away as their commander, which I learned from one of the soldiers saying earlier, I push my head closer to the gun: "Are you a coward? Because I ain't afraid of death." "Wish you luck in hell then." As soon as he was about to pull the trigger without remorse, everyone heard an animalistic roar.
In a sudden turn of events, Logan/Wolverine growled and roared as he lunged to save me from the soldier grabbing me. Afterward, he came to check on me, "You okay?" he demanded. "Ngh! Yup, just peachy, jackass," I shot back, noticing that someone was ready to punch him, and I began gathering all my strength; I round-kicked the faces of three soldiers away from him, catching Logan off guard.
With an eye roll, I continued to fight back: "What? Never seen a woman fight before?"
"You're one to talk to, sweetheart."
"Oh, shut up!" I punch the soldier in the face with my fist since Logan dodges before he smirks, but his eyes furrow at me, "You're injured, Bub! Stop it." "Nah-uh!" I gritted my teeth to a firm happy smile while fighting back, and we both started fighting them off with his claws and my "human" strength, we almost felt like a team.
That is, until Logan got electrocuted: "Wolverine! Urk!" I get a tranquilizer shot into my neck, trying to reach him weakly, but it all went into darkness before I knew I was getting dragged and thrown into a van.
At the MRD facility...
My eyes fluttered open when I realized someone shook me awake and saw Erica and her parents, "Omg! Erica, are you okay-NGH? Ow!" "Hey there, easy." Randy's wife spoke before her husband checked on my ribs, which I hissed in pain, and I noticed that Erica held my hand as I held her small ones.
Which lessens the pain a bit, upon realizing that we were inside a cell and it gets worse, a couple of mutants were also in one of these cells. It made my blood run cold, 'So...this is the MRD Facility that my sister warned me about. I guess Death has other ideas.' "Your ribs are cracked, but since you coughed out blood, it might worsen if we don't get you medical attention right now."
"Thanks...but I think I can handle myself," I grunted before I coughed more blood as I tried to steady my breath from the cracked bones inside my body. It felt like it was poking a hole in my lungs to kill me. Martha soothed me and kept helping me to relax my breathing, which helped, until a couple of soldiers walked in: "Tell me about the mutant."
I was breathing heavily from the amount of pain coming from my ribs as I watched with the help of Martha's husband, Randy, and Erica stood up in sadness before she told him off, "We don't know what you're talking about." "His name is Wolverine."
The man in the shadows spoke: "And he is very dangerous." I smirked at Erica's achievement for standing her ground just like I taught her, and I pushed myself up to stand up, "He ngh! Is not." "Yes, he is." The man revealed himself to be bald, his face scarred by three claws as I assumed that it was Logan, A.K.A. Wolverine, who beat his ass.
It happened so fast that I was the one to be dragged out of the cell, away from the family I began to care as my friends. The general of MRD brought me into a room with a chair, I got chained and trapped into the chair as I got terrified of the machinery above me; Apparently, what got me scared was the fact that the device that my sister gave me would worsen 10 times more as I felt my eyes get covered and I heard this:
"You will be punished. Now cooperate." A shot of electricity from my eyes started to burn me. I screamed in pain, but I never let my tears fall until...
Start a flashback⚠️
Memories...
I slowly open my eyes after staying unconscious for the past few hours before I notice that I am held inside a water tube and widen my eyes at the needles tapped into my skin while I try to struggle to get out of it with my claws; Which were a mistake, I fail as I continue struggling to break free from the cuffs.
Without caring about my surroundings, I was about to give up hope when suddenly, she saw someone running towards me; he stared. I know he is a guy because he is topless, but I couldn't see his face because of the blur and bubbles floating upwards as I watched myself trying to tell him something, and my wish was granted. He destroyed the glass while it shatters making me gasp for air when I fell onto his muscular arms and looked up to see him: "-----....I-" Then it ended there.
⚠️End of flashback...
I gasped until something fell off from behind my ear, as the general of the MRD smirked by holding out the device, which I struggled to break free: "Interesting device, I see."
"Grrrr! Let it go!"
"Oh? Why should I, Sasha? Or should I say, Commander Ross's disowned youngest daughter?"
His words were like venom, but the moment he destroyed the device and said my title of disownment, I froze in fear as a million bricks had fallen on top of me; I heard him laugh evilly. Still, I didn't give a damn as I took in deep breaths and coughed out the blood on his face, which caused him to slam my head hard against the sensory assault helmet.
Remembering the training I had with Dr. Banner and Betty when I started asking them to test me on how much I could bear the torture and machines that the MRD could use on me in case something like this happened.
Sadly, I didn't have time to fight back because the general did a pretty good job at keeping his house guest 'comfortable,' "Y'know about this thing, don't you? I wonder..." He walked around me, and I glared at him and felt my ribs slowly healing, making me feel worse that sooner or later, I would be exposed to the MRD of my mutation side being shown; the last thing I need is my dad finding out about it.
"He knows your mutant secret." I snapped my head around slowly before laughing like a joker on a holiday, "R-Really? Please ngh! How can I be a mutant when I am ngh *coughs more* am struggling to breathe when my ribs and lungs cannot properly function without any ngh!! Freaking proof!?"
"That's the thing, we have the proof just from this device that I destroyed." He smirked before he slapped me, making me spit out the blood from my lips, "Y-You wouldn't!" "Oh? I'm not bluffing, dear. Just simply handling business. More power." Screaming in agony, I could still feel the ribs almost healing, but then, everything went so fast that I was thrown to the wall of the cell where Erica and her parents rushed to my side: "SASHA!"
"You are animals! We don't know anything!" Randy's wife yelled in defense. I struggled to get up, but my body was weak. As soon as I was about to collapse, I felt Randy holding me up in a sitting position; luckily, I had an extra emergency device tucked secretly inside Erica's sleeve where it stopped my powers from healing me:
"Perhaps not, but she might." Before the MRD soldiers could take Erica, something pushed them away, and I heard an unfamiliar voice, "How about you?" He continues: "The easy way? Or the hard way?" "Ngh! Neither... bitch." I started coughing loudly for the 4th time and gripped around my ribs to calm down, and then, I heard the familiar growl from out of nowhere as I crawled my weak arms near enough to spot a furry blue beast and Wolverine standing next to him:
"Logan!..." That's when hell broke loose; I pushed myself up to get a clear view of the MRD General v.s. Wolverine, who fought him and defeated the guy by huffing out an angry tone, "Hard way it is."
All of a sudden, he slaps the guy hard in the face and he gets knocked out: "Now, I want you to leave this nice family and their babysitter alone, got it?" Logan glared. Until he leaves to go and runs to my side by lifting me, "You asshole... I ngh, wanted to do the slap ngh! And torture the man!"
"Hey, sweetheart. You'll get your chance next time, but now, you are my priority. You ok?"
"Ngh! No...the r-ribs it-" I struggle to breathe. Logan shushed me to calm down.
"I know," Logan carries me bridal style. He lifts a bit of my hair behind my ear, which makes me comfortable, and I blush at the touch. We shook it off while he started running and fighting at the same time as I held onto his suit for dear life in hopes that he didn't know about my injuries: "You know how to ngh! Fly this thing?"
I asked in a grunt, which made Logan smirk with his wink and turn to wave at his companion: "Got in. Now, It's okay, dear." The blue man furry beast named Hank checks up on me carefully, "Where does it hurt?"
"Ngh, my ribs..." I gripped my ribs on my seat next to Logan while being examined a bit by Hank since Logan was busy fighting alongside the mutants and also saving Erica's family from harm's way: "Okay, fear not, I'm a professional scientist and doctor, so I won't harm you." Hank reassured me as I chuckled but coughed, "How can ngh I be fearful when you work for Wolverine?"
"Fair point. Now that we're in the chopper, you might want to hold on." He motioned the number of mutants inside the chopper as Erica and her family sat around me to protect me.
Later, we escaped as I let the helicopter door go by, closing it immediately, and sat down next to Logan, with my face going into deep thought: 'What the heck was that memory anyway???... I turned to glance at him before helping others: 'Should I ask or tell? No, for now, I keep it to myself until I'm ready.'
I shook my thoughts away and continued to stare out the window where the night sky showed a beautiful sight while many things were coming my way. I hoped that I would find out more about how it triggered me or even learn more about the man in my memory.
Time skip~ the next day...
Logan shook hands with Randy's family, "Give it a few weeks. And the MRDs would lose interest in you." Wondering where I was? Well, I was sitting on his bike while my motorbike was chained to the back so he could bring it with me, then suddenly, I noticed Erica finished hugging me and then rushed to his side:
"Don't leave." She whispered to him, and I took off my device for a bit and eavesdropped, as I saw him startled and hesitant by the sudden action, "I have to. It's time I went home." He continues, "And your babysitter is a target now, so she has to come with me and be treated by my friend. Look after your folks, okay?"
He hugs her in a warm embrace, causing me to smile at the sight in front of me—that is until I hear Erica say something very unexpected: "OH! AND PLEASE TAKE CARE OF SASHA! YOU BOTH ARE A MATCH!"
We were both startled as my face heated up in flames, "Erica!"
"What? It's in your eyes!" After that, we headed back to Washington.
