Chapter 9 - Cookies and Contemplation.

Warning: Refences to violence and gang activities.

As soon as the two got a decent distance away and had reached a highly populated area near their university, Logan let go of his hand, much to Patton's dismay. They wordlessly walked beside eachother, not knowing of anything to say. What do you say in that situation? 'Oh, you killed someone and at least gave irreversible brain damage to another. Good job!'

They entered the lobby, Logan still processing all that had happened that day. It started with a first date and ended with his sort-of-kind-of boyfriend person killing people. Entering the elevator, Patton pressed the button, still bouncing excitedly and smiling brightly as if everything that happened back at the warehouse didn't.

"Sooooooo you want some cookies?"
Logan glanced to Patton who was a lot closer than before. In fact, he right up close, that nonsensical smile still on his face. Unable to form a coherent response, Logan simply nodded. The doors opened and they both stepped out, Patton running to his room. Patton pushed his key into the lock and turned it quickly, rushing inside his dorm.

Logan blinked before walking to his at a normal pace. Logan sliently unlocked the door, looking behind him to be sure no one was there. Nobody in the hall, of course. It was lunch, everyone was at class or eating food in their dorm and Logan already knew that none of men from the warehouse would follow them. Oh well, cautiousness never killed anyone.

Just irritated them.

Logan sighed. All he wanted was to keep him safe and it was messing with his logical thinking. Of course they wouldn't follow him. Anyone could walk out of their room and see them, it would be stupid on their part to follow anyway. He shook his head to himself and pulled the door open. He threw his keys in his pocket and pressed his back against the door with eyes closed.

"Hey Logan, missed you bugging me about walking to class." Logan opened his eyes to see Virgil sitting on their small dining, one leg pulled up to his chest. He had a smirk clearly expressed on his face but the smugness wasn't returned. In fact Logan's face barely showed any emotion. It barely did normally because of how Logan avoided expressing his feelings but now it truely reflected what as happening inside him.

All the shock, anger and confusion had melted together into a sort of... emptiness.

Logan lazily shrugged his shoulders. "I was... taking care of something." His voice was quiet and cold, being as vague as he could possibly manage. He knew it was bad decision to keep it from Virgil. Honestly he was too emotionally drained to properly think as rationally as he normally would. Virgil pulled his leg up and put it across the other in a cross legged postion.

Virgil raised an eyebrow. "Can I ask what that something is?" He considered informing Virgil of all that had happened for a minute but decided against it. He was aware telling him would cause Virgil to panic wasn't exactly his priority. It was quite the opposite. He looked to be in a decent mood Logan didn't want to ruin that. He sighed. "... I'd prefer if you did not."

"Ohhh, mysterious." Virgil whispered playfully. He let both of his legs fall, raising his hands in the air to perform jazz hands. He wasn't taking the interaction remotely seriously like as if it were a normal conversation between normal people. Based on experience alone, neither of them were. Virgil seemed to excepting a response with a similar joking tone but when he didn't get one, he frowned.

"Logan... if something serious was going on, you'd tell me right?" He crossed his arms. Whenever they had these types of conversations, Logan always seemed to not tell the whole truth by either being extremely vague and missing out important information or just not telling Virgil anything entirely. That was what Logan was doing and that was what Logan still continued to do. "... affirmative."

"Convincing. I'm heading out." He shook his head, throwing his satchel over his shoulder. It was glaringly obvious Logan wasn't telling him something important but decided to push it, at least at the time being. "But seriously, I need to know if I should be worried." Virgil clicked the door closed, sighing and rubbing his eyes. God, sometimes he wondered why he even liked Logan like that.

Is because he felt like he owed Logan something after... everything? ...He decided not to think about it too much, beginning to walk to his class.

Logan flopped into their couch, sinking into it. Usually he tried to have ideal posture to avoid back pains but after the day he had, it was the last thing on his mind. One normal day, that's all Logan wanted. It seemed like everyday something dangerous or strange happened. How he still had any sanity less was beyond even a smart guy like him. Perhaps it's because his logical code prevents him from going fully insane.

That didn't mean he didn't have his fair share of mental issues, he just didn't show them as obviously as most people would. Weather that is a result of his strict father's parenting or just that he was numb to the trauma from how frequent it seemed to appear in his life, he wouldn't know. So why did the last two attacks shake him up so much? Because of Patton of course.

Out of all people, it was polite if creepy Patton who killed before Logan did. It seemed so strange. Logan wondered if he had some other motive than just protec- His thoughts were interrupted by a knock on his door. Logan stood up and walked over to the dorm door, preparing to open it. As he did, it revealed a plate with chocolate chip cookies. "Here you go!"

Logan invited him inside, faking a small smile as he took the plate from Patton. He sat back down on the couch with Patton following suit. They both tried took to take the same cookie, their hands brushing against eachother. Patton giggled while Logan simply pulled his hand and picked up another cookie. "So how are you Lo?" Patton spoke with his mouth full.

"... adequate."
