Unforgotten Memories
Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters and the picture is from picrew, but the plot is my own.
Tsukishima sighed sorrowfully, setting the bag and rake he had brought with him down as he went inside the boutique that was along the way to his destination. Going inside, he carefully avoided the eyes of the worker, instead glancing over the flower options. He decided upon red roses, to symbolize his love, and the lilies, which represented the loss he still grieved. Going up to the cashier, he told her the flowers he wished to buy. He stood eerily still as he waited for the young female to make the bouquet. Once she was done, he payed for the flowers, as well as some incense sticks, and walked back out, collecting his previously discarded items.
As he continued to the graveyard, he pointedly ignored the people staring at him. With his puffy red eyes, and the dark bags underneath them, his grief was apparent, after all. He couldn't meet their pitiful eyes, it would only remind him of the loss he had experienced. He only looked up when he noticed the stone path that led into the graveyard. Passing the white fence that guarded the cemetery at night, he followed the path until it lead him to his late husband's grave. Setting down the flowers, incense sticks, and the bottle of water that had been in the bag, he collected the old flowers that had wilted and put them in said bag. He then used the rake to clean up the leaves and sticks that had gathered around the grave site. He used the bottle of water to clean the tombstone. After doing so, he traced the engraved letters that read, "Kageyama Tobio."
Tobio had died of bone cancer. He was only made aware of it when he had to get a physical for a volleyball game. By the time it had been found, it had already spread. Kei fought back tears as he remembered his late husband's words, "At least I can spend my moments making memories with you." He sighed shifting to grab the flowers and incense, setting the flowers by the grave and lighting the incense sticks. He then bowed his head, beginning to talk as tears slipped down his cheeks, covered by his blonde hair.
"I never understood why you'd talk to grave sites, but I suppose I do now. I miss you, so much. You gave me a reason to smile, and now it's lost. Our old teammates are concerned, Hinata visits almost daily to make sure I'm eating. He is the only one who can come to understand the pain; he was your best friend. He misses you, he'll probably visit you later. When you left, you created a void we both struggle to fill. I continue to love you dearly, Tobio. I cannot wait for us to be reunited."
After he was done speaking, he stayed there crying for a bit, watching the tears fall. He stayed there until he felt a hand on his shoulder. Looking up, he was able to recognize the orange hair through the blur caused by his tears; Hinata. He nodded, standing up, collecting his things, and slowly walking away, not acknowledging Hinata's promise to visit later. As he walked home, he disposed of the bag. As he walked onto his property, he put away the rake and walked inside. He continued into the bedroom, grabbing a picture book and sitting on the bed. He flipped onto the first page; a picture of him and Tobio sharing a piece of strawberry shortcake. In the picture, you could see the edge of a leaf, Nishinoya and Tanaka deciding that a bush was the best place to hide while watching them. He chuckled humorlessly, the two were fools but he was quite thankful for the picture.
On the next page was a picture of Tobio, him, Tadashi, and Shoyo. They were on a double date at the arcade. They were all smiling, Tsukishima holding a moon plush that Tobio had won for him. Well, won wasn't really the best word. Tobio had tried at least 20 times to win the plush, the rigged game almost unbeatable. Eventually, the vendor took pity on him and gave the plush to them. Still, they all looked so happy.
Another picture was on the same page, also taken by Nishinoya and Tanaka. It had been after a match, on the bus ride home. Tsukishima had been holding Tobio as he fell asleep. It was a cute picture, one that brought a small smile to his face as he remembered that day. It had been a tough match, they had almost lost before getting a plan together.
Flipping a few pages, Tsukki seen a picture of their first year team. It was taken right after they had beat Shiratorizawa, Kageyama's face was glowing as he held Tsukki's uninjured hand. They were all sweaty, the exhaustion apparent, and yet all of them had joyful expressions, even Kei. He smiled, running a thumb over Kageyama's face, imagining how it would feel to go back to their high school days.
After that picture came one from their engagement day. It wasn't anything exoctic. Tsukishima had just finished a game. He came home to Tobio spoiling him with a bath, cuddles, and then a ring. It was a beautiful night, one that he never wished to forget. The feeling of Tobio's endless love for him made him feel warm.
The last three pictures were them on their wedding day, their honeymoon, and them getting a home together. Their wedding had been beautiful. Tsukishima had decided to wear a white tux, Tobio in a black one. Tadashi and Hinata had been their best men respectfully. Tobio's vows had been surprisingly well written, a promise of eternal love. Hinata had, of course, made a speech about their volleyball games, whereas Tadashi's was more personal as he mentions Kei's fear of love and how he was thankful Tobio had made Tsuki so happy. The entire team had been there, and Noya and Tanaka accidentally knocked down the cake (where they were both scolded by Asahi and Ennoshita, who was exhausted by their respective boyfriend's hyperactivity.) They had gone to Brazil for their honeymoon upon Hinata's insistence that it would be a beautiful place. He hadn't been wrong, and the beach pictures had indeed been breathtaking. The three nights they had spent there together had been filled with love and passion, and Tsukishima couldn't help but long for Kageyama's loving touch. The picture of them with their new home had been taken the day after they had arrived home from Brazil. Tobio was holding the keys, with Tsuki behind him. Kei had his arms surrounding Kageyama, kissing the top of his head. Looking at the picture, Tsukishima wept, ignoring the tears that fell onto the photograph. He missed his lover, so much. But he was thankful that Tobio had at least left him with several happy, unforgotten memories.
