5 (WHAT DO YOU KNOW?)

The next morning, Jenna was dragging along as she was getting ready for the day. How she and Janet got home last night, she had no idea. It all became a blur as they were a bit buzzed and the rest of the night went by fast. However, getting to school was slow with each step she took on the concrete.

When Jenna got to the parking lot, the first thing she spotted was Craig's car. He was leaning against the door, his arms and legs crossed. He glanced her way, which caused a smirk to appear on his face.

"Hey!" he called out.

Jenna winced, rubbing her temple. "I may have a slight headache after last night."

"What, did you party too hard?" he asked, his arms snaking around her waist.

"Maybe a little bit." She smiled and leaned up to kiss him.

He kissed back, his mouth soft and full. "Anything interesting happened?"

Jenna's smile faded, her stomach turning like the night before, as she remembered seeing Barbara being dragged down to an unknown abyss and her pleading for Nancy. "Not really," she lied, her throat cracking.

"Are you okay?" he asked, a hint of concern in his voice.

She nodded quickly. "Yeah, I'm fine. Come on, let's get to class before we're late." She took his hand and went towards the school. Carter the Cutter was looking at them from the entrance. "Can we help you, freak?"

"Fortunately, no," he simply replied, sticking his hands in his pockets.

"Well, I'm glad you enjoyed the show," Craig intervened.

With a glare, Carter turned around and walked inside.

Jenna shook her head. "He really is weird."

So the two of them strolled inside, going towards their first class. That was when Craig pressed Jenna up against the metal, his grin wide. "We have a bigger audience now."

"Wow, that's disgusting," Steve commented, strutting by them. "Hey, Jenna. Thanks for leaving the tequila for me to clean up."

"You're welcome." Jenna shot a fake smile his way, which only made him shake his head and scoff in response. She forgot about the mess that was left in the living room from the party. Really, Janet was to blame as well, but for all Jenna knew, she got the same snarky remark from Steve, too.

Jenna and Craig finally headed to class, where they parted ways and went to their seats. Nancy strolled in next, sitting down and looking at the empty desk next to her.

Jenna did her best not to look in that direction, but the empty seat had her attention. When the bell rang, Nancy's face grew worried, and she couldn't help but wonder if she was crazy to believe in something that she didn't understand.

It seemed like Barbara was in another dimension, one that Jenna had already seen. The thought of Barbara wasn't the only one that was down there made her shiver.

And that was when Will Byers popped into her mind.

The rest of the morning became more tiring as it continued to slowly drift by. Barbara and Will were on Jenna's mind, with the chilling thought that something bad happened to them. At first, she didn't want to believe it, but with two disappearances two days apart, it was beginning to make her wonder what was going on in Hawkins.

But when she was on her way to lunch, Janet came up beside her. "You and Craig were really into it this morning."

Jenna scoffed. "Shut up." she paused, clearing her throat. "Barbara wasn't in class today."

Janet sighed, linking her arm with mine. "Don't worry about it too much. For all we know, she probably skipped school today."

"Yes, because Barbara Holland skipping school is so like her," Jenna replied sarcastically.

Janet rolled her eyes. "I'm sure she's fine. Come on, let's get some lunch."

So they strolled in the cafeteria, getting trays filled with vegetables, applesauce, a piece of hamburger, and a carton of milk. Across the cafeteria, they spotted Steve, Tommy H, and Carol already sitting down with their food.

"Hey, hey," Carol greeted them as Jenna and Janet took seats at each end of the table. "It's Jen and Jan."

"How are you two feeling after last night?" Tommy H asked.

"Yeah, when you spilled tequila all over the damn floor," Steve added in a rude tone.

"Dude, it was an accident," Janet told him. "We're sorry and it won't happen again."

Jenna shot him with her best puppy dog face. "Forgive us, Steve?"

He rolled his eyes, stabbing his vegetables with his fork. "Whatever."

"Okay, I have a question for you guys." Carol lifted her leg up, placing it on the table, revealing a blister of some sorts on her ankle. "I think this is frostbite. What do you guys think?"

"That's not frostbite, Carol," Jenna said.

"How do you know?" she questioned.

"Because we were in a heated pool," she told her. "Besides, we weren't even outside for that long."

Tommy H chuckled, shaking his head. "See, science doesn't make any damn sense to me."

"No, I swear, it's totally frostbite," Carol protested.

"Like Jenna said, it's a heated pool," Tommy H added.

"Well, if it's not frostbite, then what is it?" she retorted, sounding annoyed.

"I don't care what it is, it's disgusting," Steve spoke up. "Get it off the table. We're eating here."

While Carol slapped Tommy H's hand away when he tried to touch it, Nancy approached us and took a seat between Steve and Jenna. She gave them a small smile, then looked at Carol's boyfriend. "Hey, Tommy. When you left last night, did you see Barb?"

"What?" he questioned with applesauce in his mouth.

"Barbara," she answered. "She's not here today."

"I seriously have no idea who you're talking about," he replied with a blank face, even though they knew he was lying.

Carol let out a snort, while Jenna and Janet exchanged glances from across the table, shaking their heads.

The annoyance in Steve began to rise. "Come on, don't be an ass, man. Did you see her leave last night or not?"

Tommy H eyed Steve, then turned back towards Nancy. "No. She was gone when we left."

Carol smirked. "She probably couldn't stand listening to all that moaning."

Tommy H chuckled, grunting. "Oh, Steve..."

"Oh, Steve!" Carol chimed in.

"No, don't even start that," Jenna intervened. "Seriously, no one wants to hear it."

Tommy H and Carol laughed, but Nancy and Steve almost blushed with embarrassment. "Listen, Nance, I'm sure everything's okay. Maybe she skipped or something."

Janet widened her eyes Jenna's way. Told you, she mouthed.

Nancy nodded, though it wasn't convincing for her. "Yeah, probably." She turned towards Jenna and then at Janet. "Did you two see Barb before you left?"

Jenna and Janet exchanged looks before looking back at Nancy and shaking their heads.

"No, we didn't," Jenna lied.

The girl nodded in disappointment, getting back to her lunch.

The twisting and turning of Jenna's stomach made the guilt of lying to Nancy soak into her mind. She did her best to eat her lunch in peace and quiet, but hearing Barbara's screams continued to play over and over in her head, and there was no way to stop it.

After lunch, they all went their separate ways to class. On the way to her next one, Jenna spotted a flier on a bulletin board about the football game today. She sighed, looking at it for a bit longer.

"You're coming to cheer me on, right?" Craig came up behind her.

She grinned, turning around. "Wouldn't miss it." The flier was the only way she knew there was a game today. With her mind occupied for the last couple of days, she really didn't pay any attention to anything else. But did Craig need to know that? No, not really.

"I'll need the support," he said, pulling her closer to him. "I might need a little pep talk right now to keep me going later."

"Well, I can definitely help with that."

So she began to kiss him long and softly, his hands became more firm around her waist as the kiss got deeper. Jenna felt the wall hit her back, causing her to groan in response to the mild pain.

Then, they heard someone clear their throat behind them. "Um, Craig? Jenna?" They looked over to see a girl with light brown hair and a camera hanging around her neck standing there, though Jenna didn't know her name. "Sorry to interrupt. My name's--"

"Do we know you?" Craig questioned, raising his eyebrows.

"Um, no, but..." She turned away from him and towards Jenna. "I need to talk to you."

"Can it wait?" she retorted.

She shook her head. "No, it can't. It's important."

Jenna sighed and motioned Craig to leave. He gave her one last kiss, then headed on his way. She turned to face the girl, crossing her arms. "Okay, what is it?"

"Well, it's about last night at Steve's house," she said.

Jenna furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "How do you know about that?"

"I overheard Tommy and Carol talking about it, like a party or something."

She relaxed her face, sighing in annoyance. "Okay, what about it?"

The girl fidgeted with her hands, looking nervous. "Well, you guys were being watched."

Jenna then widened her eyes. "By who, exactly?"

The girl stared at her before saying, "Jonathan Byers and Carter Page."

She felt her blood boiling and her fists clenching. "Please tell me you're joking."

"That's not all," the girl kept going. "There's pictures of you guys. The boys were developing them during lunch."

"What kind of pictures?" Jenna questioned, trying to keep it together.

"Just some of you guys in the pool, then some of Nancy in Steve's room," she answered. "I haven't told anyone else yet. You're the first person I saw, so--"

"Come on," Jenna cut her off, leading the girl down the hall.

"Where are we going?" she asked.

Jenna exhaled loudly. "We're gonna find the others and make those two creeps pay for what they did."

She felt herself wanting to explode as she stormed down the hall, with nothing else on her mind but those two stalkers. Once the others found out about what Jonathan and Carter did last night, she knew it was going to get ugly. But it wouldn't be her problem, especially since they were the ones being creeps, taking pictures of them.

Steve was the first person she found. "Hey," she said, trying to stay composed.

He turned and shot her a weird look. "Hey." Steve eyed the light brown-haired girl, then back at Jenna. "What's up? Everything okay?"

"No," she replied, looking at the girl standing next to her. "She just told me that Jonathan Byers and Carter Page were spying on us last night."

Steve widened his eyes. "What?"

"There's pictures, too," the girl added.

The boy held an annoyed expression. "Meet me and the others after school in the parking lot."

"Why?" Jenna asked.

"Just meet us." Without another word, Steve turned around and stormed down the hall.

"Wonder what he's planning," the girl said. "Whatever it is, I'm sure it won't be good for Jonathan and Carter."

Jenna scoffed, pursing her lips. "Good."

For the rest of the day, she was distracted with the thought of the party and knowing that Jonathan and Carter were watching them the entire time last night. What was worse was that there were pictures. Pictures. It made Jenna's skin crawl, grossing her out even more.

Jenna was heading out of the school when Craig came beside her, taking her hand in his. She began to get nervous, knowing how he would react when he found out about Jonathan and Carter's sneaking around at Steve's house.

"Everything okay?" he asked, sounding concerned. "It seems like whenever I see you something's not right."

Jenna exhaled. "Sorry about that. I know I'm a mess."

"Aren't we all?" he said, smirking. "So, what did that girl want earlier?"

She scoffed. "You're about to find out."

He looked confused and a bit worried, but he didn't respond. If anyone was worried, it was Jenna.

Steve was already leaning against what Jenna assumed to be Jonathan Byers' car, along with Tommy H, Carol, Janet, and the girl from earlier today.

"About time you got here," Steve said, then focusing his eyes on Craig. "Hey, Craig. Any reason why you're here, too?"

"We ran into each other," Jenna told him. "He can stay."

"Yeah, I'm curious to know why my girlfriend is so nervous," Craig spoke up. "Any ideas, Steve?"

He looked over at the Byers boy, along with Carter that were coming our way, the two conversing. "You're about to find out." Steve crossed his arms and leaned back against the car. "Hey, man."

Jonathan looked away from Carter and scanned his eyes at the others, confused. "What's going on?"

"Well, we were just told about your work," Steve replied. "Taking photos and all that shit."

"We've heard great things," Carol added.

"Yeah, sounds cool," Tommy H stated in his usual sarcastic tone.

"And we'd just love to take a look," Steve said. "You know, as connoisseurs of art."

"We have no idea what you're talking about," Carter intervened harshly.

"Oh, I think you do," Jenna retorted, stepping up.

"Well, what is it that you guys are all talking about, especially if it involves my girlfriend?" Craig stepped in.

Tommy H snatched Jonathan's bag, throwing it to Steve.

"Please, give me my bag," Jonathan begged.

"Man, he is totally trembling. He must really have something to hide." Steve opened his bag, pulling out a bunch of pictures. "Here we go."

"Wait, what are those?" Craig asked, sounding angry.

Shit.

Jenna got beside the others to look at what was captured last night. Sure enough, there were photos of her and everyone else by the pool and also inside Steve's house.

"Yeah, this isn't creepy at all," Janet spoke up sarcastically.

"Carter and I were looking for my brother!" Jonathan protested.

"No, this is called stalking," Steve snapped.

"Yeah, an invasion of privacy," Jenna added harshly.

Craig flared up his nostrils, charging at the boys. "I swear, I'll fucking--"

"Craig, stop!" Jenna intervened, grabbing his arm. "Let us handle this."

"But these two--"

"No offense, Craig, but this doesn't concern you," Steve cut him off. "We'll take care of it."

It was at that moment Craig huffed a sigh in defeat and backed away. "Fine. Jenna, I'll see you later at the game." With that, he gave her a peck on the lips, sending one final glare at Jonathan and Carter before storming off.

Annoyed, Jenna turned back to the boys when Nancy showed up.

"What's going on?" she asked.

"Here's the starring lady," Tommy H said, smirking her way.

"What?" Nancy replied, looking confused.

"These creeps were spying on us last night," Janet finally spoke up.

"Byers over here was probably gonna save this one for later," Carol added, handing her a picture.

Nancy eyed Jonathan for a brief moment before taking a look at the picture of herself taking her shirt off in Steve's bedroom. The brunette's eyes turned into a shocking expression and her mouth opened up a bit as she looked back at Jonathan.

"See, you can tell that he knows it was wrong, but..." Steve walked towards the boys. "Even Carter the Cutter knows it was wrong, but that's the thing about perverts. It's hardwired into 'em. You know, they just can't help themselves." He ripped up the pictures, tossing them in the air. "So, it looks like we'll just have to take away Byers' toy."

"No, please, not the camera!" Jonathan begged, trying to get past Tommy H.

"No, no, wait, Tommy. It's okay." Steve had his camera in his grasp, reaching out for Jonathan to grab. "Here you go, man."

"Oh, hell no!" Jenna snapped, snatching the camera away from him.

"Jenna, what are you doing?!" Steve retorted.

Carter the Cutter then reached for it, his tight grip on the lens. "Let go, Howard."

"Make me, freak."

"Dudette, just let go!" Janet said.

"You heard her. Let go."

"No." She squeezed the camera harder.

"Stop, you're gonna break it!" Jonathan yelled.

"Jenna, that's enough!" Steve attempted to grab her, but she shoved him away.

She felt her breathing getting heavy as she drowned out the yelling around her. With her blood pumping and hands getting sore, the anger was piling up. Carter was refusing to back down, just like Jenna. They kept their grips on the camera, tugging back and forth when Jenna felt her head hurting. It began to get warm in her palms, and the heat was only rising with every second.

"JENNA!"

BOOM!

"OW!" Carter shouted as they dropped the camera. "Shit!"

Smoke and sparks emerged as it broke into pieces, shattering on the ground. Jenna gasped at the pain, the burning sensation still lingering in her hands.

Carter hissed, gripping his wrist.

"What the hell was that?!" Carol shrieked.

"Jenna, your nose," Janet told her.

Jenna lifted my shaky hand up and felt the trickling of the blood run out of her nose once again. She quickly wiped it away, seeing all eyes were on her, with everyone's faces filled with confusion and shock, other than Jonathan's sad look that his camera was destroyed. Making a dash for the school, she felt her head pounding even harder when she got to the bathroom.

"Hey," the voice of Dana Sellers said, not realizing she was standing there the entire time. "Are you okay?"

Jenna turned to her and reluctantly nodded. "I'm fine," she lied.

Dana didn't seem convinced, but she nodded back, anyway, making her way out of the bathroom.

Looking back in the mirror, she panted, trying to figure out exactly what the hell was her problem. She came to realize that something was now seriously wrong with her.

It took Jenna a moment to compose herself before she headed out of the bathroom. She still couldn't shake the nerves of what just happened with the camera, how she and Carter felt the heat rising and the explosion happening in their hands. For Jenna, it was almost like the heat was coming from her hands, as if she was the one that caused the camera to blow up like it did.

When Jenna left the bathroom, her friends, minus the redheaded girl, were sitting in the hallway. Steve, Nancy, and Janet were up against the lockers, while Tommy H was sitting on a bench across from them, with Carol resting her head in his lap.

Carol was smirking at her friends by the lockers, popping her gum. "So, I told Mr. Mundy, 'The solution of ten plus Y equals blow me.'"

While Tommy H laughed, Steve scoffed. "Bull. If you did that, you'd be in detention right now."

"Saturday," she retorted, almost sounding proud of herself.

"I bet Mr. Mundy's still a virgin," Tommy H stated.

"Only you would care about that, Tommy," Jenna pointed out, sitting down next to Steve and Janet.

"You okay, dudette?" Janet whispered to me.

No. "I'm fine."

Janet didn't press on, crossing her arms over her chest.

"Oh, he's so a virgin," Carol added. "Unlike some of the students here at this school."

"Maybe you should blow him, Carol," Tommy H retorted. "Help your grades a bit."

"That's your girlfriend you're talking about," Jenna said. "And that's fucking gross."

Tommy shrugged. "It was just a joke, Jen. Relax."

Before she could respond, Nancy left the group all of a sudden.

"Hey, Nance, where're you going?" Steve called out.

She turned around, blanking out on what started to be a lie. "I-I totally forgot. I told my mom I would, um...I would do something with her."

"Wait, what do you mean? The game's about to start." Steve stood up as she was rushing out.

"I'm sorry!" She went faster on her feet, which Steve didn't bother to go after her anymore.

He sighed, shaking his head. "What the hell's wrong with her?"

"Maybe she freaked out when you and Jenna went all psycho on the psychos," Tommy H responded.

"Bite me, Tommy," Jenna snapped. "At least Steve and I did something, unlike you."

"Oh, give us a break," Steve intervened before it went any further.

"Besides, what did you expect, dating Miss Perfect?" Carol asked him, blowing a bubble with her gum.

"She's got a point," Janet mumbled in my ear.

Steve didn't make a rebuttal, letting the whistle from the football field take over. "Sounds like the game's starting."

Everyone stood up, stretching their legs before attempting to walk, especially for Jenna, after the incident.

As they headed for the field, Jenna turned around for a split second, just to lock eyes with Carter the Cutter. He was leaning against the wall, headphones in his ears. At that moment, she was getting upset all over again, her anger towards him going up.

"I'll meet you out there, guys," Jenna told the others, not even taking my eyes off of Carter. "Save me a seat." She didn't even wait for a reply before making her way towards the freak.

He took off his headphones, placing them around his neck. "Want to start some more shit with me? You know, I'm not sure how to feel now that I'm getting a lot more attention from you lately."

"Why the fuck were you and Jonathan Byers spying on us last night?" Jenna asked, ignoring his snarky remark, as much as she wanted to punch him for it.

Carter sighed, already annoyed. "Like he said, we were looking for his brother. We heard screaming coming from Harrington's house and we thought something was wrong. Turns out, you guys were acting stupid and calling it fun."

"It was a party, dumbass," she retorted.

"Yeah, a lame one at that," he scoffed.

Jenna rolled her eyes, folding her arms over her chest. "How long did you stalk us?"

"Long enough to see Barbara Holland disappear."

It was in that moment that Jenna froze, chills going down her spine. "You saw what?"

He raised his eyebrows. "She was there one minute, then she was gone the next. You don't know anything about that, do you?"

"I have no idea what you're talking about," she lied, keeping a straight face.

He nodded, reaching in his pocket. "So I guess you didn't know what was going on when you did this?" He unfolded what looked like a piece of paper, only for it to be a picture of Jenna screaming by the pool.

Her mouth slightly opened, surprised and caught off guard at it, which finally made her sigh in defeat. "What do you know about Barbara's disappearance?"

"What do you know about Barbara's disappearance?" he retorted.

"I'm not telling you anything until you tell me what you know," she said.

He sighed in response. "Well, if you won't tell me about Barbara, then maybe you can tell me what you know about Will Byers' disappearance."

"I don't know anything about that."

"Oh, really?"

"Really."

Carter raised his eyebrows. "What about the camera? My hands are still burning from that, you know."

"I have no idea how that camera exploded," she replied, in a frustrated tone.

He was silent for a moment, his expression more annoyed. "Look, it's fucking obvious that we have information that's useful to both of us. You've been acting weird since Will Byers went missing, and I'm starting to think there's some sort of connection between you and his disappearance, along with Barb."

"And what makes you say that?"

"Meet me here after the game and I'll tell you what I know."

Jenna scoffed. "If you're talking about becoming friends--"

"I never said that. You're getting way ahead of yourself." He paused, raising his head higher. "I mean sort of like a truce. I'll tell you what I know if you tell me what you know. Maybe, in some weird way, it all fits together like a puzzle." Carter stuck his hand out to shake. "What do you say, Howard? Truce?"

Jenna was reluctant, staring down at his hand. While she couldn't stand Carter the Cutter, she had to admit, as much as it pained her, that he might've been onto something with what had been going on these last few days. In a way, it made some sense to her. The only way to find out was to dig deeper into things, and doing it alone would most likely not get her very far.

Which was why Jenna shook Carter's hand. "Truce. So, after the game, then?"

"I'll be waiting."

So Jenna spun on her heel, heading towards the doors that led to the football field, hoping that she didn't make a huge mistake working with the freak of Hawkins High School. Then again, maybe he was the only one that could give her the answers that she needed.

Either way, Jenna was worried about what information they would find.

A/N: Well, this was an okay chapter, I guess.

I don't mean for it to take forever with this story. It's just very different from what I'm used to writing, but I have been trying to keep going with this story.

Anyway, what did you think?

Comment, vote, more to come soon (hopefully)!
