3 (IMAGINATIONS AND TEQUILA)

Jenna was hardly able to sleep last night. The thought of Will Byers missing made her skin crawl. It had been two days already and there was no luck in finding him. If only Craig and Jenna had paid more attention on Sunday night. Maybe they would've seen him.

"Breakfast is ready!" her mom shouted from downstairs, startling Jenna a bit.

She sighed and got out of bed, doing the same school routine. As she was getting ready, all she could think about was seeing Craig at school. After what happened between them yesterday, she didn't know if he even wanted to see her.

Jenna headed downstairs, skipping a few steps along the way, and sat down at the plate of food in front of her. She quietly ate her eggs and toast when Dorothy sat down across from her.

"So..." she started. "You have that chemistry test today, right?"

Jenna nodded her head. "Yeah."

"I think you'll do great on it, since you studied for it at some point."

"Right," she lied. Jenna quickly finished her plate and took it to the sink, grabbing her knapsack and heading for the door. "I'll see you later, Mom."

"Whoa, wait," she said, stopping Jenna. "Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, everything's fine," she lied again, trying to play it cool like before.

"Really? Did anything happen between you and Craig?"

"No, Mom, it's all good." Jenna gave her a nod and then hurriedly went out the door. She was about to go down the driveway when a car pulled up, rolling her eyes when she saw who was driving.

Steve rolled down the window, a smirk on his face, along with Janet in the passenger seat. "Get in!"

"Why are you taking me to school?" Jenna asked, walking towards the car.

"Because I can, that's why," he replied. "Now hurry up or we're gonna be late."

She got inside the backseat and buckled her seatbelt as Steve backed out of the driveway and onto the street. "Okay, so why did you pick me up today? You never do this."

"You know, maybe I wanted to be nice today," he replied. "You're a great friend, Jenna."

"What do you want?"

Steve chuckled. "What makes you think I want something from you?"

"Steve."

"I need some alcohol."

Jenna widened her eyes. "For what?"

"I just need some."

"For what, Steve?"

Steve turned towards Janet. "Wanna party tonight, Jan?"

"Sure," she said.

Jenna furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "You're having a party?"

"Yeah, wanna come?"

She scoffed, rolling her eyes. "It's going to be hard to steal from my mom, you know."

"She won't notice any of it is missing."

Yes, she would, dumbass. "Well, how much do you need?"

"Just a couple of bottles."

Jenna huffed a sigh in defeat. "I'll see what I can do."

"You're the best, Jenna, you know that?"

"Yes, I do, thank you."

Before she knew it, Steve pulled up in the school parking lot. The three got out and headed towards Hawkins High when Steve called over Tommy H and Carol. He explained to them about his party tonight, to which they eagerly accepted the invitation.

As they strolled inside the school, Barbara Holland, Nancy's best friend, was going over some flashcards with her. "'A molecule that can--"

Steve came by and snatched the cards from Barbara as the others followed behind him. "Hey!" Nancy called out.

Steve looked over the cards, shuffling them as we piled in a corner of the hallway. "I think you've studied enough, Nance."

"Steve--"

"I'm telling you, you got this. Don't worry." He paused, looking up at her. "Now, on to more important matters. My dad has left town for a conference and my mom's gone with him, 'cause, you know, she doesn't trust him."

"Good call," Tommy H commented.

Steve grinned his way, then turned back to Nancy. "So are you in?"

"Oh, way to be specific, Steve," Janet added.

Nancy furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "In for what?"

"No parents? Big house?" Carol stepped in, trying to help Nancy out.

Nancy glanced at Steve, furrowing her eyebrows. "A party?"

"Ding, ding, ding!" Carol exclaimed while Tommy H laughed.

"But...it's Tuesday," Nancy pointed out.

Tommy H laughed again. "It's Tuesday," he said, mocking Nancy, which made Jenna, Janet, and Carol snicker a little.

Steve didn't find it too funny and ignored them. "Come on. It'll be low key. It'll just be us. What do you say? Are you in or are you out?"

The brunette looked skeptical. "Um..."

"Oh, God," Carol intervened, a disgusted expression on her face. "Look."

The teenagers looked to see Jonathan Byers pinning a flier on the bulletin near the front doors of the school.

"Oh, God, that's depressing," Steve said.

"Should we say something?" Nancy suggested.

"I don't think he speaks," Carol retorted.

"How much do you wanna bet he killed him?" Tommy H teased.

"Shut up," Steve said while Tommy H snickered.

Jenna turned towards Tommy H. "What the hell is your problem?" she snapped.

"Relax, Jen, he was kidding," Carol said to me.

"Well, it wasn't very funny," she retorted.

They stared at him for a bit longer until Nancy decided to go talk to him. To be honest, Jenna really did feel bad for Jonathan. Will's disappearance was a big deal in Hawkins, considering it was a small town.

When the bell rang, everyone scurried in the hallway, rushing to get to class. Nancy bid Jonathan goodbye and joined the others to get to class. Jenna took one last glance at Jonathan to see him leaving school, not turning back.

"Attention, faculty and students. At 8:00 p.m. tonight, there will be an assembly on the football field in support of Will Byers and his family. All are encouraged to attend. Volunteer sign-ups for search parties are still available in the office."

"Looks like we're going to miss the assembly, folks," Tommy H chuckled.

Steve and Carol were the only ones who let out a snicker. Jenna headed into chemistry with Nancy as the others strolled down the hallway. She sat at her desk, trying to mentally prepare herself for this test. While other kids were shuffling at their desks, including Nancy and Barbara, she spotted Craig walking inside, her eyes glued to him. He glanced at Jenna, then went to his desk, facing the board.

"Okay, class, get your pencils out and put everything else away for the test!" Mr. Kaminsky announced to the class.

Jenna followed his instructions, her mind getting foggy and scatterbrained for this test. Of course, her studying routine for this test was terrible, so she could only blame herself for not being prepared. However, she was so focused on her headaches, nosebleeds, the episode in Craig's car...

There was too much going on and the last thing Jenna was worried about was this damn test.

Mr. Kaminsky passed out the tests, her stomach tied in knots and her head throbbing once again.

Not now, dammit! Jenna thought, taking a deep breath as she stared at the test in front of her in agony.

"Okay, everyone, you may begin your test!" Mr. Kaminsky told the class as he approached his front desk.

With a shaky hand, Jenna wrote her name and began with the first question. She did her best to focus, but the pain coming from her head continued. She closed her eyes for a second, trying to dig deep down anything that she remembered from this class.

"Think, just think hard," she mumbled under my breath.

Jenna was beginning to skim through each question, jotting answers down, not checking twice at her work. Focused to finish this test, she was determined to get through it with no other distractions. With each question, her hand got worse, along with her head. The lights began to flicker, yet she was the only one to notice. It wasn't until her test was stained with red drops that she knew something was wrong.

"Shit," Jenna mumbled, putting her pencil down and covering up her nose. She got up quietly and stood in front of her desk. "I need to go to the bathroom."

"There's a test going on, Miss Howard."

"I know, but this is an emergency."

Kaminsky eyed her, then sighed in defeat, picking up the hall pass from his desk. "Fine. Make it quick."

Jenna grabbed the pass and practically ran out the door. The lights were flickering out in the hallway as well, though no one but there was around to witness it. She rushed to the bathroom, getting paper towels for her bloody nose. The girl groaned, wishing this didn't happen in the middle of a test.

Looking in the mirror, not only were the lights messing up, but so was the bathroom itself. Just by glancing at the reflection behind her, she could tell the bathroom was turning into something like the tunnels in the sewers. Vines hung from every wall, covering the entire floor. A mucus-like substance fell from the mirrors and sinks, causing Jenna to groan in disgust. Everything was dark and cold, feeling like there was no escape.

She shivered. "Hello?" she called out, an echo hitting the walls of the bathroom.

"Hello?"

Jenna froze, shocked to even hear an answer back. "Hello?" She looked around again and then headed out of the bathroom, running into someone. "Watch it!"

"You watch it," the familiar voice from before snapped.

Jenna looked up to see the last person she wanted to run into. "I should've recognized your voice, freak."

"Nice to see you, too, Howard," Carter retorted. "Mind telling me why you were yelling in the bathroom?"

"First of all, I wasn't yelling. Second, I don't have to tell you anyth--" She stopped and suddenly realized that she was back in the halls of Hawkins High and the lights were working again. "What the hell? Did you...did you see that?"

"See what?"

"We're...we're in school again."

Carter shot her a confused look. "We've been in school this entire time. Is Harrington giving you some pills or something?"

"We don't do drugs, thank you very much," I stated. "But seriously, I wasn't here just a second ago. I swear, I was---" She looked back at the bathroom, then shook her head. "You know what, never mind. I don't have to explain myself to Carter the Cutter."

He rolled his eyes in response. "Fine, whatever. By the way, you've got some, uh..." He motioned to his nose, implying that she still had blood to wipe off.

With that, Jenna scoffed at him, then headed back to class, wiping the nose off her face, still wondering what she saw was either real or just a figment of her imagination.

The rest of the morning went downhill. Jenna could hardly concentrate once she came back from the bathroom, barely finishing her test in time. She knew she did terrible on it, but all she could think about was what she saw in the bathroom, what looked like the deep pits of Hawkins, in her opinion.

At lunch, Jenna sat down with her friends, staying silent while eating her food. The nosebleeds and headaches from this morning went away, which she was relieved about.

"How do you think you did on that test, Nance?" Steve asked, draping his arm over her.

She shrugged. "It was okay. Hopefully, I did fine."

"You did, Nancy," Steve assured her, then looked at Jenna. "What about you, Jenna?"

"Horrible," she stated bluntly.

"Wow, way to be positive," he replied sarcastically.

"The only type of chemistry she knows is the one between her and Craig," Carol chimed in, smirking.

She playfully rolled her eyes. "Yeah, whatever."

"Speaking of Craig, what's going on with you two?" Janet asked.

"Nothing, as far as I know," she answered. "I'll be right back." Jenna shot up from the table and headed for the bathroom. She had to go back and figure out where she was and what she saw. It was gnawing at her brain, replaying in her head over and over.

Pushing through the crowds in the cafeteria, Jenna's pace quickened. She hurried back into the bathroom and acted as if she was fixing her hair in the mirror as some girls left. She checked the stalls, making sure no one else was around, then scanned the bathroom, trying to see if she could go back to where she was before.

She took a deep breath. "Okay, Jenna, just focus. Try to go back..."

To her, it sounded crazy. But something was going on, something terrible, and for some reason, it was affecting her. Something about Hawkins was off, and Jenna had a feeling things were going to stay that way for a while.

Nothing was happening and Jenna was beginning to get frustrated. "I got there this morning. How hard can it be to go back?"

"Go back where?" a voice called out, entering the bathroom. The brunette from yesterday, Dana Sellers, appeared.

Jenna exhaled loudly. "Nowhere."

Dana raised her eyebrows, though she didn't press on. "Okay, then..." She walked past her and went into a stall.

Annoyed, Jenna left the bathroom, turning to go back into the hallway when she bumped into someone. "Ow!"

"Sorry," the familiar voice of Craig said.

It was almost like déjà vu all over again. "It's okay. I wasn't looking, either."

"That's not all I'm sorry about," he said. "About yesterday, I...I shouldn't have gone as far as I did. I want us to work."

Jenna raised her eyebrows in shock. "Us? As in, you want to be a thing?

He grinned. "I mean, I thought I've made it pretty clear..."

She smiled. "I think we've both made it clear, huh?" She grabbed his face and planted a firm kiss on his lips. It was short, but very sweet. "Okay, so let's be a thing."

Craig gave her a kiss this time. "I'll enjoy calling you my girlfriend."

"Well, I'll enjoy hearing it," she stated. Knowing that Craig and Jenna were finally dating kept her mind off of this morning's incident.

"So, now that we're officially dating, that means I have to take you out on a date. How about this weekend?"

"Sounds good to me," she said.

"Well, until then, how about I come over tonight and we can hang out?" he asked.

her smile faded. "Oh, I can't hang out tonight."

Craig huffed a sigh. "Why not?"

"I'm hanging out with Janet tonight."

He scoffed. "Not just Janet, but also Carol and Tommy H and Steve..."

"And Nancy, Steve's girlfriend," she reminded him. "Trust me, all we're doing is hanging out, that's it."

He sighed. "Okay. You should probably get back to your friends. I'll see you later." With that, he gave her one more peck on the lips, then walked away.

Jenna's grin couldn't leave her face as she headed back to the cafeteria, glad that her day was a little bit better.

After lunch, the rest of the school day went on like normal. Jenna saw Craig in between classes, shooting flirtatious glances her way. Jenna's friends were too busy talking to notice anything. She never told them about her relationship, mainly because she wasn't quite ready to hear the teasing and taunting she'd get from them.

When school was over, Jenna was heading for the door when the missing poster for Will Byers caught her eye. She studied Will's face, focusing on his innocent smile. The more she stared at the picture, the more she thought about Jonathan and how he was feeling.

Could where I was in the bathroom be connected to Will's disappearance?

Jenna shook my head. "No, that's not possible," she muttered before heading out the door and into the autumn air, where she began her walk home. She noticed Dana from earlier leaning against the wall, writing in her journal. Jenna hurriedly ran across the parking lot to get home before her mom did. Hopefully, she wouldn't be home for another couple of hours.

During the walk home, Jenna took the opportunity to clear her head after today's incident. All she wanted to do was focus on tonight. Halloween night was the last party she went to, so it wasn't too long ago that she had fun with some friends that involved drinking and smoking. Jenna knew that she was a party girl, and she was happily okay with that.

When Jenna got home, she didn't see her mom's car in the driveway, which made her plan to take a couple of bottles easier. She unlocked the door and immediately went straight for the kitchen, grabbing a chair and stood on it to reach the top of the pantry. She smiled when she found two medium bottles of tequila that looked untouched, and knowing that her mom wouldn't notice if they went missing, Jenna took them. Why she even had them here, Jenna had no idea, but her mom preferred a glass of wine at night, depending on her day.

Tequila was the first drink Jenna ever had that she actually enjoyed. She was fourteen when she tried it at Carol's house. Jenna wasn't sure what it was about the drink, but everyone who attended a party in Hawkins always had some in stock. It was almost like they were bringing it just for her.

With the bottles in hand, Jenna got down from the chair and placed the bottles on the counter. She put the chair back in place and closed the pantry door, then headed upstairs with the drinks. Tonight, she wasn't going to worry about anything at all. Hopefully, for her sake, nothing bad would happen at Steve's house. That was the last thing she and everyone else going to this party needed.

It's just a small party, Jenna thought. What could go wrong?

A/N: Wow, this took a while.

I have hit a huge block for writing in general, so that's why this took so long. I'm sooo sorry. I'll try my best to update more.

ANYWAY, what do y'all think is going on with Jenna?

Comment, vote, more soon (maybe, hopefully).
