Chapter 34. Grey destiny

{Location: The top of Kenneth's strong hold}(Morro's POV)

First off, this dragon is HUGE! Second, what was I thinking? I can't fight him again. I lost and nearly died a second time.

Sensei must have mind reading powers I don't know about, he touches my back, "You are all right?"

"I can't face him again. I miss my wind power."

"You may not have your power," He smiles, something of pride in his eyes, "But you have me."

I nod as firstborn lands on the side, letting us climb up the rest of the way. I pull out my staff as I help Sensei up. He catches onto a piece of rebar, pulling me up with him. On top, empty. No sign of a throne, or Kenneth.

I hear his voice as Sensei and I venter forward, "I was wondering how many hunts it would take to bring you here. And just as I was about to destroy every inch of Ninjago." Kenneth pops out, missing my chest with his ax, "I know, less surgical but effective when the prey holds onto hope."

Sensei jump, kicking the back of his head, "Hope keeps us alive."

I spinjutzu into Kenneth, slamming his ax into his face. I push him back as I pull up my mask. "You're done."

Kenneth snickers while loading up another swing, "You think you can outlive me? You can't. I live for the fight. I live for the HUNT!"

I backflip, heel kicking under his jaw. SLam, poke. I stand up as he chuckles. "What's so funny?"

His hands fill with purple power as he grips his ax, "I've given you too much credit son." He swings at Sensei and I race in. Left, right, top, under. Kenneth covers it all. Juggling between me and Sensei with complete ease.

He flips, clocking my face, sending me spiraling back. I slip 'till I'm hanging off the edge. Kenneth springs up, kicking Sensei off the building.

I pull myself up, "Sensei!" I hobble as Kenneth watchs me, grinning while throwing purple energy. It disappears as soon as I run past him. Sensei's ok, he's hanging on, I reach down, "Give me your hand."

"It's too steep." Sensei slowly lowers himself to the next floor, "I'll find another way up. Use my staff." He jumps, quickly looking for another way.

Kenneth's behind me, I bearly block in time, pushing him away and looking for a safe spot. I can't change, my ankle still hurts, I've got no backup or powers. Isn't this just dandy? Kenneth grabs my hurt ankle, pulling me into a wall, "You think that puny staff can hold me?"

"No," I smirk as I see firstborn right behind him, "But it's a pretty good distraction." I duck behind some rubble as firstborn spills out lava. Cocooning Kenneth.

She roars once she's done.

I peek out only to see him throwing the lava off like it's nothing. He punches firstborn, stomps on her nose then pushes her off. He turns to me, destroying my cover, "A dragon? What good is that, son?" He glows purple.

I scamper around, looking for anything until I'm knocked clean off my feet. I can feel a few new cuts on my face and a wicked bruise on my eye. I try getting up only to fall back. Come on. I need to win this fight.

Kenneth steps on my back, holding me down while holding his ax high, "Hello, son." He raises it, ready to chop my head off, "And farewell. How long can you endure?"

"Is this how you way your hunt to end No blaze of glory?" I watch blood drip off my cheek and in a small pool, "I thought the hunt is what fueled you. Is this how you hunt? I thought you'd play with your prey a little more."

He hums, taking his foot off, forcing me up to stand before throwing me away. I manage to get on my knees when he picks up my staff, "If only your siblings could see you now." He breaks it, throwing away the pieces.

I spin back, gripping Sensei's staff.

Kenneth slowly comes closer while spinning his ax, "I told them stories about their big brother from Ninjago. How clever, loyal and brave he was. Gave them an idol to look up to."

We charge in, locking weapons as his free hand holds purple energy.

He grins, the moon casting an evil shadow on his face, "It appears that I gave you too much credit, Hunter."

"My. Name." I push him off, spin low and trip him. Stomping on his chest while aiming for his head, "Is. Morro."

He grabs the staff, slamming my end into my forehead. I back off as he throws that purple energy before he jumps me. I roll out of the way as he stalks me. He smiles, knowing I'm losing steam, "Your name is Hunter Kenneth. You were supposed to lead the thieve's ring." He slashes as I flip away. I land on his ax, slamming my elbow into him before twacking him with the staff, "And you threw that away for an old man and a promise of greatness." He glows purple, throwing me back until I slam against a wall.

"He helped me." I hold my lower rib as I can barely steady myself, "While you were murdering children, I was starving. And he fed me."

"You are a stupid boy." He smiles. Loving how long this is taking, "You take what you want. When you want it, Hunter."

"I've tried that. I wanted to be someone else. ANd I ended up with one of the biggest mistakes of my life." I can't do anything else. My body's worn thin, where's Sensei? I-I need him. I back away as he comes in faster.

"You are weak. This is why I destroyed my offspring. They were weakened by what you're weakened by. Guilt!" He swings.

I duck down, rotating while pulling my foot up. I kick his ax clean out of his hand. I keep turning as I slam the staff against his head, "I call it regret. It reminds of how not to act." I breathe deeply as his hands light up.

I back away as I deflect his shots with the staff.

I'm losing. Mabey I can tell him of another way. It worked with me. Well, I didn't kill kids. No, Harumi brought back the worst parts of him. And that's all he is. Horrible.

Kenneth sighs, making a tsking noise, "In all my prey, they always fight at the end. If it's a good fight, they get memorialized with their head on my wall. DO you like the spotlight because you'll be in the best spot."

A huge dragon of pink and purple explodes out of nowhere. Roaring before fighting the stone Oni.

Kenneth starts manipulating the stone Oni, "WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?!"

It's like a giant avatar. I dive in. He notices, ducking under before trying to fight the light dragon. I manage to kick out his knee before pulling back, "You keep calling me Hunter. That's not my name. You know why? Because I've changed. I am not Hunter Kenneth. I am Morro Wu."

He blasts me, nearly sending me off again before catching my hand, throwing me into a wall. He closes in, choking me with one hand and punching my lower ribs with the other, "Youthful ignorance. People don't change, they just show who they really are." He grips the staff. Forcing it down. He bounces back to the stone Oni, losing that fight as I take short breaths. "FIGHT ME, SON! COMPLETE YOUR MISSION!"

I can't win. So many things run through my head. Where's Wu? Nya would be great to have as back up. Or Skylor. Or Pixal. I wouldn't risk Kit. But heck, if that dragon isn't being controlled by Seliel then-. Seliel.
The jade wolf and the dragon.
I let go of Sensei staff as I stand up as straight as I can. I can't win this fight because it's not mine to win, "No. It's the fight that fuels you. I can't fight you."

He throws purple energy but it disappears long before it touches me. Something new shimmers over his face. Fear.

"But I will resist you." I back away and duck under his punches. His hands start to lose their powerful purple glow as I repeat my new mantra, "I can't fight you. I will resist you."

He chucks a rock at me as his stone Oni is getting nailed by Seliel, "Stop staying that. As my son, I command you-"

"He's not your son." Sensei smiles while watching. His breathing shows that he just got here but already knows my strategy, "He is mine."

"I can't fight you." I flip over his charge as he runs face first into the wall, "But I will resist you." I pull off my mask as Kenneth gasps for air.

He falls to his knees. "My-my power. Where is it?"

I feel it. A hum inside my blood. Something limitless. Something that I've been missing. The wind sharply swirls around me, and for once, my hair doesn't get in my eyes. Air curls around my hands and in between my fingers. My elemental power...it's back. I look at Kenneth, approaching him, "The hunt did power you. You hunted me, you were stealing my power, changing it into yours. That's why you were so powerful."

He doesn't smile, just looks down, "Good boy. You're smart...sometimes." He stares at me, "But I won't come quietly. You still need to finish our fight."

I shake my head as I lean over him, "I wouldn't worry too much about our fight. I'd be worried about your next one," I force his chin to look at Seliel's light dragon, "The one with her." I then blow him clean off the roof, letting him have a softish landing.

Sensei leads me to edge, "How'd you know she's the key?"

"Just a hunch. Besides, I don't have that kind of power." I sit down as Kenneth completely focuses on his new battle.

(Seliel's POV)

This is getting messy and I need to wrap this up. I throw the stone Oni back just as Kenneth lands. He gets up, bearly able to stand. I straighten up, readying a killer punch, "You ready for another fight?" I nail him, his head rolls back. The stone Oni nearly steps on Kenneth. I steady my fists as he tackles my avatar. I knee him, tossing him aside, pinning him up against a building.

Kenneth has a hard time slipping out. I can't kill him. A fight only makes his stronger. But I might have a more clever solution. I lift up the stone Oni, smashing him to the ground and all of his pieces fall apart. I walk towards Kenneth. Steam comes off of him as I pin him in a chock.

Morro did a great job, Kenneth's all bruised up, glaring at me with one eye, "In all my years, I've never seen a Dragonborn. Much less fought one. This is an honor."

"You never should've come back. You being here is a mistake. An uneven weight on the balance of Ninjago."

"So you'll kill me then." Kenneth shakes his head, "Does killing a killer make you a hero? Or a killer?"

"Who said I'm killing you?" My huge dragon disappears as my nails glow. I cut the air, forming a portal to the departed realm, not caring to look inside. I turn him around, placing him in, "I'm putting you back where you belong." I swipe thought the portal. Trapping Kenneth there. My glowing fade as I spot Harumi. Completely frozen between human and wolf. She saw everything. And she looks like some ripped out her heart.

Or crushed her soul.

Firstborn perched above her. I sense dark magic in this one. But the spell caster had no choice.

I silently walk towards Harumi, pulling out my sword. I hold it over her, sucking away her control over her transformation. I put my sword away as she doesn't say a word, "Stay there, princess. Or do you prefer jaded wolf?"

{Location: The ruins of the Jade Palace}[The next day]

All around fireworks explode. The city is more or less repaired. The dragons were a huge help. And almost everything's back to normal. No sign of the ninja but I think we're in the clear for now.

Firstborn stayed the longest, exploring with Ultra Dragon. Now she's resting on top of the palace. Truly, this is a wonderful world.

"We try and keep it that way." I pet her carefully, on behalf of Borge industries, Cyrus gave me new armor. He even got my old helmet face to merge with the new helmet and used Marci's blueprints for my jetpack. Nothing too new or diffrent...other then the dragon face right shoulder guard and dragonbone sword on my hip. "I'm glad you came to help."

Alas, things must change. I should return to the first realm. But I'll be back to visit.

"I can't wait."

Firstborn flies off, shooting thought worlds back to hers.

"Oh man," Morro waves at me from the balcony, poor guy. He's got crutches from his fight, "I was hoping she'd stay until the guys got to see her."

I slide down, walking with him back to the main hallway where everyone's cleaning. Even AJ stopped by to lend a hand, "She didn't belong here. She had to go home."

He faintly chuckles while movings slow, "I can't believe you didn't keep that awesome armor."

"It wasn't mine, it belonged in a museum," I rub the shoulder guard and the sword. I'm gonna have to learn a lot more sword work. Mabey I could ask Kai and Nya's parents to make the blade into kama. "But I kept a souvenir. Besides, I don't think my armor needs to change a lot."

"But we sure have." He slowly climbs downstairs, half relying on his wind power to not fall forward. He grabs me as his crutches fall down. He grips my shoulder as I help him down, "You know, I think you could get those lasered off or something."

"No."

"Why not? The other girl's tattoos faded."

"No, because my ancestors were forgotten once." I pick up his crutches as Kit complaints about cleaning up, "I don't want to forget them. Ever."

"I get it."

Katara wipes her brow after torching broken wood, "You two slacking?"

"Well one of them sure is," Nya smirks as she mops the floor. She eyes as Morro reclines in a chair.

He rolls his eyes as he sends a current through the vases, "I'm doing something. Dusting."

I gravitate to AJ, who's sipping lemonade with Skylor. AJ pours me a glass, "Good news."

"You missed me?" I accept as Skylor makes little ice cubes in my drink.

AJ bumps me, "I'll never admit it. Sam's got the rest of the royal family safe in a remote village up north. Once we're done with the place, they'll come back."

"Good," Kit finishes sweeping as she spots a new floor to take care of, "Mabey we could get some other friends back?" She eyes me.

I swallow my drink, "I think that was a one-time thing."

Skylor nods, "I'd expect nothing less. And it's only been a few weeks."

Katara pulls her hair up into a loose ponytail, "What a crazy few weeks."

"Yeah," Nya takes a break, "So what happened over here? I know we sure had quite the adventure."

Sensei comes running in, "Ninja, hurry. There's an emergency."

Morro grumbles as Katara helps him up, "I'm tired enough from our last adventure."

My helmets slip on as we rush past Wu. To see a party for us. There's even a small band playing. Cyrus rolls up, "I've already thanked you but they didn't get that change. Thank you for saving our home. Again."

AJ smiles as the masks come off.

I elbow her as Skylor invites Clover and Sam up, "You knew didn't you?"

AJ shrugs as she takes off my helmet, "I can keep a secret pretty well." She winks, "Dragon Warrior."
