Chapter five: angel on your shoulder

❀~~~~❀~~~~❀~~~~❀

Ⓦednesday morning Yoongi woke up with an incredibly loud screeching voice ringing painfully in his ears, scaring him so much from his sleep he literally fell out of bed.

"What - what's going on?" he stuttered surprised, covering his ears, but no one was in sight. He tried to look around, still covering his ears; he caught a small glimpse outside his window, and if he was honest, it looked like something was flying outside his house, something big, and white.

But Yoongi laughed it off: that was impossible. There wasn't a creature that was as big as a human with such big white wings. He didn't see it clearly, but he still believed his mind played tricks on him.

As his arms started to ache after holding them up for so long, he eventually let them down carefully, and the screeching sound had stopped; he glanced around, but he could confirm he was alone.

As he got up on his feet, he carefully stepped out of his room, glancing in the neighbour-room that belonged to his elder brother, and the room in the opposite side, his parents' room. He tried to listen if anyone was downstairs, but for once he was alone. It made him wonder what time it was.

Eight am.

His eyes widened. He realised he'd be late for school if he dragged on time, so he sprinted towards his closet where he'd left his uniform, put it uncarefully on, and quickly ran out of the house after locking the door behind him.

Breathless, he slammed the door to his classroom open, startling both the teacher and his classmates in their seats.

"Min Yoongi," a new teacher whom he hadn't seen before said as he read a sheet paper on her desk. "Just in time. I was just about to check you off as absent."

Yoongi peeked at him. "Am I...too late?" he asked.

"None at all. But have a seat, the class is starting now."

He nodded his head obediently and sat down beside his seatmate, Jungkook. He noticed how Jimin was watching him, and what it looked like, a proud smile forming his lips.

"Wow, just in time," Hoseok whispered amused as he turned towards Yoongi. "How did you do it? If I oversleep, I never make it in time," he laughed quietly.

"Don't know, really," he answered honestly. "I think something woke me up."

Hoseok grinned. "Looks like you have an angel on your shoulder," he giggled.

Yoongi glanced at Jimin as he could tell he was watching him, and a pretty smile appeared on his face before he turned around to face their teacher again, though his meaningful smile was still on place.

The first classes before lunch were Science and Biology with the same teacher, Mr Shin. He was actually a fun person; he almost made it seem like learning about Science and disgusting facts about Biology was actually interesting and fun. Yoongi thought it was impossible, but Mr Shin proved him wrong.

Jungkook, his seatmate, seemed to have thought otherwise. He sat grumpily in his seat, not had moved an inch since the class started, and it was only ten minutes until it was lunch.

"Uhm, you okay?" Yoongi asked for once. Jungkook glanced at him, slightly surprised, but didn't really respond to him. "No need to be rude," he rolled his eyes.

"Just like how you've been ever since Monday?" he replied sarcastically.

"So it speaks," Yoongi teased. "I'm utterly surprised."

"Shut up," he growled, "don't be a smartass."

Yoongi chuckled but remained quiet. He didn't have any interest in chatting with Jungkook, but his attitude was amusing to him. It was like watching himself with a mirror, and it was both funny and scary to him.

"Hey, wanna eat with us at lunch?" Jimin asked the two boys who had gone quiet.

Jungkook didn't raise up his gaze, unlike Yoongi. "No," he replied.

"Come on, you don't want to actually be alone, do you?" he smiled at him as they made eye contact.

Yoongi stared at him for a bit. So many thoughts swirled inside of his head. "Are you psychic?" he asked, surprising all three males who listened.

"Psychic?" Jimin chuckled amusedly. "No, unfortunately, I can't read people's minds. I do, however, tend to read people's faces. It's not that difficult, actually. I can tell you're lonely most of the time."

Yoongi was blushing madly. To think this Park Jimin boy, a classmate of his could read him better than his own parents, his family. "I'm not lonely all the time," he denied embarrassed. "I tend to like it alone."

"I'm sure you do," Jimin smiled sweetly. "But eat lunch with us, yeah?"

Yoongi was about to reject again, but somehow, he couldn't form the words right. He just ended up nodding along, and as he thought about it, maybe he didn't actually want to be alone for now.

Min Yoongi ended up sitting at the table with Jung Hoseok and Park Jimin. Surprisingly, Jeon Jungkook was there with them as well as he couldn't find an empty table anywhere, and just gave in when Hoseok and Jimin tried to get him over to theirs.

"Why don't you talk much?" Hoseok asked the quiet boy.

Jungkook didn't answer, as usual, and just ate what he had brought from the cafeteria.

"It's polite to answer an innocent question, don't you think, Jungkook?" Jimin had spoken up.

Yoongi was about to snort at his remark, but what caught him off guard was how Jungkook gazed at him, and then back at Hoseok. "It's my personality. I don't like to talk to strangers."

"Strangers?" Hoseok giggled. "We're your classmates though. You call that strangers?"

Jungkook nodded.

"Maybe he's a traumatic experience he'd like to avoid repeating." All of them rose up their heads to look at Yoongi, who had unexpectedly defended his seatmate, which he was surprised with too. "Uhm, I mean..." He didn't finish his sentence, but his eyes landed onto Jimin, hoping he'd help him out.

"He's right," the said male spoke. "We don't really know Jungkook or what he has been through. If he doesn't want to share, it's not our business. And if he considers us strangers, then we shouldn't invade his privacy."

Yoongi snorted again. "So now you don't invade into other people's business? Didn't seem like it when you continuingly told me to stop - " The raven-haired male stopped himself as he realised he was about to reveal a nasty habit in front of two of his classmates who would undoubtedly judge him for it.

"Stop what?" Hoseok asked curiously.

"Stop, uhm," Yoongi hesitated, not knowing what to come up with to defend himself.

"I tried to stop him from punching someone who offended him," Jimin suddenly covered for him. "He was furious, so I just tried to talk him out of it. Of course, he told me off and told me to mind my own business." He laughed innocently, and the two other clueless males seemed to had bought his lie.

Yoongi sighed relieved. Thanks, Jimin, he thought to himself. But Jimin glanced at him and smiled at him with a short nod.

"Jimin's right," Hoseok added, "you shouldn't punch anyone just because you were offended."

Yoongi nodded. "Yeah."

"Class is about to start again," Jungkook muttered as he stuffed his mouth with food, and following along was the school bell, telling them to hurry back to their classrooms after forty minutes of break time.

"Hey, Jimin," Yoongi whispered as the four males were on their way back, but made sure to only let the blond one hear him. "Thanks about earlier."

"You've already thanked me," he smiled back, giving him a weak tap with his hand on the taller one's shoulder, and then went ahead to sit down onto his seat in front of him. How would he know though? Yoongi thought with a slight frown. He made eye contact with his classmate whilst they were both seated, and all the blond one did was to smile his beautiful eye-smile before looking ahead again. But this time, it was Yoongi's turn to not being able to tear his gaze away from him.
