35 -God's Miracle

Josh and Dani's wedding day arrived like the sunrise, quiet and with unimaginable beauty only God could create.

"Mama, you look like a princess." Jacob stared in awe, looking quite the little gentleman in his suit and tie.

"Our guy has extraordinary taste." Rachel put her arm around his shoulders. "That gown is gorgeous."

"Beautiful," Annie whispered, finishing the stitch in the gown's hem and standing. "There it's fixed."

"Do you think it's too much?" Dani stared at her reflection in the mirror. She wore an off-the-shoulder dress with a fitted waist and a gently flared skirt in the palest pink. The gown barely brushed the floor, but was long enough that she wore ballet slippers instead of heels. Her hair was a mass of loose curled half of it twisted and woven with baby's breath and pinned on top of her head.

"It's just right. Simple yet elegant."

"Thank you. You're the best friends I could ask for." She swallowed, determined not to cry and mess up Rachel's masterpiece makeup. "Is Josh here?"

"He's been here a while and he asked the same about you." Lindy smiled and patted Jacob's back. "Why don't you go tell your dad we're ready."

Jacob nodded and dashed off.

"I'm sorry," Annie said quietly, anticipating Dani's next question. "Jennifer wasn't here the last time I checked."

She hadn't expected Jennifer to come but the hurt she felt was a bit of a shock. Dani was sure she'd resigned herself to the lack of relationship she had with her mom, but apparently, she was still hoping. Still was certainly still praying.

"God's working it out," Annie said, primping Dani's veil.

"I know He is." Dani truly did. The wedding march began to play. When she stepped from the bridal room, she was surprised to see David and Sarah Wyatt, who gave her a warm, teary smile which prompted her own heartfelt response.

The Wyatts invited her and Josh over for dinner last week and talked about John and Jennifer. Despite telling them that her mother still denied John being Dani's father, they welcomed her and let it be known they wanted a relationship with her and Jacob.

"Hello, Dani." David Wyatt's voice was warm and his eyes crinkled at the corners with a smile. "I was hoping you'd allow me the honor of walking you down the aisle."

A warm, cozy feeling spread throughout her chest, and Dani could only manage a nod. Swallowing hard, she cleared her throat. "I'm so glad you're here."

"So are we, sweetheart," Sarah said softly, putting her arms around Dani.

"There's nowhere else we'd rather be," Pastor Wyatt agreed, sounding choked up with emotion.

"Thank you," Dani whispered, blinking away tears.

David Wyatt held out his arm. "You're the daughter of the Most-High God. It doesn't matter to us who fathered you. You and Josh and Jacob are family to us. Sarah and I would be honored if you would let us love you."

A family was what she'd always wanted. Words failed her.

David looked worried. "I didn't mean to upset you."

"No." She spoke softly, slipping her arm through his. It felt right like she was where she belonged. "I just didn't expect this, but it's the best wedding gift I could ever receive."

David and Sarah shared a warm look.

"You two need to get going before I start crying," Sarah said, motioning them to start walking. "I'm going to find my seat."

Lindy, Rachel, and Annie threw smiles as they picked up their flowers and began their walk down the aisle. All three of them looked touched by the Wyatt's actions.

Soon the wedding march began and David gave her hand a fatherly pat before straightening and leading her to the chapel.

"I think they're playing your song," he said, eyes sparkling with warmth. "If he doesn't see you soon, Josh may come looking for you."

"I've kept him waiting long enough." Her belly dipped when they stepped up to the chapel threshold and the congregation stood.

Josh waited at the altar with his attention solely on her. He took her breath away, more dashing than ever in his black tuxedo with a crisp white shirt. Caleb, Tanner, and Parker stood with him, and on the left waited Annie, Rachel, and Lindy. Jacob stood beside Parker holding the ring and smiling happily.

The bouquet of white roses wobbled slightly in her hands as she made her way down the aisle which seemed so much longer than when they'd practiced it at the rehearsal. They'd been through so much to get here, and Dani soaked it all in thankful to God who was allowing them this moment. Finally, she and Josh and Jacob had made it.

"Who gives this woman to be wed?" Ty asked, a warm glint in his eyes when they met Dani's.

"My wife and I do," Pastor Wyatt answered like they'd discussed earlier.

Dani hardly heard the rest of what was said after her hand was placed in Josh's, who gently squeezed it. I love you, he mouthed and she did the same. She was about to follow with I'm sorry, but Josh seemed to realize her thoughts and shook his head. "I love you," he repeated.

Laughter followed--Ty's and the congregations. Dani realized he'd spoken aloud and she smiled.

"Let's get you two married," Ty chuckled and proceeded with the ceremony. "This is truly a union God had blessed."

"...I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss your bride."

It was the sweetest kiss she'd ever had, his lips brushing hers seconds before passion flared and it became wild and achingly tender at the same time.

Laughter and whistles broke their kiss and Josh pulled back just enough to lock his gaze with hers. "This is forever."

"Yes, forever," she answered, surprised at her breathless voice.

Jacob ran to them and Josh chuckled as he scooped their son into his arms. Together the three of them made their way down the aisle, which had taken them so long to travel but Dani knew that God's timing was perfect and his unfailing love was without end.

Epilogue

The baby shower was held at David and Sarah's house. Dani's heart overflowed with a joy only God could create.  Her hand moved to her unborn child, and protectiveness moved over her.

"I can't remember the last time I've seen her this happy," David said, watching his beloved Sarah. "Thank you for letting us be a part of this."

"You're our family." Dani reached over and squeezed his hand. "We should thank you. A triple shower is no small feat. Sarah has outdone herself."

Sitting on the sofa Rachel and Parker, Annie held up a pink onesie and gazed at it with a whimsical smile. Most people had gone home and they were packing up. "Our babies will be the best of friends."

"Just like us," Rachel beamed.

"God help Ty, Caleb, and Josh." Parker chuckled. "Three little girls are about to take over their lives. They have no idea what they're in for."

"Joy!" Jacob exclaimed. "That's what my dad says little Grace is going to bring us."

"Absolutely," Parker didn't miss a beat. "Your dad is right."

Dani wanted to hear what was said next but Josh's hand fell on her shoulder and she turned. From his expression, she wasn't sure what was wrong. Tanner and Caleb stood beside him looking uneasy.

"What is it?" she whispered.

"Hello, Dani."

Dani's heart tripped at the sound of her mother's voice. Jennifer stepped from behind Josh looking different than she remembered. Her hair was pulled back neatly and she wore jeans and a simple pink blouse. She looked both like the glamorous diva Dani remembered.

Tears filled Jennifer's eyes. "I-I know I'm late." The words were chocked full of emotion. "But I pray it's not too late."

Dani stepped forward, her mother's arms opened and they embraced.

"I'm so sorry, Dani." Her mother held on to her. "I've been a horrible mother and I don't deserve your forgiveness." Jennifer sobbed.

Dani's chest warmed. She had no idea what circumstances had brought her mother here but she knew who was responsible. Only God could soften hearts.

"Of course, I forgive you," Dani said pulling back to see her mom's tear-stained face. "Because Jesus forgave me."

Dani caught Josh's smile as he walked Jacob to them. Seeing the little boy Jennifer fell to her knees and gazed at her grandson.

Josh slipped his hand in hers and Dani knew she was witnessing one of God's miracles.
