Chapter 24: Sick
DISCLAIMER: I DON'T OWN JUJUTSU KAISEN, ALL CREDIT GOES TO THE AUTHOR GEGE AKUTAMI-SENSEI. I ONLY OWN THE PLOT OF THIS STORY.
I wanted to get the idea for this chapter done and continue on since I'm pretty close to finishing this one, well with the anime plot that is, because there will be some filler chapters not relating to the series.
Kind of like "slice of life" type of thing in between everything that is happening, sort of thing just to make it a little longer.
And one thing, if you didn't notice while reading you will now that I'll be pointing it out. So, in the previous chapter when Shina begins to tell Gojo about her past life and said that she was Sam Beltner before, I don't know if I put it or if it autocorrected, but instead of Sam, it put Same. And no matter how much I tried I just couldn't fix it. When I would go to edit it, it shows that it's Sam, but when I try to change anything in that part, it won't change.
But I fixed a spelling error I noticed later on in another part, and it fixed just well. It's just Sam that won't fix.
Anyways, sorry for any grammar and spelling errors.
Enjoy.

The dreams of her parents. Parents from both lives, was a wonderful dream, one that she had been yearning for so long.
Maybe talking about them to Gojo had helped her in some way, she didn't know how much she needed to talk to someone about it. In a way she was grateful that Gojo had found her when she had found Sukuna's third finger.
Because she was finally able to let everything out, finally be able to speak to someone about her past, finally be able to get rid of the feelings eating at her.
She was content .... but not everyone was.
"You stupid girl, you idiot! You had the finger, and you gave it away to him."
Shina grimaced at hearing the loud voice of Sukuna berating her in her mind completely shattering the wonderful dream she had been having just seconds prior.
"What did you expect me to do. Fight?" Shina sighed, "Do you really think I would be able to fight against Gojo?" She scoffed, "We both know that I wouldn't have lasted even a second. What choice did I have other than giving him the finger. You should at least be happy that I managed to get two of your fingers."
No response came for a few seconds, but then, "Then you will make sure to keep the other two fingers safe until it's time to give them to me."
Shina rubbed her forehead already feeling a headache coming, "I know." She pursed her lips tightly. She kept the fingers hidden in a box under her bed, but it seems that the seals she wrapped them in have really held out and suppressed them. Though, that still didn't stop the occasional fear of having someone find it, especially the times when Gojo would walk near by the dorms.
She was half-expecting to see Gojo at her door demanding for the other two fingers, 'I should get an Oscar for my acting.' She said to herself as she thought back to the countless times she had lied through her teeth, and the fact that she managed to lie about the finger to Gojo just a few hours ago.
"If keeping these fingers hidden a bit longer will help Yuu-nii, then I'll keep them hidden for as long as I need to." Shina brought her hand down and placed her fingers under her right eye, "No matter what it takes, I'll make sure to see Yuu-nii alive and well in the future." She let her hand drop, 'And I'll do my best to find a way to get you out of his body.' She mentally added.
They bickered back and forth for what seemed like hours, and eventually Sukuna left, leaving her alone once again.
But not before saying, "You and I are the same."
Shina wanted to argue about that, but he continued on.
"We both died, killed, and we both lived a second life. Me as a cursed spirit, and you as a human. Only I will understand you, but I hold no interest in you." And with that he was gone.
After that statement, it was clear to Shina that Sukuna had heard what she had said to Gojo. She knew that he already knew that she had been reincarnated, but it seemed like he didn't know everything.

The light that streamed in through the sides of the curtains seemed like a burning fire to her eyes. She had just barely opened them, only to be met with the sunlight, but that wasn't the only thing.
Her head hurt so bad to the point that she would clench her teeth hard when a pulsing pain shot through her head. She felt as if her head were stuffed with cotton. Cotton with thorns that were scraping at her skull and brain. And the alarm didn't help with the pain either.
"Do I have a fever?" She wondered to herself; she felt a little bit hotter than usual, "Though, it isn't odd to wake up feeling hot from sleeping." She reasoned.
Slowly sitting up, Shina pulled off the blanket and got off the bed. As best she could she tried not to aggravate her headache, she sluggishly got ready for the day.
Once she was done she walked out of her room and made her way out to the training room to once again meet with Yaga, but ....
"No, go back."
.... the moment that she had walked in and Yaga saw her, he told her to go back.
"Why?" She asked.
He crossed his arms over his chest, "You look like you'll fall over with a single bump to the shoulders."
Her hands shot up to her face almost as if trying to feel what he was seeing on her face, in the process feeling how hot her face felt. She hadn't seen herself in the mirror that morning. She merely brushed her hair and tied it up in a ponytail without looking in the mirror.
She would have wanted to argue and ask to stay, but she did feel horrible, and she knew that no matter what she said, Yaga would not budge at all.
So, with a sigh Shina nodded, "Alright." She bowed, turned around and began to walk away, "By the way, do you happen to have any medicine for headaches?"
"Ieri should have some in the infirmary."

"103 degrees Fahrenheit (59 Celcius) fever." Ieri said after she pulled the thermometer out of Shina's mouth, "It's best if you go back to your room. And take these." She walked over to a cabinet and pulled a small bottle of pills and portioned out a few and handed them to Shina in a small glass bottle, "Take these three times a day after every meal. They'll make you a bit drowsy, and since it's still morning, you can take the first pill now."
Shina looked down at the bottle in her hands and nodded with a sigh, "Okay."
'Did getting rid of all the built-up stress of my past make me sick?' Shina thought as she walked back to the dorms.
As she walked down the hall to her room, she was met with Fushiguro who was leaving his own room, in his track clothing at that.
"Morning." Shina greeted as she got closer to him, "Is there no class today?" She asked as she eyed Fushiguro's lack of a uniform.
Fushiguro stopped a few feet away from her and responded, "Gojo-sensei isn't here. He took Kugisaki and Itadori out for some minor mission. I stayed behind." He said then asked his own question, "Don't you have training today?" He carefully looked at her and saw her slightly flushed cheeks, "Are you sick?"
Shina shrugged, "I guess so. Yaga-sensei told me to go back, and I even got some medicine from Ieri-san." Shina showed him the small glass bottle, "I'm kind of glad that I can rest, my head really hurts right now."
"If you need something call me." Fushiguro said as he motioned for his phone.
"Thanks." Shina slightly smiled.

Minutes after she took the medicine, she fell asleep, her dark blue shoes tossed in the corner of the room, her sweater hanging on the back of the chair. And her clothes at the edge of the bed.
She had changed into her pajamas once again, what was the point of staying in her day clothes if she was just going to rest the entire day.
Her eyes slightly opened for a second before closing again when she felt something wet on her face.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
He had been walking out of the dorms and heading out to get some training when he met Ieri on the way who was holding a cigarette in between her fingers.
"Since you're here why don't you check up on Itadori Shina." She stated not even giving him a chance to say hello.
"I met her a few minutes ago and told her to call me if she needed something." He replied.
Ieri pulled out a small case and snuffed out the cigarette in it before putting it in and closing the lid, "You do know that there could be a moment when she won't be able to call and she needs something."
"I can't just walk into someone's room without asking to come in." He hadn't known her for long, but even if he did, he wouldn't be walking into her room just as her brother had to his own room before.
"I wouldn't hurt to try and knock on her door to ask if she needs something." And with that Ieri continued walking.
'Why doesn't she just do it then?' He wondered to himself, though he turned around and headed back to the dorms, 'It would be better to be nearby just in case something happens.' He reasoned as he walked back to the dorms.
It didn't take long to be walking down the familiar hall, and stop in front of Shina's room, he slowly brought up his hand and knocked waiting for a response, and at hearing none, he decided to walk away. Though he stopped when he heard a low soft whine, then silence.
He waited, but nothing more. He didn't want to go into her room, but what if she really needed something and she just couldn't do it herself?
Fushiguro's brows furrowed for a few seconds before he grabbed a hold of the doorknob and turned it, it opened.
"Excuse me." Fushiguro said as he walked into the room and walked over to where Shina laid on her bed.
He walked close enough to be able to see her eyebrows furrow every once in a while. He reached out and lightly touched her forehead, 'She has a really high fever.'
After feeling how hot her forehead felt, he went and looked for a small bowl, filled it with water and a towel. He didn't know if she kept any fever cooling pads in her room, and he wasn't about to go searching around her room for them either.
He pulled the chair over next to Shina's bed and sat down. He set down the bowl of water on the ground after he had wet the towel and wringed it out, leaving a cool light wet dampness to it.
He gently pat her cheeks to freshen her flushed cheeks then he set the folded towel on her forehead.
Once the towel was set on her forehead, her eyes slightly opened for a second before closing once again.
Fushiguro was waiting to see if she had really woken up, but seeing that she had fallen back to sleep, he stayed sitting in the chair until he had to wet the towel once again.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
By the time that she woke up it was already noon, she had been asleep for four hours. She blinked a couple times trying to clear up her vision and trying to ignore the light ache in her head.
She turned her head and felt something slide off. Shina reached up and pulled whatever it was up to her face.
'A towel?' She held it in her hand. She then noticed the chair that had been placed next to her, "Was someone here?" She asked no one in particular, 'I thought I was dreaming when I felt something touch my face.' She touched her cheek and felt how much cooler they felt than before.
She sat up on her bed and not even a few seconds later the door opened up. Shina was half-expecting to see Yuuji, but instead it was Fushiguro.
"Hi." Shina slowly brought up her hand to awkwardly wave, "Were you the one who left this?" She rose the towel higher for him to see.
Fushiguro nodded, "I did. I'm sorry for coming into your room while you were asleep, but you had a really high fever and I decided to use a towel." He apologized for being in her room more than once afterwards.
"It's okay." Shina laughed, "Thank you for taking care of me. I really appreciate it." She smiled.
Fushiguro nodded, "Then since you're awake I'll be leaving." He turned around to leave.
Shina draped a leg over the bed to get up, "Wait. Can you stay for a bit?" She asked, "Can we talk?"
Fushiguro paused before turning back, "Sure." He sat down on the chair.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________-
There was an odd silence between them. One not knowing how to start asking, while the other didn't know why they would be asked to stay.
"Can I ask you a personal question?" Shina slowly asked as she moved a bit on the bed to get comfortable.
There was silence for a few seconds, "Go ahead."
Shina played with her fingers for a bit, "Your mom .... do you remember your mom?" She asked.
At hearing her question Fushiguro thought that maybe she wanted to know if he remembered, because she herself doesn't remember her own mother since her parents had died when she was still too young to remember.
"I do." He answered.
She nodded, "Was she a pre-school teacher?" She asked.
Fushiguro stilled for a few seconds, "How ...." He was about to ask how she knew, but then remembered, "Sendai." He murmured out.
"For pre-school Yuu-nii and I went to the same school, and we had the same teacher .... Fushiguro-sensei." Shina gently said as she interlocked her fingers together on her lap, "I was in her class when she passed away." She said in a hushed tone.
Fushiguro said nothing as he listened, eyes wide as he looked at Shina, then he looked down at the bedsheets in front of him.
"She was a wonderful person. If I had to say who was my favorite teacher, I would pick her." She smiled, "Would you like to hear more about her and how she was at school?" She gently offered hoping that she wasn't being rude or taking pity on him.
".... Yeah."
Shina told him everything about Fushiguro's mother, the type of person she was with all the students. The activities they did, the small mistakes that would happen and she would try to fix them in some random way and make it seem fun. The way she would sometimes talk about her husband and children.
The games they would play in class, the songs they would sing to memorize the alphabet, the songs she would sing during nap time, or the songs from CD's she would use when she didn't sing.
She told him every single detail, and he took it in like a sponge listening to every single word she said.
"I doubt Yuu-nii has made the connection between you two yet." She laughed, "You look a little bit like your mom." She added.
'But you also look like your dad.' She wanted to add but kept quiet.
"Thank you." Fushiguro said, it was two simple words, but the look in his eyes were worth a thousand words.
Shina smiled, "You're welcome." She then winced as her head began to hurt again, "I think it's time I take the next medicine."
Fushiguro got up and reached for her medicine which she left on the desk, "But first you need to eat something."
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Fushiguro stayed with her until she fell asleep and made sure she had everything at hands reach if she needed anything.
He felt that he had stayed for too long, and it wouldn't be right to stay the entire day in her room, especially when he had his own things to do.
So, with a sigh he slowly closed the door with a soft click after he walked out.
"What were you doing in Shi-chan's room?" A voice called out to him from behind.
Fushiguro turned around to see Yuuji, "Nothing really. I was just leaving some water nearby for her to reach for." He said as he shoved his hands in his pants pockets, "She's a bit sick." He added afterwards, "But she's better now."
Yuuji had been about to open the door, but was stopped by Fushiguro, "She just fell asleep a little while ago."
"Why didn't you or Shi-can call me or Gojo-sensei?" He asked really wanting to know the reason.
"The three of you were on a mission so we didn't call, because she was pretty sure you would drop everything to come back or start calling at every random time. And besides Shoko-san already examined her."
That was something neither of them could argue with.
________________________________________________________________________________________________
The next morning Yuuji had bombarded her with questions on how she felt, if she needed more medicine, or more rest.
It took a few minutes for Shina to convince Yuuji that she was better now, though her head still hurt a little bit.
"Are you feel better now?"
Sitting in the lounge with a book, Shina looked up and greeted Gojo, "Well much better than yesterday, but not completely. I still feel a little out of it now." She sighed, "It wasn't so bad to sleep all day though, but just didn't like the fact that I was sick."
Gojo sat himself next to Shina, with some space in-between them, "I heard Megumi took care of you."
Shina nodded, "Yeah."
"Well, isn't that nice of him. Look at him taking care of his new sister." Gojo teased.
Shina shook her head with a laugh, "Just don't let him hear that. But that was really nice of him to do that though." She smiled, "I think I know the reason I got sick."
Gojo leaned back on the sofa, "Hm."
"I think it was form yesterday's talk." She crossed her legs together, "After finally talking about everything, about my past I felt so relieved and maybe the stress I had piled up just drained me after that. Even though I got sick, I'm glad I was able to finally talk about it."
"Good to hear that helped." Gojo said as he crossed one leg over the other, his foot slightly bumping Shina's left knee.
"Gojo-san." Shina licked her lips, "Can you look after Yuu-nii more often when July comes?"
Gojo tilted his head, "Sure, but for what."
Shina pursed her lips, "I had a dream." Was all it took.
Sitting up, Gojo turned all his attention to her, "What happened?" He asked in a whisper.
In a whisper she replies, "Yuu-nii .... he dies."
'There I said it. Since I can't get the next finger, having Gojo there would help a lot.' She sighed to herself, but at the same time wondered if it really was a good idea in telling him all that. Would it really make a difference.

So, what did you think of this chapter? I really liked that little bond the Shina and Fushiguro formed over this. I thought it was pretty adorable, what about you?
I'm not really sure why I added the last part of her saying that Yuuji will die, but I'll play around with that a little bit and make it work.
I think that I'll be updating the next chapter tomorrow or the day after, not sure though.
So, that's it for now. Hope you enjoyed it.
