17| Full Moon Effects

There was a knock on my door before Derek let himself in. I couldn't even allow myself to be annoyed at his disregard  for my privacy, the events of the other night still taking up all my thoughts. The hurt and angry seemed determined not to leave me, and I had little desire to push those feelings away.

"Yes?" I questioned as I looked up from my chemistry book.

"It's been a day and you still haven't told me about what happened at the school." He replied as he sat at the edge of my bed, making it clear that he wasn't going anywhere until I told him. Derek had already given me an entire day to process, and he wasn't willing to wait any longer to get answers. "How did you guys survive?"

"Thats the thing. The alpha had so many chances of killing all of us, but he didn't." I explained the thoughts that have been haunting me since what happened last night. "And thats not the scariest part. He was able to force Scott and I to shift."

My brother stiffened at the news, but he quickly recovered. "But you were able to control it right?"

"Yeah, but it wasn't easy. Anger, it wasn't enough to anchor me. Not anymore." I mumbled not sure what it meant, the thought of losing my anchor was terrifying. Without it we fully gave in to our animalistic nature.

"Then what brought you back? Its always been anger. Its alway been our anchor." Derek stated and for once I could see his concern. In come way I felt relief seeing the cracks in his armor because it showed that I wasn't alone in being afraid. "So what was it?"

"I guess that leads me to the other thing I should tell you." I stated sitting up straighter unsure how he would react to the news. "When I was fighting the shift, the thought of protecting them, thats what brought me back. After I gained control I...I formed pack links with them."

"You did what?" Derek exclaimed as he stood up from the bed. He didn't ask for any specific names because he knew. Of course he did, he had warned me against the very thing. "I knew something was different I knew I healed too fast."

"I don't understand what does that have to do with me?"

"The alpha isn't just after Scott. Its after you too." He continued ignoring my question. The look on his face was filled with worry and confusion. "Alexis you're a pack link. You make packs stronger. That's why I healed faster, because its not just you and me anymore."

"So the alpha wants me to make his pack stronger." I muttered in realization.

"Exactly. There's strength in numbers. You can double that strength."

"You know what I'm worried about?" I exclaimed as I started to become overwhelmed with all this knew information. "The full moon is coming and I lost my anchor how am I supposed to stay in control?"

"Do what you were meant to do protect that pack. That's your anchor. That's what brought you back that night." My brother explained, and I part of me just couldn't believe that it was true. He was going to continue his inspirational speech before my phone began to ring. Stiles' named appeared on the screen and I immediately ignored the call before a few seconds later it was Scott's name that appeared. I turned off my phone to find Derek smirking.

"What?" I practically snapped.

"Nothing just wondering what your friends did for you be so angry." He stated, and I was left wondering if they really were my friends. But they couldn't be after what they did. I suddenly looked up realizing that hadn't told Derek about his new status in Beacon Hills.

"Yeah I guess that brings up the other thing...the thing I should have told you about earlier." I said slowly fearing his reaction. This was all too much information to process. "Scott and Stiles...well they both sort of accused to of killing the janitor, and the bus driver, the guy in the video store and...Laura. So now your one of the most wanted people in the state."

Derek looked at me a couple of second taking in the news before he reached out for my chemistry book and throwing it on my lap. "Study." Was all he said before leaving my room.

I walked into the school and everything was back to normal like the other night never happened, yet I could still hear that it was all everyone was talking about. Oddly enough I didn't hear my brother's name being whispered through the halls of the school. I had prepared myself for the unwanted attention of being the sister of the man who was now a serial killer.

"Alexis." I heard Lydia say from behind me and by her side was Allison who had a sad look in hers eyes. "We need to talk."

"Talk about what exactly?" I replied as we continued to make our way down that hall. The last thing I wanted was their anger or disdain.

"About what happened at the school." Allison replied in a whisper making sure that no one else would hear. "We know that Scott was lying to us all night. I just...I just want to know the truth."

"The truth is that it wasn't my brother who killed the janitor...or anyone else in this town. But of course you wouldn't believe me."

"That's what we want to talk about." Lydia said as the three of us stopped at her locker. "We believe you. Who we don't believe is Scott. That thing...it couldn't have been human it had to be the mountain lion right?"

Remembering that her and Jackson had been attacked earlier at the video store had me realized that it had become a source of trauma for her. "Yeah, it had to be. I mean thats what the cops are saying it is." I lied as I leaned against the lockers. "It was too dark that night we couldn't see anything."

"I just wanted to ask you if you talked to Scott?" Allison asked me clearly uncomfortable with the subject. "I just think that I made the wrong decision."

"Allison the only wrong decision that you made is that dress." Lydia commented causing me to look down at her outfit.

"You know what I mean." Allison replied in irritation.

"The answer is no." I quickly said before Allison and Lydia got into a discussion. "I haven't talked to him since that night."

Allison nodded with slight disappointment as the bell rang singling that it was time for out first class of the day to begin.

"Okay well we should get going we have a chemistry test." Allison explained as the both of us headed towards Harris' class. Once we got into the classroom Allison immediately stopped as she made eye contact with Scott. I looked towards my usual seat beside Stiles only for him to send me an awkward wave.

"Come one Allison." I whispered and we both took a seat on the opposite side of the room as Scott remained standing staring at Allison.

"Mr. McCall, please take a seat." Mr. Harris ordered in irritation as he waited for everyone to be seated before passing out all the exams. "You have 45 minutes to complete the test. Simply by writing your name on the cover of the blue book you'll get ten points." He instructed in a bored tone as everyone immediately wrote down their names. "However, as happens every year, one of you will inexplicably fail to put your name on the cover, and I'II be Ieft yet again questioning my decision to ever become a teacher. So Iet's get the disappointment over with. Begin."

Opening up my test booklet I began to work on the first couple of questions but it became harder to concentrate when Scott's heart rate was increasing my the second. Suddenly the sound of a chair squeaking against the floor was heard causing everyone to look up towards Scott who was standing up.

"Mr. McCall?" Harris called out as Scott ran out of the classroom soon followed by Stiles. "Mr. Stilinski!" I slightly stood up from my seat, but I realized that it wasn't my problem. Not anymore. Harris turned towards me with an extremely angry look on his face. "Is there a problem Ms. Hale?"

"No." I said as I sat back down. "Not at all."

"Good. Now everyone back to work." He ordered and everyone looked back down at their test and continued to work. I sighed as I picked up my pencil and continued with my test, needing to get my mind off of everything that was probably happening.

"So are you going to watch the lacrosse practice?" Lydia asked me as we stopped near the boy's locker room. "Because I'm going to be there, so you totally should. Allison bailed on me."

"Sure." I replied thinking that it would be a good idea to keep an eye on Scott especially after what happened during chemistry. I hated myself for still being worried after what he did. Maybe it was the stupid pack link that was making me feel this way.

"Great. I love this new found friendship we have." She continued with excitement as she linked our arms together. I attempted to force the frown that instantly formed on my face at the gesture. Lydia was being nice and attempting to be my friend.

"Alexis can I talk to you?" Scott asked as he approached us causing the frown to come back.

"Hey Scott." Lydia greeted with a wide smile.

"Hey." Scott quickly muttered before turning back towards me. "Can I talk to you. Alone."

I pursed my lips together unsure of whether I should talk to him, but I just couldn't say no. Doing so would only make Lydia suspicious or at the very least want to question me more. The last thing I wanted to be was questioned about things that I had no answer to.

"Fine." I followed Scott down the hall and into Coach's office as he closed the door behind him and began pacing around the room. "What did you want to talk about Scott? Is this about the full moon?"

"Yes. I mean no. I wanted to...actually this is about Allison." Scott stated and I sighed in annoyance thinking that he actually wanted to talk about something important. "Stiles and I saw you talking to her, and I just wanted to know if she talked to you about me. Does she still like me?"

"I don't know her that well, but she I can tell you that she's hurt. And feels like she doesn't trust you." I replied before turning back towards the door. "Look if this isn't important I should..."

Just as I opened the door Scott reached out and pulled it shut again. I was surprised by the aggression of the gesture, and as I turned around to face him the dark look in his eyes became unsettling. "But you understand that I had to lock them in there right?"

"Yeah you would have killed them if you didn't." I muttered in confusion as he stepped closer.

"So you understand?"

"Yes, I understand." I replied as I pushed him away. As I did he grabbed my wrist and next thing I knew his lips crashed into mine. Instinctively I pushed him away again before punching him in the face. "This didn't go any worse for you because I know its the full moon doing this to you. Kiss me again and I kill you."

Before he got up from the ground I walked out of the Coach's office before bumping into Lydia on the way again.

"Alexis. Did you talk to Scott?" Lydia questioned.

I was surprised that she had waited for me, and worried that she might have overheard. But she seemed as oblivious about everything as she was before. "Um...yeah. I did. Why?"

"No reason I just wanted to talk to him about something." She replied with a small smile on her face. "So where is he?"

"He's still on coach's office." I told her slightly confused. "But it's better if you don't talk to him."

"Don't worry about me Alexis. I can hand myself." Lydia assured me before walking towards Coach's office. "I'll meet you in the lacrosse field."

I stood there and watched her walk into Coach's office wondering what was so important that she needed to talk to Scott. She probably wanted to questioned him further. And although I felt unsettled I walked towards my locker needing time away from everyone to process what Scott had done. The more I thought about it the angrier I became.

"Alex hey, I haven't talked to you all day." I heard Stiles say as I closed my locker to find him walking my way. "Did you...did you talk to Scott."

"What do you want Stiles?" I asked him as he sighed looking down at his feet.

"I just wanted to talk to you I guess." He muttered as he leaned against the lockers. "Its the full moon tonight...but I'm sure you already know that."

"Considering that you're irritating me more than usual...yes."

Stiles' laughed awkwardly. "Yeah, apparently Scott feels the same way. Look I might need your help with him tonight. He's been acting pretty strange."

"I've noticed." I said begging to walk down the hall as Stiles scrambled to pick up his across gear to catch up with me. "Look Stiles I meant what I said the other night."

"I know that your still mad at us. But we kind of had no other choice. Look I talked to my dad and he agreed to not make the whole Derek thing go out in the public."

I stopped in my track and turned to face him doing my best not to show my shock. Listening to his heartbeat I realized that he wasn't lying to me. That what he was saying explained why no one was talking about my brother. Why no one was looking at me any differently. "You did that?"

"Yeah. Yeah I did." He replied with an almost hopeful look in his eyes. I bit my lip not sure if it was the whole pack link thing that was driving me to help them, or that I really did see them as friends. But that wasn't;t enough to get me to forgive them, it really was something that I just couldn't do. "So what do you say?"

"That you and Scott can go fuck yourselves." I whispered before turning around determined to finally make it to that stupid lacrosse field.

"Alex. Alex." Stiles whispered as he ran after me, fast enough that he stepped in front of me blocking my path. It took all my restraint to not push him away and cause a scene. Tonight really wasn't a night where he wanted to test my patience. I had control but I was also more irritable than usual. "I know that we hurt you. And I hate that we did but..."

I raised my eyebrows in disbelief. As much as I wanted to convince myself that his words weren't true and that they hadn't hurt me, I would only be lying to myself. But maybe I could hurt him in return. "Funny of you to assume that I care enough about you for you to hurt me. You and Scott mean nothing to me."

Without another word I stepped around he and continued walking down the hall and onto the lacrosse field. Looking out at the bleachers I tried to find Lydia thinking that she would have gotten here before me, but she was nowhere in sight. Seeing as I had no other choice I got us both seats.

"Hey." Lydia greeted as she took a seat next to me on the bleachers. "Did I miss anything?"

"No they just started." I replied as I turned to face her, she looked slightly flushed and her hair was misplaced. It wasn't normal for Lydia how always strived to look perfect. A loud whistle was heard throughout the field snapping me out of my thoughts as practice started. From where I was sitting I could hear Scott's rising heart beat as he pushed down all the other players before he got to Danny knocking him out instantly.

Everyone immediately ran out into the field to make sure that Danny was okay. I watched as Stiles pulled Scott to the side, and I realized that this was going to be a tough full moon for Scott. He wasn't in a good place with Allison meaning that he couldn't rely on her as his anchor. That was going to be a problem.

"Is he okay?" Lydia asked Jackson once we both made it out into the field.

"Yeah, it Iooks Iike he just has a bloody nose..." Jackson said trailing off once he finally looked to Lydia, his lips instantly twisting into a frown.

"What?" She asked in confusion as she touched her face.

"Your Iipstick." Jackson muttered and I could feel the waves of anger and jealousy coming off of him. A terrible combination, but I couldn't blame him as I suddenly remembered the way that Lydia had previously followed Scott into coach's office. And the kiss that Scott had stolen from me, something told me that Lydia wouldn't have objection to his advances the way that I had.

Taking out her mirror Lydia fixed her lipstick, acting as if it was nothing out of the ordinary. "Oh, huh, wonder how that happened."

"Yeah. I wonder." Jackson replied but he was clearly not satisfied with her answer.
