15| Trapped

Without a second thought I shifted, my instinct being to protect my brother. Nothing else really mattered. As I was about run forward I was suddenly pulled back by Stiles. "Are you out of your freaking mind!" He yelled as he and Scott began to run his grip on my wrist getting tighter.

"He's my brother!" I exclaimed trying to pull back but he only pulled me forward as we ran up the stairs.

"Well you won't be much help of your dead!" He countered as we finally made it into the school shutting the doors behind us. Now that we were inside everything that just happened hit me, and I had to fight to shift back. The three of us pressed our backs against the double doors trying to keep them shut but we all knew it was useless.

"Lock it! Lock it!" Scott yelled as we held down the door.

"Does it look like I have a key!" Stiles nodded as we looked around for anything, looking through one of the windows we saw a pair of bolt cutters laying on the floor.

Stiles looked at Scott and I and we both knew that look. "No." Scott and I said in unison knowing that it was too risky. The alpha was currently nowhere in sight which made him all the more dangerous. It had towered over us and there was no way any of us would be able to stand a chance against it.

"Yes." He replied as he stood up opening the doors.

"Stiles, no, don't." Scott told him with wide eyes but he wasn't listening.

"Come back, come back!" I exclaimed in a whisper as Stiles slipped through the doors. Feeling the compulsion to help him I stood but Scott held me back as he watched his friend run away from the safety of the school. "Stiles!"

As Stiles picked up the bolt cutters the Alpha came out from behind the Jeep and began running towards him. Seeing this Stiles scrambled to his feet and the second that he came towards the doors I pulled him in taking the bolt cutter from him and pulling him through the doors. Once they were shut I pushedStiles back farther inside and placed the bolt cutters between the doors.

"Where is it? Where'd it go?" Scott asked as he looked back out the window to find the Alpha nowhere in sight. "That won't hold, will it?"

"Probably not." Stiles said in a shaky breath as he stood having fallen a couple of feet away from us.

"More like absolutely not." I said doing my best not to panic. Suddenly a loud howl had us running down the hall and into the nearest class room. The second the door closed behind us we pushed the desk in from of the door. "The door's not gonna keep it out."

"It's your boss." Stiles exclaimed slightly out of breath.

"What?" Scott asked completely clueless.

"Deaton, the AIpha? Your boss. Murdering psycho werewolf." Stiles continued to insist.

"That can't be."

"Oh, come on. He disappears, and that thing shows up 10 seconds Iater to toss Derek 20 feet through the air? That's not convenient timing?" Stiles argued to Scott's inability to accept that his boss might be the alpha. And although everything pointed towards Stiles' being right it didn't feel that way. Now that I had been so close to it there was something familiar about the alpha.

"It's not him." Scott said as he continued to shake his head in denial.

"He killed Derek."

"No, Derek's not dead." I quickly replied. "I would know if he was dead."

"BIood spurted out of his mouth, okay?"  Stiles continued and by the look in his eyes I could see he was freaking out. "That doesn't exactly qualify as a minor injury. He's dead, and we're next."

"I really am not in the mood to argue with you right now." I said knowing that this would continue on. The last thing we needed was to fight each other, ironically we were stronger together. "Can we just figure out what we're going to do?"

"We get to my jeep, we get out of here, you seriously think about quitting your job, good?"

Scott walked over to the wall of windows and attempted to open one.

"No, they don't open. The school's climate-controlled." Stiles informed and I couldn't help but be surprised at all the things Stiles' seemed to know. Even if they seemed meaningless at first, that certainly wasn't the case now though.

"Then we break it."

"How about we just tell the Alpha where we are?" I replied in annoyance.

"Then...Then we run really fast. Really fast." Scott stuttered as he realized that we were running out of options. Though we didn't have any options to begin with. With Derek hurt there was no way we were going to make it out of this alive. "Stiles, what's wrong with the hood of your jeep?"

"What do you mean? Nothing's wrong." He replied as we all walked over to the windows to get a closer look.

"No, I mean bent."

"What the hell..." Suddenly something came crashing through the window and the three of us immediately dropped down attempting to avoid the shattered glass. We looked at the other end of the room where the car battery landed. "That's my battery."

Stiles was about to stand up but Scott and I immediately pulled his arms forcing him back down. "Don't move."

"We have to move. He could be right outside!"

"He is right outside." I reminded him.

"Let me take a Iook." Scott muttered as he looked through the window. "Okay now we move. This way." The three of us ran out of the classroom and were about to follow Scott before Stiles stopped him.

"No. Somewhere without windows."

Scott looked around frantically and sighed. "Every single room in this building has windows."

"Or somewhere with Iess windows."

"The Iocker room." Scott suggested and we immediately took off running in that direction. Our options were limited but the locker room was the closest to where we currently found ourselves. I didn't like the idea of locking ourselves up in a room that only had one entrance, but it was better than being in a room that was easily accessible.

"Call your dad." Scott told Stiles as we walked through the empty locker room.

"And tell him what?"

"I don't know, anything. There's a gas Ieak, a fire, whatever. If that thing sees the parking Iot filled with cop cars, it'II take off."

"What if it doesn't? What if it goes completely Terminator and kills every cop in sight, including my dad?"

"They have guns." Scott argued causing me to roll my eyes. He was either naive or incredibly stupid. Even an entire army would barely be enough to take down an alpha that had fully given in to its animalistic nature. I didn't even think it was in its human form often. I truly had never seen an alpha take that shape before and it was terrifying.

"Yeah, and Derek had to be shot with a wolfsbane-Iaced bullet to even slow him down, you remember that?"

"Then we...we have to...we have to find a way out and just run for it." Scott suggested.

"There's nothing near the school for at Ieast a mile." I countered knowing that we wouldn't make it far by running.

"What about your brother's car?"

"That could work." I nodded in agreement.

"Yeah, we go outside, we get the keys off his body, and then we take his car." Stiles planed, though I had to admit that we were being a little too optimistic. This plan relied on us to make it to the car, something that was highly unlikely.

"And him." I quickly added.

"Yeah, of course." He muttered in slight disapproval. Small clattering sound was heard in the hallway and Scott immediately turned towards me to check if I heard it too. I nodded in response as Stiles looked between Scott and I in confusion. "What?"

"There'e someone outside." I told him as we slowly began to walk away from the door.

"Hide." Was all Stiles said before he ran into one of the lockers. Scott and I shared a look before we both got into our own lockers. As I closed mine I heard the door to the locker room open as someone walked inside. But the scent was human and I found myself relaxing at the realization.

"Ah! Son of a bitch!" I heard Scott and someone else yell causing me to open the locker to find Scott and the janitor looking at each there in shock.

"Shh, quiet!" Stiles said to the Janitor as he put his finger to his lips.

"Quiet my ass, what the hell are you trying to do, kill me?" The janitor asked as he held his hand over his chest. "All of you get out."

"Just Iisten for half a second, okay?"

"Not okay. Get the hell out of here right now." He exclaimed as he pushed the three of us out of the door. The second that he closed the door behind him the janitor let out a loud scream before he was thrown against the door splattering it with blood.

"No, no." Scott muttered as he attempted to open the door to help him. He was delusion if he thought he could do anything for that man now.

Stiles and I pulled Scott away as we once again began running down the end of the hall to another set of double doors that led to the parking lot. We attempted to push them forward but there was something blocking them. Scott peered through the crack and sighed in disbelief. It was a dumpster. He had pushed it in front of the door to lock us in.

Scott and I attempted to push the doors using our combined strength. Usually moving a dumpster would be an easy task, but it seemed that it was positioned in away that was impossible to move.

"I'm not dying here. I'm not dying at school." Stiles muttered as we found ourselves walking down a hall where on of the walls was covered in windows.

"We're not going to die." Scott tried to assure him.

"God, what is he doing? What does he want?" Stiles continued to ask and the more frantically that they were both speaking I began to realize that I was actually scared.

"Me. Derek says it's stronger with a pack."

"Yeah, great. A psychotic werewolf who's into teamwork. That's...that's beautiful." As Stiles continued to ramble I looked through one of the windows to find the Alpha on top of the roof on the other side of the school.

"Run!" I yelled as I pushed both of them in front of me before we began running down the hall, suddenly the windows behind us shattered as the Alpha ran after us. Seeing as we had no other option we ran into the locker rooms again.

"AII right, we have to do something." Stiles stated as he attempted to catch his breath.

"Like what?" I asked knowing that without Derek we were no match against the alpha. Even Derek, Scott and I together wouldn't be enough for an alpha that size.

"I don't know. Kill it, hurt it, inflict mental anguish on it...something." He replied when a crashing noise came from inside the locker room, without a second thought we ran back into the hallway and blocked the only entrance to the locker room with a large table.

"What are you doing?" Scott asked as Stiles began to get on the table.

"I just wanna get a Iook at it." He replied before getting on top of it.

"Are you crazy?" I questioned through gritted teeth feeling the panic setting in. The alpha was playing with like the predictor it was. If it had truly wanted to it would have already killed us.

"Look, it's trapped, okay? It's not gonna get out." He assured as he turned on the flashlight to look out the tiny window. "Yeah, that's right, we got you..."

"Will you shut up?" Scott said in a panicked tone are Stiles continued to taunt it.

"I'm not scared of this thing. I'm not scared of you. Right, 'cause you're in there, and we're out here. You're not going any..."

Suddenly there was a crash and something was heard in the ceiling above us. "You just can't keep your mouth shut, can you?" I exclaimed as we began running again. "Okay were just running in circles now." I stated as I realized we were in the same hallway again. A small ring was heard from somewhere inside of the school, telling me that we weren't alone. "Scott do you hear that?"

"Hear what?" He asked in a panicked tone.

"The sound of a phone ringing."

"What?" He asked again as he finally listened in and he looked at me in shock and fear. "I know that ring. It's Allison's phone. Stiles give me your phone." Scott demanded as he pulled the phone out of his best friends hands to call her. "No, it's me, where are you? Where are you right now? Where? Where are you exactly? Get to the lobby. Go now." Without another word needing to be said we once again set off running to the lobby where we met up with Allison. "Why did you come? What are you doing here?"

Allison looked between the three of us curiously before turning back to meet Scott's eyes. "Because you asked me to."

"I asked you to?" Scott asked as Allison showed him the message on her phone.

Her face seemed to go pale as she studied out worried expressions. Something wanted her here, whatever the aplha wanted Allison was clearly part of that plan. Whether it was because she was an Argent to to get to Scott I wasn't sure. "Why do I get the feeling you didn't send this message?"

"Because I didn't. Did you drive here?"

"Jackson did." She replied as Stiles groaned.

"Jackson's here, too?" I asked in annoyance this situation only getting worse. That only meant more people were being put in danger, more people that we all needed to protect when Scott and I couldn't even keep ourselves alive.

"And Lydia, what's going on?" Allison asked as she looked between the three of us. "Who sent this text?"

"Finally." A voice said from the other end of the hall and we turned our head to find Lydia and Jackson walking over to us. "Can we go now?"

A growling sound was heard at the end of the hall and all we could see was a pair of red glowing eyes. "Run!" Scott yelled and that was allow needed to start running up the stair and into the first classroom we saw. "Help me get this in front of the door." Scott said as he and Jackson moved a desk in front of the door.

"Scott, wait, not here." Stiles said as everyone began running throughout the room trying to get anything that would help us block the doors.

"What was that? Scott, what was that?" Allison began to question as he was gathering as many chairs as possible. "What came out of the ceiling?"

"Will you just help me?" Scott asked as everyone began stacking the chairs.

"Guys can we just wait a second? You guys, Iisten to me..." Stiles said trying to gain everyone's attention I looked around the room and saw that we we in the chemistry room but what really caught my attention was the wall of windows. "Can we wait a second? Guys? Stiles talking. Can we hang on one second, please?"

"Hey!" I yelled as everyone stopped what they were doing.

"Okay, nice work. Really beautiful job, everyone." Stiles began to say now that all eyes were on him. "Now, what should we do about the 20-foot wall of windows?" Stiles exclaimed as he motioned over to the wall of windows.

"Can somebody please explain to me what's going on, because I'm freaking out here." Allison pleaded as she ran her hand through her hair. "And I would Iike to know why. Scott?"

"Somebody killed the janitor." Stiles announced since Scott wasn't responding, he seemed to be frozen in a state of shock.

"What?"

"Yeah, the janitor's dead." He repeated.

"What's he talking about?" Jackson asked as he looked over at me. "Is this a joke?"

"No, no, no, no." Lydia stuttered becoming overwhelmed with fear. "This was supposed to be over. The mountain Iion killed..."

Jackson's face twisted in anger as he turned to his girlfriend with irritation and fear burning in his eyes. "No, don't you get it? There wasn't a mountain Iion."

"Who was it? What does he want?  Allison began to ramble wanting answers. "What's happening? Scott!"

Scott looked over at Stiles and I for help but there was no way we could tell them the truth of what was actually going on. "I don't know. I just If we go out there, he's gonna kill us."

"Us? He's gonna kill us?" Lydia practically squeaked. "Who? Who is it?"

"It's Derek. It's Derek Hale." Scott declared and all Stiles and I could do was stare at him in shock.

"Derek killed the janitor?" Allison asked with uncertainty, her eyes straying toward me for a single moment. "Are you sure?"

"I saw him." Scott assured, and to control my anger I gripped the edge of the desk. Stiles put his hand on top of mine and that was when I realized that the claw marks on the desk. I pulled my hands back and forced my claws to go away.

"The mountain Iion..." Lydia muttered with a distant look on her face.

"No, Derek killed them."

"AII of them?" Allison asked.

"Yeah, starting with his own sister. And the bus driver. And the guy in the video store." Scott began to say not meeting my eyes. Knowing that he would find nothing more than burning hatred in them. "It's been Derek the whole time. He's in here with us. And if we don't get out now He's going to kill us, too."

"This is all because of your psychotic brother?" Jackson exclaimed as he got a hold of my wrist pulling me towards him. I didn't even have a chance to say anything as I was pulled back by Stiles before he punched Jackson in the face. All of us stood there in shock as Jackson fell to the floor from the impact.

"Jackson!" Allison exclaimed as she kneeled down next to him. Jackson looked up at Stiles and smirked as he sipped blood from the edge of his lips.

"Call the cops." Jackson ordered as he stood up from the floor.

"No." Stiles replied bluntly.

"What do you mean, 'No'?"

"I mean no. You want to hear it in Spanish? No." Stiles replied his sarcasm not faltering even in our current situation. "Look, Derek killed three people, okay? We don't know what he's armed with."

"Your dad is armed with an entire sheriff's department." Jackson defended not knowing what we were really facing. "Call him."

"I'm calling." Lydia stated as she pulled out her phone.

Stiles stepped towards her but Jackson pushed him away. "No, Lydia, would you just hold on a second?"

"Hey. Yes, we're at Beacon Hills High School. We're trapped, and we need you to but..." Lydia stopped as she removed the phone from her ear to look at the rest of us in horror. "She hung up on me."

"The police hung up on you?" Allison questioned in disbelief.

"She said they got a tip warning them that there are gonna be prank calls about a break-in at the high school." Lydia explained a distant look on her face as she looked down at her phone, tears were beginning to form in her eyes. "She said if I called again that they're gonna trace it and have me arrested."

"Okay, then call again."

"No, they won't trace a cell. Then they'II send a car to your house before they send anyone here." Stiles told them only making them panic even more. They were finally beginning to realize that no one was going to help us, but they only believed that a human was responsible for this. That my brother was responsible for this.

Not a blood thirsty alpha that would rip us apart in a matter of seconds if it wanted.

"What the...what is this? Why does Derek want to kill us? Why is he killing anyone?" Allison continued to ask, and seeing that Scott was the one the started the lie we all looked at him.

"Why's everyone Iooking at me? "

"Is he the one that sent her the text?" Lydia asked.

"No. I mean, I don't know."

"Is he the one that called the police?" Allison asked again.

"I don't know!" Scott snapped at her. "All right, why don't we just back off the throttle here, yeah?"

Stiles grabbed my arm and then Scott's as we moved away from the group. "Okay, first off, throwing Derek under the bus, nicely done." Stiles muttered.

"Alexis I'm sorry. I didn't know what to say. I had to say something. And if he's dead then it doesn't matter, right? Except if he's not. God I'm so sorry." Scott attempted to explain but I was barely hold myself from screaming at him. "Oh, God, I totally just bit Allison's head off."

"You have got to be kidding me Scott." I exclaimed in disbelief.  That fact that he was worrying about what his girlfriend thought about him made me want to kill him more than ever. Until now I had put up with all his teenage angst towards Allison but I had no patience for it. "We have bigger problems right now. Or maybe you should be worrying about the fact that I'm barely holding myself back from clawing your face off right now."

"And thats totally justified." Stiles commented. "You can totally do that after we get out of here alive."

"But we are alive and that's what's important. It could've killed us already. It's Iike it's cornering us or something." Scott explained.

"So what, he wants to eat us all at the same time?"

"No it wants revenge." I told them.

"Against who?" Stiles asked and I only looked behind him to where Allison was standing. "AIIison's family?"

"Don't blame it since her family consist of psychotic murderers." I muttered with my own anger since there wasn't a doubt in my mind that they were responsible for the fire the practically killed my entire family. In fact I would be incredibly grateful if the alpha killed every single member of that family. It was what they deserved. The alpha might look like a monster, but the Argents were possible more heartless.

"Okay, assheads. New plan." Jackson said as he stepped up. "Stiles calls his useless dad and tells him to send someone with a gun and decent aim. Are we good with that?"

"He's right." Scott whispered. "Tell him the truth if you have to, just call him."

"I'm not watching my dad get eaten alive." Stiles argued in disbelief.

"AII right, give me the phone." Jackson ordered as he reached out for Stiles but I quickly grabbed his wrist pulling Stiles away and stepping in front of Jackson.

"How about you man up and help us get out of this situation instead of making it worse." I practically growled not in the mood to be dealing with him at the moment.

Seeing that at this point he didn't have another choice Stiles pulled his phone out and began to call his dad.. "Dad, hey, it's me. And it's your voicemail." Stiles said in defeat. "Look, I need you to call me back now. Like, right now. We're at the school, okay? We're at the school."

At that moment there were loud foot steps outside if the door and we wall instinctively walked away from it. Most of us covered our mouths with our hand to prevent us from making any noises as it walked right past us. Thats when I knew something was wrong it had to have known that we were in here.

It really was looking to torture us with mind games.

"Jackson how many people fit in your car?" Scott quickly asked once he was sure that the alpha was gone.

"Five, if someone squeezes on someone's Iap."

"Five? I barely fit in the back." Allison countered.

"It doesn't matter. There's no getting out without drawing attention." I argued as our options continued to dwindle down.

"What about this?" Scott asked us as he walked over to one of the doors. Regardless of how angry I was I also knew that we had to work together if we were going to get out of this alive. "This Ieads to the roof. We can go down the fire escape to the parking Iot in, Iike, seconds."

"That's a deadbolt." Stiles told him.

"The janitor has a key."

"You mean his body has it." I reminded him.

"I can get it. I can find him by scent, by blood." He whispered so only Stiles and I would hear.

"Well, gee, that sounds Iike an incredibly terrible idea." Stiles replied. "What else you got?"

"I'm getting the key." Scott announced with determination as he walked back to the group.

Allison looked around at everyone in the room in disbelief before focusing on Scott. "Are you serious?"

"Well, it's the best plan. Someone has to get the key if we want to get out of here."

"I'll go with you." I stated, knowing that Scott would never be able to do this alone. As much as I hated him I also couldn't let the other die because of his incompetence.

"You?" Jackson questioned in disbelief. "You're going out there?"

"Well seeing that not very eager to offer your help, yes I'm going out there." I countered earning an annoyed glare from Jackson. "Maybe it's time to admit that you're too much of a coward to step up."

"You can't go out there unarmed." Allison argued, Scott looked around the room and picked up a pointer stick.

"Well, it's better than nothing." Scott replied as he noticed everyones reactions. He really couldn't look like a bigger idiot even if he tried.

Allison shook her head and looked around the room again. "There's gotta be something else."

"There is." Lydia stated as she looked as the shelf of chemicals behind us.

"What are we gonna do? Throw acid on him?" Stiles asked.

"In there is everything you need to make a self-igniting Molotov cocktail." She replied causing all of us to look at her in shock, not expecting her to drop her clueless act. Maybe Jackson was oblivious to how truly smart she was, but anyone with eyes could see that Lydia put on an act. "What? I read it somewhere."

"We don't have a key for that either." Stiles argued but Jackson only stepped up and broke the glass. Now that we had access to all the chemicals Lydia picked out the ones she needed and set them on the counter to begin her work.

"Alex a word please." Stiles said in annoyance as I followed him to the other end of the room.

"What?"

"You do know you can get hurt or die right?" He asked me as if I didn't already know the risks. I knew them better than anybody else in this room. The only reason I was in Beacon Hills was to take down the alpha alongside my brother, me going out there now was to accomplish the thing that brought me here to begin with.

"Yes, and I really don't care." I replied knowing that if Derek was really dead then I had nothing. There was nothing for me to lose. And I really wasn't afraid if that was the case.

And if Derek was alive, that meant he was badly hurt. He needed me and the only way I could help him was to get out of this damn school.

"See, that's the problem. You don't care about getting hurt. But you know how I'll feel? I'll be devastated." Stiles exclaimed, and I didn't really know where all of this was coming from. "Yes, your a werewolf with supernatural abilities, but that doesn't mean you have to go out there and put your life on the line. Not for Scott and I."

"You think I'm doing this for you? Or Scott?" I asked my annoyance from what happened earlier still growing stronger. "I'm doing this for my brother. Because I can't help him if I don't get out of here. He's the only one I care about."

"We both know that's not true, maybe it was at first but not anymore. And things have changed. You, Scott and I we're friends."

"Stop that." I demanded. "Stop trying to see something in me that just isn't there. You think that you know everything but you don't. I didn't come back to Beacon Hills to make friends and I plan to keep it that way. Because after tonight I don't want anything to do with you or Scott."

I walked over to Scott as Lydia was handing him the mixture that she and Jackson were working on. "PIease don't go. PIease don't Ieave us. Please." Allison pleaded before she pulled Scott into a kiss hoping that it would be enough to get him to stay.

But Scott didn't say a word as he pulled away from her opening the door that led out into the hallway. I followed after him closing the door to the chemistry room along the way. The moment the door closed behind us we stood in the quiet and dark hallway unsure of what to expect.

We really didn't have a solid plan. Everything depended on dumb luck. And if there was anything that I had learned throughout my life was the luck was never on my side.
