Christmas Special

Merry Christmas y'all! Since coincidentally the 25th of December is also a Tuesday, I'm still following my usual updating schedule lmaooooo

aNyWaYsSsS, this Special One-shot does not belong in the original story plot whatsoever. Like I said, it's merely a regular One-Shot. So yeah.

Shiro Kurayami×Shoto Todoroki ; modern au : First Snow

-x- -x- -x-

Winter.

A season of pure white snowfalls and shimmering fairy lights. A season of joy and Christmas carols and warm steaming food to enjoy.

Shoto hated it.

To him, winter says a season of cold and bitterness; of harsh storms and dark nights.

He generally despised the season for what had happened during the season.

Winter was the time his own mother poured boiling water on his face because she hated him.

Winter was the time he lost his older brother, Toya and never saw him again.

Winter was basically bad luck to him.

And here he was, walking through the cold wind stricken streets of Musutafu, Japan. His hands shoved in his pockets and head cast down.

He didn't want to stay home and face his father who only ever treated him as an heir more than a son.

So now he walked aimlessly, avoiding all the cheery lights and happy faces of other people. He just walked and walked through the busy streets.

And since his head was cast down, he never noticed a rushing someone in front of him.

The two crashed and fell to the cold pavement in a heap. The person was sprawled on top of him and was groaning.

Shoto grunted and glared at the unknown person, couldn't they watch where they were going?

"Hey, watch where you're running. Are you bli-"

The words instantly disappeared from his tongue, eyes staring at the face that came in front of him.

Long straight hair split in the middle with black on the right and white on the left fell down her shoulders. Short curled inward bangs brushed her forehead.

Mismatched eyes blinked back into focus and stated back at him. One a glimmering amber gold, the other a luminous dark purple.

Shoto gawked openly at her, forgetting what he had wanted to say. He didn't even realise he was still on the ground, whereas she immediately gotten up.

"I'm so sorry! Here, let me help you." An outstretched hand snapped him back, pushing it away and standing on his own.

She furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, before shrugging and tightening the scarf around her neck back.

"Right. Well, sorry for crashing into you. But I really gotta go." Circling around him, she grinned and waved before running off into the crowds again.

Then she was gone.

Shoto continued to look back at the direction where she ran. He didn't get to catch her name.

Frowning, he looked away and left. Though the girl with dual-coloured hair was still in his mind.

A week had passed ever since that day Shoto bumped into that girl and had never spotted her since.

By that time, he had forgotten about her as nothing more than a stranger he would see one time and never again.

Shoto was avoiding his father again by not getting home until much later. But lately, the air became much more colder and looked like it would snow.

He grumbled curses under his breath of the bitter nip of cold, shoving his hands in his pockets deeper.

By that time, his walking brought him to an empty park, the playground was lonely and he swore he saw an odd tumbleweed roll pass.

Shoto shrugged and walked into the park, following the cobble path to where ever it led him to.

The wind whistled in his ear, turning them red just to maintain warmth as he gave in to a shiver.

Suddenly, a speck of white fell on his nose, cold water melting on it as he looked up.

It was snowing. The first snow of winter too.

A soft gasp in front of him took his attention. There was someone else here other than him.

Narrowing his eyes, the first thing he spotted was long black and white hair.

The next was the smile that was on her face, the look of wonder in her eyes as she stared up at the sky.

She looked happy.

That was the first thought that came to his mind. Shoto felt almost envious of the joyous look on her face.

And maybe he had been staring for too long, because by the time he returned to his senses the girl was looking at him with recognition.

"Oh, you're the guy that I crashed into last week!" She smiled, running up and standing before him.

"Right..." Shoto muttered, recalling the feeling of falling onto the icy sidewalk.

"I'm sorry about that, really. I'm Shiro by the way." Sticking her hand out with the smile still present, Shoto stared at it.

"Shoto." He simply said, ignoring her hand which she awkwardly lowered with a chuckle.

"O-okay. Not one for talking. Well, I think your hair's really cool by the way." She smiled again, making him blink. His hair?

"Reminds me of my own, actually. You have two eye colours too." It was true, Shoto did notice the similarities in their features. In having dual coloured hair and eyes.

After a moment, he noticed she has gone silent. He shifted his gaze to her to see her staring at him very closely.

Shoto leaned back a bit, shocked by the sudden proximity. But her eyes were hiding something, a hidden emotion.

Loneliness.

"You look sad, Shoto." She said.

"You look sad too." He whispered, Shiro's eyes widened and took a step back.

She blinked in shock, no one had ever saw through her before. Not even her own parents. But he, someone she just met, instantly did.

"Is it because of how you look?" He asked, watching the look of pain flash across her face then disappearing.

Shiro averted her gaze from him, letting out a forced chuckle. "You saw right through me. I'm impressed."

Taking a strand of her own hair, she stared down at it with a hurt expression.

"I was called a freak for my hair, and my eyes. It's not like I ever wanted this." She said, letting the strands fall through between her fingers.

Shoto kept silent, listening to her words and recalling all the times he had hated himself for because of the exact same reasons she had.

"Always seeing marks and words scraped into my desk calling me ugly and that I should just die." His eyes widened, they had the guts to even tell her to kill herself?

"At one point, I was really considering it too."

"You're not a freak."

"What?" Shiro blinked at him, thinking that she had heard wrong.

"You're not a freak, don't listen to them." He looked away from her lingering gaze. "Who cares about them? They're probably just jealous."

She continued to just gawk at Shoto, making him grow uncomfortable at the lasting stare on him.

"J-just take it as a sign of being special and different from them." He scolded himself for stuttering.

It was just awkwardness for a few seconds, then a bright laugh came from her.

He peered at her from the corner of his eye, seeing a new shine that was in her eyes.

"Wow." Finally seizing her laughter, she smiled up at Shoto. "Guess that means we're both special then."

Shoto had blood rushing to his ears from her words. His heart was hammering so loudly in his chest he was afraid she might be able to hear. Why were his hands sweaty?

She was still looking up at him with that smile of her's, the cold causing her cheeks and nose to redden and her breaths visible.

"Thanks, Shoto." Her voice seemed more gentler than before, his name smooth and rhythmic on her tongue.

And after a long time, a smile appeared on his lips.

The snow continued to fall on them, causing snowflakes to get in their hair and soak their clothes.

He took one hand out of his pockets and gripped one of her own, pulling her gently with him out of the park.

"Come on. It's freezing out here. Let's go get something warm to drink." Shiro glanced from the smile on his face to their joined hands, her smile widening as she followed his pace.

"Thought you'd never ask. And I want hot cocoa."

Shoto laughed, something he hasn't done for a long time.

Winter may not be the worst season after all.
