CHAPTER FIVE

*Please read the author's note at the end of the chapter*

1916

AT THIS POINT IN Camaria's life, she somewhat gave up. She's never given up in her life, but today seemed like her breaking point. You see, Camaria and Newt have drifted apart over the two years.

She began to realize that he crush on him was going nowhere and that he was too invested in Leta or magical creatures to give her some attention. And she knew with all her heart that he didn't mean to leave her out, but she's never felt so alone. Yes she has her father, aunt, Amelia and Theseus, but it wasn't the same.

And today completely broke her. After coming back inside the Scamander house from the feeding the hippogriffs, she found Newt and a dark skinned girl  sat on the couch talking to Amelia.

"Camaria! Come and meet Leta." Amelia gestured for the demigod to come into the living room.

"Oh uh," Camaria looked at Theseus, who was leaned against the wall, for help but only got a small shrug. "hello."

"Hi." Leta smiled lightly and oh Gods she was beautiful. Now Camaria understood why Newt was so infatuated with her.

"I er- I have to go um- take a nap. I'm sorry." Camaria glanced at Newt and Leta's intertwined hands and gulped quietly.

She quickly ran up the staircase without another word and closed her door quietly before sliding down onto it. She brought her knees to her chest as she hid her face with her hair, her breathing quickening. There was a soft knock on the door that brought Camaria out of her thoughts.

"Go away." She groaned.

"It's me." Theseus' voice said on the other side of the door.

After a while Camaria opened the door to reveal the eldest Scamander. He immediately pulled the younger girl into a hug as she gulped again, trying to keep herself together.

"You okay?" He asks, pressing his lips against her forehead as he pulls her close into his chest.

"Just great." Camaria replied sarcastically, trying to sound alright.

The two kept quiet as Theseus kept his arms around her. It was comforting to Camaria that someone would even stay in that postion with her for that long. She ended up calming down after a while and quietly began to hum a random tune.

Camaria pulled away slightly and wiped under her eyes with her sweater, smiling lightly. "Thank you, Sea."

"That's what I'm here for. To comfort girls my baby brother broke." Theseus replied half heartedly.

"Can we go on the roof?" She looked over at him.

"But there's snow on it." Theseus furrowed his eyebrows.

"That's only a small obstacle my dear friend." Camaria playfully winks.

Theseus was like that overprotective and fun older brother that Camaria never had. He's nice enough to try to make her feel better when she's feeling down and that's what she wanted in a friend.

The two were currently bundled up in blankets as they were sat on the roof, watching the stars above them. Camaria occasionally pointed out constellations to Theseus, who would just nod or pretend to be in awe. In all honesty he wanted to sleep, but he knew Camaria needed the company after what happened so he didn't want to be rude.

"You're falling asleep on me." Camaria nudged his ribs with her elbow.

"Pft, no." He shook his head, but ended up yawning in the process.

"Go inside and get some sleep. I'll clean up here." Camaria patted his shoulder as she slowly got up.

"You sure?" Theseus slowly stood up and went over to the window.

"I'm a demigod, I think I'm alright. " She scoffed playful and shooed him away. "Now get some sleep."

"Alright, alright. Goodnight." Theseus grinned and leaned over to kiss her cheek platonically before going through her window.

Camaria grinned softly as she got the rest of the blankets away threw them inside the window. She took another glance at the stars before entering the warm house and closed the window. She picked up the blankets from the floor and began to pick them up.

"You've been hanging out with Theseus a lot." Newt's voice filled the room, causing Camaria to jump back into the wall and glare at him.

"And is that a crime?" She sassed, angrily and messily folding the blankets.

"Do you like him?" Newt questions, staying in his spot.

"What is it to you huh? Why are you even here Newt? You're usually in bed by now." Camaria throws the blanket on her bed and clenches her palms. The fact that he had the nerve to assume that she liked his brother outraged her. Oh only if he knew.

"I was walking Leta out."

"You didn't answer my question."

"But I did answer one of them."

"I don't need a smartass right now, Newt." She sneered and crossed her arms over her chest.

"Fine. I was going to the bathroom and I noticed Theseus leave your room and I wanted to investigate." He shrugs, biting his tongue.

"Why are you really here, Newt? You never are anyway." Camaria mumbled the last part as her brown eyes searched his freckled face for an answer.

"Are you and Theseus a... a, uh, a thing?" Newt takes a step closer to her.

"No, we are strictly platonic." Camaria scoffed, anger fueling through her body at his question.

"Then why are you two always together? Huh? I always, always see you two together. Always." Newt squinted his green eyes at his friend, obviously not convinced by her answer.

Camaria felt her blood boil and threw her arms up in the air out of frustration. "Because you were never there!"

"I am always here-"

Camaria made a noise out of frustration and felt an eruption of anger spill throughout her body. "Bull! You don't write to me, you don't talk to me unless it's about Leta and you don't even read to me anymore." She pointed a finger at him as her voiced cracked towards the end. She felt tears in her brown eyes as another string at her heart was ripped out.

"You're nose is always in a book. You're always in your own world and I don't want to disturb you. And when you aren't here I don't get a single letter until the last week of the month, if I'm lucky. And when we do talk it's always about how amazing Leta is, or Leta this, or Leta that. But you know what Newt? I'm tired of it! I miss spending time with you, but you seem fine without me, with Leta. We haven't had a proper conversation in like a year and you have the nerve to come in my room and assume I like your brother? Well guess what? I don't! Because he's gay! And to think this was going to be the type of conversation we would have when we began to talk again. I'm truly disappointed, Newt. Now just go to Leta, since you're perfectly and utterly fine without me in y-your life." Camaria took a deep breath after her long rant and allowed her eyes to bore into Newt's.

He was eerily quiet. Not a single word was said, but his face showed his reaction. Newt's lips were parted, as if he was trying to find the right words. And his green eyes showed sorrow and regret. Not to mention he was embarrassed. Most of the things she said was true.

He neglected his best friend because of a girl. He allowed a girl to get in the way of his friendship and now he didn't know what to do because the damage was already done. Newt closed his mouth and closed his eyes for a moment.

He turned around on his heels and opened his eyes once again to see the door right in front of him. He could hear Camaria sniffling behind him, but his feet lead him to the door and into the hallway where he sighed loudly. He truly screwed up.

Camaria watched as Newt walked out of her room. She squeezed her brown eyes shut and tried to take deep breathes. She ended up on her bed, curled in a ball as tears streamed down her cheeks as she wiped them away angrily with the sleeves of her sweater.

It wasn't even her sweater. It was Newt's. She slipped the sweater off of body and threw it across the room in a small fit of rage.

Camaria laid down and looked up at the ceiling, a soft sigh coming out of her lips. Her hands rubbed her face as she groaned quietly. She absolutely did not want the next day to come around.

☆☆☆

So apparently you guys like this story?¿

i feel like i need to address something in 'unexpected.' in chapter five, there is a scene where camaria and newt are having a fight. and in that scene camaria reveals her feelings about everything that has happened. and as she does that, she also reveals that theseus is gay. in now way was she outing him. for how i see theseus, he was open about his sexuality to his family. and since newt was too busy with his creatures and leta, he forgot about his older brother's coming out.

so no, camaria didn't out theseus. she just reminded newt.

Another question because these are a fun way to get to know you guys: if you were to be the son/daughter/whatever of a God or Goddess, who would they be?

Mine would deadass either by Hades or Artemis
