Unexpected Changes // Chapter One
Carter
I woke up at 5:00 AM on the dot. This had been happening frequently recently, not that I didn't mind. I didn't sleep much anyway. And, that also means I can look at YouTube before school. I sit up on my bed and toss the blankets off me before standing up and sitting down again before my iMac. It was already turned on so once it loads I go to YouTube and type in "our2ndlife".
Since it was so early on a Tuesday morning, there wasn't going to be a video from Ricky. But since I didn't get to see Connor's from yesterday, I click on that and watch it. I curl up in my fuzzy white chair and continue to look through our2ndlife videos. I don't check the time until it's really too late. It's an hour later, 6:30.
"Shit, shit, shit!" I exclaim. I shut off the iMac and speed across the room to turn on the light. My family was pretty wealthy, so my room was huge. With it's dark blue walls and it's hundreds of posters and photos. My bed was a canopy bed, so that's expensive. I had a canopy as well that I go and stare out of when I can't fall asleep.
I was rich, I think I'm entitled to brag about it.
I turn around and head to my closet before tripping over my thick fuzzy blue carpet.
"I'm so clumsy, you already know," I sing to myself quietly. I giggle before standing back up and carefully walking to my closet. I quickly change into a floral muscle tank and denim shorts with white sandals, and pulling my long wavy hair back into a ponytail. I check the time again, 7:05. Thank gosh my bus was usually late.
"Bye mommy! Bye daddy!" I shout as I run down the steps and pass their floor of the house. I hear muffled byes and I grab a banana and shut the door behind me. My phone buzzes from my backpack and I unlock my phone, pressing my phone to my ear.
"Hola my fluffy amigo!" Screeches the voice on the other end. My friend Rebecca, happy as ever is already giving me a migrane.
"Hi." I yawn back.
"Aw, you sir are a party pooper. Remember what today is right?" She asks, and I know what she is referring to, the day before graduation. I was utterly scared of graduation, like tripping onstage, or the speech I was told to give. But I put on a cheerful sound as I talk on the other end of the line.
"How could I forget! I am so excited!" I squeal. Gosh, I should get a Grammy for best acting. I wish.
"Yeah! I'm at the bus stop, and the bus is coming across the corner, I hear it, hurry up!" She screams at me, migrane number two, and it is only morning. I charge into a sprint as I turn the corner. The bus is a bit ahead of me. It stops and I stop a minute after it. I make it, and I am panting. I realize that Rebecca hung up. And once I take my seat next to her, I put my phone back in my bookbag.
"Me, Taylor, Christie, at Heather are going to the mall this Friday Car, wanna tag along?" Rebecca nudges me in the shoulder as I slouch in my seat and rest my eyes. I nod and she does a little squeal. Soon we park in front of my stupid school. It was big, but stupid. I mean, people were always nice to me, but the teachers were bitches, like "here you go a project, a billion pages and it is due in 7 hours, you may begin." I think as I trip off the bus. Luckily my best guy friend, Brandon catches me.
"Woah girl, I know you're excited but be careful." He laughs. I glare at him and mock him.
"Woah, I didn't know you could be excited about something as pointless as school!" I mock. He lightly shoves me and I lightly punch his arm. We had a great friendship because his mom and my mom are best friends.
"Well, I got to go, geometry." He says, saluting to me as he heads to the right. I turn to the left for algebra. Yay algebra! Nope, I hated this class almost as much as PE. Luckily, PE was my last class, so I wasn't sweaty all day. I pull the door open and take my seat next to a already seated Heather.

AT HOME
I unlock my door and walk to my room. I set my things down on my bed. And unstrap my sandals, I slide in to my panda slippers and walk downstairs to the kitchen, I see my mom and dad sitting there, waiting I guess, I can't believe they were even here, dad was usually at work at the doctors, and I guess mom just got back from a buisness trip.
"Honey, sit down." Says my father, pulling out a chair for me, I take a seat and scoot under the table.
"Now listen, graduation is tommorow, and you got three college letters today. One from Yale, one from Harvard, and one from Texas Univesrity. Open the Yale one." My mother says as she hands me the Yale one. I realize it was already opened, so I slip it out of the envelope and open it up. "Rejected." I mumble as I slide it away from me.
"Now the Harvard one." My father says and I hold the envelope (already opened) and slip it out. Another rejection. I sigh and hand it back.
"Now for Texas." Says mom and she slips me the unopened blue envelope. I tear it open and with trembling fingers pull it out. I unfold the letter and read it. I re read it to make sure it wasn't a hoaks. In the top, it says,
"Congradulations Carter Rae Tony."
"I made it in a college!" I scream.
"We know." My smiling mother says. Then my smile fades, from Florida, to Texas? Where would I stay, hell no to a dorm.
"We are sending you to live with somebody, and you don't know him, but I know his father." My dad says with a serious look. I nod.
"You leave next week." Mother finishes. I nod slowly and stand up. I walk to my room and slam the door.
"I hate my life." I moan into my pillow.
