**Y/n Pov**

"At this rate, we're never going to have dinner," Nanami teased as I stopped at like my 5th fruit stand.

"It's not my fault! It all looks so delicious!" I laughed before paying for a peach and joining him once again.

I took a bite, letting out an exaggerated mmm, "Nanami it's so good!"

"I'm sure it is."

"You have to try it!" I held out the piece of fruit near his face.

"No."

"Come on, please!"

He sighed as he glanced at me, but then quickly took the peach from my hand, giving it a bite before passing it back.

"See, isn't it amazing?!"

He licked the juice off his lips before smiling down at me, "Mm it is, but it also tastes like all the other peaches you've eaten."

I sighed happily, "Yea, well, I just don't think I'll ever get used to how great it is here."

And it was true. I was falling more in love with this little island everyday. The warm, sunny days. The sound of the waves rolling in against the rocks. The brightly painted buildings.

I felt at peace.

The moments I spent thinking about Suguru were less and less, and when I was thinking about him, I wasn't in an overwhelming amount a pain. Just a small, subtle amount.

Maybe I would always love him, but maybe I didn't need to always be in love with him. Maybe I could move on too.

I glanced up at Nanami as we walked, feeling so grateful for his kindness and compassion. He really cared about me. It wasn't just that he wanted to see me smile, he wanted to make sure I felt safe.

And with him, I did.

Sometimes, I really wished things could've been different. After these last couple months with Nanami, I knew I could be so happy with him, and I think I could make him really happy too.

Maybe with some more time we would find out, but for now, at least I got to have him in my life as a friend.

I followed him as he started to put some asparagus into our little mesh produce bag.

"Ooh, good choice," I smiled.

He nodded, "You order it almost every time we go out to dinner."

"You noticed?" I laughed.

"Of course I did," he acknowledged before continuing on through the stands of vegetables.

I loved all the outdoor markets and vendors here. It felt so casual and homey. I had never lived anywhere that matched my energy better than this island does.

"I don't know that anyone's ever paid attention to me like you do," I was already looking for our next side dish, so I absent-mindedly muttered it half to myself and half to him.

"Y/n," he caught me off guard by the way he called my name, holding lightly onto my arm.

"Hmm?" I tilted my head as I looked up at him. The gentle way his eyes peered back at me as they glistened in the evening glow made me smile even brighter.

I felt my heart flutter, but there was no way I would ever act on that. Not unless I was 100% sure.

He sighed as he looked away, "Do you want to go find some olives, cheese, and crackers? We can make a little appetizer if you want."

"Mm, you are just full of good ideas. I'll be back."

**Geto POV**

We've been on this island for a few days and have had absolutely no luck in finding Y/n. It was small, like really fucking small, but the odds of randomly crossing paths apparently weren't in my favor.

I was no where near giving up though.

"Do you have to stop at every stand?" I smirked as I watched Satoru buy yet another cup of sliced fruit. If him and Y/n gave it a chance, they'd actually be really great friends.

He laughed his giddy laugh, "Actually yes! Yes I do! The fruit is so sweet it literally tastes like a dessert!"

"Mm, anyway, what do you want to do tonight?" he asked with a mouth full of food.

I shrugged, "I don't know."

"I know you're all gloomy we haven't found her, but we have a better chance if we actually do things. I'm sure she's not just sitting at home."

I smirked, "I mean, she could be. She doesn't like going out much."

"Eh? Really?"

"Yea, she's kind of lowkey. She told me an ideal date night would just be cooking and spending time together."

"Mm, boring," he grumbled. Satoru definitely preferred going out to quality time, which is fine. A lot of people do until they meet someone they'd rather stay in with.

"I like it," I smiled as I thought it over. A subtle night with her was just what I needed.

I was walking with my head in the clouds a little bit when Satoru stopped suddenly. I glanced over at him, confused by what he was doing.

He closed his eyes as he let out a soft sigh, "Suguru."

"What? You good?"

He didn't say anything, he only looked defeated as he nodded ahead of us. I quickly turned around, scanning for whatever he was referring to.

"What the—"

Satoru cut me off, grabbing onto my shoulder, "Just take a minute. Don't freak out yet."

I ignored him completely, the rage boiling inside me taking over.

Is he with her? Did they fucking come here together? Did she tell him where she was going but didn't tell me?

My head was spinning as I walked over, ready to beat the shit out of him.

"What the fuck are you doing here Nanami?" I snarled as I approached him.

He didn't even bother to look over at me, "Control yourself. Y/n doesn't like unnecessary violence."

I quickly grabbed hold of his shirt, forcing him to face me as I brought him closer, "Where is she? And what the fuck are you doing here?!"

The way he remained calm and composed like always was about to make me lose it.

"Alright, alright," Satoru rushed over, breaking me off him before looking over at Nanami. "Nanami, what's going on?"

"I'm getting us ingredients for tonight. Y/n wanted to cook a nice dinner, so that's what we're doing."

"Cooking?" I asked, my heart breaking a little bit.

"God dammit," Satoru mumbled after hearing the sadness in his voice. I literally just told him about Y/n's perfect date, and that's what she was having. With Nanami.

Nanami kept his eyes locked to mine, "You shouldn't have come. She's better off without you."

"She wants him here," Satoru answered. "You know how much she loves him."

"Then what the fuck took you so long," Nanami's voice lowered, obviously starting to give into his own anger.

I couldn't answer him, let alone even think straight. My mind was still stuck on how they were here all on their own, how she's been spending all her time with him, how she asked him to cook together.

Maybe I shouldn't have come...

"Eh, we had some trouble," Satoru laughed, trying to lighten the tension. Nanami and him were almost as close as we were, I'm sure this wasn't easy for him.

Nanami scoffed, "Couldn't even figure out how to fucking find her. Figures. Do you ever pay attention?"

"Nanami—" Satoru started, but Nanami cut him off, taking step towards me.

"No, you don't. Because if you did, you would've noticed from the beginning she was going to sacrifice everything to keep the peace."

"Come on, that's not fair," Satoru interjected. "No one could've known what she had planned."

"I did," his jaw tightened as he continued to glare at me.

I finally looked up at him, feeling sick to my stomach that he knew her so much better than me. That he cared for her so much better than I did, probably more than I ever even could.

"Nanami!" the sweetest voice called out, causing me to look past the 2 in front of me.

Y/n was walking towards us, her head down as she searched in her bags for something.

She was radiating. Her hair drifting freely around her, her skin glowing in the warm light of the evening sun, her summer dress swaying as she walked.

She meant everything to me. Maybe I didn't deserve her, but as I stood here, finally with her again, I knew had to have her. And I would do absolutely anything to be worthy of her love.

"Look! I got peonies for the table! They're your favorite right!?" she called out.

She beamed brightly until she looked up and caught sight of us, her eyes widening as her smile completely faded.

"Suguru," my name rolled off her lips, but her eyes flickered to Nanami.

And now I knew exactly what Baba meant when she said my eyes spoke of conflict instead of love, because that's what Y/n's reflected now— conflicted over me or Nanami.

Nanami closed his eyes, sighing softly before looking at me again. His voice came out at barely a whisper.

"Please don't hurt her again."

He handed me the bag of groceries before walking off. Y/n's eyes flickered between us, a look of confusion and desperation on her face.

"Nanami! Nanami wait!" she yelled out as she ran by me and Satoru.

She was chasing after him...

How the hell did Nanami even know what she was up to? Could I ever really compete with that?

They stood and talked for just a few moments, too far out of reach for us to hear much of what they were saying.

I watched as Nanami leaned down and kissed her forehead before walking off again.

Y/n eyes were swimming with tears as she looked back at me and Satoru, her skin already a bit blotchy and puffy.

She wiped away some of the tears as she looked at me, "A little late, aren't you?"
